Funny story: A friend related a story about how one of these young, 21-year-old skater-punks passed him and a group of about 6 other burly bear-Marys having brunch in an outside street patio.

Off topic, but...I took my nephew to the library for a kids holiday party. This one male librarian was about 350 lbs. So large that he didn't actually walk but more like he lumbered forward. He dropped a stack of papers on the floor and bent over to pick them up (bending over was almost impossible). His pants were already sagging because they couldn't find a place to snag onto the fat. I digress. He bent over and his pants came down so far that you could see his ENTIRE ASS. His underwear was stuck in his pants. R22, Anybody can post sources. However, the sources have to be checked and verified. Those sources speak nothing to where sagging came from. Thus, that particular snopes page is no good. People put snopes on a pedestal but fail to realize it's just one man and one woman who simply doo a Google search and get paid for it. Just like with Wikipedia, if the sources aren't legit and don't actually provide evidence for the claims in the article, then it's not legit.

it's a style thing. guys like to sag their pants...high schoolers of every race. Now that skinny jeans are in, it's even worse. Baggy shirts used to hide the undies, but now they're wearing tight shirts with sagging jeans(practically leggings). I work in a high school. Seeing the new trends makes me feel SO old even though I graduated H.S. in 2003.

Wiggas like Justin Timberlake and Justin Bieber have done much to promote the ghetto "thug" culture to the young white demographic, and made tons of money doing so.

So much of what young white kids and adults consider "cool" is directly from African-American gang/thug culture. From wearing saggy pants, gold chains, various bandanas (supposedly to signal gang affiliation), to skinny white girls with no behinds trying to "twerk".

Long story short white children/teens/young adults have embraced and some totally love the hip-hop/rap culture of African Americans.

IMO the claim that it was a way to basically "present hole" in prison is a homophobic myth. Prison origin, sure. But I think people wanting to criticize the trend concocted the gay association to try to shame teens out of it.
