They Remade "The Odd Couple" With Matthew Perry???!!

Cancelled after how many episodes? Place your bets.

by Anonymousreply 69June 18, 2018 2:45 AM

Five episodes.

Why do they keep giving him scripts?

by Anonymousreply 1February 6, 2015 1:36 AM

Didn't they try a colored version not too long ago?

by Anonymousreply 2February 6, 2015 1:38 AM

The tv spots promoting the show looked fun and I generally hate sitcoms.

by Anonymousreply 3February 6, 2015 1:39 AM

I give it 3 episodes. It looks ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 4February 6, 2015 1:41 AM

He is tied with Cox for the least interesting career post-Friends. Kudrow has The Comeback - so she places first. Even David Schwimmer keeps busy with theater work.

by Anonymousreply 5February 6, 2015 1:42 AM

I say 6 eps. Who keeps pushing Matthew Perry into shows? I guess the same one who keeps pushing Julia Lewis Drafyfuss. Unless CBS plans to let it run till spring, bradcast the reruns again and then blow it off fall 2015. Guaranteed it will not make 22 episodes.

by Anonymousreply 6February 6, 2015 1:42 AM

Isn't "Two and a Half Men" pretty much an "Odd Couple" pairing?

So this remake will try to hold the fans of that show when it's gone.

by Anonymousreply 7February 6, 2015 1:43 AM

[quote]I guess the same one who keeps pushing Julia Lewis Drafyfuss.

JLD is genius on Veep. What the hell are you talking about? Are you drunk?

by Anonymousreply 8February 6, 2015 1:44 AM

R8 to each their own but I think Julia plays Elaine on everything she has been in, and she is tiresome.

And oh, I guess her billionaire father had nothing to do with her getting into show biz?

by Anonymousreply 9February 6, 2015 1:46 AM

[quote]Didn't they try a colored version not too long ago?

R2 Where ever do you come up with these witty gems. Referring to black people as colored in 2015, absolutely hilarious! You are so very very clever. How can you stand yourself?

The show that you're referring to is 1982's "The New Odd Couple", starring Demond Wilson and Ron Glass.

by Anonymousreply 10February 6, 2015 1:55 AM

So they did make a colored version. Thanks.

by Anonymousreply 11February 6, 2015 1:58 AM

Of course the ads play up a gay vibe teaser. When is Matt Perry going to come out? Talk about someone who is so obviously closeted.

by Anonymousreply 12February 6, 2015 2:25 AM

Who keeps pushing Matthew Perry on us? The same folks trying desperately to make Jennifer Aniston a movie star. Buy a clue, Hollywood. We don't like either of them.

by Anonymousreply 13February 6, 2015 2:39 AM

2. I can't even make it through the boring commercials for the show. The men do not have the Felix/Oscar chemisty

by Anonymousreply 14February 6, 2015 2:54 AM

This thread is useless with Thomas's dick pics.

by Anonymousreply 15February 6, 2015 3:02 AM

Why is he playing Oscar? I thought Felix was the gay one?

by Anonymousreply 16February 6, 2015 4:46 AM

It's got a cushy time slot after "Big Bang Theory" so I think it will make to the end of the season. I will predict, however, that it won't get renewed.

by Anonymousreply 17February 6, 2015 4:51 AM

[quote]Even David Schwimmer keeps busy with theater work.

The theater is designed for the unphotographable.

by Anonymousreply 18February 6, 2015 5:09 AM

Fuck you r4, you're supposed to be dead.

by Anonymousreply 19February 6, 2015 5:17 AM

R13 Speak for yourself, moron!

by Anonymousreply 20February 6, 2015 5:20 AM

R13 speaks for me.

by Anonymousreply 21February 6, 2015 5:23 AM

Those of us who love him couldn't bring ourselves to warn him about his previous shows. Why? 1)Because we felt we could be wrong, and his "charisma and talent" would last despite our disappointments; 2) It's silly. but we didn't want to hurt his feelings by saying his female co-stars had zero chemistry with him. (Because of his near-fatal bouts with drugs); 3)We didn't want to sound politically incorrect, when his last show had a large part for a barely talented Asian.

We love you, Matthew, despite all this. Hope you acquire some show-biz savvy, STAT!

by Anonymousreply 22February 6, 2015 5:32 AM

Ok, for you; just don't presume he speaks for everybody!

We have our independent opinions!

by Anonymousreply 23February 6, 2015 5:34 AM

[quote]Hope you acquire some show-biz savvy, STAT!

I agree. He's just a kid starting out and he's bound to make a mistake or two here and there. That doesn't diminish his range and talent.

Definitely one to watch.

by Anonymousreply 24February 6, 2015 6:27 AM

This show is being SAVAGED by the critics.

Even Entertainment Weekly, the suck-up favorite of all receptionists in South Dakota, gave it a D.

by Anonymousreply 25February 19, 2015 5:31 PM

I loved Go On. It was a lot better than Friends. The ensemble was tighter, the jokes were smarter, and it even pulled at a couple of heart strings. The Odd Couple looks terrible though. 4 episodes and that's only due to the pity factor.

by Anonymousreply 26February 19, 2015 5:50 PM

You can smell the gay panic "jokes" from a mile away. Bleh.

by Anonymousreply 27February 19, 2015 5:57 PM

If they want to star him in a re-make of a tired old sit-com, why not re-make Friends?

by Anonymousreply 28February 19, 2015 6:10 PM

Because "Episodes" is sooooo good Joey would be a fool to leave, even for "Friends".

by Anonymousreply 29February 19, 2015 6:12 PM

[quote]Even Entertainment Weekly, the suck-up favorite of all receptionists in South Dakota, gave it a D.

And yet, you still read it ?

by Anonymousreply 30February 19, 2015 6:41 PM

R30 That one review was linked on line.

Don't be so defensive; I'm sure you have a full life (and waist) was a receptionist in South Dakota.

by Anonymousreply 31February 19, 2015 7:27 PM

What a witty response, R31. When did your nursing home get wifi?

by Anonymousreply 32February 19, 2015 7:31 PM

He's all washed up I tell 'ya.

by Anonymousreply 33February 19, 2015 7:35 PM

Matthew Perry is not fat. He's very muscular...almost as strong and muscular as Matt LeBlanc.

by Anonymousreply 34February 19, 2015 7:36 PM

The show was fine and will last for a season at least. And Jennifer Aniston is a movie star, though god knows why.

by Anonymousreply 35February 20, 2015 2:19 AM

[quote]The show was fine

So says the fat cow how finds it difficult to sling those four Dominos boxes away and get up from the couch when the next sitcom comes on . . .

by Anonymousreply 36February 20, 2015 2:33 AM

I say 6 episodes, though how this ever got green lit is beyond me. Crap. I only watched it tonight because "Mom" was a repeat.

The Two and Half Men series finale was better than the Odd Couple. THATS saying something.

by Anonymousreply 37February 20, 2015 2:54 AM

I don't see why it's so impossible for Perry to play a big old mess.

by Anonymousreply 38February 20, 2015 2:58 AM

[quote][R8] to each their own but I think Julia plays Elaine on everything she has been in, and she is tiresome.

I think you are tiresome.

R37, there is more to the world than CBS. This is 2015, hon. You can watch almost anything you want.

by Anonymousreply 39February 20, 2015 3:07 AM

Matthew Perry is gay, gay I tell you.

by Anonymousreply 40February 20, 2015 3:13 AM

The Odd Couple will easily play out its 13 episodes and then won't be renewed. It has the post Big Bang spot, and CBS doesn't have any new comedy to replace this already midseason replacement.

Two and a Half Men is over. The Millers was pulled from the schedule. The McCarthys was pulled from the schedule. This is it until summer scheduling begins.

by Anonymousreply 41February 20, 2015 3:18 AM

Sounds boring.

by Anonymousreply 42February 20, 2015 3:49 AM

Thomas Lennon hosted "The Late Late Show" Mon-Wed, and was quite droll. I'd give this a look. Don't get the vitriol. If the Sheenless, Angusless TAHM lasted for seasons even if was creatively bankrupt, TOC should have a lock.

Lennon is fantastic. Perry hiring him is a great sign.

by Anonymousreply 43February 20, 2015 4:04 AM

Watched tonight's episode and it's actually better than I thought it was going to be. The last sight gag had me laugh out loud which I haven't done watching a sitcom in long, long time.

by Anonymousreply 44February 20, 2015 5:08 AM

I liked Go On and was sorry it got cancelled.

This show was a mess and the concept is just worn out. Why he would try to do this is beyond me.

He's actually better in more dramatic, less antic roles. His guest spots on dramas have been pretty good.

by Anonymousreply 45February 20, 2015 5:26 AM

The Matthew Perry curse will probably strike again.

I watched this and it was only ok. I think there were probably about 3 gay jokes. Oscar's friend thought Felix sounded gay or did something gay and so Oscar had to say no, he's not gay.

Then one of his friends was disappointed because he thought he was finally going to fill up his one token gay friend quota. The other friend then said you've already got me the black friend, so why would you need anything else.

Such is the level of levity in this show.

by Anonymousreply 46February 20, 2015 5:31 AM

I have no fucks to give re: Matthew Perry, but I adore Thomas Lennon, so I'll be watching(and I haven't watched a network sitcom since Seinfeld went off.) He hosted The Late Late Show and it reminded me of how much I've missed him since Reno 911 went away.

by Anonymousreply 47February 20, 2015 5:37 AM

I like Go On too r45, it's a shame they cancelled it. I haven't seen the odd couple yet. I'll give it a go because I like Màtthew Perry. I probably should get around to that quickly though before this is cancelled too.

by Anonymousreply 48February 20, 2015 5:45 AM

Watched tonights show and won't waste time on the next.

watched two and a half too. It really stunk.

by Anonymousreply 49February 20, 2015 6:01 AM

I love Matthew but damn he's looking rough these days.

by Anonymousreply 50February 20, 2015 8:00 AM

I see R36 is doing a life sentence in cliche prison.

by Anonymousreply 51February 20, 2015 8:31 AM

Matthew Perry has a huge cock.

by Anonymousreply 52February 20, 2015 9:35 PM

What a piece of shit show.

by Anonymousreply 53February 20, 2015 9:48 PM

It felt more like "Two and no half Men" than "The Odd Couple." Perry seemed drugged and looked like shit.

by Anonymousreply 54February 20, 2015 10:12 PM

Please give me a reason to keep watching, Matt.

Perry is too high pitched and not New York enough to play Oscar.

The apt is too gorgeous and large for a sportswriter to afford. The first episode they had a few piles of clothes lying around and tried to pass it off as messy.

There was not enough contrast when Felix came in and we lost some major laughs that way.

It was a bad idea to make a straight up remake, the originals are too indelible in most people's minds with reruns of the original still playing on MeTV.

They should have made a buddy show with a different name and premise.

by Anonymousreply 55March 4, 2015 9:04 PM

Jeez. How about an original idea? I thought they learned their lesson by remaking Little Black Annie. I'm so tired of anything half decent being regurgitated. Come up with an original idea.

by Anonymousreply 56March 4, 2015 9:37 PM

It's being now advertised as THE NUMBER ONE NEW COMEDY!!!!

It's March, please.

by Anonymousreply 57March 4, 2015 10:15 PM

They should do it with black women. I'm available!

by Anonymousreply 58March 4, 2015 10:59 PM

I actually met Matthew Perry once a while ago. He's an ok guy really. Not a very accomplished actor though. He is much better looking in real life than on tv or film. He has very nice manners.

by Anonymousreply 59March 5, 2015 12:31 AM

by Anonymousreply 60March 5, 2015 12:37 AM

Saw it. Pretty much sucked.

by Anonymousreply 61March 5, 2015 1:18 AM

Perry is sleepwalking through this. I don't think he gives a shit about much anymore. He should take a break and leave the business for a while.

by Anonymousreply 62March 5, 2015 2:49 AM

[You do realize that this is a troll, right? You might want to stop talking to it.]

by Anonymousreply 63March 6, 2015 2:22 PM

WhAtever charm perry had he lost it

by Anonymousreply 64March 6, 2015 2:49 PM

Tried to watch it lastnight. After 5 minutes of wacky neighbors, a too loud laughtrack and bad comedy lines delivered at the top of the decibel level, I just turned it off.

by Anonymousreply 65March 6, 2015 2:52 PM

r63

Just call him stubby.

by Anonymousreply 66March 6, 2015 3:42 PM

enuf Mathew Perry sit-coms he should quit the business and become a huge bottom.

by Anonymousreply 67July 28, 2015 7:39 PM

He was pretty good on The Good Wife. But I wouldn't watch this. I think he should get clean, but it's his life.

by Anonymousreply 68July 28, 2015 8:00 PM

This show was as painful as an infected tooth
