Chicago Fire spinoff planned: Chicago Med

There better be plenty of shirtlessness, or I refuse to support it.

I'm shocked. Shocked, I say. Someone only says "We took them to Chicago Med" twice per episode in each show. And Dick Wolf [italic]hates[/italic] spinoffs.

Shocked, I say.

CHicago Fire and PD are the only shows I watch on NBC, so I would try another in the Chicago genre.

Chicago is a beautiful architectural city and I like the local color on both series.

by Anonymousreply 2February 5, 2015 5:52 PM

Another show where we get to see Charlie Barnett? Yes, please.

by Anonymousreply 3February 5, 2015 7:53 PM

RE[3]

I agree that Charlie Barnett is incredibly HOT!

Not a lot about him on the net but damn he sure is beautiful! Would love to see him in a naked frontal!

R4, does Mills really want Dawson? Wouldn't he rather have Casey? Why can't they go on as three?

by Anonymousreply 5February 5, 2015 8:05 PM

I'd rather see Mills with Halstead.

by Anonymousreply 6February 5, 2015 8:21 PM

I'd rather see Hruzek with...me.

by Anonymousreply 7February 5, 2015 8:23 PM

Here's another article about the spin-off, with a bonus pic of a shirtless Severeid.

There already was a Chicago hospital show. I forget what it was called.

by Anonymousreply 9February 5, 2015 9:05 PM

Chicago Hope, R9.

by Anonymousreply 10February 5, 2015 9:08 PM

Hope was dope (and not in a good way).

by Anonymousreply 11February 5, 2015 9:11 PM

Chicago is a hole. They don't even run the escalator at the Division Red line stop on the weekend (it's one of the busiest stops) because they can't afford to.

Chicago is a fucked up mess.

by Anonymousreply 12February 5, 2015 9:18 PM

As R1 says, that's been clear from every episode they've gone to the hospital in this season, OP.

by Anonymousreply 13February 5, 2015 9:26 PM

r12, isn't that a Gold Coast stop? I'm surprised the local prima donnas don't rise up. Of course, they probably don't take the train.

by Anonymousreply 14February 5, 2015 9:33 PM

So they've been setting up a romance between Severide and April Sexton, his high school friend who works at Chicago Med.

Tonight, Co. 51 fought a fire in the Canaryville neighborhood, where "Shameless" is set. Wouldn't it have be so cool if a Gallagher kid had been spotted somewhere?

by Anonymousreply 15March 18, 2015 4:54 AM

Looks like Jay Halstead's (Jesse Sofer) older brother will be one of the E.R. docs on the show.

by Anonymousreply 16April 2, 2015 4:26 AM

Back-door pilot on now!

by Anonymousreply 17April 8, 2015 2:14 AM

Meh... Chicago Hope.

by Anonymousreply 18April 8, 2015 2:20 AM

Oliver Platt and S. Epatha Merkerson are the big guns for the new show. Did Lt. Van Buren from "Law & Order" have a twin sister, because the L&O and Chicago shows are in the same "universe." There's another L&O:SVU-Chicago Fire-Chicago PD super-crossover coming up.

by Anonymousreply 19April 8, 2015 6:34 AM

I used to watch Chicago Fire but I just don't buy the romance between that wanna be firewoman and that blonde guy. They have zero chemistry and don't even look compatible. Plus the killed off the lesbian character. so fuck off NBC.

by Anonymousreply 20April 8, 2015 6:41 AM

Nick Gehlfuss is playing the same irresponsible flake brother he played on SHAMELESS, only this time his brother is Jay from CHICAGO COP, Jesse Soffer. Hope they practice brotherly love.

I'm so happy Nick Gehlfuss is getting a lead role.

by Anonymousreply 21April 8, 2015 6:43 AM

The firewoman R20 speaks of feels more lesbian than anyone else on TV this year. They should have hooked her up with Shea.

by Anonymousreply 22April 8, 2015 6:46 AM

After seeing Oliver Platt on this and the Good Wife recently, I realize I like him more than I did when he was young.

by Anonymousreply 23April 8, 2015 6:47 AM

Platt plays a psychiatrist and doesn't seem to be the obnoxious scumbag-type he usually plays.

by Anonymousreply 24April 8, 2015 6:58 AM

I've never watched any of these Chicago shows before tonight even though I live in the area. Tried it tonight and it was beyond crazy. A nutty terrorist throws some kind of grenade while screaming about he's carrying a disease worse than ebola.

Then when people tried to escape they're ushered back into the hospital to be quarantined until they figure out this disease.

In the meantime, despite a bomb and someone claiming biological warfare, there's not FBI, no homeland security no CiA. None of those. Instead the person in charge appears to be the fire chief.

Then it also turns out that instead of evacuating the people in the bombed building, they leave them in a building that's on fire! Then of course the firemen decide to bravely try to put out the fire while exposing themselves to possible contagious disease.

The fire chief says no at first. I'm assuming she was in favor of everyone in the hospital burning alive. In the meantime she let's the parents of the terrorist inside the barricade.

After that I stopped watching. I can't believe there's going to be a spin off of that show.

R25 do you prefer the mess of How to get away with murder?

R20 they killed her off b/c the actress wanted to move back to L.A. Not b/c she was Lesbian. Look out for a new gay character soon. (My friend works on the series.)

by Anonymousreply 26April 8, 2015 10:40 AM

Wasn't the tv show ER based in Chicago? I'd rather watch reruns of that. It's funny because during an episode of Shameless, when Frank was at the hospital, the red headed male doctor from ER popped in and I thought that was a cute nod to that show. shameless is also based in Chicago.

by Anonymousreply 27April 8, 2015 11:55 AM

R26 You got me because I do prefer How to Get Away with Murder. Of course that has some unrealistic elements but it's basically a show about people lying and scheming in order to get away with a crime. It's about the psychology of what makes these people tick. It's also a soap opera and it stays true to that form like Empire.

HTGAW also sticks to basics. Prosecutors prosecute, defense attorneys defend, cops investigate and Judges judge.

In that Chicago fire episode you had a city fire chief handling and making decisions about a possible biological terrorists. You had them letting in the parents of the terrorists before they've been briefed by homeland security and deemed not a threat . You had the fire chief make the brilliant decision to send a whole group of innocent people back into a burning building because they may have been exposed to a disease. Who does that? Why wouldn't you evacuate and isolate them all in a safe building?

I just couldn't take all the WTF in that episode. Maybe they have better episodes than that though.

by Anonymousreply 28April 8, 2015 1:12 PM

Hate hate hate the wimpy nurse (the one with a past with Severeid).

by Anonymousreply 29April 8, 2015 1:24 PM

I've just started watching this show.

Colin Donnell was fine in "The Affair" (loved his rendition of House of The Rising Sun - see link) on the S2 finale) but is a bit ridiculous in this one, playing the brooding new doc who is all too aware that he is the best looking thing in the room. And he is indeed very nice to look at, which is why I started watching the show in the first place. Major gay voice.

Nick Gehlfuss gets the top billing on the show (he is the first name in the credits, then they list everyone else in alpha order). Weird, since he is not exactly a household name and the Donnell character gets more screen time. I remember him from Season 4 of Shameless where he played Jake McDorman's hot brother. He's a nice looking ginger.

The acting is pretty wooden and bad, especially the actress who plays the pregnant lady doc. And I like S. Epatha Merkerson but she is essentially playing Lt. Van Buren in a hospital setting. Oliver Platt looks like hell.

It's slightly better than the last several seasons of ER but doesn't come close to touching ER in its heyday.
