Zendaya - Pretentious Cunt Extraordinaire
Zendaya has forgiven Giuliana Rancic after she issued an apology earlier this week after commenting about her 2015 Oscars hairstyle.
Here’s what the 18-year-old actress wrote on Instagram:
[quote]Studies have shown that even though we try to act without prejudice, sometimes it’s just hidden inside us due to our past or surrounding. That hidden prejudice is often influential in our actions. it’s our job to spot these issues within others and ourselves and destroy them before they become hurtful. I have so many people looking up to me, that I couldn’t be scared, wait it out, nor could I just stand up for me; I had to do it for WE. It is in important in this journey, to remember that just because someone has inflicted hurt upon us, it does not give us the right to do the same.
[quote]Body shaming and other hurtful tactics will never get the job done. As hard as it was to stop MYSELF from being ignorant and from posting the first mean words that came to my mind because I was hurt, I had to think about the bigger picture. Instead, I sat for two hours on my phone, doing my research and formulating an educated response.
[quote]Giuliana, I appreciate your apology and I’m glad it was a learning experience for you and for the network. I hope thatothers negatively affected by her words can also find it in their hearts to accept her apology as well. From a quote we all know by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., "Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out have; only love can do that.’ Let’s be that light and spread that love.”
-
All this because someone associated her fugly dreadlocks with patchouli and weed.

Nice try, OP, but Zendaya Coleman handled a difficult situation with a poise beyond her years.
What you have failed to realize is that the aspersions cast by that Ghouliana goomba and her ilk were trading on the same old tired tropes of euro-centric "beauty."
They picked the wrong target, as Zendaya looks to have a promising career with Disney.
The irony that the criticism came from a 40 year old woman who is literally starving herself to death on television--in order to conform to some unattainable standard--is rich indeed.

Zendaya should be kissing Guiliana Rancic's bony ass. No one even knew who she was before Monday. Seriously, no one.

So, just shut up, Zenga.

#1 - not a fan of Zendaya (don't dislike her either) but even I knew who she was. She is a Disney star, she was on Dancing with the Stars and almost won, she has a huge following - so while certain parts of the population don't know who she is, just as many (if not more) do know who she is. Don't be so dismissive of people just because they aren't on your personal radar.
#2 - I do think she overreacted, but I also don't walk in her shoes and don't have her experiences in life.
#3 - The comments about Zandaya's hair are questionable since someone else with the same (or very similar) style was praised for her edginess, while Zendaya was criticized.
#4 - when you have a show that is really all about finding fault in others appearance and style, you are going to step in it, over it, and across the line sometimes. Apologize or not, but not everyone has to play along with the adult version of mean girl games on the playground.

in typical racist white kween DL fashion, some of you are attacking Zendaya? She replied with maturity.
and in further typical racist OLD white kween DL fashion, Zendaya is a "nobody" because you old pieces of shit haven't heard of her? Well you're old and irrelevant. She's very popular with young people, you know, people who don't rely on viagra and who don't live in nursing homes.
If she were a white male celeb you would all be lusting over her and singing her praises in your corny, show tuney way.
Fuck off.

The other person who wasn't criticized for their dreds was white.
I think Rancic was trying to say that the hairstyle was too heavy on a small girl and weighed her down. But she then meandered into racist territory by imagining what it would smell like.

I knew who Zendaya was because she won DWTS. I know she has a lot of fans from her Disney background.
I don't have a problem with how Zendaya has handled this at all. Bravo to her.
Should Rancic be crucified for her comments ? No. She apologized. Zendaya accepted. Let this go.
The most pressing issue is Rancic's health. There's thin and then there's deathly emaciated.
Rancic looks exactly like Karen Carpenter did in the end.
Her husband, friends and employer need to do an intervention to get her into an inpatient setting for anorexia.
And before you start, I am as gay as they come.

This beautiful young woman graciously accepted an apology after someone went on national television and insulted her in a nasty and unnecessary manner.
I loved her explanation, I loved her response. She sounds like a very intelligent, sensitive, thoughtful person.
She could have played the victim here but chose to take the high road. Very impressive for an 18 year-old. She handled this situation beautifully.

They meant it in a racial way. I posted on the other thread about this. Solange Knowles was compared to looking like a dog or a homeless person when she wore her hair natural. Anything beyond the length and look of Lupita's natural hair seems to set certain folks on edge. I watched that episode of Fashion Police and cringed. Unlike the 60's there's a whole generation out there who are thoroughly accustomed to seeing Black women with processed hair and flip at the sight of natural hair beyond a certain length.

If Giuliana wants to keep it classy, she needs to have Zendaya on the show and apologize to her face. Follow that up by apologizing to all black women everywhere for being so stereotypical and admit that she does not condone racism. E! network should also be required to have a hour prime time special educating others about black women's hair and the history behind it.

People died unjustly and were imprisoned without cause during the civil rights movement. The words she quoted were for them, those words were for for all fighting for equality, those words had real meaning.
It is because of the civil rights movement that her fashion choices are criticized as any white woman's are. Deal with it, Princess.

Zendaya is a pretentious cunt. The comments about her, if said by Joan Rivers, would have been instantly forgotten. Why couldn't the stupid cunt say something EMPOWERING like "Sorry, no patchouli or pot for me. Strictly Chanel #5 and vapor ciggies." Something with a bit of wit or charm that showed the silly comments rolled off her back. Her fucking righteous indignation is getting her some PRESS, that's why. You know that she LOVES LOVES LOVES that ANYONE said anything about her! She is thrilled for these comments and her chance to fein being insulted. Tweet time. Media exposure. And she gets to play victim! Score!
And yeah, she's only 18 but she could have ASKED someone what to say. You know, for "image." Her hair (dreadlocks) DO look like they stink. Facts are facts. And what the hell is racist about referencing that someone's hair reminds one of Rastaferian culture? What the hell is insulting about smelling like patchouli and weed? Is it inferring that one is inferior in some way because he smells of pot or patchouli? No one has a sense of humor anymore. Everyone is too thin skinned. This year's Oscars were the who's who of the c-list, R99. Zelda will fade back into tween obscurity once she shows she will never be anything more than marginally talented or she turns 25, whichever comes first. Many have come before her and have taken the same path.
Until then she will manufacture controversy to stay relevant. And, even that will get old.
Racist is quickly becoming a very overused word and is in danger of losing its meaning.

R104, racism, like dreadlocks, is no longer unique to any one race. It's called cultural appropriation.
Racism has been appropriated and is no longer an exclusively white thing.
Like it or not, dreadlocks were appropriated by whites decades ago and are no longer an African American thing.
Catch-up with life, you seem awfully behind the times and one might mistake your outdated way of thinking for actual racism.

Rancic fucked up. The girl did look ridiculous with that over the top weave/wig whatever the hell it was. And Rancic could have criticized the look in any number of ways without going "there." But she went there and she needed to apologize.
So she did. And Zendaya accepted the apology.
But by all means, let's harp on this over and over again. Don't focus on, say, Comcast discriminating against blacks-- having white people continue their stranglehold on the media. Because the hairstyle of a "Disney star" (an oxymoron if there ever was one) is really the most important thing in race relations happening right now.
This is really what being a "social justice warrior" is all about. Ignoring the forest because of that desperately important tree.

R113, But it was Zelda who chose to make this superficial. She could have brought up inequality in the media as an important issue that needs to be addressed.
Instead she chose to attack a show that attacks fashionistas of all colors.
Worse, she turned it into a self serving issue... I am wearing fauxlocs so people of color can be proud of their hair. And then was hardly gracious in accepting an apology that was not needed nor should have been given.
She quoted MLK as if her weave was asked to sit at the back of the bus. The reality is...Rancid was as mean to her as she is to any white person. You witnessed racial equality.

What I'm shocked by is that Kelly Osbourne completely went off, turned on Guiliana and threatened to quit Fashion Police. This is beyond overreacting.
Whatever we may think of Kelly and Guiliana individually, they are colleagues, and Kelly totally overreacted. Jesus, give your colleague and co-worker a break. Osbourne didn't need to turn on Rancic so harshly over a stupid joke comment that was by no means racist.
Osbourne and Rancic have worked together for several years now. From the way they interact on the show, you would think that they're at least friendly with each other. Why would someone get so angry and mean toward friendly co-worker over a lame joke? What's wrong with Osbourne having a bit of compassion? Why would she blow something rather minor out of proportion?
And even if it were racist, the punishment needs to fit the crime. And this "punishment" has gone way overboard. By the way, Rancic should not have apologized over something so trivial.

Zendaya is like Selena Gomez, a former child star entering the difficult young adult years where careers can fade away. Witness Miley Cyrus desperately changing her image with the use of extended tongue and awkward twerks, a means to stay relevant.
Will Zendaya have a career in five years? Who knows. Short, baby-faced young women often don't transition well into adulthood stars. Sally Field types are rare and it took her a very long time to be taken seriously.
IMO, it was not a race issue, it was a "look at me" moment, a bid to be taken seriously. I saw the show, my first thoughts were not of race but "she's being compared to a hippie."
Then, the new male host made a remark like "what does Zendaya do anyway?" That probably hurt more than the hair remarks.

Putting aside this stupid argument between these two Hollywood goofs, we get to read about how "all whites are racists" and "how blacks and their supporters take offense" and that "they don't fit in" and should just leave the country... Fucking ridiculous. Does every white person act the same way? Every black? Every Hispanic? Every man? Every woman? Every gay? Every straight?
If you morons can't see that YOU are the problem, and that as long as you harbor these prejudiced attitudes, NOTHING WILL CHANGE, then you are completely, hopelessly beyond help.
Go ahead and keep playing your victim roles. It will make you far more miserable than anyone else could ever make you.

How does that make a fro or locs or braid extensions any less ethnic because theyre worn temporarily?

R171, that's your opinion and I don't don't share it. She needs to grow the fuck up. A joke was made about her fauxlocs and quoting MLK was way out of line. There is enough real racism in this world and manufactured controversies dilute the real issues. FYI... Most of the criticism on Fashion Police is directed toward white women.
Just because Jenner got a pass on wearing fauxlocs under different circumstances doesn't make anything racist. Zelda was criticized just like any white woman. The only difference is it used to be Joan Rivers delivering the lines...so now it was Rancid. Big. Fucking. Deal.

Lea Michele: “She looks like a porn star. You know the kind of porn stars who aren’t the prettiest, so they do crazy stuff like amputee gang bangs?”
Rihanna: Why the green lips?, It looks like she just [bleep] the Grinch. Talk about Christmas coming early.”
Pamela Anderson: “It looks like the trailer park exploded and they landed at the Grammys.”
Beyonce: “I hate this so much. It reminds me of ‘The Real Housewives of Atlanta.’ Mostly black with that one annoying white thing.”
Heidi Klum: "The last time a German looked this hot was when they were pushing Jews into the ovens.
And Princess Zelda quoted MLK because her fauxlocs make her look like she smells like patchouli and weed. She's luckly she didn't say she looked like Axl Rose in a dress. Snort. A diva needs the talent to back up the attitude.

Please enlighten us all on what Giuliani Rancic has accomplished that would make her an expert on ANYTHING, let alone critiquing fashion? Joan Rivers was at least a groundbreaking standup comedienne and talk show host for fifty years.
When the shows executive producer tweets a message of sympathy to Zendaya while snubbing the white bobblehead completely, then it should be a clue that you're fighting a lost cause. Zendaya won and you lost.

And yes, Giuliana is morbidly anorexic and shouldn't really be talking shit about anyone's looks, but it's labeled as a comedy show, it's not supposed to be taken seriously.
It really was a joke and you can not be racist and even be attracted to black people but still think dreads are gross because of the cleanliness issue.

R183, Kelly was a shrieking harpy whose illiterate tweets were hysterical, and not the funny haha hysterical.
When it was first brought to her attention she had no fucking clue anybody was pissed. Her tweets were like all...waaa. I don't know what's going on. Duhhhh.
She then became the ultimate backstabber when people thought she made the comment. FYI...Rancid didn't make the comment, she agreed with someone off camera who said it. So the actual comment was either made by the Hamburgler or Grifith. So direct your fauxrage appropriately.
The Hamburgerler is less qualified than Rancid to judge fashion. She's a fat twat whose tats look like morbid lividity. And she never has an opinion other than to say, "I'm obsessed with that dress." She could be replace by a robot and nobody would notice.
What made Joan qualified to judge fashion other than the major plastic surgery and her humor? Her fashion line came later. It's all just opinion. Rancid's opinion is just as valid as the chunky shrieking harpy with ugly tats and no opinion.
At least Rancid tries. The twat just sits there giggling and pointing fingers.

R186, it was said earlier it was scripted. So really, Rancid was the only one who handled it with grace. FUCK Y'ALL.
Zelda is looking for a gig and there's nobody at the View to fuck and suck anymore. And Kelly is a huge TWAT.

I'm not a dreadlocks expert, but don't you have to not wash your hair for months and put oils in it to the point you are basically fermenting it?
And Bob Marley, isn't he the one who most associated with dreads and is very open about his marijuana use and sings about it?
I don't even get the racist connection. White people potheads with dreads probably smell, too.

Some members of the AA community (I know, it wasn't everyone, blacks are not monolithic) came down on Zendaya hard saying she was not black enough to play Aliyah or Storm because she is only half black and light skinned so maybe this was her way trying to get more cred with those people?

Your math is based on fiction. You are saying that ALL men work more hours and ALL women less and that ALL these men get more work done by working these extra hours...that is far from always true. Corporations, that have people with brains running them, pay you for the end results on a project ...no matter the time spent. A lot of men have to work extra hours because they are not as efficient and organized as their female counterparts.

Most of the people I've known with dreads are white hippies and very few of the black people I know have worn dreads. There was a girl at my college who died hers green, she was referred to as moldy locks. There was a What not to Wear episode where they cut of a white lady's dreads and all this dust came out of her hair. An old 60s era hippy family friend would refer to younger hippies as tackle box kids, due to the beads in their dreads and all the pearcings. Mocking dreads isn't inherently racist.

Zendaya's dreads were extensions.

I know, R196, even more reason she sounds stupid getting offended about it.
She is basically what you call in high school a poser. She is wearing fake dreads to try to get more black race cred and it's so obvious she's trying so hard. She probably doesn't even smoke weed, but if her dreads were real she probably would.
She just wants publicity and has no idea what she's talking about it seems.

R190, to, answer your question...yes. And the fact that Zelda was wearing fauxloc is why the comment was "looks like she smells" and not "she smells," R196.

IP address monitor please. Calling an 18 year old a cunt. Probably a 35 year old faggot member of NAMBLA man/boy sex shit. All of you are willing participants in fucking 15 year old boys or younger; you've just learned to keep quiet about it. The fact you think it is legitimate to call an 18 year old a cunt, put it in the title of a thread with no retribution is proof how entrenched your disregard of children reaches.
Then you turn around and use language reserved for babies and kittens to describe stank dump taking, hair balls, farting grown ass men as 'adorable.'
You all are some sick fucks.

From naughtygossip.com
“Kelly had a blowout fight with Kathy when she started the show,” the second “Fashion Police” insider tells us. “There were words, because Kelly talks about Joan constantly — which is OK; we all love Joan, and Melissa (Rivers, Joan’s daughter and executive producer of the show) talks about her openly — but (Osbourne would) imply Kathy wasn’t Joan.”

I meant when he was alive R199 he was open about it and wrote songs about it. I thought he was the one who popularized the dreadlocks, pothead Rastafarian lifestyle and he wouldn't be offended by someone thinking he smoked weed because he was open about it because it's part of his lifestyle culture, not anything based on a specific race.

"Locs" instead of "locks"? Please.
by Anonymous | reply 213 | February 27, 2015 7:39 PM

Yeah, R213. Either is acceptable.
Locs or Locks Definition: Short for or replacing the somewhat negative term "dreadlocks," locs is a hairstyle where the hair that one would normally comb or shed locks on itself, creating ropelike strands. Hair is not combed during the locking process, which is what causes the strands to coil around themselves into fused units.
Don't believe me, then Google it. I'm not your search engine.

White people can't really do locs. Yeah, I know, we've all seen them try, but straight hair doesn't loc well. In fact, in order for straight hair to loc at all, one must abstain from washing it. Straight hair gets RANCID when it isn't washed because oil will saturate it from root to tip. That's probably why any white person you've ever met with dreadlocs had an unpleasant smell. Kinky hair is drier, takes a long time to get "greasy" and will lock even with regular washing. Who are the people thinking dreadlocs aren't washed?

R216...I don't know what color you are, but I take it you smell like weed, at least I hope you do.

I read an article about the oil, odors, and locs remarks and many comments made were from blacks. They talked about the difficulty of styling black hair and the memory of taunts about awful old odor and oil stereotypes. The remarks hit a painful nerve, and after seeing the cute photos of Zendaya with her dread-locked father posted above, her reaction makes more sense to me. I doubt she was thinking about herself but about people she loves. Giuliana was right to apologize and she did so graciously considering the jokes were scripted and approved by a team of writers lead by a black male editor. Goodbye Kelly, the show is no longer a good fit for you.
