Just watched this movie last night after not having seen it in years. Richard Gere was hot as fuck in it, and this scene, which was filmed at gay club The Probe in L.A. is sexy. Cheryl Barnes's LOVE AND PASSION goes perfectly with the scene.
Those two leather dudes they show dancing and doing poppers were popular porn stars of the time. Both dead now sadly

That was dark, weird, sleazy, and stereotypical. Gross, not hot.

R1 you are correct that was Val Martin who was a famous porn actor during that time. He also was a part owner of the Probe disco. Val was know for pushing the envelop in porn back then. He died in 1985
R2 you must be a Millennial child with no exposure to what life was like in the 70s. My suggestion is you watch the documentary Gay Sex in the 70s" to gain a better understanding.

Millennial? Probably just a typical old DL priss.

Just curious. What's happening in the clip plot wise?

R5 he is seeking out a gay pimp to provide him with an alibi for a murder. The pimp sent him to a client who was the wife of a political leader.

Thanks for the link, [OP]. I had the soundtrack on vinyl (I KNOW) and had forgotten about that song.

R3, an understanding of that particular subset of gay male life does not mean it won't still be considered dark, weird, sleazy, and stereotypical. There were many bi and gay people back then who didn't like that scene too.

R8 that subset as you call it has existed since the dawn of time will always be there. Just like the all the other "subsets" ( drag queens, cross dressers, twinkie boys the list goes on and on) .
Now I will be honest I would rather hang out with a leather man than a drag queen any day of the week. But I seek to know and understand the drag queen culture even though it's my preference not to be around it or engage in it.

another depiction of gay men are weirdos and freaks. Leather crap

As opposed to the current media circus with dressing as a woman or being transgender?
Bruce Jenner would look way better in leather than a dress.
Just saying

Giorgio Moroder and anything by Bobby Orlando will transport me back to my first visit to the Gandy Dancer in Vancouver.

Great scene. Love the film and the sleazy undercurrent of it and what prostitutes have to go through.

Makes me wonder...was the setting familiar for Gere?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 24, 2015 4:08 PM |
R14 , I did not see any gerbils in that scene

Richard is one of the biggest douches in cinema history

For what exactly,R16?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 24, 2015 4:46 PM |
R2 Just wait 20 to 30 years and this time will look the same.

I love the scene where Gere and Lauren Bacall speak French in the restaurant.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 24, 2015 4:57 PM |
I have not seen this movie but it looks interesting. Is it true that Gere is bisexual?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | January 30, 2016 10:00 PM |
And the film is a total lie. Everyone knows only gay men pay for them. Wealthy women marry them.

Who cares about the opinion of someone who uses the word "stereotypical" to criticize something gay?

It’s on again - and it’s such a time warp. Music, decor, attitude, homophobia. Odd that 1980 LA decor looked like Miami Vice. Gold palm trees, curved furniture, pink and greens.

The Probe doorman wouldn't let you thru the rope if you were wearing an unstructured Armani jacket. Unless it was made of black patent leather and it's all you had on and you sucked him off in the parking lot and you were Richard Gere.
