Has anyone seen it? Just watched and would like to discuss. Julianne Moore was great and some funny Hollywood insider lines.
Map to the Stars

Just watched it I love it. Julianne screams, cries, fucks, farts, drinks, pops pills it's perfect.

I saw it on TV a month ago. I was struck by how horrible John Cusack now looks. It was an interesting film, but it did not live up to my expectations re:David Cronenberg's other films. It seemed really over the top to me(esp. the behavior of Julianne's character) but I did think the girl who played the burn victim was pretty decent. I hated the kid who played her brother. Completely unbelievable as a tween megastar IMO. SPOILER ALERT!!!!
The immolation scene was perhaps the worst single act I've seen on film next to the doll "baby" in American Sniper. It looked like something I'd concoct myself on my MacBook. But, having said all that, I would recommend it to anyone who loves films about the industry and LA. I'd give it a 5 out of 10.

Does anyone remember the gay-themed "Star Maps?"

Yes! I liked Star Maps much more than I did Map to the Stars.

I think Julianne should've won the Oscar for this, not "Still Alice." In fact, I'm just going to pretend that she did like I pretend Kate Winslet really won for "Revolutionary Road" instead of that piece of shit, "The Reader."

Julianne was amazing.
Horrible CGI scene excepted, I really enjoyed it. I laughed my head off for a big portion of it, but my friend was puzzled the entire time.
I think it just depends on how you like Cronenberg.

I think Julianne won for this more than Still Alice, there has to be a lot of politics that goes on and Still Alice was the one that they pushed for her. I loved the scene where she gets hit on the head with the statue, what was that award anyway?

I liked the Carrie Fisher cameo...why does she talk so funny? It sounds like her tongue is swollen.

"Chore whore" Do people really use that term?

Dark, dark chocolate satire.
"You're a BAD Babysitter!" LOL
Moore's murder cracked me up, too.

I loved it but the Bird kid...couldn't they have found a more attractive boy? He reminded me of Shia...with less appeal.
Sorry to sound mean but what the heck?

I guess my favorite part was...I shouldn't say.
Cusack was good, very understated performance.

Oh yeah, I had forgotten about the scene where the guy was playing with himself. We should see that more often. Probably the main reason it didn't really show in theaters.

I am watching this tonight. Looks very interesting.

Julianne was excellent in this film. Even her sitting on the toilet scene trying to poop was funny. Should have won the Oscar for this one instead of the Alice flick.

I got high as a kite and watched this. Cronenberg and weed are a dependable combination and this was no exception.
Julianne Moore has an extended poop scene, and it’s movie magic.
Really, it’s one of her best performances, playing a character who becomes increasingly unpleasant and valid throughout the film.
Robert Pattinson is fascinating to look at and probably the closest thing to a sympathetic character of all the Hollywood monsters depicted.

I thought the acting was pretty good in this film. Julianne Moore, Mia wasikowska, and Robert Pattinson were very well cast. I had to laugh at the scene where Moores character runs in to her professional rival outside a store and had to fake sweetness and light. There were so many darkly funny scenes in the film.

I really enjoyed it. Julianne is incredible as always.

^ And then after learning of said child’s face, JM’s exhilarating dance outside her house.
It made me queasy in a David Cronenbergy way, segueing from satire into a sickening void.

R21 That scene was jaw dropping but Julianne really made it work in a creepy way. The juxtaposition of her initial shock and dismay, then the slow realization that this would benefit her, then finally full on ecstatic excitement.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | January 1, 2019 9:48 PM |
I read shock into her initial reaction, but any visible dismay, I felt, was acting.
That was a great scene: She and her agent both communicating in superficial sympathetic tones when the undercurrent was sheer opportunism.

R23 "Any visible dismay ...was acting ". interesting interpretation, you may be right. In the beginning of the scene she seemed taken aback enough that I sort of gave her a benefit of a doubt ,but maybe she was just trying to put on a socially correct face. Fucked up young starlets of today should watch this film as a cautionary tale.

Mia was quite good in this film as well. She managed to come across as both psychotically unhinged and naive and virginal at the same time. Loved Robert Pattinson s aspiring actor writer character too.
