Asbury Park
Is it worth a long weekend over the summer for a group of gay guys so like beach/bar/dance activities?
- As long as the weather is nice, you can always hang out at the beach all day. \
\
Other than that, there ain''t a whole lot going on in AP. Despite all the hoopla surrounding its "renaissance" it''s still a pretty run down place. \
\
I''d rather do a long weekend in Ptown or Rehoboth than AP.
- The Empress Hotel is fun. It has a great pool and a fun (if somewhat campy) club. And the town does have good restaurants and a few cute shops. Its definitely a nice place to go for the weekend.
- Thanks
- Great mid-century modern antique shops on Cookman Ave. as well as some wonderful restaurants.
- bump
- Is there any other bar besides that Paradise in the hotel? The other dive a few blocks away closed up.
- Beach
- surf
- The Empress Hotel is nasty. They allow smoking all over and you are constantly assaulted by tobacco addicts.
- Bump from two years later. It seems like asbury park is crawling with built young gay men and tattooed lesbians that look like personal trainers. The boardwalk is really nice.
- Asbury Park is very gay positive. A lot of young straight families mixed with gay guys with perfect bodies. A lot of new shops have opened up there.
- Ralph Kramden bought a uranium mine in Asbury Park
- Why are DLers obsessed late
Y?
- I love Asbury Park!
Lots of gays and lesbians of all ages and types, straight young hipster musicians and artists, young cute waiters everywhere who are in a local band and hoping to be the next Bruce Springsteen, quirky shops, art galleries and cafes and an independent bookstore and indy movie theater all on Cookman Ave. and an old-fashioned Jersey shore boardwalk wrapped around a clean and healthy beach. You can bike everywhere if you are so inclined.
55 miles from NYC so it takes a little over an hour to drive and NJ Transit trains from Penn Sta. almost every hour (but they take 1 & 3/4 hours). The beach and Cookman Ave. are in close walking distance of the train station.
The Stone Pony
- its like Beirut with an occasional cocktail
- How did it survive Sandy?
- it barely survived
