Isn't this the scene Goldie Hawn watches back like a million times in Death Becomes Her? Or am I getting it confused?

by Anonymousreply 1March 30, 2015 2:07 PM

This is the film where Pauline Kael wrote that the most exciting thing Streep does in it is to change the part in her hair.

by Anonymousreply 2March 30, 2015 2:14 PM

Her worst film? But there are so very many to choose from!

by Anonymousreply 3March 30, 2015 2:16 PM

Bitch totally screwed my film, August:Osage county.

by Anonymousreply 4March 30, 2015 2:19 PM

Haha, love how Meryl is able to catch her with one arm without going over herself. Such a tired trope.

by Anonymousreply 5March 30, 2015 2:26 PM

But I love this movie. I love slow atmospheric movies. When did she say it's the worst one she has ever made?

Sara Botsford would later play Duncan psychotic ex-wife Lilith on As The World Turns.

She killed his current wife Shannon and showed Duncan her shrunken head.

by Anonymousreply 7March 30, 2015 2:29 PM

When she was making it, it was known as Stab!

by Anonymousreply 8March 30, 2015 2:32 PM

R6 fresh off of Kramer Vs Kramer that director Robert Benton asked her to consider his latest project, a film noir where she would play the Femme fatale

without even reading the script, Meryl signed on the dotted line. After Kramer v Kramer, what could go wrong?

btw the original title of the film was STAB

Flash forward 30 years

Andy Cohen asked to name one bad film she made, Streep replied Still Of The Night.

Oh my wee lassie!

by Anonymousreply 10March 30, 2015 2:35 PM

Not Mamma Mia? Not that lifestyle commercial dreck with Steve Martin? Not that idiotic rafting suspenseria with Kevin Bacon?

by Anonymousreply 11March 30, 2015 2:37 PM

What about Hope Springs?

by Anonymousreply 12March 30, 2015 2:49 PM

R9 STILL OF THE NIGHT WAS 1982, same year as SOPHIE'S CHOICE; KRAMER VS. KRAMER was 1979; in between she did THE FRENCH LIEUTENANT'S WOMAN.

by Anonymousreply 13March 30, 2015 2:58 PM

[quote] STILL OF THE NIGHT WAS 1982,

Yes but it was plagued by problems as it was held back from release, while it was re-edited and scenes re-shot. But to no avail.

by Anonymousreply 14March 30, 2015 3:07 PM

WOW

by Anonymousreply 15March 30, 2015 6:47 PM

Sara Botsford did a totally unbelievable TV series where two men were fighting for her affections.

by Anonymousreply 16March 30, 2015 6:51 PM

Roy Scheider was supposedly impossible to work with.

by Anonymousreply 17March 30, 2015 6:56 PM

M doesn't play a femme fatale in the film. Maybe she did originally, but not after the reshoots.

by Anonymousreply 18March 31, 2015 9:48 AM

Didn't Jessica Tandy play Meryl's mother?

by Anonymousreply 19March 31, 2015 9:57 AM

If Gone Girl was released in 1982, Meryl would have been interesting in that role NON?

by Anonymousreply 20March 31, 2015 10:38 AM

R19 - No, Jessica T was Roy's mother.

by Anonymousreply 21March 31, 2015 2:32 PM

shocking!

by Anonymousreply 22July 11, 2020 8:30 PM

It's one of those non-thrilling thrillers that's clearly made by someone who had no idea how movies like this work.

by Anonymousreply 23July 11, 2020 8:49 PM

DId she forget "One True Thing?"
