Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

You know, if some of you mean old ladies who constantly bitch and moan about Tina Fey actually watched the show, you'd like it.

Much more than 30 Rock, Kimmy Schmidt is a pretty traditional sitcom. It's got some great laughs and it's also sweet, in the best possible way.

by Anonymousreply 58April 7, 2021 12:36 AM

I just downloaded and watched the whole of season 1 back to back.

Absolutely hilarious and touching! Titus Burgess's character was fantastic. Really looking forward to season 2.

by Anonymousreply 1April 12, 2015 1:34 AM

Forgot to say that Jane Krakowski was also amazing in her role.

by Anonymousreply 2April 12, 2015 1:37 AM

Absolutely one of the funniest shows I've seen, as of late. I'd assume Dl'ers would love it.

by Anonymousreply 3April 12, 2015 1:39 AM

not watching that outdated crap

by Anonymousreply 4April 12, 2015 1:41 AM

Love it--absolutely hilarious. Some of the best dialogue ever.

by Anonymousreply 5April 12, 2015 1:44 AM

The celebrity dermatologist parodied by Martin Short in "Kimmy Schmidt" committed suicide.

I almost peed myself when bats flew in during the Pinot Noir video shoot.

by Anonymousreply 7April 12, 2015 1:50 AM

Funniest sitcom in years.

Can't remember when I laughed that hard.

Thank God it's nothing like the cringeworthy sitcoms on broadcast TV today.

by Anonymousreply 8April 12, 2015 1:51 AM

Really, r6??? No one here knew that!

You can watch the 1st episode HERE on YouTube (in a wonky picture frame format) if you don't have Netflix.

Hurry before it's pulled down.

Tina Fey?

Pass.

by Anonymousreply 11April 12, 2015 2:05 AM

[quote]not watching that outdated crap

Do you even know what you're bitching about?

by Anonymousreply 12April 12, 2015 2:23 AM

"Pretty traditional sitcom" sounds awful. I hope it's not that.

by Anonymousreply 13April 12, 2015 2:31 AM

It's anything but R13.

by Anonymousreply 14April 12, 2015 2:35 AM

At its core, it is totally a traditional sitcom. Naive young woman moves to big city, encounters wacky natives, learns and grows.

by Anonymousreply 15April 12, 2015 4:36 AM

exactly, R15, that's why I'm not watching that outdated crap

by Anonymousreply 16April 12, 2015 4:48 AM

You're missing out then, R16.

by Anonymousreply 17April 12, 2015 4:50 AM

It has more rape than the "traditional sitcom".

by Anonymousreply 18April 12, 2015 4:51 AM

tina fey bores me

by Anonymousreply 19April 12, 2015 4:52 AM

I watched the first ten episodes. I'd say that's giving it plenty of chances.

Bored to tears with the desperation of it. And I'm a Tina Fey fan.

by Anonymousreply 20April 12, 2015 4:54 AM

[quote]You're missing out then

Not missing much of Tina Fey

by Anonymousreply 21April 12, 2015 4:58 AM

R21 had better stick to Antenna TV.

by Anonymousreply 22April 12, 2015 5:14 AM

I feel sorry for R21. His idea of female comedy is acting like a baby and screaming a lot, a la Lucy.

by Anonymousreply 23April 12, 2015 8:35 AM

Totes Funny. Binge it Biotches.

by Anonymousreply 24April 12, 2015 12:39 PM

I watched 5 episodes just hoping it would get funnier. I think maybe it's more for Americans? I love comedies, but I didn't get it. It was very boring.

by Anonymousreply 25April 12, 2015 1:02 PM

Tina Fey owes her success to the millions of ugly girls and fat gays who got tired of looking at model-type people becoming famous (but don't want to deign to see themselves in, say, Melissa McCarthy). They thought- finally, a woman who isn't being praised for her looks, but for her talent.

The only problem is the talent is minuscule.

And Tina, hon, we all know you have a wonky eye. You can stop trying to hide it by looking to the side in every glamour shot you take. Trust me, with your fans, the eye would give you cred.

by Anonymousreply 26April 12, 2015 3:47 PM

R26 is just babbling bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 27April 12, 2015 4:54 PM

Tina Fey's fame and success is due to a clique mentality.

30 Rock struggled endlessly in the ratings but the network kept it going because this 'aren't we so special' clique. Other promising shows were jettison just after a couple of episodes but not 30 Rock. I watched 30 Rock and it was the most badly edited and forced network sitcom in the history of broadcasting.

There's nothing special about Tina Fey. Nada.

Slut!

Such bullshit.

[quote]There's nothing special about Tina Fey. Nada.

Yet you've posted about her four times in this thread alone.

by Anonymousreply 30April 12, 2015 5:59 PM

Oh so there's a quota of posts now in a discussion? Lame argument R30

by Anonymousreply 31April 12, 2015 6:02 PM

I watched four episodes and I really tried to like it but when just about every single character is a ridiculously overblown cartoon, it just gets exhausting.

by Anonymousreply 32April 12, 2015 6:13 PM

[quote] Yet you've posted about her four times in this thread alone.

Yeah, that's called a conversation.

by Anonymousreply 33April 12, 2015 9:45 PM

I just watch the pilot and hated it. Does it get better?

by Anonymousreply 34April 13, 2015 12:05 AM

Love the age argument. Like Tina Fey is huge among the teens and early twenty somethings!!

PUHLEEZE!

by Anonymousreply 35April 13, 2015 12:20 AM

I love this show, but could do less of the uber gay room mate.

by Anonymousreply 36April 13, 2015 2:43 PM

R36 he's the best part!

It could do less with the Asian boyfriend though...

by Anonymousreply 37April 13, 2015 2:50 PM

I watched to episode 4, just long enough to see the Dr.. Really the show sucks.

by Anonymousreply 38April 13, 2015 2:58 PM

I don't mind the Asian guy at all.

by Anonymousreply 39April 13, 2015 2:58 PM

[quote]Trust me, with your fans, the eye would give you cred.

NOW you tell me!

by Anonymousreply 40April 13, 2015 3:25 PM

R32 is right---"I watched four episodes and I really tried to like it but when just about every single character is a ridiculously overblown cartoon, it just gets exhausting."

by Anonymousreply 41April 13, 2015 4:22 PM

Some very funny stuff, now and then. But overall, trying waaaaa-aaaaay too hard, like a lot of shows these days. It gets annoying real fast.

by Anonymousreply 42April 13, 2015 4:32 PM

R28 - I am curious what were all the other worthy shows that were jettisoned in favor of 30 Rock?

by Anonymousreply 43April 13, 2015 4:39 PM

It has its moments. But there's something "off" about it I can't quite pinpoint.

Maybe the characters aren't nice enough for me to like or grotesque enough for me to revel in them saying the unsayable. Maybe its because the plotting and stories each episode are really erratic and unfulfilling. Maybe it just feels a little too pleased with itself when it's not doing anything new.

I'm a gay woman, so perhaps not my place to judge, but the gay flatmate seems such an outdated cliche and so devoid of rounded personality or light and shade.

by Anonymousreply 44April 13, 2015 4:56 PM

What Asian boyfriend?

by Anonymousreply 45April 13, 2015 5:52 PM

I love the gay roommate. He's the breakout star of the show. And Carol Kane is hilarious.

by Anonymousreply 46April 13, 2015 5:52 PM

I finished the first season last weekend and I enjoyed it.

I truly don't understand the hatred some of you old folks have for Tina Fey.

by Anonymousreply 47April 13, 2015 6:43 PM

[quote]I just watch the pilot and hated it. Does it get better?

Yes, it absolutely does!

I wasn't impressed with the pilot, but gave the next ep a chance and was hooked!

by Anonymousreply 48April 24, 2015 6:38 AM

I defy anyone to withstand any more than five minutes of 'Pompidou' -- a new series just out on Netflix. I mean, WTF!?

by Anonymousreply 49April 24, 2015 11:49 AM

*bumpity-poo*

by Anonymousreply 50April 27, 2015 9:53 PM

SOOOOOOOO L.A.M.E!!

by Anonymousreply 51April 27, 2015 10:06 PM

It's fun. I do agree a lot of Dataloungers would enjoy the show if they weren't such grumpy, old, know-it-all-cunts.

by Anonymousreply 52April 28, 2015 2:41 AM

"Peee-nooooooooh noir!"

by Anonymousreply 53April 28, 2015 4:31 AM

Tina Fey is a good writer. Her Weekend Update stuff was clever and consistently funny. Mean Girls was an entertaining movie due to the script and the actresses who played the Plastics. And of course Lizzy Caplan as the ostracized "weird girl". I wondered then why I could never get into 30 Rock. I couldn't get past the first five minutes of any episode. I think r28 has it right. A clique of smug, mostly marginally talented, and very unattractive actors who play even smugger, untalented and very unattractive characters. Anyone who thinks Tracey Morgan is funny must have a rare, inoperable brain tumor. Even Baldwin managed to bore me. I'll give Kimmy Schmitt a chance though. I'm a sucker for comedy.

by Anonymousreply 54April 29, 2015 1:46 AM

R28 is nowhere close to being correct.

"Smug" is a term people use when they don't get the jokes.

by Anonymousreply 55April 29, 2015 2:37 AM

Guess I touched a nerve;) I read r55's in Alec Baldwins voice. Now THAT was funny.

by Anonymousreply 56April 29, 2015 8:58 AM

Ironic

by Anonymousreply 57April 6, 2021 10:39 PM

It’s hilarious. I loved Dr. Fraannfff. Too bad about the real one though
