Celebrity Republicans and conservatives--some big surprises (to me at least)

A lot of these in this CBS slide show I had long known were Republicans or conservatives, like Sylvester Stallone, James Woods, Bo Derek, Mary Lou Retton, Jon Voight, and Ben Stein. But some of these really surprised me. James Earl Jones? Heather Locklear? Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson? Drew "Dungeonmaster" Carey? Sarah Michelle Gellar? Susan Lucci? LL Cool J? Jessica Simpson?

Well, Darth Vader is dead to me!!!!

Independent thinkers are a diverse group.

by Anonymousreply 2May 2, 2010 3:45 AM

People with money want to keep all their money, and fuck the poor into the grave.

by Anonymousreply 3May 2, 2010 3:47 AM

What ever happened to Kim Alexis? She was and is stunning.

by Anonymousreply 4May 2, 2010 3:52 AM

Drew Carey self-identifies as libertarian, IIRC. And I'm convinced that my family is the only one registered Democrat in all of Manhasset, so it's no surprise that LL Cool J's a Republican as well. Seriously, you should see the reaction when I go vote in the primaries here, it's almost like they don't know what to do.

by Anonymousreply 5May 2, 2010 3:55 AM

Mark Wahlberg

Billy Corgan

Jon Voight

Angie is on her way to being one, she isn't even adopting a Haitian Refugee child, and she's hanging out and talking to her father ALL THE TIME now. Her brother already is one, and a fundy to boot.

Lots of others incognito.

by Anonymousreply 6May 2, 2010 4:13 AM

The complexity of Jessica Simpson's brain is comparable to lichen. It shouldn't be a surprise that she's a Republican.

by Anonymousreply 7May 2, 2010 4:15 AM

Billy Corgan?

by Anonymousreply 8May 2, 2010 4:16 AM

The weird thing, and I've been wanting to write this for a while is that while Penn Jillette in 2006 had that episode of bullshit about how much he hated anti-gay people, and hated Mormons, is NOW SAYING that he hates liberals and is good friends and a frequent guest of Mormon Glenn Beck.

Can anyone fill me in on this? This is a pretty quick transformation towards the right, don't you think?

by Anonymousreply 9May 2, 2010 4:17 AM

R9, Penn Gillette is king of the bullshit. It's no great loss. Maybe someone will be pissed off enough at his stupid tv work that they'll shoot him.

by Anonymousreply 10May 2, 2010 4:20 AM

While there certainly are all sorts of celebrity Republicans - fundies, social conservatives, people who truly would have us all killed, it's not always that deep.

For many, the Repugs will help them hang on to more money, and there's not much more to it.

Of course, for some of these celebs, there is MUCH more to it.

by Anonymousreply 11May 2, 2010 4:22 AM

Yes, Billy Corgan. He has found God now (if you read his twitter account) and was talking about how he hates high taxes (I don't think he's an Obama supporter), and another interesting off-topic thing is that he said that the last time he was involved with Courtney Love was in 1994, you know, the year that Kurt died?

Well, I just realized today why he has become a born again Christian. He feels responsible. In Italy, Courtney went out and fucked Billy, then went back to Kurt that night. This was the infamous OD episode in Italy that happened.

Less than a month later Kurt Cobain was dead. Billy wrote about how devastated he was by the death of KC and how it caused him a huge depression, a deep hole.

But it all makes sense now, with his born-again conversion. He really hates Courtney Love and in another thread I posted how he called her a terrible mother who abandoned her child (it's on google news)and irresponsible.

Anyways, sorry, way too O/T but yes, Billy is now a Righty.

by Anonymousreply 12May 2, 2010 4:23 AM

Yup, OP. It seems like all four corners of the Algonquin Roundtable are inhabited by Repubs.

by Anonymousreply 13May 2, 2010 4:24 AM

Thanks r12. I used to like the pumpkins, but I generally hate them now. Despite not being a fan, a leftover part of me just hopes that Billy is happy.

by Anonymousreply 14May 2, 2010 4:29 AM

Wow. all those c&w and NASCAR people? who knew?

by Anonymousreply 15May 2, 2010 4:39 AM

Billy Corgan also fucked Jessica "sexual napalm" Simpson. He has wonderful taste in women.

by Anonymousreply 16May 2, 2010 5:15 AM

R16, did either of them admit to it?

by Anonymousreply 17May 2, 2010 5:22 AM

I thought Billy & Jessica were an item but both denied it, Jessica's been hanging out with Ken Paves for months and Billy's new gf is some rock girl in the Veronicas that he's been with a while.

by Anonymousreply 18May 2, 2010 5:29 AM

[R6} you're deducing that Angelina Jolie is turning fundie 'cause she was recently reported as talking with her father?

And how do you know her brother is a fundie? Link please.

Seriously, too many of you here would hurt themselves jumping to conclusions.

by Anonymousreply 19May 2, 2010 5:39 AM

>>Seriously, too many of you here would hurt themselves jumping to conclusions.

Is this what passes for humor among Republicans?

by Anonymousreply 20May 2, 2010 5:46 AM

I love how everytime someone has a dissenting opinion or asks for clarification they're immediately labeled repugs or fundies. I suppose free-thinking it not allowed in the far left, either.

by Anonymousreply 21May 2, 2010 5:53 AM

Fiscal Republicans I guess.

by Anonymousreply 22May 2, 2010 5:59 AM

Marjoe Gortner is once again a fundie and radical far right.

by Anonymousreply 23May 2, 2010 6:01 AM

"Mark Wahlberg"

Has this been confirmed?

by Anonymousreply 24May 2, 2010 6:10 AM

r19 there was a report online just after Obama's election how Angie and Brad were arguing politics... and that Brad was an Obama supporter while Angie wasn't and it would be huge fights between them.

Also, around election time Angie was not exactly in full support of Obama, in fact she said she was looking at both candidates and thought McCaian and Palin had valid merits to bring to the table

by Anonymousreply 25May 2, 2010 6:12 AM

R21, socialists are collectivists by nature, like the Borg. If you do not subscribe to every element of the ideology, you are not of the body, and must be expelled, or preferably, exterminated.

by Anonymousreply 26May 2, 2010 6:13 AM

Wait a minute. Marjoe Gartner is still alive? I haven't heard that name since the 70s.

Penn Jillette considers himself a Libertarian. He was never really a liberal.

If Billy converted because of guilt over Kurt Cobain's death, he sure took his sweet time. I thought he worked with Courtney on her latest CD but wasn't happy with the way she did his songs.

by Anonymousreply 27May 2, 2010 6:14 AM

Damn, r26, you've exposed our secrets, now we must kill you.

Sheesh.

by Anonymousreply 28May 2, 2010 6:22 AM

by Anonymousreply 32May 2, 2010 6:38 AM

"and that Brad was an Obama supporter while Angie wasn't and it would be huge fights between them." Ummm, (& god help me, I'm about to defend Jolie) that doesn't make her conservative. Plenty of people on the left find Obama's moderate/center stance unappealing.

by Anonymousreply 33May 2, 2010 6:40 AM

Yeah, that's why she's a Randian. No, all leftists want to play Dagny Taggart.

by Anonymousreply 34May 2, 2010 6:47 AM

You had me going there, R32/28.

What a relief.

by Anonymousreply 35May 2, 2010 7:12 AM

R9, Penn Jillette has always called himself a libertarian but that's really just a code word for conservative freak. And when I say freak, I mean Penn is a fucking freak. I've met the man, I know him and he is a nasty piece of work. Teller, on the other hand, is pretty cool but will talk your ear off if you let him (seriously).

by Anonymousreply 36May 2, 2010 7:24 AM

R36, what is he like? He seems evil.

by Anonymousreply 37May 2, 2010 7:30 AM

Sexual Napalm? what John Mayer really meant was Jessica -piss play- Simpson

>>>LL Cool J

I don't think he is a repug. He wouldn't let sarah palin use footage of him for her sham of a show

by Anonymousreply 38May 2, 2010 7:34 AM

So lets us just assume all Country Music people are Republican then.

by Anonymousreply 42May 2, 2010 6:33 PM

Interesting to me is how many has-beens are Republicans. Minor but recognizable names like John Ratzenberger and Victoria Jackson, who were better known in the 1980s. Dean Cain was better known in the 1990s.

It seems like they're trying to be relevant. Like, "Hey, folks, I'm alive. I'm still here." That would better describe the far-out Jackson. With the other two, they're low-key ... but have been "seen".

by Anonymousreply 43May 2, 2010 6:37 PM

by Anonymousreply 45May 2, 2010 6:50 PM

by Anonymousreply 46May 3, 2010 2:52 AM

I knew all these people were Republicans.

[quote]Ummm, (& god help me, I'm about to defend Jolie) that doesn't make her conservative. Plenty of people on the left find Obama's moderate/center stance unappealing.[/italic]

Her father said that Angie agrees with his stances on Obama and Democrats. Angie has not denied this.

by Anonymousreply 47May 3, 2010 2:58 AM

The Rock? He's dead to me, now. DEAD!

by Anonymousreply 48May 3, 2010 3:01 AM

I've really had to reconsider my stance on politics since I discovered Victoria Jackson was a repub. I mean, she's like the female Lenny Bruce. Well, maybe not Lenny Bruce. She's the female Dennis Miller. I'm assuming Dennis Miller is the male Dennis Miller. Anyway, both of these brilliant comics each once made me laugh. I can't remember what about--I was stoned at the time. I think with her, it was one time on Julie Brown's show. With him, I think it made me laugh when i heard he was jobless.

Anyway, if a brilliant intellectual like Victoria Jackson is into tea-bagging, it's time to consider becoming a tea-bagger.

by Anonymousreply 49May 3, 2010 3:50 AM

I didn't know Andy Garcia was such a a dick.

"After watching Mr. Romney on 60 Minutes I was reminded there is nothing to discuss. Mr.Romney is the right man for the job and we are very lucky to have him applying for it, it's actually a luxury. Mr. Obama doesn't even come close as he is nothing but an old used and boring joke. Actually Mr. Obama is very lucky he is not sent to jail for treason." "Actually, is very easy to understand the fact why Mr. Obama doesn't understand the USA or the West has enemies, a sad but true fact -proven through the last two Millennium - who want us subjugated or dead (not so much because he is dysfunctional, ignorant or stupid...) it's because HE is the enemy."

"Obama's record isn't just "not good." It's atrocious, and his foreign policy misadventures are the epitome of incompetence. Even so, we must confront the reality that most voters won't take the time to familiarize themselves with the facts. Therefore, it's our job to tell them, and hopefully we can persuade some of them or even most of them to look at Obama's record objectively. If they do, they will conclude that what Donald Trump and many others have said about him is true: "President Obama is the worst president in this country's history."

Cuban trash.

by Anonymousreply 55October 27, 2014 11:48 PM

1 celebrity definitely moving away from Obama

Intriguing blind item from Blind Gossip 'This acting celebrity is known to be a strong supporter of the Democratic Party and has consistently put their money where their mouth is over the years. When Barack Obama was running in 2008, they were among his most vocal supporters. You may have noticed that they have quieted down significantly. Their financial contributions have slowed to a trickle, too. That’s because while they are still a Democrat, they are privately telling close family and friends that "Obama fucking betrayed me" (No, we don’t know what that’s all about); that they "can’t wait until he leaves office and takes his entire fucking pack of liars with him"; and that "Obama is the worst fucking President EVER."

The most common guess is a recently wed charmer

by Anonymousreply 56October 30, 2014 7:26 PM

I love being a gay conservative/Republican. It just pisses off my fellow fags so much. I find that the vast majority of gay men who identify as liberal spend much of their life complaining, whining, blaming everyone else for their own personal problems and think the world owes them something just because they exist. If hard work, keeping my money and choosing to give to charities of my choice instead of through taxation, and the fact my identity is not defined through my sexual preference pisses you off...good. You are too ignorant to understand. Now, I'm off to make even more money! Enjoy your afternoon at the bath house and don't forget your appointment tomorrow at the infectious disease clinic ;)

Before everyone gets their nose out of joint, Hollywood republicans tend to be pretty moderate RINOs. For example, back in 2000 The Rock went to both the R and D conventions and said that he had both conservative and liberal opinions. A Hollywood republican is not the same as a Michelle-Bachman-republican.

He is as greedy as fuck. Nothing has changed with the party except their toxicity can be seen from Pluto now.

He also sees himself as a future politician like Arnold & Reagan.

Puhleeze, r2. These "independent thinkers" are concerned with only one thing: their own money. Not even that of their mentioned fellows; nope, just themselves.

Oh, is there anything else worth citing that these "ITs" support?

"Limited government"? Translation: Lower taxes on the rich.

"Rational stewardship of our minerals, flora, and fauna," perhaps? Translation: Elimination of environmental protections for corporate entities in whose profits we are invested.

"Right to Work," maybe? Translation: Elimination of unions that bargain for employees and fight for higher wages and better benefits, cutting into the above-mentioned profits.

"Freedom of religion"? Translation: The denial of Civil Rights and consumer rights to customers not of the same belief system as the denier. The money to the ITs comes then in the form of campaign donations or at the Box Office.

"Second Amendment rights"? Translation: NRA financial support in politics and "the Arts." Ever wonder why so many movies with "Conservatives" have so much fun violence, or why some Rap artists pose with guns?

Etc.

by Anonymousreply 72June 8, 2020 10:09 AM

"Fun," maybe, but I meant to write "gun."
