Ya know, way back in the early 60's, San Francisco was a middle class city, strong unions and affordable housing for everyone. Now ess eff has become another New York with housing prices out of sight.

And now, no one eats Rice-a-roni in San Francisco any more.

by Anonymousreply 5April 27, 2015 3:17 AM

Don't we think it is in part because rice is associated with Asians and San Francisco with "exoticism" of Asian immigrants bringing their tantalizing cuisine (like chop suey, mixed with all that hokus and ballyhooey) to California?

Because in SF in the 70s, it was pretty well known that if you wore a purple and tan bandanna in your back pocket, you were into fisting with Rice a Roni. Thats why.

Saucy and simple the flavour can't be beaten

Rice of Roni, it's free of wheat an'

by Anonymousreply 8September 16, 2018 9:54 AM

Because like San Fran it used to be good but now its garbage.

by Anonymousreply 9September 16, 2018 10:19 AM

I still like Rice a Roni, there I said it.

Of course its probably been 20 years since the last time I tried it, but still, I am going out tomorrow and pick up a box. Dont knock it until you tried it, people used to talk shit about Mac and Cheese now back full swing in every gastropub in the city.

by Anonymousreply 10September 16, 2018 10:37 AM

It does taste good.

by Anonymousreply 11September 16, 2018 10:51 AM

If you add some salt it is especially tasty.

by Anonymousreply 12September 16, 2018 11:08 AM

Because it’s sautéed and simmered.

by Anonymousreply 13September 16, 2018 11:08 AM

Without Rice-A-Roni what would losing game show contestants get? Ok, aside from Turtle Wax?

by Anonymousreply 15September 16, 2018 11:38 AM

R15 And Z-Brick. Don't forget Z-Brick.

by Anonymousreply 16September 16, 2018 11:53 AM
