Surprising Sexiness from Actors Not Normally Known for It

Not about gawking at celebrities for aging or gaining weight and losing their looks, but about getting ambushed by the sexiness (or beauty) of an actor (male or female) not usually associated with it.

When have you encountered hotness in an actor where you didn't expect to find it?

Robert Duvall? (See link.) Other startling sexiness?

I thought a number of the mutants from Beneath the Planet of the Apes were attractive - until the big reveal when they removed their masks.

I think their cowls framed their faces quite well.

I want a BtPotA designer outfit now.

I've been surprised by how hot I think Telly Savalas is in most anything, but what really opened my eyes was his performance in The Scalphunters, where he wears pink long johns for the entire film and still exudes a threatening masculinity.

I used to think he was a joke, but now when I see him, I want to start jerking off. Something about his manliness and confidence.

Tim Matheson's army physical scene from Yours, Mine & Ours.

He was 21 at the time of filming, so my perving gets a partial pass.

He would later induce another boner when he slipped out of his underwear and showed his ass in Animal House.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 15May 10, 2015 3:27 PM

Tim Matheson doesn't exactly fit into this category. One-time favorite of adolescent girls and perpetual favorite of gay men.

Nude scene in Animal House. He drops a towel, not underwear. All while talking about big titties and imitating a sorority girl's orgasm. Mine usually followed in close pursuit.

More Tim Matheson, just because.

A Little Sex was an awful film - save for the TM peeks.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 17May 10, 2015 3:50 PM

Matheson shows his ass again in the horror film Impulse with Meg Tilly. A small town drinks some kind of infected milk and everyone loses their impulse control, leading to rage murders and indiscriminate sex. The sex didn't go in the direction that I was praying for in the case of TM.

His ass fills out nicely in middle age. You can google "Tim Matheson Nude" and view the pic of his butt within the search, but the actual link is bad.

didn't Tim Matheson also do voices for various cartoons? Thought I heard this someplace. Like DL favorite Jonny Quest?

Tim Matheson did indeed voice the title character in the original Jonny Quest, the most homoerotic cartoon of its era.

Gregory Sierra died in The Towering Inferno as well. IIRC, it was when they released all the water and something fell over and crushed him. I didn't think he was hot in that one, though, so the sting was less painful.

Terence Stamp sticks his head round the door and opens his mouth. How will this legend of British acting introduce himself? What pearl of wisdom will he divulge? R36 same. Scheider in Jaws was my first real crush. I used to rewind his brief shirtless scene in that movie so many times. I was mesmerized by how tan he was.

And then in Jaws 2 there's a part where he's got his uniform shirt almost all the way unbuttoned that made me rewind a lot as well. He's still sexy in part 2, but moreso in the original.

Horrible film. I wonder what would have happened with his career if it had succeeded. I always thought he would have made an okay Burton Batman, though I would have gone with Alec Baldwin first.

I was absolutely obsessed with Tommy Lee Jones in 1994 when I was 12. What got me was the way he looked in jeans and how in charge he was in The Fugitive. (That was followed by The Cure and Blown Away, I must've watched those movies 50 times then). I don't know if he was considered sexy by the masses, but he sure was to me.

Ditto on TLJones, and only in that last scene of NCFOM.

Keitel recently in the Two men in town remake. Hottest he's been since Mean Streets. Dry old prune, inexplicably sexy and strutting around, in front of an frumpy old Brit hen. The dignity of hacking it with same old mannerisms, shamelessly probably (although he seems reinvented in Youth.)

by Anonymousreply 79May 13, 2015 5:03 AM

R76, Jimmy cut an exceptional douchey boytoy in Dusty rides again. The rethug really set in and made him stiff and steely in the later roles. The climax of Winchester '73 was his first go at obsessive rage, before Vertigo.

Michel Piccoli in crisp, creased, sweaty button-downs, from The Things of Life. In his prime a bit of reliable mid-fielder, not incredibly exceptional until the movie's over. And you realize how much imperceptible nuances, pauses, silence, just listening besides his functional bits, kept it together while his female, male costars took the spotlight.

by Anonymousreply 82May 13, 2015 5:18 AM

When Cagney was really young, in some of his gangster films he projects a kind of sexiness, esp with women. He kind of sneaks up behind them, gets close to them, etc. He was a great tap dancer as well, and does a pretty sexy tap dance on top of a bar with Ruby Keeler in the "Shanghai Lil" number in some Busby Berkeley movie.

Andy Griffith had some very sexy moments with Patricia Neal and Lee Remick in A FACE IN THE CROWD.

And I have always found John Cassavetes to be sexy in just about everything he ever did.

Charlie Chaplin in his "Burlesque Of Carmen", basically a parody of the famous opera. Dabney Coleman had a great ass too r112, I always wanted to spank and fuck him. In the 70s comedy series Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman there is a brief scene where his bare ass was shown in one of the episodes.

There is a lesser known actor somewhat popular in the 50s and 60s named Ralph Meeker who, to me, oozed sexiness in Picnic, Big House, USA and Something Wild. Nice ass, nice face and great smile. Never thought Burt Lancaster was sexy until I was in my 50s (I am now in my 60s), same went for Richard Boone in Have Gun, Will Travel, although I think those who produced that show caught on as he later did a number of shirt off scenes a few of which were also of him tied up.

by Anonymousreply 122May 23, 2015 4:36 AM

Willem Dafoe did it for me in Platoon and Boondocks Saints. Not really in anything else. Is he considered guy-hot? Or pretty much just ugly?

by Anonymousreply 123May 23, 2015 4:50 AM

*Boondock

by Anonymousreply 124May 23, 2015 4:52 AM
Keitel recently in the Two men in town remake. Hottest he's been since Mean Streets.

I think he was hotter in Scorsese's first film, Who's That Knocking at My Door, where he did a nude scene.

Mmmmmmm Ralph Meeker.

Looking back Ted Bessell was very dreamy in That Girl and the first Darin was much better looking on Bewitched.

Most of the time Miles Telfer looks like he got the role due to a relative but in Whiplash I wanted to slap him around also.

For r128:

Albert Finney in Stanley Donen's Two for the Road with Audrey Hepburn.

I know that he was being sold as a variant on a heartthrob with Tom Jones, but I didn't enjoy him or the film that much.

In Two for the Road, he was a bit randy, as in Tom Jones, but also both romantic and sexy. It's my favorite of his roles, with the possible exception of Poirot in Murder on the Orient Express, in which he was decidedly unsexy.

I admit I like the tempestuousness and testosterone on display by blowhard Norman Mailer (hairy back!) and the previously mentioned crazy-ass Rip Torn in Maidstone.

Their brawl starts at about 2:00 and escalates. The dialogue while Torn has Mailer pinned is priceless. Later, they argue about who is the real cocksucker.

Unbearable film, but a fascinating scene with mentally unbalanced performers engaged in a preposterous contest of masculinity.

Dustin Hoffman was never again as hot as he was in his film debut The Graduate. He rocked that 1967 bathing suit.

Speaking of Bruce Dern, I'd also like to mention his shirtless scene in the kitchen with Barbara Harris in The Family Plot.

by Anonymousreply 132November 21, 2015 1:32 PM

Chris Cooper in John Sayles' last great movie, LONE STAR. Incredibly sexy in his scenes with Elizabeth Pena.

by Anonymousreply 133November 21, 2015 1:33 PM

Henry Winkler in The Lords of Flatbush from '74.

The role won him the part of Fonzie, and while the latter was mostly (and increasingly as the series wore on) cartoonish bravado, his Butchey in Flatbush was full of youthful, sexual anxiety. And beauty.

Please note here the duck lips on Stallone, who was actually far hotter in the film than in this photo. Also, Perry King!

People will often cite Brad Pitt or George Clooney as one of the hottest actors of the 90s but as my tastes tend to run toward the unorthodox I have to say that to me, Jim Carrey was the sexiest of the decade by FAR. And in "The Cable Guy" I think he was at his most handsome and fuckable.

Andy Garcia not known for his sexiness? His gorgeous looks and huge sex appeal were the reasons he became famous.

Jeff Bridges in "Against All Odds". Though cute in many of his previous movies.....the sleek muscles, full body tan, beard and golden brown pubes really turned him into jo fantasy material.

A two-fer: Charles Bronson and Henry Fonda in ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST. Fonda, perhaps the most famous example of "casting against type" in film history, is particularly sexy in the flashback scene (they threw a wig on him to make him look younger): the way he saunters onto the scene in slow-mo, with that evil smile...
I'd be harder pressed to find him in a role where he was NOT sexy.

No shit, R120.

One of his sexiest scenes was one where there was no sex involved: [italic]Places of the Heart,[/italic] where Wayne and Margaret make out while sharing a piece of cake.

by Anonymousreply 146November 21, 2015 5:21 PM

I'm not sure if r139 was alluding to Tab Hunter or Jim Backus but, call me crazy, I've always had daddy issues for Jim Backus.

by Anonymousreply 147November 21, 2015 7:10 PM

For r147 - dirty talk from daddy. He is using his Mr. Magoo voice.

Was this really what passed for comedy back then?

The '74 Gatsby is the absolutely worst cast film I've ever seen.

Everybody is wrong wrong wrong (especially Dern)except for Sam Waterston who I've found impossibly sexy and hot ever since I was a boy and saw him in Much Ado About Nothing.

I'm the only one I know who feels this way.

I also saw not too long ago an old That Girl and I was totally floored when the 60s clean cut very cute neighbor turned out to be Dabney Coleman.

by Anonymousreply 149November 21, 2015 11:50 PM

Any photos of the hot young Dabney Coleman out there? I guess he's straight but I don't remember ever hearing anything about his personal life.

by Anonymousreply 150November 22, 2015 12:53 AM
Ed Harris in what?I'd be harder pressed to find him in a role where he was NOT sexy.

Ed seems to have grown into his looks... I saw him in the movie "Coma" the other night and thought he looked surprisingly geeky and unattractive. But then again it's hard to look sexy holding somebody's spleen.

Yeah, just saw Dabney in some old 60s tv episodes and was surprised how handsome he looked.

I really like the way the old film color processes brought out the color of the actor's eyes.

R132 I thought Dern was hot in The Burbs. I watched that movie a ton as a kid, and there's one scene where he is in his boxers and an untied bathrobe frantically rooting through the back of a garbage truck, and I used to pause that scene and go frame by frame to try to get a peek under the leg hole of the shorts to see his dick. Never saw anything, but still loved his hairy chest.

Donald Sutherland - Don't Look Now.

He had a seventies gay clone look that worked quite well for him during a brief window.

Plus the rumors of real fucking for the sex scenes with Julie Christie.

I I found Jeremy Irons very sexy in The French Lieutenant's Woman. Charles Grodin could also come off sexy in a nerdy way. And to the poster above, Sam Waterson also made my groins stir in Gatsby.

by Anonymousreply 158June 25, 2017 8:12 PM

"Sexist egotistical lying hypocritical bigot"...and a hot daddy, too! Liked how Dabney Coleman's three-piece suit looked on him (and his big butt) in "9 To 5." And never knew until recently about his full rear exposure in "Modern Problems" as I never saw that film. Very nice flashback, if you'll pardon the pun.

by Anonymousreply 159March 4, 2018 12:20 PM

R58, HTH was the sexiness of Ian McShane ever "surprising" to you??

by Anonymousreply 160March 4, 2018 12:51 PM

R81, Same question to you. Martin Sheen began with sexiness.

Michal Caine. Well, not now, but when he was younger. In Get Carter and The Italian Job he was crazy sexy. A little too young and scrawny in Alfie, but holy fuck. Those heavy lidded eyes are HOT.

by Anonymousreply 163March 4, 2018 1:33 PM

I've always thought of Edward Norton as sexy, r162. I have never looked at him and not wanted him to take his pants off.

by Anonymousreply 166March 4, 2018 3:34 PM

I realized how sexy Duvall was when I watched Lonesome Dove. There's a lot of sexy in that series.

by Anonymousreply 167March 9, 2018 9:12 AM

R167, have you read the book? Itā€™s a great read. The mini-series casting was spot on.

by Anonymousreply 168March 9, 2018 1:09 PM

I always liked David Strathairn but when he showed off a lean, tight bod in A Map Of The World, I realized how hot he was.

by Anonymousreply 169March 9, 2018 3:11 PM

Yes, R168, I did read the book, and the casting was perfect. I believe that at one point early on Duvall considered playing Woodrow Call, but his wife talked him out of it. She knew he had to be Gus.

by Anonymousreply 170March 10, 2018 9:31 AM

Iā€™ve never read a novel, subsequently made into a movie, where nearly all the characters matched my perceptions of what each would look like as Lonesome Dove. It is over a thousand pages, and I was sorry there wasnā€™t more...
