Ooooh, pop some popcorn and let the fun begin!

You're in trouble, girl.

by Anonymousreply 1May 28, 2015 2:36 PM

Anita is NOT giving Cheryl the best that she's got.

by Anonymousreply 2May 28, 2015 2:38 PM

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for posting this! I ran across this on LSA and was about to post a thread until I saw this one.

Cheryl Lynn went IN, baaayBE! It's about time someone knocked Anita "Bitch on Wheels" Baker down a peg or two.

Bitch haven't been relevant since the 80s, but acts like she's Aretha or Barbra.

by Anonymousreply 3May 28, 2015 2:38 PM

This was the lead story on several sites this morning.

I don't know who Cheryl Lyn is, and I'm black.

by Anonymousreply 4May 28, 2015 2:38 PM

And 16 apparentlyR4

by Anonymousreply 5May 28, 2015 2:42 PM

If you are black and don't know who Cheryl Lynn is you need to turn in your NAACP card.

by Anonymousreply 6May 28, 2015 2:42 PM

And 16 apparently R4

by Anonymousreply 7May 28, 2015 2:44 PM

If you don't know the song Got To Be Real, one of the defining disco classics of that era, then you must be a youngster who knows very little about classic R&B!

If This World Were Mine, a duet/remake with the late, great Luther Vandross is another classic. Cheryl's catalogue can certainly stand up proudly next to Nita's!

by Anonymousreply 8May 28, 2015 2:44 PM

And "Encore"

by Anonymousreply 9May 28, 2015 2:45 PM

I'm black, I don't have an NAACP card and I don't know who Cheryl Lynn is. What are some of her hits?

by Anonymousreply 10May 28, 2015 2:46 PM

It deserves an Encore

by Anonymousreply 11May 28, 2015 2:48 PM

R10 You've heard this song and just didn't know who sang it.

by Anonymousreply 12May 28, 2015 2:49 PM

R6 Well dayum! That bad huh? I Just checked her out on Wikipedia, and I never saw or heard or her before.

I do know who Anita Baker is, even though she was before my time. I'll make an effort to brush up on my R&B history.

by Anonymousreply 13May 28, 2015 2:50 PM

Hmm... let's see... Cheryl Lynn is 58 years old... Anita Baker is 57 years old...

Many of us old queens in or around that same age...

2 has-beens hustling for work arguing on Twitter? ...and this is of interest?

Sheesh! Where are the adults...

by Anonymousreply 14May 28, 2015 2:57 PM

I've heard "Encore" plenty of times, but I had never seen the video until today. I think it may need its own thread.

by Anonymousreply 15May 28, 2015 2:59 PM

R10 Thank for making me feel like I'm not the only one. My cultural awareness is on point in most areas, but I'll be damned if I had a clue about Ms Cheryl.

by Anonymousreply 16May 28, 2015 3:00 PM

The pics in the link are hilarious!

by Anonymousreply 17May 28, 2015 3:01 PM

Check My Catalogue!

A legendary phase, bound for DL glory.

"Move over "my pussy stinks"

Check my catalogue, Bitch"

by Anonymousreply 18May 28, 2015 3:07 PM

How old are the black posters in this thread? I'm black and 30, so maybe that's why I know who Cheryl Lynn is, but jeez, it's a little embarrassing to admit you never heard of Cheryl Lynn when Got To Be Real, and Encore are classics. Got To Be Real has been sampled so much in Hip Hop, I'm sure Cheryl, along with David Foster, is getting some nice royalty checks from just that one tune.

Shit, the popular YouTube show Got 2b Real borrowed its title from that song, as well as used Patti and Mariah's duet of the tune for the theme song. Is it the case that you guys heard of her songs but never thought about who sang them?

Another great disco tune is Shake It Up Tonight!

Really not making fun of you, but you've never heard "Got to Be Real," or you didn't know who sung it?

Maybe I am old. LOL

by Anonymousreply 20May 28, 2015 3:09 PM

Star Love, hennies!

I'm sorry that I'm black and don't know who Cheryl Lynn is. Yes, I remembered the song after someone posted it, but never knew who the singer was. I'm sorry, but not all of us know the same references or the same groups. And if you have a problem with that, check my damned catalogue, bitch.

by Anonymousreply 22May 28, 2015 3:19 PM

haha yaaas!

Cheryl Lynn, you read that heffa Anita for FILTH!

Cheryl does have a louder voice than Anita so she's right that she could sing her off stage.

by Anonymousreply 23May 28, 2015 3:33 PM

Some of the comments are hysterical.

"Y'all know Anita has a flip phone and can't see the tweets"

by Anonymousreply 24May 28, 2015 3:38 PM

The only thing I've ever heard from the ugly Cheryl Lynn is Got to Be Real.

It was used in Sex and The City.

The Encore video is hilariously bad. So cheesy.

by Anonymousreply 25May 28, 2015 3:43 PM

Does Cheryl Lynn have a drinking problem?

by Anonymousreply 26May 28, 2015 3:45 PM

Got to be real was written by a white guy and song by some black obese blimp from the Gong Show.

It only got to #11 and wasn't even a real big hit.

Only a fossil who used to scout Studio 54 and managed somehow to survive AIDS, probably by being to ugly to get laid, would remember it.

by Anonymousreply 27May 28, 2015 3:48 PM

According to Wiki, my love was one of the writers of the Got to Be Real.

My love! My love! Why have you forsaken me?

As I lie here, writhing in the pain of lyme disease. Just counting the minutes going by. Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick.

by Anonymousreply 28May 28, 2015 3:57 PM

She was done by this time, and her weight didn't help either...

Rare video of Cheryl's New Dress. Produced by Bernadette Cooper of Klymaxx. The song lyrics were "It's time for a new dress". Cheryl had just left her old record label (Columbia) and this was the first single from her new label. It was time for a New Dress.

R27, check Cheryl's Billboard stats, you ageist piece of shit. It went to number one on the R&B charts, so yes, it was crossover hit. And she co-wrote Got To Be Real.

Only misinformed babyqueer cunts like yourself would talk shit about one of the last of the disco divas, as well as AIDS victims.

Burn in hell, bitch.

by Anonymousreply 30May 28, 2015 4:31 PM

Cheryl and Luther killing it on Soul Train.

by Anonymousreply 31May 28, 2015 4:42 PM

Yes but do you know who Renee Diggs is?

by Anonymousreply 32May 28, 2015 4:47 PM

I think Ms. Warwick needs to weigh in on this matter.

by Anonymousreply 33May 28, 2015 5:10 PM

Giving you the best shade that I've got....

by Anonymousreply 34May 28, 2015 5:15 PM

[quote] Yes but do you know who Renee Diggs is?

Oh yes!! But we must save that for another time.

by Anonymousreply 35May 28, 2015 5:26 PM

"Got To Be Real" was the theme song for the epic "Paris Is Burning" -- it is legendary if only for that reason.

I, too, would welcome Miss Warwick's commentary on this twitter feud.

by Anonymousreply 36May 28, 2015 5:29 PM

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ....

Two has-beens from 100 years ago...who cares?

by Anonymousreply 37May 28, 2015 5:31 PM

Anita don't curr, hunty.

by Anonymousreply 38May 28, 2015 6:30 PM

I'd say a queen who keeps trying to make "hunty" happen is way more tired than Cheryl Lynn.

by Anonymousreply 39May 28, 2015 6:45 PM

Hunty happened, you fat whore.

Waddle back to your reinforced couch so you can catch Judge Judy, now.

HUNTY.

by Anonymousreply 40May 28, 2015 6:49 PM

Does anyone know why the old cow was blocked in the first place?

by Anonymousreply 41May 28, 2015 6:51 PM

Boy, you really suck at the comebacks. You're not just pathetic here. You're sucking all over datalounge. Hire a ghost writer if this is all you're gonna do all day.

by Anonymousreply 42May 28, 2015 6:51 PM

"Club Encore Battledance, featuring REX" ??

This video overwhelm's my senses!!!! I can only watch it in 10 second segments.

by Anonymousreply 43May 28, 2015 7:02 PM

OMFG, I haven't laughed this hard in a long time. Read the story at the link and the commenters' tweets are fucking hysterical. "Giving You the Best of These Blocks"!

by Anonymousreply 44May 28, 2015 7:06 PM

There's going to be some hair weaves a-flyin' when these two finally see each other face to face!

Shit just got (truly) real!

by Anonymousreply 45May 28, 2015 7:12 PM

overwhelms - oops the 's

by Anonymousreply 46May 28, 2015 7:19 PM

And yet, here you are, R37!

by Anonymousreply 47May 28, 2015 7:43 PM

Well, I'm not R37, R47 but I clicked on this link because I was interested in what could two well-respected artists have a feud over? I think this is an embarrassment for both of them! Here, they're nearly senior citizens, acting so ratchet and unbecoming to their professionalism and talent. What kind of example are they to younger people and even the younger artists? I know these mature women need publicity to go against all of these young nothings of today, but this is ridiculous. They both need to be concentrating on getting better management and gigs instead of wasting time with this "reality show" mess!

Anita Baker could easily have a successful upscale nightclub tour ie the Carlyle Room in NYC and similar places like that.

by Anonymousreply 48May 28, 2015 8:19 PM

It sounds like Anita started it. She was always one note and I heard she's broke.

by Anonymousreply 49May 28, 2015 8:24 PM

Nita is a C U N T

She and Luther Vandross out-cunted each other.

by Anonymousreply 50May 28, 2015 8:30 PM

[quote]It sounds like Anita started it. She was always one note and I heard she's broke.

Even more reason not to get involved with stupidness...

Mmph! I don't believe she is getting this. If I can get Dionne Warwick for $30K, this one can't be too far from that.

[quote] Does anyone know why the old cow was blocked in the first place?

Cherly is working on an album of duets. She probably rang Anita to guest on the album but Baker didn't return her call and the she blocked Lynn on Twitter.

Cherly Lynn had a great voice (perhaps she still has). And Got To Be Real and Shake It Up Tonight are classic tracks.

by Anonymousreply 52May 28, 2015 8:43 PM

Minimum Fee - U.S. Dates $150,000-$299,000

Minimum Fee - Intl. Dates $300,000-$499,000

Is Nita fucking serious?! Look, she was certainly huge in the 80s, but by the time the 90s rolled around her career fizzled out. Add on her huge diva behavior -- she could out-cunt Barbra, Aretha, Dionne, and the rest any day of the week! -- then it makes since why her career hasn't been hot for almost thirty years.

by Anonymousreply 53May 28, 2015 8:43 PM

Those high fees must be to feed the possum living on Anita's head.

by Anonymousreply 54May 28, 2015 8:46 PM

Cheryl just want the same ole love in return from Anita.

by Anonymousreply 55May 28, 2015 10:05 PM

Anita Baker has a horrible reputation for insane diva behavior. When she and Luther did that tour together, they damn near came to blows.

by Anonymousreply 56May 28, 2015 10:13 PM

Anita is coming for Cheryl!

Retweeting" Iyanla fix my life"

by Anonymousreply 57May 29, 2015 9:45 PM

I hear Got to Be Real on the radio on a nearly daily basis. I can't remember the last time I heard an Anita Baker song unless I've played it, myself.

by Anonymousreply 58May 29, 2015 9:51 PM

Listen to Got to be Real and tell me if any 20-something singer today comes even close. Man, such thin, tinny voices a la Swift, Katie Perry, Rhianna compared to Cheryl Lynn in '78 at 22 yrs old.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 59May 29, 2015 9:55 PM

False equivalency - you are comparing pop stars to a niche soul singer.

by Anonymousreply 60May 29, 2015 11:56 PM

That's also Cheryl's inimitable voice on Toto's "Georgy Porgy." She got huge radio play--back in the day.

by Anonymousreply 61May 30, 2015 1:22 AM

Someone at LSA said that Anita tends to block people on Twitter and that she blocked Stacy Lattisaw a while back.

Bitch sounds bipolar.

by Anonymousreply 62May 30, 2015 1:58 AM

Speakimg of Georgy Porgy....

This version includes Luther Vandross. I think anyone hearing this version, incluing Luther's nelly WHOOOO! at 0:03, would never doubt that he was one of the biggest MARYs that ever lived.
