Back in my youth, I wanted to see that movie. This was before VHS (had much in terms of classics) and DVD etc etc. My university never showed it. Finally a dumpy porno theatre on Market Street (SF) showed it between gay porno features. It was PERFECT!

30 minutes in:

I taught at a chic swiss boarding school when the first first wave of Chinese gilded youth arrived. They had HIDEOUS teeth and dental hygiene. Within a few years, the newer arrivals looked all-american pepsodent perfect.

I always wanted to see this movie back in my student days when we'd see all these banned foreign films, but I just couldn't do it: too notorious. Finally saw it last summer and of course graphically, it's not as bad as I feared (although pretty bad) BUT . . . it haunted and depressed me for a long time afterward. It was Pasolini's Communist Manifesto and being descended myself from 1848 socialists, I pretty much wanted off this planet or at least find my own little cave somewhere in the Himalaya's. This movie pretty much summed up humanity for me historically and philosophically.
