John is "all man". Would you sissy boys please leave him alone.
Just give me a second. I''ll set my time machine for 1987 and try to find someone that cares.
What r3 said. He is old and fat and gross. No one out there is lusting after John Travolta. Good lord. And no one cares who he schtupps because no one wants to think about it.
He is not hot anymore for anyone to care
I do, I do I do I do I do I do.
Well, the tabloids have outed him several times -- including that photo of him kissing another man. And since middle America loves the tabs, I imagine a lot of people have at least seen these stories. \
Whether they actually believe them may be another thing, though....
Uh, I think most of "middle America" started wondering if he was gay back in 1978 or so.
He seemed a little too excited to do drag for Hair...
What type of arrangement do he and his wife have?
His fans (mostly middle-aged women, I presume) consider him straight, happily married and a wonderful father.
I''m still not sure what happened with him. I thought he was straight when we were involved.
The ghost of Diana Hyland. Anyone up for another "Eight is Enough" thread?
[quote]He seemed a little too excited to do drag for Hair...\
That was Hairspray and not Hair. He was terrible in the part. It was a toss-up between him and Michelle Pfeifffffer as to who stunk up the screen more.
I remember tabloid rumors from the late seventies/early eighties that he bragged that he could steal any man from any woman. Then as today, the heterosexual public sees what they WANT to see.
So is Jamie Lee, R14.
I really enjoyed "Perfect", and was surprised when it was so savaged by the critics. It''s a fun movie, and the leads are great.
I know a few people, inc. my 62-year-old mother, who think he''s gay, because of all the garbage that''s come out about Scientology. All the Tom Cruise shit with the Scienos and couch-jumping shone a bright light on Travolta, and many people who never saw it before realize that''s why he''s still closeted.\
It''s kind of taken as fact that he''s gay but doesn''t want to be...\
When my partner and I were home over Christmas, we were talkign about favorite movies. My Dad said "Pulp Fiction" and my mom said, "John Travolta''s gay," and my dad said, "I know..." and just kept on talking, no judgment, no shock, just matter-of-fact. Everyone burst out laughing.
Does anybody really care?
Say what you will but when he was younger he was really one of the all time most beautiful men.
I say this as a gay person, with gaydar: why is it that every LGBT website assumes John Travolta is gay? It''s just referred to as a matter of fact, but has there ever been any actual evidence? He doesn''t ping for me. And yes, Clay and Ricky and all of those guys did (and do). Travolta, I''ve never seen it. And the same for Tom Cruise (he seems douchey to me, not gay. I don''t actually know why any gay person would want to claim him for the team). \
Is there some evidence I''ve never heard about, or is it just that people think he seems/looks/sounds gay?
Well, he''s not gay. Bisexual is more like it.
Just ask Allan Carr.
R21, as long as people still call it ''evidence'' -- as if a crime has been committed -- then people are going to deny it.\
To me, John''s gayness was confirmed when that pic of him kissing the guy by the plane ran.\
He''s beautiful in that pic, R20.\
And if you put all the religious stuff aside, he seems like he''d be a fun guy; I remember him being very charming with Rosie OD one time and right when he had her in a good mood he joked something about her ''Tommy'' not being able to make her feel this way and she laughed even more.
[quote]Is there some evidence I''ve never heard about, or is it just that people think he seems/looks/sounds gay?\
How about the photograph of him kissing a guy on a plane runway?
On her tv show the past weekend, John and Kelly made a special appearance at Kirsie Alley''s b-day party. (which, surprisingly, included no one from "Cheers", or "Veronica''s Closet") John appeared in a very somber state yet seemed pleased to be there. Kelly tried her hardest to be the center of attention, and she seemed like she was trying to show everyone how good a friend she was to Kirstie.\
The most interesting part, however, was when Kirstie opened up her gift from them. She hugged and kissed John like crazy, then went back to her gift. Kelly had to reach across John to give Kirstie a hug.
His weight-lifting trainer outed him, r21. The guy was a gay porn star, so just to start with, it''s fishy that Travolta would have a gay porn star as his trainer. And then the guy outs him, said they had been lovers. It might be he said/he said, but you asked for proof and it''s not like there hasn''t been any.
It isn''t so much whether anyone cares about him now. (We know that no one cares about these guys when they''re older and fatter) -- what''s important (and rather insane) are the lengths that people like this and the people around them go to in concealing their sexuality.
I think he''s bisexual and as already stated no one cares because no one wants to sleep with him.
r27, Miss Frausow, it wasn''t his trainer. Read and learn, cow.
What difference does it make r30? What a stupid nasty reply just because I hadn''t perfectly memorized some old gossip.
"Well, he''s not gay. Bisexual is more like it."\
Please, he cheats on his wife with men only
So? He still has a wife that he presumably fucks, and you don''t how many others of the female persuasion he may be diddling as well. Gayness doesn''t follow the "one drop" rule.
R31, I thought he was his trainer, too; I remember reading the Enquirer back then and there were some pics at the gym.
R11 is right. Where I work, all the women (and men), young and old, think he is straight. Only the ones that go to the internet gossip sites thing he might be gay. They are going to believe what they want to believe.
I know his wife''s family from the North Shore. Met him on a number of occasions. He is an incredibly nice man. He did a kindness for a total stranger. He did it quietly and without fanfare hoping no one would discover the source.
That''s sweet. HE''S sweet.\
He''s also gay.
Why didn''t his singing career pan out after 1979?
The only "evidence" is a picture of him kissing a friend?\
r14 at 3:10 it looks like he is getting fucked from behind by the REALLY cute guy behind him...\
Now THAT is pelvic thrusting. \
And there is no way Jamie Lee can be intersesexed unless the rumored vestigial penis and balls are shoved way up inside or have been removed.
I don't know what made Travolta change after the 1970s. He was straight as an arrow back then. Has everyone forgotten his romance with Diana Hyland? I think her death affected him deeply. Maybe it was too painful to be with another woman after the love of his life. I'm 100% sure that he was 100% straight in the 70s. He may have turned gay later due to the pain of his loss.
R42 - That's funny. I never bought that Diana Hyland romance. To me it always reeked of a studio publicists set-up to make their star seem like someone he wasn't. Even in 1977, that seemed like a sham to me.
Yeah, I can virtually guarantee that his pee-pee never saw the inside of Hyland's vajayjay. No way, Jose!
I have honestly never believed the gay rumours about Travolta. I never heard anything about him being gay until the media turned against Scientology. I think skewering him over the coals about being gay is the media's punishment upon him for being part of that cult. I think Scientology is a joke and a sham, but I think Travolta, Cruise and Kirstie Alley are lambasted unfairly in the press because of their religious beliefs. That's my opinion. If they were Protestant or Catholic, you would never hear a bad word about them.
I think most people think he is and really don't care. He passed hunky hot status years ago and the fangurls are over him.
R46 Very true. I think if he came out now, it would not cause even a ripple in the press. He's old, even ancient, by Hollywood standards and no longer romantic leading man or action star material. Even after the years of elaborate bearding, etc., I don't think the public would care one way or the other. The man is 60 years old. Who cares at that point? He'll still have a career as a character actor or lead in light comedies.
R45 - Sorry Jill dear but Travolta is 100% gay. Someone close to me worked for him back in the 70s when he was uber popular and needed to sign confidentiality agreements in order to get the job. He spent a lot of time in gay bathhouses and had at least 2 boyfriends he brought to his house. Why are people so reluctant to admit the obvious or that someone is gay? It is not a disease.
I hate to think that someone has to live a lie because of their job. There have been some successful actors who have come out. Neil Patrick Harris, who is "only" a TV actor, but still quite successful. Zachary Quinto, an up and coming actor whose career has not been hurt in the least. Ian McKellan, who has actually been even more successful since coming out. I love JT as an actor and I think he would remain just as successful if he came out. He does have a large fan base who will love him no matter what.
I'm a straight male and I wouldn't mind if John Travolta came out as gay. I love him as an actor and would still watch his movies. He has starred in some of my favorite films ever (Urban Cowboy, Blow Out, Pulp Fiction, Get Shorty, Face/Off, etc.). I don't give a shit who the actors I watch in movie stick their piece into in real life (as long as it's with other consenting adults). Big deal. We're all human beings. It sucks that people has to lie about who they are. I hope it changes someday soon.
R43, I never bought the Diana Hyland romance as a romance. But I think they were close friends - Warhol ran into Travolta on a plane when Travolta was flying back from Hyland's funeral, and he said Travolta cried the entire flight.
I don't know if Ohio counts as "middle America" but, uh, yeah, everyone knows. We have the same tabloids, same internet, same cables shows as you advanced coastal people. But thanks for caring about our unenlightened souls.
R52 You tell 'em, buddy. People on the "coasts" tend to think we get our news third-hand by Pony Express once a year and that we are clueless about anything going on in the world. Yeah, I've heard that JT liked the weenie since the 70s. We may not be in NY or LA, but we're not idiots. Jeez, Louise!
I started wondering about his sexuality when he made that awful movie, Moment by Moment. No biggie if he is gay. I still like him as an actor, regardless of how he "presents" himself or his hole.
I always liked Travolta as an actor. It's a shame when good actors get mixed up with that Scientology shit. It destroys them as people and forces them to live soul-killing lies. Scientology is a joke, which milks its members financially dry and then throws them away. I wish John would break away from that cult and get his life on a proper track to happiness. He deserves better...
Olivia are you a lesbo?
I LOVE Travolta. My favorite actor ever. I hope he leaves Scientology and finally comes out of the closet. I am a straight woman who had a huge crush on him back in the day. I'm convinced that he is gay, but I still love him dearly. He is a beloved actor and I really don't think "coming out" would impact his career negatively. Gay or not, I will always have a thing for him. I have a beautiful photo of him on my computer table. I still think he's the dreamiest.
R56 LOL. I've been friends with Olivia Newton-John for many, many years. She is FAR from being a lesbian. She LOVES gay people and is very supportive, but she is straight. Trust me on that. She thinks the Lesbian rumours are "cute". She loves it. Olivia is a lovely person.
What did the late "Arnold Horseshack" actor have to say about it, after his own coming out?
R59 Ron Palillo supposedly had no love for John. I always thought it was jealousy, but I've also heard that Ron thought John was a hypocrite because he lied about who he was sexually. Then again, I was told that Ron had no love for any of his Kotter castmates and was quite bitter. I never met Mr. Palillo, but I knew one of his former "friends" quite well.
I've met John Travolta quite a few times over the years. We're both pilots and our paths cross on occasion. I've always liked him as an actor and I really like him as a person. He is very down-to-earth and kind. I don't give a shit about his rumored sexuality or his religious involvements. I base my opinion of him on the way he treats others and he's always been very kind to me. Never condescending or self-absorbed at all. And no, I have no idea if he's gay or not.
You're so right, R52 and R53.
It's sad that the coasts have to be propped up with such relentless snobbery. When I was too young to hear the desperation I presumed there was something there.
I work in Austin, Texas. With educated professionals and most of the women do not think he is gay. It is amazing how they think. They believe it is just gay men who want him to be gay and are trying to get his money. I don't think some of you realize that the mainstream doesn't want to believe they are gay and so they won't. Some still don't believe Jody came out because she did not state she was gay. I worked with a very intelligent attorney who said that people could release video/pictures of Tom Cruise having sex with another man but she would not believe he was gay unless he stated that he was gay. I don't think you realize how delusional these people are, even in Austin. Even the men. Do not tell them Wolverine is gay. They will have a fit. And Tom Cruise does his own stunts and is an action star! Not him! It is amazing how much the public has invested in these people's sexual personas.
Celebrities fake their marriages as an extension of show business. That way, they can be adored or on entertainment news 24/7. Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban are a good example of constantly selling and working show biz whores. Ellen feeds on this crap, with the daily gushing over celebrities and their babies. Travolta has always seemed gay to me, even before he was forced out by tabloids. The Kelly Preston marriage is so over the top fake that it is embarrassing. But I do think a certain segment of America does not want to see gay people, so they are suckers for hetero showmances.
I have to think Scientology is lining up new and younger actors. Cruise is declining in box office, and Travolta is a joke.
I knew Travolta was one of them there homosexshuls back when he did that there disco dancin' movie back in the olden days. You remember? The one were them three fellers in the tight white pants sang like chipmunks and Travolta danced like a Kansas City Ladyboy in that perty white suit? I don't care what them Hollywood folks do behind closed doors but they need to hush up about it and pray them urges away.
Typical Flyover Stater
I always thought "Staying Alive" was a much better movie than "Saturday Night Fever". I guess i'm the only one.
r65 is correct.
Years ago, in a television interview, Ron Palillo was comparing his career to JT. Ron stated that while JT was using his Welcome Back Kotter cash for acting lessons,he was using his cash to purchase a house. Ron sounded very, very bitter, and jealous, at least to me.
2 questions: What is the definition of "Middle America"? Did John Travolta ever finish high school?
I met John and asked him to do me and he declined. So he can't be a gay.
R63, care to explain further your statement: "When I was too young to hear the desperation I presumed there was something there."
Besides, I found puh-lenty of arrogant, unsophisticated and/or desperate people everywhere I go. Maybe you met the wrong folks.
Now that his gayness is back in the news, more and more people realize he's not str8.
