Indiana pizza shop won't serve gays, owner says 'we're not discriminating against anyone'
by Anonymous | reply 519 | April 24, 2018 2:06 PM |
Do you really want the woman in that photo touching your food??
by Anonymous | reply 2 | April 1, 2015 3:18 PM |
Talk about burying the lede: She told the press she'd "never deliver a pizza to a gay wedding"!
by Anonymous | reply 3 | April 1, 2015 3:19 PM |
If a gay wedding is having pizza delivered, they deserve all of the abuse they get!
Cash bar, too, no doubt.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | April 1, 2015 3:22 PM |
Do these idiots know what the word "discriminating" means?
Indiana is going down.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | April 1, 2015 3:22 PM |
No self-respecting gay man would eat that guinea trash.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | April 1, 2015 3:27 PM |
By "that guinea trash," R6, do you mean pizza in general?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | April 1, 2015 3:29 PM |
I mean carb-laden greasy crap. Eat what they actually eat in Italy and it's nothing like this HFCS-laden bilge.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | April 1, 2015 3:32 PM |
The reviews are great!
by Anonymous | reply 9 | April 1, 2015 3:35 PM |
HFCS-laden pizza? The dough?
I love my Neapolitan...mmmmm.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | April 1, 2015 3:42 PM |
Crystal O'Connor?
You ARE an asshole, darlin'!
by Anonymous | reply 11 | April 1, 2015 3:47 PM |
Humpty-Dumpty had nothin' on this ignorant dame.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | April 1, 2015 3:53 PM |
They should rename their shop "Memory" because that is all it'll be before too long.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | April 1, 2015 3:57 PM |
It's my religion to torch such businesses.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | April 1, 2015 4:06 PM |
They're already disconnected their phone lulz
by Anonymous | reply 15 | April 1, 2015 4:12 PM |
I don't care really, it just allows me to be sure I'm spending my money supporting businesses that don't hate me.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | April 1, 2015 4:14 PM |
Whee! Capitalism is fun!
by Anonymous | reply 17 | April 1, 2015 4:18 PM |
Make sure to leave them a review on Facebook as well…it's simple & easy!
by Anonymous | reply 18 | April 1, 2015 4:23 PM |
Thank you, r1!!!! I have tears running down my face from some of the reviews.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | April 1, 2015 4:35 PM |
This has got to be the most self-destructive straw-man ever.
Ignorant owners conjure out of nowhere an unasked-for example of a never-happening deed: a gay couple's requesting this doofus place to "cater"---Bwahahahaha!---their wedding! And feel the fire and brimstone of Yelp and FB posts rain down upon them!
BTW: Is take-out pizza the wedding nuptials' entree' of choice in Indiana?!
by Anonymous | reply 20 | April 1, 2015 4:56 PM |
Among the white trash set that frequents that joint, probably.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | April 1, 2015 4:59 PM |
Yelp page appears to be offline. Anybody know what any of the reviews said?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | April 1, 2015 5:00 PM |
try again r22. it just worked for me
by Anonymous | reply 23 | April 1, 2015 5:04 PM |
BTW: Is take-out pizza the wedding nuptials' entree' of choice in Indiana?!
Only if Chick-Fil-A is overbooked.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | April 1, 2015 5:10 PM |
Today is April Fool's Day, people. And who would name a pizza shop Memories?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | April 1, 2015 5:11 PM |
And who would name a pizza shop Memories?
Because it will soon be just a memory.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 1, 2015 5:13 PM |
The O'Connors, r25.
The O'Connors have owned Memories Pizza in Walkerton for 9 years.
It's a small-town business, with small-town ideals.
“We are a Christian establishment,” says O'Connor. (Source: Local TV news)
by Anonymous | reply 27 | April 1, 2015 5:20 PM |
Yeah, like any self-respecting homosexual is going to have fucking pizza and pulled-pork sandwiches for their wedding reception. Kiss my ass, Memories!
I grew up in Indiana. My X-tian "parents" threw me out of the house at 15. I was on the streets for almost two years. Good Christian love for you there, huh? Fuck them. I have not spoken to them since that rainy night in 1977.
Oh, by the way, I hope my Indiana fuckwad "parents" and "siblings" never find out that, once I landed on my feet, I started my own company and am now a multi-millionaire. I guarantee my "lifestyle choice" would be forgiven by them in the blink of an eye if they thought they could get their hands on some cash. Cunts! Luckily I have an airtight will. They'll never see a dime.
This incident is typical Indiana. I left that state in July of 1979 and will NEVER return.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 1, 2015 5:22 PM |
It looks like a news team went out looking for a business--any business--that would go on camera & agree with this new law, and these 'tards were dumb enough to fall for it. Enjoy your shit storm!
by Anonymous | reply 30 | April 1, 2015 5:29 PM |
I am all for businesses deciding who they want to serve. I don't want anyone forced to do business with me or anyone else they don't want to do business with. I'll spend my $$ where it is wanted and appreciated. Let them cut off their nose to spite their face. They are the ones losing out.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | April 1, 2015 5:30 PM |
Are you kidding R30? They think this is great publicity.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | April 1, 2015 5:30 PM |
Well done r28!!!! I can not fathom how a parent could do that to their child. They could not have been good parents to begin with.
If that were me, I would want them to know that I was highly successful just so I could tell them to fuck off.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | April 1, 2015 5:33 PM |

I have a M uslim friend who is gay and it's pretty obvious he's gay, including his profession. No one in his family talks about it, but they all know and still, they never considered disowning him. He just lives his life. And they're religious, head-covered, praying five-times-a-day religious people.
You never really know who will and won't react badly.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | April 1, 2015 5:33 PM |
This really is turning into Christian Sharia law.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | April 1, 2015 5:35 PM |
r31, I'm sorry to tell you, but yours is a post of supreme ignorance.
It isn't about YOU or what YOU think is "spiting their face."
by Anonymous | reply 36 | April 1, 2015 5:37 PM |
R28 what kind of company do you own? I'm curious.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | April 1, 2015 5:39 PM |
I would not serve her in my restaurant because she is fat from gluttony and that is a sin.
Derived from the Latin gluttire, meaning to gulp down or swallow, gluttony (Latin, gula) is the over-indulgence and over-consumption of anything to the point of waste. In Christianity, it is considered a sin if the excessive desire for food causes it to be withheld from the needy.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | April 1, 2015 5:41 PM |
From the looks of things they clearly don't need the money.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | April 1, 2015 5:42 PM |
I'm not discriminating against anyone, but if ever I am in Buttfuck, Indiana, I shan't be stopping by Memories Pizza for din-din. I might stop by and take a shit in front of their main entrance.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | April 1, 2015 5:42 PM |
I just called them, finally got through - I said, guess you guys jumped the gun, idiots, and now you're going to have gay customers AND get your ass sued AND you have 200 shitty yelp reviews. Learn to keep your mouth shut babe." All I got was a muttered "fuck you" and disconnect.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | April 1, 2015 5:45 PM |
They think this is great publicity.
I doubt if they'll think this is "great publicity" when they look at Yelp.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | April 1, 2015 5:46 PM |
Let's look up addresses in their bumfuck town and have pizzas delivered. Or just call and ask for a pizza for pick-up. First, tell them that you admire their christian values to put them at ease.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | April 1, 2015 5:52 PM |
It is about me as much as it is about any other gay person. You are the ignorant one here, R36. Bigotry can not be legislated out of existence. They don't want to cater gay weddings? Fine. Give that considerable amount of money and any resulting referrals to someone who will. It will hurt their business much more than it will hurt any individuals they refuse to serve.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | April 1, 2015 5:53 PM |
Hillbillies, Rethugs, and Religious fanatics are ridiculous. The majority of those assholes "protecting their religious freedom" haven't stepped foot in a church in decades. They are just exercising their bigotry.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | April 1, 2015 6:00 PM |
Someone needs to place orders from this pizza place and have them delivered to the Governor and the state legislators who backed this bill.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | April 1, 2015 6:05 PM |
It doesn't matter to me that they don't serve gays. I don't eat 'em anyway. Well, I actually I do, but that's a different story, lol.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | April 1, 2015 6:08 PM |
LOL!!
by Anonymous | reply 48 | April 1, 2015 6:12 PM |
Bigotry can not be legislated out of existence.
You're a simpleton. It's about the law and the Constitution. It's about equal protection under the law and public accommodations discrimination.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | April 1, 2015 6:13 PM |
What gets me is that they refuse to serve us, yet, throughout the course of a day they serve convicted murderers, child molesters, wife beaters, child abusers, drug dealers, drug addicts, whores, alcoholics, liars, thieves, and Atheists that come through their doors, but they draw the line at serving us. That makes a hell of a lot of sense.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | April 1, 2015 6:15 PM |
They have nearly 2k reviews on FB already lulz
by Anonymous | reply 51 | April 1, 2015 6:16 PM |
Actually R50, she says in the news piece that they'll serve gays--they just won't cater our weddings.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | April 1, 2015 6:17 PM |
Just remembered it's April 1st.
Has this whole thing been a joke?
by Anonymous | reply 53 | April 1, 2015 6:18 PM |
R50 that's not what they said. They said they WOULD serve people in their restaurant, but they would NOT cater a LGBTQ wedding.
Fuck, that's all they said and everyone here loses their shit and calls them & makes threats to the sm biz.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | April 1, 2015 6:19 PM |
R52, She won't be serving me or my family.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | April 1, 2015 6:20 PM |
Okay.... pizza wedding? I'm warming to such an idea...
by Anonymous | reply 56 | April 1, 2015 6:23 PM |
Newsflash, R54: That is still discrimination.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | April 1, 2015 6:23 PM |
r52, and that's what's so rich about this. She brought a world of hurt down upon herself and business for a hypothetical that would NEVER happen.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | April 1, 2015 6:24 PM |
And that, R55, is how it works.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | April 1, 2015 6:24 PM |
Holy redeemer, Batman! Good Christian girl Crystal does not have her head covered as instructed by the holy bible. Also, unless my eyes deceive me, she is wearing a uniform made of two different types of cloth!
Leviticus--the same book which condemns us to death--clearly states this woman should be stoned to death. I wonder if Indiana would respect my religious faith understanding of their old testament?
by Anonymous | reply 62 | April 1, 2015 6:32 PM |
I'm straight but I talked back to my parents once. Since, by the book of Leviticus, I should have been stoned to death, will they serve me?
by Anonymous | reply 63 | April 1, 2015 6:36 PM |
There should be a flood of flowers in all the colors of the rainbow sent to that hole, y'know, In Memoriam. With cards that say things like "Sorry to hear about your ignorance. Love, Uncle Tanya" or "Thanks! - Papa John"
by Anonymous | reply 64 | April 1, 2015 6:37 PM |
R63, They will serve you, unless they find out you posted on a gay website. Then you're fucked and outta luck.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | April 1, 2015 6:40 PM |
I knew a girl who ate there once... and then she died.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | April 1, 2015 6:47 PM |
If you get a glimpse of her nasty-ass fingers in that news story, you wouldn't want her making your pizza anyway.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | April 1, 2015 7:02 PM |
America's Best Christian, Mrs. Betty Bowers, posted her opinion.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | April 1, 2015 7:08 PM |
stinky linky, R68
by Anonymous | reply 70 | April 1, 2015 7:11 PM |
wtf? The syphilitic looking cunt of an owner thinks gays are going to order pizza for their weddings. She definitely needs to get out of her trailer park more, starting with a trip to get a dose of penicillin since what little bit of brain she started with has failed.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | April 1, 2015 7:21 PM |
These poor people. How could they know just how many gay porn movies have been produced with a pizza delivery theme?
by Anonymous | reply 73 | April 1, 2015 7:43 PM |
Here's a list of people good, Bible-believin' Christians should discriminate against:
by Anonymous | reply 74 | April 1, 2015 8:01 PM |
Not to stick up for them, but they didn't say they wouldn't serve gays. They said they wouldn't cater a gay wedding.
Which suggests a question. How many people have their weddings catered by a pizza joint, let alone how many gay couples would have their weddings catered by a pizza joint in Walkerton, Indiana!
by Anonymous | reply 75 | April 1, 2015 8:04 PM |
But then what was the point of even going on camera if they were going to just say that in-store service for gays would remain unaffected?
To come up with some hypothetical gay wedding that they won't cater seems like the height of retardation.
Also, I'd never eat anything prepared by a person who looks like that girl looks. She looks like the kind of person who gets shit on her hands when she wipes her own ass.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | April 1, 2015 8:07 PM |
How many people have their weddings catered by a pizza joint, let alone how many gay couples would have their weddings catered by a pizza joint in Walkerton, Indiana!
What an original thought!
by Anonymous | reply 77 | April 1, 2015 8:18 PM |
Gays will order things like cum and shit on my pizza.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | April 1, 2015 8:29 PM |
Of course her name is Crystal.
Common white trash...how many gays live in Walkerton, IN, pop. 2,144, anyway?
by Anonymous | reply 79 | April 1, 2015 8:33 PM |
I highly doubt any gay people ever go to this pizza shop, I live not too far from Walkerton, but I live across the state line in Michigan.
This pizza shop owner isn't worried about serving gay people but he saw what happened to Chick-fil-A when people were boycotting them. Chick-fil-A in the area had tons of bigoted people waiting in line for hours. He figured deny gays wedding pizza, which they would never want in the first place, and his business would be flooded with people who support this law, and in this area there are tons of people like him.
He might not like gays, but he is just trying to get the bigot business from some Christians and they are stupid enough to fall for it.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | April 1, 2015 8:42 PM |
But then what was the point of even going on camera if they were going to just say that in-store service for gays would remain unaffected?
That news reporter was out & about looking for ANYONE willing to speak on the issue, and Crystal stupidly took the bait. I almost feel sorry for her. What a mistake.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | April 1, 2015 8:44 PM |
I don't live there but more than likely any gay person in town has to live in the closet. I hope they marry straight people and have children.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | April 1, 2015 8:45 PM |
That girl isn't exactly a brain trust.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | April 1, 2015 8:45 PM |
"Bigotry can not be legislated out of existence."
I've seen this five times in the last day. This must be the new Fox News talking point.
For those of you saying "They didn't say they wouldn't serve gays, they said they wouldn't do a gay wedding," that is still discrimination. Non-discriminatory would be saying, "We do not do weddings." See the difference?
by Anonymous | reply 85 | April 1, 2015 8:46 PM |
LOL @ the difference between her Facebook pics and what she looks like IRL.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | April 1, 2015 8:49 PM |
If people don't want your money, don't give it to them. I can guarantee these religious shop owners need my money a whole fuck load more than I need their product.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | April 1, 2015 8:49 PM |
They removed their FB page. Shit's getting real now.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | April 1, 2015 8:52 PM |
FoxNews will now hold them up as martyrs of the faith.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | April 1, 2015 8:54 PM |
LOL, it's not that hypothetical, r59. If enough straights start having pizza weddings, gays'll want (nay, demand!) to have pizza weddings, too.
Just look at that classy ass shit at r58. That's the new barn wedding right there.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | April 1, 2015 9:04 PM |
I am tempted to fly out to Indiana, pretend I'm gay, and try to get served at one of these places.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | April 1, 2015 9:07 PM |
r91, you do know you wouldn't have a problem in 99% of businesses. Why waste your time?
by Anonymous | reply 92 | April 1, 2015 9:09 PM |
This is such a shit show. It's good to see the judgment of these guys coming into question. Terrible judgment and horrible leadership.
Was this guy just some loser off the street before being governor? He just comes off as an amateur. Can they recall him? Have they already started?
by Anonymous | reply 93 | April 1, 2015 9:15 PM |
I saw a comment in reply to Lisa Bloom's comment about this place and saw a reply that the place retracted and is now closed?
maybe I'm misunderstanding.

I'm a self loathing cunt and I eat shit.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | April 1, 2015 9:16 PM |
Don't fly out there or give that dreaded state one damn dime until they recall the pitiful governor and every single assembly member that signed it.
Give them a chance to clean house and bring in the professionals to legislate. Then you should visit.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | April 1, 2015 9:18 PM |
R31/R44/R60, who needs her cunt aerated.
Get the fuck out of here, you homophobic piece of shit.
by Anonymous | reply 97 | April 1, 2015 9:19 PM |
Indiana has actually got the bigoted hate-monger of a governor in North Carolina saying he is seriously thinking about not signing the we-hate-gays religion law that is sailing thru our legislature. He is afraid "it might damage North Carolina's brand". So, thanks for that Indiana bigots.
by Anonymous | reply 98 | April 1, 2015 9:24 PM |
I wrote them a lovely Yelp review and am getting emails from bat shit crazy xtians now.

Unlike R97 who has a death wish for herself, I sure don't want to do business with hate-mongers that are forced to do business with gay people. I just don't get the ignorance of people like R97 who are willing to spend their money to patronize those disgusting KKKristians, thus keeping them in business.
This place used to be filled with intelligent people. Now we've got fraus who want to support homophobic businesses and restaurants that could easily add a little rat poison to the tomato sauce.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | April 1, 2015 9:36 PM |
I'm scared now about how Fox News is going to use Memories Pizza as an example of a victim of the gay mafia or however they usually spin these things.
You just know that's going to be their angle here.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | April 1, 2015 9:40 PM |
R103, worry about yourself. Jesus christ on a fucking cracker you wanna-be-martyrs need help.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | April 1, 2015 9:45 PM |
It's a wonder they don't make the pizzas on a giant wafer and call it "Body of Christ" since they're so pious.
It's fucking pizza, woman! If you expect to stay in business, you don't pull this nonsense and expect people to not be disgusted by your stance.
by Anonymous | reply 105 | April 1, 2015 9:49 PM |
R104, fuck off.
I'm not a martyr. Just fast-forwarding to the inevitable Fox News spin on all this.
by Anonymous | reply 106 | April 1, 2015 9:51 PM |
For those people who are saying it's just about catering same-sex weddings, and that it's not that big a deal, consider this-- would you support a business that refused to cater an interracial marriage? A second marriage? A marriage where there's a great disparity in ages? Because it's a slippery slope.
by Anonymous | reply 107 | April 1, 2015 9:57 PM |
Which one of you bitches posted this Yelp review?
I'm poor white trash who likes to ride that pony, and i wanted to have a sloppy, cock-gobblin', leather daddy wedding on a poor white trash budget. What's a fanny bandit to do?!?
Well, after checking out all the local gas station/Subway sandwich shops and the various vending machine options, I decided on Memories Pizza to cater the big gay day. I thought the name was cute with an ironic twist...Memories... with all the roofies I was gonna put in the jungle juice, no one was gonna have a memory of the night or why their butthole was so sore the next day!!
So anyyyywayyyy... I walk in to the pizza joint greeted by what I thought was a very pleasant looking pig, but was actually a disgusting human woman, and told her my man D'Shwan was gonna make me the happiest sh'manbride this side of Judy Garland's pharmacist's house!! Well!! After she finished talking to some person named Lord for a few minutes, she looked directly through my soul, levitated off the ground, spewed green vomitus from her face anus and threw my body out of her fine establishment!!
Needless to say, I came immediately. I will be back tomorrow with D'Shwan and a couple of our "playdates". I only gave one star because the bathroom didn't have a buttspray attachment for quick douching attached to the toilet in the handicap stall...like every good Christian business SHOULD have.

r125, that's just ad hominem. Instead, I'd say it's not a valid analogy because one is a viewpoint, while the other represents a person's existence as he is.
To make it more obvious for conservatives, it's like the difference between someone asking you to make a cake for a black wedding vs asking you to make cake that says "kill whitey."

MIKE PENCE WALKS BACK STATE-RUN ‘NEWS’ SITE AS ‘MISUNDERSTANDING’
Indiana Gov. Mike Pence (R), a potential 2016 presidential candidate, is walking back Monday’s report in the Indianapolis Star that he is launching a taxpayer-funded, state-run “news” site.
On Tuesday, the Star reported that Pence said he is “clarifying” the nature of his site known as “Just IN,” and has referred to the report about it as an “understandable misunderstanding.”

People feel so smart and brave when they say that business should be able to serve who they want.
Most people believe that business should have that right in the abstract. It is not the novel, wise position that uneducated people think that it is. Idiots.
The glee and certainty that these fools express when taking that position tells me that they think they are so counter-culture.
And that is what they are going to make this argument about.
As long as that is the argument, gays lose. There is no way that progressives will win if they even entertain this argument.
The anger is coming from the fact that 1 man and 40 corrupt state politicians were bought and paid for by the evil church groups.
This is about corruption and pay offs to right wing groups. Keep it straight.

One of the reviews at the YELP link above:
Married my cousin (a girl, NATURALLY) last week and without hesitation, picked up the phone and begged Memories Pizza to cater the ceremony on short notice. Now let me tell you, there's a lot of cousin weddings here in the good, God fearing state of Indiana, and I knew that Memories catering would be in high demand. Despite this, the good people at Memories did not disappoint, assuring me that all my slack jawed guests would leave my weddin' with full stomachs and empty, closed minds. Would give it 6 stars but I can't count that high.

Yeah, I agree, good for Walmart. I still don't like the store though. The layout and vibe there is far below Target. And I wish I could say the same for the checkouts where I live. Long waits because they're understaffed. And they really don't live up to their low price reputation. Places like Aldi can be significantly cheaper without having to deal with the Duck Dynasty clientele.

Major corporations are speaking out against anti-gay discrimination.
The overwhelming majority of people under 30 oppose anti-gay legislation, including major Republican voices such as Meghan McCain.

Sorry, your business relies on public roads / public transportation to get your customer to your door. You get your water, gas, and electricity via public utilities. If you need police, fire, or an ambulance, you pick up the phone and call 911.
The tradeoff is that, when you open your doors to the public, you serve ALL the public. You make wedding cakes? You make cakes for ALL weddings. You do floral arrangements for weddings? You do floral arrangements for ALL weddings. You don't get to decide whom to serve and whom not to serve.

The problem isn't who they serve, although that is a whole issue itself. They said they would have no problem serving a pizza to a gay person, it is catering to a gay wedding they can't do.
So they are attaching 'reason' to the sale. You can buy our product if you use it this way, you cannot buy our product if you use it that way.
THAT is a whole other can of worms.

I kinda feel bad for the girl in a way. She said that they wouldn't cater a gay wedding but will sell to anyone. It just seems like it's small town bible folk. If it was a huge chain store it would be different but it's probably just a small business that supports their family. On the other hand, all this publicity will make them even more popular with bible folk and right wingers from miles around and they end up opening a chain of stores and become the next Chic Fil a. I bet that awful Sarah Palin decides to drop in a get photographed eating some good old holy pizza (I hope she chokes on it).

@R210, with all due respect, and I truly mean that, you must educate yourself on the issues. There's no need to feel sorry for this girl and her family. They are bigots period. Until they grow, learn, and change their ways, they will simply die off with their ignorance. Sure! they're collecting a lot of money now from other bigots too, but that support will soon go the way to the level of zero. Just ask George Zimmerman.
Now, Chick Fil-A. That was a winner for both sides. Yup! The company received massive exposure and record sales during that controversy, but it was something that the company really didn't want. In fact, the company was truly unaware of the "real" damage that it was doing to people, to those that it thought it was helping, and what it believes to be its corporate mission. It is directly because of that controversy that the company has changed its corporate practices and charitable giving.

R220, you do not need "the mark of the devil" to sell a pizza to a customer, if you are in the pizza selling business. If you don't want to sell pizzas, don't open a pizza restaurant, fill the place with pizzas, and put a sign out front saying pizzas are for sale.
"Christians" are responsible for their life choices too. Don't open a public business and then complain because the public goes in and wants to give you money. Stay at home in your mother's basement where it's safe.
Interesting that nobody noticed that this bill does nothing about pharmacists and doctors refusing to provide medicines and healthcare for women that need birth control and abortions. Womens' rights are always put aside, when everyone else's are attended to.

Well, what's odd about this GoFundMe ai that as of this morning it was a bit short of $50K, or maybe just a little more. This is FOX and the conservative machine. I'm sure calls are being made in order to help create a story. Dana Loesch is encouraging people to make comments on her FaceBook page etc.
So, you see where the Conservatives want to run with this and try to promote this. A lot of that money HAS to be coming from 5013c sources such as The Heritage Fund; AFI; and some others. The jump was too traumatic, and it makes sense...
Mike Pence has put all of the RFRA legislation across the nation in jeopardy when he refused to answer the simple question: "Should it be illegal to discriminate against gays and lesbians, yes or no?" When he didn't answer... we knew what this was about. Asa Hutchinson pulled back and EVEN TEXAS pulled back.
This GoFundMe is nothing more than stunts and mirrors now. Good for the family though! God does provide!!!

When you phrase it like that, I don't agree, but this does bring up an interesting point that should be clarified. Suppose I own a restaurant, and one day, someone comes in whom I loathe because of his political beliefs in general, or because I strongly disagree with one of his ideas in particular -- maybe he's been very vocal against gay marriage, or maybe he has campaigned for Social Security to be eliminated, or whatever. I'm pretty sure I would be within my rights to refuse to serve him under those circumstances, as long as I wasn't stupid enough to say something like, "I refuse to serve you because you're a Republican!"
Correct?

r262 ITA, people open a business to try and make money, so by refusing service it's their loss. A person male or female may come into the business and the male/female reminds the male/female owners of someone their partner had an affair with, shot a relative, just anything. I don't think a person should have to give a reason for denial of service.

"Basically, if you're operating on your own, you have lots of freedom to discriminate. But when you are in business - taking advantage of all the protections and powers granted by the state - you lose those protections. You may have your own beliefs. But the public square operates under the law and you have to follow it. And taking advantage of the protections afforded to people in public commerce puts you and your actions in the public square."

r262, that's my understanding as well.
While it's OK for a business to refuse service to an individual for a specific reason, a business can't refuse service to a class of people if they're a protected class (i.e., race, gender, creed, etc.).
Simply put, I can refuse service to you but not to "your kind."

by Anonymous | reply 281 | April 2, 2015 9:40 PM |
This law was drastically more far reaching, including corporations, businesses and other non human entities as "people" allowed to discriminate against human beings. In other words, a business, landlord, hospital, school or your employer, discriminates against you and you have no recourse. Wal-Mart could basically say "our corporation is a "religious person" that is offended by your morals" and refuse to serve or hire or rent to you. No legal remedies like lawsuits available.
The original law was more about individual humans to individuals. Like, "I'm against birth control so I won't fill your prescription." Not great either, but not this bad.
by Anonymous | reply 282 | April 2, 2015 9:48 PM |
The federal law only protected individuals from discrimination by the government in their religious practices. The Indiana law goes further, involving actions by private citizens.

it's not taxable. gifts are taxable to the donor, not the donee. (and it is also not considered 'income' under the law since it was not contingent upon any exchange of goods or services).
by Anonymous | reply 292 | April 2, 2015 10:18 PM |
R292 that's what I was thinking too, but why are gofundme and kickstarter taxable? Do people get something in exchange for their donation?
by Anonymous | reply 293 | April 2, 2015 10:28 PM |
but why are gofundme and kickstarter taxable?
it's probably less than 100% clear that the funds [italic]are[/italic] taxable. i'm guessing it's still a fuzzy space. the theory would be that in raising funds on kickstarter, you are engaging in business activity, and therefore the income accruing to that activity is taxable income.
in this pizza case, none of that applies. they didn't ask for the money. they are not offering anything in return for receipt of the money. it is not activity in the course of operating their business. there is absolutely no question at all that not one penny of this will be taxable.
by Anonymous | reply 294 | April 2, 2015 10:40 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 300 | April 2, 2015 11:01 PM |

The page was set up by a producer of BlazeTV (Glenn Beck)...and its being trumpeted throughout their programming and on Fox News. If it wasnt for that, they wouldnt have nearly that much raised. The WA florist (ms. Baronelle) has a page also that was set up by her attorneys over a month ago and has 30k.
by Anonymous | reply 355 | April 3, 2015 7:32 PM |
Theyre operating like televangelists...look how much money they raise and nobody questions it.
They keep saying we drove them out of business and have taken everything they own (the WA florist...whios fine was only 1k...and legal fees), but how many times have you heard over the years of the elderly donating ALL their money to people like Jim Baker, Jerry Falwell, etc. Joel osteen raises almost 1m PER DAY....where does it go ?
Can someone fake donate 500k to get their hopes up?
NO! I believe with GoFundMe, like Indiegogo, the funds are withdrawn immediately from your account--that is why it is so scam ridden. KickStarter holds the funds in escrow until you meet your goal, and if you do, the funds are then drawn and released. If you don't meet your goal then the funds are never drawn. That's why, as far as we know, all of this money is going into the account of Lawrence Billy Jones III.
GoFundMe immediately deducts 5% from every donation. So thus far, they have made a little over $37K (based on $750K)
They, (Lawrence Billy Jones III), has stopped the ability to post comments. That might be smart because you don't attract the trolls. However, the drawback is that you can't ask legitimate questions about this money. Keep in mind their goal was to raise only $50K
Do people in the United States recall the killing of the "Road rage mom" in Las Vegas? "Someone", (supposedly a friend of the family), stared a GoFundMe minutes after the woman had died. If you followed the story the events turned dramatically from what was initially reported. However, the person stupidly still alowed comments. As the story unfolded it became viscous with GoFundMe shutting the campaign down. BUT, I believe that a little over $20K had already been collected and was in the hands of the fund starter. GoFundMe left the responsibility of the returning of that money to the fund starter. Was it all ever returned?
We'll see if the family gets all of this money. There is NO WAY, (just going by my gut), that some religious organization, "The Blaze" or even Lawrence Billy Jones III, is going to let the family walk with this type of money scott free. But then again, anything is possible...
by Anonymous | reply 357 | April 3, 2015 7:41 PM |
So if Mr. Dumbshit Glenn Beck Producer gets a million bucks and just gifts it all, does he have to pay taxes on that or not?
If he just keeps it, it's definitely taxable.
by Anonymous | reply 358 | April 3, 2015 7:45 PM |
Beck and cronies are trying to create a story here R356. You can already see the angle that they are trying to use. Pretty soon the REAL media will have to pick up this story. But who knows who will be paid what and what that payment will require them to do.
Can the family get all of the money? Sure! I believe the bullied bus driver lady did--$600K. But, I simply don't feel that this will be the case here.
by Anonymous | reply 359 | April 3, 2015 7:48 PM |
It's funny watching everyone attribute this windfall of money to God on The Dana Show's FB page. "God is good!" they say, ignoring the fact that not a penny of that money came from God--and also ignoring the fact that God has NOT been kind to Indiana's economy over the past few weeks. Religious loons truly only see what they want to see.
by Anonymous | reply 360 | April 3, 2015 7:51 PM |

Absolutely not R361. Campaigns usually have a 30 day window. In fact, that changed on that page. Initially it was for $50k, but then they lowered it to $25K in order to make the story better. Take a breath and just think about how the conservative media is looking to angle and spin this story.

HA!!!! NOW this makes sense! the reason why the bank account that the money is being deposited to is for Lawrence Billy Jones III, ("The Blaze" contributer), and not to the O'Connors. The bank account is "The Blaze"! Dana Loesch reported; "We set up a GoFundMe" page for you..."
There is no intention to give these people all of that money. The family will probably get no more than the $200K... which will still be a boon for them.

How do you know? That money is NOT being deposited into the O'Connor's account. Just because Jones says that "the Blaze" and the "Dana Loesch" show is not keeping any of the money (which probably is true), who said that another third party, (where the money is being deposited), isn't?

How would anyone know if no one talked? Trust me. GoFundMe does not have the resources to check campaigns like that. All they care about is their fee percentage.
You can have a whole ceremony and everything, and just void the check, or replace the check once the cameras are gone. These people are not going to receive that money. They'll get the $200K--if that.

I honestly wouldnt be surprised if the staff at BlazeTV and their ilk are donating over and over again with the understanding the money will be returned to them. The florist from WA was an old woman and kept crying poverty and has had a page for over a month and only raised 30k...and she was all over the news, internet, etc....she came across as more sympathetic than these yahoos, yet its just pouring in for them. I totally agree that something doesnt smell right here. Couple that with the fact that they were interviewed AFTER the backlash against Indiana started. EXACTLY!!!
Also, take the fact that NO ONE in the real media saving "The Washington Times" which leans very heavily conservative have not touched this. You're only seeing the conservative entertainment media and the conservative blogs run with this. It's a scam. The O'Connors will receive some money alright, but not this.

The problem here with the fraud link. Which says:
What is considered fraud on GoFundMe:
A campaign organizer may be committing fraud if:
They are intentionally including factually incorrect information on their campaign.
They have not used the funds that were raised for the stated purpose within a reasonable amount of time.
They are impersonating someone else or have copied a campaign that already exists on GoFundMe.
All of that can be easily answered or hidden. It would be difficult to prove.

by Anonymous | reply 397 | April 3, 2015 10:39 PM |
R395: it says right on their page the intent is to help them with the financial loss while they were closed. I would imagine that the pizza place would have to try to reopen at some point, not retire.
also, I would imagine that the O'Connors would have to show the financial loss dollar figure they endured for the time they were closed. ie if they would have made $10,000 in a week, then that is all they should get.
and now Crystal is saying they may not be able to retire. Did she say that after she saw all the money coming in?
maybe she should have said: doesn't have to open instead of can't reopen
that sounds like fraud.

by Anonymous | reply 434 | April 4, 2015 3:31 AM |
R429, the reason many gay people have no respect for ChrIstianity is because many gays come from "Christian" families and were thrown away by their parents at a young age, as soon as the parents found out their children were gay, because "Christianity" teaches parents to hate their own children if they're gay. These parents self-righteously threw away teens, often with nothing but the clothes on their backs, and left them to fend for themselves. Many of these teens were then forced into homelessness, prostitution, or if they were really lucky, moved in with other, non-Christian friends or relatives.
Other parents whose children didn't come out until adulthood, simply threw their children out of the house and never spoke to them again. Still others refuse to acknowledge their child's life partner, even after many years of companionship. Still others have gone to the home shared by the partner after their child's death, stolen the home and most of the commonly owned possessions, thrown the grief stricken partner in the street, robbed them of assets they jointly spent a lifetime to build, and denied him or her the right to go to their own loved one's funeral, or say goodbye on their deathbed. Many "Christians" believe the true meaning of Christianity is to use their faith to justify abusive, cruel behavior to others on the sole basis that the other person is gay.
You should come her around Christmas. The amount of gay people that are rejected by their parents and in-laws, spending their holidays alone, due solely to "Christian" bigotry and hatred, would break your heart if you had any compassion. But blaming gays for refusing to participate in their own persecution shows you have none.
People like you are why I longer consider myself to be a Christian. I would be ashamed to have people think I believed I had a right to hate people that never harmed me, because that's what "Christianity" stands for now, thanks to people like you.

I'm sick of people acting like gay people shouldn't be open about their sexuality. We're "forcing ourselves upon you", yet us gay people are constantly seeing straight couples everywhere, and we don't make a peep. It's sickening.
There's outrage everytime a gay person is on TV, and I'm sick of hearing straight people trying to tell us what to do.
I have heard disgusting comments from people saying that out gay personalities should go back in the closet. If you think about it, there are really not that many. I don't get why they don't get that gay people should have people to look up to as well. They sound like selfish pricks who want everyone to go by their standards.
This has got to be the most delusional shit I've ever heard, but I've also heard tons of people say that there are "too many gays on TV". WTF? Are we fucking watching the same thing? There really aren't that many, and we're really not that represented. But they see a gay couple kiss on TV and squirm and complain. I see straight couples kissing on TV a billion times more, and I haven't complained once.
I agree death threats are bad, and I don't condone them. But for these Christians to call out people pushing a "gay agenda" sending out death threats, yet don't acknowledge your own Christians sending death threats to the gay community, or even our own PRESIDENT. It's fucking ridiculous. I hate the world we live in.
by Anonymous | reply 454 | April 4, 2015 2:05 PM |
r454, exactly. I saw a straight couple holding hands while grocery shopping. Then on the way out, I saw them holdings hands at the U-scan, and then leaving the store. Not one person commented on them. Not one person seem to care.

by Anonymous | reply 456 | April 4, 2015 2:11 PM |
That's correct R397. You're charged immediately, or the cash is withdrawn from your account immediately.
BUT! Something has happened.... Just more indications that this was manipulated....
The GoFundMe has stopped taking donations.
I surmise that GoFundMe was getting a lot of requests to investigate this fraud. Why else close a 30 day campaign? Surely the fund starter wouldn't have an issue if the victims were able to collect $1 million or even $2 million! This is a first for me. I've never seen a crowd funding campaign close early.

Christians are afraid to get a taste of the medicine they've been dispensing for centuries. They fear that gays and blacks and others will treat them as they have treated us. That's why they're so eager to pass laws "protecting" themselves against threats that simply do not exist. Guilt.
by Anonymous | reply 458 | April 4, 2015 3:50 PM |
Yet, r441, you sit on your computer spewing your sleazy opinions during 'Holy Week', exemplifying the hypocrisy and delusion of the wing-nut Christian.
Btw, Fascism is what the Christians are pulling, not the oppressed gays. You might want to do some studying on what that all means.
by Anonymous | reply 459 | April 4, 2015 3:55 PM |
Boycotts are okay, but it's how you protest that matters. Those postings on Yelp are vile and vulgar and cast gay rights advocates as filled with rage, immature, vulgar, hateful, petty, blasphemous, and anti Christian. The death threats and vandalism threats made it even worse. Why the need to protest with vulgarity and threats; it hurts the cause.

Well shouldn't you be enraged? Yup! Some of those postings on Yelp were over the top, but they will be taken care of. What you should concern yourself with R460, in my opinion, is why you so seek the approval of people who want to trample you and deny you the basic rights that they enjoy.

I disagree. It sent a LOUD and clear message to other business owners--especially watching what happened in Indiana! Other States that were about to pass the same legislation have backed down. Don't let that GoFundMe campaign fool you.
by Anonymous | reply 464 | April 4, 2015 4:19 PM |
R464, you realize this pizza joint is in the middle of nowhere, right? A boycott wouldn't do shit to them, since no one was going there to begin with.
by Anonymous | reply 465 | April 4, 2015 4:21 PM |
The pizza joint closed down R465. They will reopen but how much business do you believe they will receive in the the coming months or years? How many people will continue to post on Yelp about this bigoted place long after the cameras have moved on?
by Anonymous | reply 466 | April 4, 2015 4:26 PM |
I'm not sure we have the same idea of what a boycott is, R466.

I know the simple switching of 2 letters can make a difference sometimes, and r441's "intolerACne" did it for me. I am laughing' my balls off.
INTOLERACNE: a relatively new disease, that spreads rapidly, and rightly and most assuredly disfigures the disseminator. And tells more about them than they realize.

While the money will be helpful to them (presuming the campaign is legit), nobody's really going to be interested in hearing from them once this has run its course. What do they really have to say that people will be willing to pay to hear even by next year?
by Anonymous | reply 475 | April 4, 2015 5:18 PM |
The same conservative assholes who are throwing reward money at the pizza shop for discriminating against gays are fighting tooth-and-nail nationwide to keep the minimum wage at starvation level.
Their indifference to the well-being of the working poor is positively un-Christian.

Since when did making pizza for people have anything to do with the customer's sexual preference? The joint SELLS PIZZA. People go there to BUY PIZZA. What business is it of theirs to know about what their customers do with their genitalia in bed? Again: PIZZA. What do they do, ask customers to tell them about their sex lives when they go there? WTF? Shut that fucken place down.

by Anonymous | reply 482 | April 4, 2015 6:35 PM |
Those dum dums at Memories Pizza doesn't seem to realize they're selling pizza. Their pizza has probably been eaten by rapists, killers and child molesters as well as all kinds of swingers and sex deviants. I'm sure Indiana is the place where people have sex with animals.
What do they plan to do, ask everyone who's ordering pizza what events they're planning?
They may be richer now because of the scam they pulled but I don't think they're the brightest of bulbs. I expect that money not to last very long and they skulk back to nowhereville in no time.

R487, did you read that on a bumper sticker?
by Anonymous | reply 489 | April 4, 2015 8:57 PM |
R477, go back and read.
The issue isn't that a pizza place cared about people's sex lives, they are taking a stand against gay marriage by saying they 'wouldn't cater a gay wedding' but that gay people were still welcome in their pizza place.
Part of the problem here is that both sides aren't seeing the nuance here.
All that said, I think this particular firestorm was going to happen one way or another, and we will come out on top of it as always. We keep winning more battles than we are losing.
But I think people should read everything on a topic before grandstanding.

by Anonymous | reply 492 | April 4, 2015 9:09 PM |
R490, it has been wrongly reported that they said they would not serve gays. They did not. They said they will not service a gay wedding because it is contrary to Christianity/the Bible and they view assisting in this act as a sin. It is not the same as denying service to gays; it is refusing to service gay weddings.

by Anonymous | reply 495 | April 4, 2015 9:16 PM |
Not true R493 and you know it. They will indeed refuse service to anyone they think are gay, which was in fact their stated intention. You are a mindless fool who is okay with business owners who won't serve blacks. Why? Because your libertarian idiocy demands it. You have no idea how our world work and your views on moral issues are unethical and ignorant.
by Anonymous | reply 496 | April 4, 2015 9:22 PM |
R496, cite the source of their purported stated intention? The stories I have seen have quoted them as saying the exact opposite.
by Anonymous | reply 497 | April 4, 2015 9:44 PM |
R490 is all about the NUANCE of bigotry. Did you know fool at R490 that back in the day, bigot were AOK with black people as long as they kept to their side of the street and used separate water fountains and didn't get with their white women.
I"m guessing R490 back in the day, you would have found that acceptable as you're all about the nuance of bigotry. The bowing and scraping you're doing for this set of Pizza bigots is just embarrassing for you.
Of course YOU're not going to grandstand. Other 'grandstanding' gays like George Takai make you look like the sniveling cowardly fool that you are.
by Anonymous | reply 498 | April 4, 2015 9:44 PM |
That money will probably be a curse to them like it is to many lottery winners. It's a poor community and they probably know everyone who lives within a 50 mile radius. Everyone will come out of the woodwork to try and "borrow" money from them.
Giving a large sum of money to someone who has never had money is not always a good idea.
Fox has reported that they will provide a "free" financial planner for them. I hope the "free" FA is from Edward Jones, they'll help themselves to a big piece of the pie via expense ratios, 12b-1 fees and front end loads.
by Anonymous | reply 499 | April 4, 2015 9:53 PM |
R498, I'm not defending these bigots in the slightest...just holding to them what they EXACTLY said, not what is being made of it.
That's the nuance you will never get, because you can only be angry.
The fact that you can't read my post with any sense of nuance shows just how correct I am.

by Anonymous | reply 503 | April 4, 2015 10:25 PM |
R501, it takes all kinds to make a movement, the angry folks and the reasoned folks. I tend to fall on the latter side.
The thing is, if you're gonna be the angry sort, go for it, but you better be damn ACCURATE and actually read up before you 'call the bigots out on their shit'...and know what brand of shit it actually is.
To bang cymbals saying that this pizza place actually refused service (like in the wedding cake situation) is a distortion. They didn't refuse any service. They made a really stupid remark, goaded by a reporter looking for fame, and showed their ignorance and bigotry, and are certainly worthy of public attention and some eloquent fags getting up in there and calling it out, and there have been a few out there doing that. But the queens who are resorting to death threats and vile names while also exaggerating what was said are the worst kind of 'activists' out there.
If you aren't accurate in your anger, honeys, you are no better than Faux News...and that goes for dozens of posts on this thread.

I didn't feel this story warranted a new thread so I am bumping this old one. That Indiana Pizza shop that went out of its way to say that it wouldn't cater a marriage between two gay people has closed. Of course the $800,000 that a go fund me account raised for them probably has more to do with it than a drop off of business, but at least they are out of business.
