In other words, a business, landlord, hospital, school or your employer, discriminates against you and you have no recourse. Wal-Mart could basically say "our corporation is a "religious person" that is offended by your morals" and refuse to serve or hire or rent to you. No legal remedies like lawsuits available.

The original law was more about individual humans to individuals. Like, "I'm against birth control so I won't fill your prescription." Not great either, but not this bad.

The federal law only protected individuals from discrimination by the government in their religious practices. The Indiana law goes further, involving actions by private citizens.

That Indiana Pizza shop that went out of its way to say that it wouldn't cater a marriage between two gay people has closed. Of course the $800,000 that a go fund me account raised for them probably has more to do with it than a drop off of business, but at least they are out of business.
