I asked this once and no one answered me....I don't think there are many old-timers left on DL. That said, I think she's REALLY hot and would love to hear some of the old tales retold.

I've been here for 10 years so I'll try to remember the outline.

She was in GIA and, as R3 said, was HOT in those scenes with Angelina. Then she was on ER. Around that time there was a poster who is a loser LA-dyke singer. I'm not going to say her name. She mostly used her initials anyway - DE.

Someone (probably DE herself) posted that DE and Mitchell were an item. It took off from there, spiraling into a world of crazy, chalupa frenzy.

I am going to go there: Danielle Egnew. What it was, OP, was there existed a diehard group of freaky fans who came out of nowhere to worship at the altar of Elizabeth Mitchell as soon as she got that role on ER. They became obsessed with her and CONVINCED she was gay. She is not. So we made brutal fun of them, in the same way some DLers still make fun of the "womyn" who attend Michfest.

no/ the chalupa thing came from the diehard Elizabeth Mitchell fans' message board called "Drop the Chalupa".

The chalupas were a bunch of crazed fangrrls who obsessed over the Kerry Weaver/Kim (?) storyline on the TV show "ER". A fan started a website called "Drop the Chalupa" (a play on the Taco Bell ad campaign); this website was devoted to the relationship between these 2 characters. Somehow, the DL found out about this website; hilarity ensued. The posters/members of DtC were called "chalupas".

It used to be commonplace to see threads with titles like "Are (insert name of fangroup) the new Chalupas?"

They were the gold standard for fan insanity until the Ponies came along and outdid them.

Mitchell was on ER in the 2000-2001 season. LotR didn't drop until December, 2001, and I don't remember the ardent fervor starting until the second film came out a year later.

She supposedly was involved with Angelina Jolie during the making of Gia- on-screen and off. Angelina likes to seduce her co-stars.

Heard she had a long-term relationship with an LA-based female musician. They were semi-outed and the growing "negative" press started hurting her career. Shortly after this happened she quickly got married and had one child. Still married to the same guy.

For what it's worth- She and Evangeline Lily are very good friends. They became close while living and filming Lost in Hawaii. Elizabeth always speaks glowingly of "Evie" in interviews. They'd make a very cute couple. Not that they are mind you!

The Mitchell-Cooper comparison is not apt, because, as mentioned, Cooper is actually gay.

It's more analogous to the "Jake IS Toothy Tile"/Brokebackies.

Marcia Cross IS gay and married a man shortly after gay rumor really took off here and elsewhere online.

Elizabeth Mitchell is NOT gay and married a man because she loves him.

Lastly, I would put good money on a bet that r21 was a member of the Drop the Chalupa board.

I heard she was in a relationship with a woman when those rumors started circulated? And dated her real gf due to the rumors involving Egnew, who wasn't her real gf? Or something? So that was totally wrong and Elizabeth Mitchell is straight?

R21, I heard the same thing. R22, how can you be so certain that she is straight? Have you spent every minute of her life with her?

I'm not some crazy Elizabeth Mitchell fan, I'm just curious. It's lame that you posters call anyone who suggests that Elizabeth Mitchell might actually be gay a chalupa.

Oh, I remember those crazy times. DE even jumped into the fray herself, making cryptic type comments about how this kind of thing can harm a non-outed person's career, blah, blah, instead of just saying "I don't know this person and have no idea how this got started." Then a bunch of DE fantards would fly in defending her.

After a decade of Monday morning quarterbacking, my conclusion is that Elizabeth Mitchell is more than likely a straight woman who may have dabbled in bisexuality. I would not be shocked if Angelina seduced her when they were making Gia. That said, I think the DE nonsense was just that, nonsense that could have been put to a stop if that DE person had simply denied any connection to Mitchell.

Some of those threads back then were absolutely hilarious, though.

The best parts were watching DE or her long term gf Sheena Metal have a meltdown on DL claiming she was being stalked by a poster here named Amy. But then she would turn around and antagonize her on the threads, all the while befriending Amy in real life. Very strange woman, that DE. 10 years later and she's still trying to "make it."

Look, I'm late to the whole EM/Datalounge issue, but I really hate posters who INSIST so & so isn't gay. Please accept the fact it's a gay gossip board and stop acting like we're doing said actor/actress an major disservice by calling him/her gay. Elizabeth Mitchell excepted, generally if an actor/actress is not gay, these 'rumors' don't take off. Where there's smoke there's usually fire. I have no idea if EM is gay or straight or bi, but if I want to have 9 million people telling me she's straight, I'll go to IMDB.

Explaining why the Chalupas were mocked here involves explaining that Mitchell is not gay.

Obviously she's gay-friendly and sure, as you say, she's "hot" but this is not a case of claiming someone who's been speculated about is not gay just to be an ass. It's to answer the OP's question.
