Yes, he was cute, sweet, and rather handsome. He's so typecast as Norman Bates that people tend to forget that before "Psycho", he usually played puppyish male ingenues. He actually started the film by doing a version of his usual sweet, sad-eyed, mildly troubled young innocent... and, well. People must have been totally shocked.

He should have been nominated for an Oscar, he was quite brilliant. But the AMPAS seemed to have a policy of disregarding Hitchcock's actors.

When he began in Hollywood he was adorable and totally unique! There was never another actor in film with his quality.

He was considered kind of a heartthrob/teen idol in the 50s. Psycho totally changed his image.

I wonder why Janet Leigh went supporting. I mean, I can see it, with her limited screen time and what-not. But at the time, that category was usually reserved for starlets and character actors, and Leigh was pretty much established.

Anne Baxter won Supporting Actress for THE RAZOR'S EDGE, but four years later she refused to be "relegated" to the supporting category for ALL ABOUT EVE, where she might've easily won. But her pride was too great.

One cannot possibly be a supporting actress playing the eponymous role, r16.

I think he was adorable, and he's set the template for the kind of guy I like -- clean cut, boyish, preppy/nerdy.

Well,he had a budding singing career and was even marketed as something of a teen idol ,but of course after `Psycho` this couldn`t go on .

He also played a mad man of a photographer in "Mahogany."

First came upon Anthony Perkins via listening to the recording of Evening Primrose. Then saw him on TV in films such as Murder on the Orient Express, Is Paris Burning?, Catch 22, and so forth. Each and every time could not help thinking what a cool and tall glass of water AP was.

With the advent of the Internet have been able to "Google" up many of his other works and of course images and the last comment stands. In his day the guy was very attractive in that lanky, tall WASP sort of way.

Many tall and thin guys have trouble/need time to "grow into" themselves. Add to this Mr. Perkins was a very attractive young man and that just puts a bit more on his plate.

To all this we cannot forget he was questioning and or in the closet.

Have always felt Psycho placed AP into a narrow typecast range that he just couldn't totally break free. Major tragedy of course was HIV/AIDs.

He did have a lighter comedic side in his early career that was wonderfully showcased in Tall Story and The Matchmaker. He's quite adorable in both.

Later, when I found myself instantly attracted to nutcases and violent people, I looked back and was rather frightened that it was obviously hard-wired into me when I was 5 and thought Tony Perkins was the most handsome man I'd ever seen.

He had the starring role in a Frank Loesser musical called Greenwillow in 1959 or 1960. It wasn't a hit, although it ran for a bit, and he was very appealing in it.
