Has anyone had a premonition either while asleep or awake?

So i had a premonition the other night while i slept and no one will believe me. But i know the truth. I'm sure that i'm not the only person to get these types of dreams. Any stories?

by Anonymousreply 55July 17, 2018 8:57 PM

I had a premonition that your thread will be deleted, OP.

by Anonymousreply 1February 1, 2015 7:53 AM

Yes

by Anonymousreply 2February 1, 2015 8:01 AM

What made this premonition so hard to believe, OP? Did it actually happen?

by Anonymousreply 3February 1, 2015 8:54 AM

Yes R3 for about half an hour the next day my dream played out in front of me. I knew what was going to be said, heard and seen right down to small details like a friend dropping her fork on the floor. It was boring i didnt say it wasnt but very odd. Also I knew you were going to say that R1

by Anonymousreply 4February 1, 2015 9:10 AM

I've had a few premonitions that I was going to be imminently injured, and they came true.

For example, I was walking down a set of stairs, and suddenly imagined/sensed that I was about to slip, sit down hard, and twist my ankle -- and then it happened! But I swear the premonition happened at least several seconds beforehand, it wasn't any sort of time confusion.

by Anonymousreply 5February 1, 2015 9:39 AM

I get them all the time. Perhaps this really is the Matrix.

by Anonymousreply 6February 1, 2015 4:39 PM

I had a premotition [italic]that [/italuc]no one will believe me. So far, it's true.

"Has anyone had a premonition either while asleep or awake?"

I did.

by Anonymousreply 11February 1, 2015 9:40 PM

Shadow people inhabit OP's bedroom.

by Anonymousreply 12February 1, 2015 9:44 PM

Yes, Many times. Pre-cognative dreams. Almost always pre-shadowing something bad. I know immediately that I have had one because they are much more vivid and detailed than regular dreams. I kind of dread them.

by Anonymousreply 13February 1, 2015 10:22 PM

Yes. It runs in my family, too.

My aunt dreamed my brother would die two weeks before he died of SIDS.

When my mom was 20, she dreamed of a murder scene of a friend and it turned out that friend was later murdered and that was the exact scene.

A couple days before 9/11, my brother wanted to kill himself because he heard thousands of people screaming in his head and was overwhelmed.

I've had smaller premonitions randomly over time, e.g. 'You need to pee before leaving work'. So I pee, thankfully, and then get stuck in a broken elevator for two hours with an already-emptied bladder.

by Anonymousreply 14February 2, 2015 2:15 AM

Yes. I had several of them in my lifetime

by Anonymousreply 15February 2, 2015 2:22 AM

Both my mother and i snapped awake at 3:17 am and we both freaked out knew something awful had happened. A friend of the family died in a car crash... the time printed in the paper was 3:17 am Does that count?

by Anonymousreply 16February 2, 2015 3:18 AM

I have.

by Anonymousreply 17February 2, 2015 3:37 AM

I've had premonitions about the birth of babies.

The only bad premonition was in the last century when Carter sent helicopters in to save hostages. The helicopters failed and crashed and the military planned it that way. The military needed a big spender like Reagan in office...they wanted rid of the conservative.

by Anonymousreply 18February 2, 2015 3:44 AM

I have had a few premonitory dreams.

One involved the wife of someone I worked with. I had never met her and the husband worked in another department. Months earlier someone mentioned his wife was ill. One night I had a dream I was sitting in the backseat of a car. He was driving, she was sitting in the passenger's front seat. It was raining and I could see the rain tracks on the windshiel. As we passed under a street light she turned to look at me. The light threw shadows on her face so it looked as if tears were running down it. I called out"Look at her face!" then woke. That day at work I heard his wife had died the night before.

Another dream was about a friend who was ill. I was driving in Manhattan and somehow took a wrong turn. I pulled over and looked up out of the window and saw that I was parked near Riverside Memorial Chapel. I had heard of it many times but never seen it before. I prepared to pull out into traffic again and saw my friend crossing the street. I honked and called to him but he never saw me. Perhaps two weeks later he died. I thought he would be buried in NJ since his family lived there. However, his brother flew in from another state and had him cremated. He asked me to accompany him to scatter the ashes in a river upstate. When he picked me up I saw the ashes in a cardboard package. The label had my friend's name on it and Riverside Memorial. He had been cremated there.

by Anonymousreply 19February 2, 2015 3:44 AM

My mother was hanging laundry, yes I'm old, she looked down and there was blood pouring from a gash in her leg. She ran to the house and when she looked down there was nothing there. The next day my mother, my father and I were thrown from a boat in an accident and her injury was the gash on her leg.

by Anonymousreply 20February 2, 2015 3:50 AM

OP, I"ve had that before. Dreams that then play out in reality.

It's freaked me out I had pushed it aside and forgotten it, but you reminded me of it. And like your experience, it was a boring mundane day, nothing of significance except that I had already dreamed it. The reliving of it felt like I was in a twilight zone episode. I actually went home and got under the covers, freaked out..

I've had it too.

by Anonymousreply 21February 2, 2015 3:56 AM

Not really a premonition, but post-Internet, yet pre-Google (late 90s), I dreamed of a girl I hadn't seen since elementary school. She wanted to start a computer business with me, and it was very clear she was a lesbian in the dream. She had not been obviously gay as a kid - geeky, yes, but not into computers at all.

So I searched her the next morning. This was back when not everyone was all that searchable. There she was, rainbow flag flying, marching in a gay pride parade with her gf. She had gone back to college to get a second major in company sci.

by Anonymousreply 22February 2, 2015 3:58 AM

Company sci= comp sci

by Anonymousreply 23February 2, 2015 5:37 AM

R21 That is not how i felt but i did really want people to understand it. I did feel very alone and a bit crazy for quite some time.

R13 I agree with being able to feel a difference with premonition dreams. They are much more vivid and somehow i just know when i have had one. It is now something i tend to dread because they are life changing in one way or another. Mostly i dream of death or illness or new love in my premonition dreams.

by Anonymousreply 24February 2, 2015 7:43 AM

More than premonition, I mostly have garden-variety intuition. I read people, sometimes get flashes of random knowing about people without ever asking for it, but mostly I just catch surface-y stuff. Sometimes I can tune into a person directly and get something real or useful, but I don't know how accurate it always is.

Again, it runs in my family. My brother (same one who experienced the thousands dying in the World Trade Center days before it happened), when he was 10 or 12, was gearing up to go on a short helicopter ride with my dad. Surely he was excited and I don't know why they had the opportunity. They're waiting to get on, and just before they enter, my brother has a bad feeling and won't get on. The people who went instead on that very flight either had injuries or died. I'm a little unclear about the details. No one bats an eye about this in my family because we're all this way to some degree.

I know when I'm about to suddenly lose a job, or when clients are secretly unhappy with me (without any evidence to suggest it). Although I frequently try to talk myself out of thinking negatively, I later find out I had been picking up on something in the airwaves (psychic waves?). It's frustrating, because, since my readings are accurate and sometimes not, I second guess myself easily when I have a bad feeling.

Have been learning for some years to trust my intuition more, and not lead only with my head. It's tricky in a society that largely scoffs at this sort of thing, made no better by intuition's variability.

by Anonymousreply 25February 2, 2015 8:01 AM

Enjoyed these post spooky!

by Anonymousreply 26February 2, 2015 9:21 AM

This kind of thing happens in my family a lot. Most of them pretend it doesn't, though. This includes seeing/experiencing ghosts. Most of time it's just annoying, not very useful.

I had a lot of these things go on when I was a child until I finally managed to shut it down. When I was about 33 it all came flooding back and really threw me for a loop. I got some training in Wicca (various techniques and subjects) and got a handle on it again. These days I can mostly ignore it, but it really comes alive during Tarot readings.

Now take this for what you will, but various mental illnesses (bipolar disorder, depression, OCD, ADHD and autism; NOT psychosis or schizophrenia, however) run in my family too, along with very high intelligence (IQ testing over 160).

by Anonymousreply 27February 2, 2015 9:53 AM

I had several instances where I became very alarmed around people I knew casually...a checker at the supermarket, a guy in a group meeting, a neighbor...who died suddenly soon after. This was over about a year, then both the feelings and the sudden deaths stopped.

I figured...well this is like PTSD, only shifted in time.

by Anonymousreply 28February 2, 2015 10:05 AM

Three times I'd been happily going through my day when suddenly I was hit my something like narcolepsy. Just BAM! I would suddenly go to sleep whether I liked it or not.

Later I found that all three times coincided with the deaths of people I knew long ago.

by Anonymousreply 29February 2, 2015 1:21 PM

I once had a vivid but not very interesting dream where I ran into an old friend (hadn't seen him in years) at my gym. I remembered it clearly when I woke up and then forgot it until that night, when I was pulling into the gym parking lot and recalled dreaming him coming up the stairs from the work out area into the lobby, where we then stepped aside next to a vending machine to chat.

So I parked and walked into the lobby just in time to see him coming up the stairs. We stepped aside to talk - next to a vending machine - and for the first minute or so I barely listened to what he said, I was so freaked out.

Then I told him about the dream - and the fact that I'd just been remembering it as I pulled into the parking lot. I think he thought I was nuts. I never saw him again after that.

by Anonymousreply 30February 2, 2015 1:39 PM
I've had smaller premonitions randomly over time, e.g. 'You need to pee before leaving work'. So I pee, thankfully, and then get stuck in a broken elevator for two hours with an already-emptied bladder.

It's too bad your subconscious isn't able to tell you "take the stairs instead of the elevator when leaving work today," isn't it? Funny how premonitions and intuition tend to be vague or incomplete like that.

by Anonymousreply 31February 2, 2015 1:55 PM

I have had both dream premonitions and premonitions when awake. My mother and her mother were very intuitive too. My grandmother most always knew who was call when the phone rang. One day my grandmother was preoccupied with a recipe she was making, when she stopped with a stunned expression on her face. My teenage mother asked her what was wrong and she replied "your sister Lois just feel off a horse and broke her arm." Sure enough that was totally true, down to the time it happened.

The strangest experience I've had is with a particular person I run into from time to time. He lives in another country and English is not his first language. I don't know very much about his personal life I mostly know about his profession. But for years, I have very strong dreams about him from time to time and something about his past or present life. It's very odd. Usually the dream indicates something specific about how he'll behave toward me the next time I run into him.

The vibe between us is very strong, a bit like what it might be like to have a twin - this odd, unspoken sense that we've known each other intimately forever. It's like a soul recognition that overrides our individual personalities and individual lives. It's somewhat unsettling for both of us. By the way, those dreams about him always prove to be accurate. I don't have this type experience with other people.

I know it sounds very strange, and it used to freak the shit out of me. Now I am simply used to the strangeness though it still puzzles me.

by Anonymousreply 32February 2, 2015 1:57 PM

^^^ it should say "FELL off a horse" I hate spellcheck.

by Anonymousreply 33February 2, 2015 3:53 PM

I've had dreams that come true since childhood, although it's entirely random and like others upthread posts, it's always about banal situations. But when it happens, I'm always struck that this is exactly what was said and exactly how it played out in the dream. Also like others, intuitive/psychic type abilities run in the family. I had a great-great aunt who predicted some shipwreck in England.

Also, if I ever get that sick feeling of danger in my stomach, I pay attention. It happened to me once on a plane. I got the worst feeling, started sweating, and got really nervous. I imagined the plane being OK and sent positive thoughts and light to the situation. We started to pull away from the gate and I was still sending good energy, when suddenly the bad feeling went away. We weren't that far from the gate when the plane stopped and moved back to it. The pilot came over the line and said he needed to have maintenance check something out. About 20 minutes later, the pilot said there was some mechanical issue and we were going to be delayed another 45 minutes while it was fixed.

After it was fixed and we were in the air, I asked one of the flight attendants what the mechanical issue was. She said it was actually serious and it was a good thing the pilot had it checked out before we left. Shit, I still shiver at that experience.

I knew it wasn't just me out there experiencing these sorts of things. There is far more to my story and yes it runs in my family too. Well it seems to be only my mother and i. We are connected deeply and can ask each other to do things like pick up olives from the shops and she will do it. I wonder now about the origin of most of these posters. My family history is from a few places but mainly England and Isle of man. I have spoken to many intuitive peope in my life and they always say it is an old thing. An ancient gift from our ancestors.

by Anonymousreply 35February 3, 2015 5:58 AM

I had a dream that Lena Zavaroni was going to die at a fairly young age. Despite all her fame, doctors couldn't save her. She was gone at age 35.

by Anonymousreply 36February 3, 2015 6:18 AM

Is this Witchiepoo again?

by Anonymousreply 37February 3, 2015 2:51 PM

I am not witchiepoo. But she sounds awesome

by Anonymousreply 38February 22, 2015 2:39 AM

Why can't I have a premonition of the lottery numbers?

by Anonymousreply 39February 22, 2015 2:41 AM

OP my ancestry is mainly Irish and a little English. It also seems to run in my family on both sides. My aunt, mom, cousin and sister all have it pretty strong. My aunt has visions and talks to the dead. I've had premonitions all of my life mostly insignificant. I had a 911 premonition which was the creepiest thing I've ever experienced.

by Anonymousreply 40February 22, 2015 6:34 AM

Yep. I just did today. When I woke up, still a bit groggy and half asleep, I suddenly had this realization that someone I had know of hanged himself. I knew it was a male and that they hanged them self. Then this afternoon I heard the news about Draven Rodriquez, the laser cat yearbook photo boy took his life. I was extremely sad. He was such a beautiful boy and he had such great potential. He could have been anything, even a model. I feel really bad. Now when I see his picture it's haunting and eerie. Plus it doesn't help that he looks similar to my boyfriend. It's not been released that Draven died by hanging but I can assure you he did. I don't have any evidence but I just know it deep down, like psychic.

by Anonymousreply 41February 22, 2015 6:46 AM

I've told this before - here and to friends and family - but no one ever seems impressed. But it really freaked me out at the time.

It was either late 1987 or early 1988. I was 17 and in my room listening to the radio. A news break came on discussing the race for president between Bush and Dukakis. I suddenly just knew that if Bush were elected he would be bad for America and would lead us into war. There was no flash or anything. I just knew. And a couple years later Desert Storm happened.

I guess people aren't impressed since it was the Cold War era and war with Russia had been a constant threat for years. But this was obviously a different situation. I was especially worried because I was about to be draft age.

by Anonymousreply 42February 22, 2015 7:35 AM

R40 What was the premonition?

I was watching a TV program about premonitions. One story was about a person in Great Britain who saw on the news that a coal slag heap had collapsed on a school. She knew of the school and went to see and there was nothing wrong. A while (days) later, the disaster happened just as she had "seen" it on the news.

The same thing happened to me, although I heard it on the radio on the way to school. I swore I heard the the USA won over the Soviets in the Winter Olympics hockey game but the game wasn't played until the day after I heard the score on the radio.

Around the same time (perhaps at the same time) I heard on the radio that a diplomat had been assassinated. A day later, it was on the TV news. Only the news said it happened that day, not the day I thought I heard it on the radio.

by Anonymousreply 43February 22, 2015 8:03 AM

I've had tons of these, runs in my family, some that haven't come true yet. One I had five years ago I'll give you a heads up about. During an illness (norovirus) where I was in bed out of it, I was shown there was a well orchestrated plan to send terrorists with ties to Afghanistan (land of red poppies in the desert sands) into the U.S. by way of the Yucatan Peninsula, up through Mexico crossing our border. I was shown there is a multi "4 prong" event (shown a fork) to happen simultaneously in 4 cities. When I woke up from the dream, I had to look up where "Yucatan Peninsula" was as I didn't know. I didn't know at the time how this could be possible, now years later I understand with the big rush of people coming in that it is possible. I hope I'm wrong. It would be nice to just be a nut case about this.

Years before 9/11, I would board an airplane and watch the people coming on board and I would actively scan them, looking for Middle Easterners and when seeing one, I would mentally ask "are you going to hijack this plane?" I had no idea why I was doing that but it was a compulsion to. Now I know why.

I'm afraid I've been doing that since the 1980s.

by Anonymousreply 45February 22, 2015 9:55 AM

My mother gets them all the time and ignores them because somewhere deep down inside she believes it to be dark spirits. From the premonitions i have had, it seems to me they are more likely to be guardians of sorts.

by Anonymousreply 46February 25, 2015 10:14 AM

Not so much a premonition but to me it was significant.

I was walking to a friends house at night listening to music, when i felt a strong poke in my back. It was hard enough for me to stop dead and turn around only to find nobody near me at all.

I then felt silly and kept walking up to the lights where it was green to walk. Heart still racing i looked around then took a step into the road just as a car sped through the red light and actually clipped my shoe. One or two steps more i would have died. Make of it what you will but i said my thanks anyway.

I get them every day. It's horrible actually, especially as two-thirds of them don't actually happen. I wonder if someone is putting drugs in my food.

by Anonymousreply 49March 3, 2015 9:39 PM

Don't be jealous now R49

I had a premonition Michelle put mustard on my roast beef. We broke up later that afternoon.
I suddenly just knew that if Bush were elected he would be bad for America and would lead us into war.

Oh, baby doll, we go to war every time we "elect" a republican president!

I, too, have dreams that I later experience while awake. The dreams don't seem to have any particular timing but my experiences (recognizing non-every-day situations and knowing without fail what will happen next) seem to cluster just before a major life change.

I have crazy random dreams as well, but a number of them play out in real life. Right now I'm hopeful they mean I'm going to get the job for which I'm interviewing.

I had a recurring dream for most of my life that I couldn't scream or speak out when I needed to. I got mugged a few years ago and yelled bloody fucking murder until the mugger got scared and ran off (without my purse). I've never had the dream since.
