This is crazy shit. He didn't have his phone or wallet, only 50 bucks on him at time he disappeared. Without a trace.
A dad disappears at the Denvers Bronco game while son went to the restroom.

That's really weird, and very frightening. The whole disappearing without a trace thing has always freaked me out.
From what they are saying, he is a good guy. But you never know - maybe he has a double life and took off with a mistress. ??
Why would a man be abducted or kidnapped? It's not like he was a flashy guy who looked like he had money. And if he was, you'd think he'd be yelling and putting up a fight - someone would have had to have seen and/or heard something. The place was packed.
I'm looking forward to seeing this unfold and hope he's ok.

I read about this on a couple sports sites. Pretty weird. If he took off and left his son there to worry he is a complete dick.

r1 there's no way he was kidnapped, at least not in the stadium. There's really no scenario in which he's forced out of their against his will, exactly for the reasons you said--it's packed, lot of security, no weapons allowed inside.
Thinking he definitely took off. Maybe he'll turn up in a couple days. Maybe not.

obviously one of three things:
1. He deliberately disappeared to start a new life. Hence, no identifying or locating cards, phone, etc. Money stash hidden at a pick-up spot.
2. He was kidnapped. In a crowd. At random. A grown man and not a small and helpless child.
3. The last person to see him arranged for his demise and disappearance. That would be his adult son.

Agatha Christie-reading, armchair sleuth here. One thing that often comes up - from the mouths of the particular detective - in an Agantha Christie novel (and doubtless from other mystery novelists) is a reminder to:
Listen to what is said BY an another person only. Meaning - and I wondered about this from the beginning; sorry if it sounds terrible:
Has anyone besides the son (or step-son; if the latter, that is more interesting) actually SEEN this guy? Is there independent "proof" that the came to the game?
My point: I wonder if the son/step-son "did him in" before, and the body is disposed of somewhere.
Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

by Anonymous | reply 33 | October 28, 2014 6:09 PM |
r27 what link was that from? Didn't see it but now it seems like a pretty obvious confirmation that he was getting loaded and probably left to keep drinking somewhere... which turned into a 'Lost Weekend' and probably death scenario.
But also for a big guy like him in that much time that's really not a lot of beer at all, even at your standard 16 oz stadium beer. In four hours he might just barely be buzzed.
After that amount though you wanna keep drinking and chase the feeling, especially if he's an alcoholic, so maybe he decided that with his $50 he could get plastered outside. Seems the most likely scenario to me.

Fugue state? It is possible that he had an episode of a dissociative disorder. Many years ago I used to work at a crisis mental health facility in a rural N. California town. In the course of two years we had two of these cases.
Both times police and county officials were able to identify and return them home. I was on shift when one patient was admitted. She was a bit "off." I can't recall if she had other diagnoses; she likely wasn't extensively evaluated since she was put on a bus back to Utah within a couple of days.

Paul Kitterman, 53, and his son, Jarod, 20, were enjoying their first football game at Sports Authority Field on Thursday night after driving from their home in Kremmling with two friends, Denver’s Channel 9 reported.
The father and son, whose seats were not next to pals Tia Bakke and her boyfriend, met up with their buddies at halftime.
“Paul’s like, ‘We’ll see you after the game,’ ” Bakke recalled. Jarod then went to use the bathroom and was supposed to meet his dad back at their seats. Only Paul never showed up.
“He’s absolutely nowhere to be found,” Bakke said. “It’s been the longest, [most] miserable three days of our lives.”

They all met together at half-time and were supposed to meet up after the game, but the other two people were not with them continuously, so it is really just the stepson's story.

He had no credit card and had taken only $50? That money would only cover the 4 or 5 beers he had in the stadium (unless someone else was buying). He had no money to binge on by time he left/disappeared. If he had a debit card there would be some kind of a trail.
He was also from a rural area two hours away, without a vehicle, and in a place he wasn't familiar with. How far would he have had to walk to find a drink? And he just doesn't strike me as the sort with a secret life or who has an alias and a fake account.

His stepson went back to his seat for the second half of the game and didn't worry about his stepdad until the game was over? If I'm sitting next to a family member and that person suddenly disappears, I would probably call my friends whom I came to the game with and find out if that person is with them, right away. The stepson obviously had a cell phone since his friends called to tell him where they would be waiting when the game was over. The cops obviously know what happened and did not share the security tapes with the family because the family is involved. Always suspect the worst when it comes to a family member, they can never be trusted.

My favorite is Lord Lucan. Someone needs to make a movie about that.
The Lord Lucan story has it all: fabulous London townhouse, a member of the upper nobility who was never seen or heard from again and, of course, a bloodied Lady Lucan running into a Belgravia Square pub screaming "murder" while decked out in mod English fashions!

Who gave the friend the tickets for that game? When? Why?
Did the group drive to the game in one vehicle? Did they stop anywhere on the way to / from the stadium?
PK did not bring his cell phone to the game.
Is PK's cell phone located at his home? This has not been reported.
Has PK's cell phone been checked by family? This has not been reported.
Has PK's cell phone been checked by LE? LE has found no reason to do so.
Have PK's phone records been subpoenaed by LE for review? LE has found no reason to do so.
Did PK's stepson call PK's cell phone and / or home phone before they eventually left the stadium (if they thought PK might then be home to answer it)?
How many photos were captured of PK / anyone else in the group at the game?
Who captured the photos?
Are they saved on the same or different storage devices (be that camera, phone or memory card)?
Have buses and / or train stations (near stadium and his home) been checked for surveillance videos?

Not just those reasons. Men who are balding or bald wear caps outside for warmth in cold weather and for protection from the sun for their exposed skin in warm weather.
Kitterman lived in rural Colorado and worked outside as a ranch hand and sometimes doing construction work. He would have worn caps for protection.

Surely, his employer and friends would have something of an idea of who he hung out with. I believe he lived on the ranch.
The Daily Mail said that the tickets were offered at the last moment and they rushed out of the house. It seemed implied that the cell was left behind in their haste, but a friend described him as a "simple man" who didn't like technology much. It almost sounds like he's the kind of a guy who wouldn't have a credit card either.

Most accurate reporting seems to be... they all met up at half time. Jarod went to the bathroom and could see the other 3 until he was about 5th in line for the bathroom. Then there was a wall in the way. Then the 3rd quarter was starting and the couple left to go back to their seats and left Paul to wait for Jarod to come out of the washroom. Jarod didn't see Paul when he came out so he went to his seat. When Paul wasn't there too, he thought Paul maybe went to sit with the other couple.

I could be way off but I'm really thinking he became overwhelmed or had a medical episode and is trapped somewhere within the stadium.
I've been to two NFL games, the first was about 14 years ago, the second was last year. I had forgotten how loud the games are. By the end of the first half, I had a horrible headache. Halftime was a relief since no one was yelling and most of the stadium clears out for drinks or bathroom breaks.
I can't help but wonder if the noise in combination with the alcohol was to much for him. Especially since he works on a rural ranch. That kind of noise would be difficult to deal with.

The plot thickens...
- Court records showed Kitterman had a history of relatively minor motor vehicle citations over more than a decade. More recent legal troubles involved a major bank and the Colorado Department of Revenue.
His friend, Tia Bakke, who went with him to the Broncos game, said she knew he had money problems but doubted that would have been reason for him to vanish at the game.
"If he wanted to leave town because of money problems, he would have come home, gotten all of his money and left," she told ABC News. -
This Tia Bakke bitch has something to do with it, IMO

So...
We have only the adult STEP-son's chronology. Only the STEP-son's story of where the man was headed. Only the STEP-son's story of how long he sat watching the second half, if at all.
Perhaps both STEP-son and Missing Man left the stadium together under some ruse by Sonny Boy ("I found this great bar on the Internet!"), and only ONE man returned.
Maybe STEP-son convinced Missing Man to leave his cell-phone ("We'll have mine!") and credit card ("We'll have mine!") at home.

If only my parents would disappear whenever I worked a gloryhole at a stadium!!
by Anonymous | reply 111 | October 28, 2014 9:45 PM |
I think he's recently out of rehab. Often addicts have to ditch their phones and and/or get new phone numbers so they won't be contacted (or be tempted to contact) their drug dealers. If he's being monitored to maintain his sobriety, he might be on a tight leash and not permitted to carry credit cards or a lot of cash for the same reason. Available cash/credit burns a hole in their pockets and can be a temptation to relapse.
So maybe he was at the game with his $50 allowance and he just says to himself, "fuck this….beer is bullshit, I need a fix" and left on a bender.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | October 28, 2014 9:52 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 113 | October 28, 2014 9:55 PM |
His friends and family say, "He wasn't the kind of person who would purposely disappear."
But friends and family always say that.
"He wasn't the kind of boy who would kill his schoolmates."
"He wasn't the kind of man to have an affair or hidden life."
"She wasn't the kind of woman who would hurt anyone."
The kind of people who "can't be" those kind of people are usually those kind of people

[quote] Court records showed Kitterman had a history of relatively minor motor vehicle citations over more than a decade. More recent legal troubles involved a major bank and the Colorado Department of Revenue.
The clue in R105, and the puffy, red, alkie face (R15)... he's pulled a runner. Left the credit card behind because he wanted a clean break, with less chance of anyone finding him (the phone he may actually have been unattached to, but left it behind at home because -like the credit card- it's only a possible source of tracking him.)
I wouldn't expect there's any life insurance money at stake. He got in financial trouble, say no way of digging himself out, and just wants to disappear. Part-time handyman work for a ranch... it's not like he's leaving much behind.
by Anonymous | reply 128 | October 29, 2014 1:31 AM |
He works on a ranch, and is in the sun and the wind. That could also be the reason for the red face.
by Anonymous | reply 129 | October 29, 2014 1:35 AM |
Yes, R128, but why do it in the middle of a football game? He could have disappeared any time and at least had a vehicle and clothes.

I think that the police withholding the specifics of the employee at the stadium who saw Paul Kitterman is interesting. What were the circumstances that made this employee remember specifically that they saw Paul? The police are tight lipped on the specifics of this interaction and I would like to know why.

Another post from WS, and I totally agree:
"I have seen this many times on cases I follow on WS. People ask and beg for help and then they don't give any information when people are no longer needed. In this case, they aren't even giving the information that he has been found okay! Most people only want something simple- "He is back home, he needed a minute away, we are so happy he is back" kind of thing. My fear is that people will start revolting and calling this man all sorts of things soon, with no information. It happens every time. I hope they throw the tiny bone that is needed to spare the family a lot of heartache. I am not saying it is right, I am just saying it happens every single time too little info is given to the public after the entire country has been engaged to care and help."

[quote]but why do it in the middle of a football game? He could have disappeared any time and at least had a vehicle and clothes.
Because he wanted to create a cloud of mystery to distract from a planned disappearance? Because some people who intentionally disappear into obscurity like a bit of a grand gesture to break from their old life? Because he didn't want to turn suspicion toward those close to him? Because if it was something he planned or even did on the spur of the moment, he knew that a car, clothes, phone, and credit card were anchors to old old life - and means of tracking or identifying him?
There are lots of reasons why his thinking might have leaned in one direction or another - take the car, leave the car; take money, make it look like he disappeared with only incidental pocket money... Of course I'm just speculating as others have done. What's likely is the mystery, once solved, will be a let-down to speculators of all stripes.

So he conveniently transitioned into this "fugue state" just as his two friends went back to their seats and his son went into the restroom, leaving him alone waiting outside the restroom? Nope, I don't think so. He saw an opportunity to bolt and he did just that. Was probably on a bender for the past few days, there were thousands at the football game, not a stretch to imagine one of them was from Pueblo and that is how he ended up there.
He has been put up in a hotel in Pueblo for the night. Doesn't sound like he has any emergent medical conditions to me.

by Anonymous | reply 186 | October 29, 2014 5:39 AM |
Until I saw that he had been found alive (count me as another one getting all his information about this from DL), I was going to suggest that he DID have life insurance with someone other than the stepson as the beneficiary (to remove suspicion) and that he disappeared so that he could be declared dead, collect the money and split it/share it with whomever. How long does one have to be missing to collect? Six years or so? That might not be too long to wait for a large amount of money. And the stepson was in on it, of course.
by Anonymous | reply 187 | October 29, 2014 6:04 AM |
R186, Some people "go missing" and end up miles away from their starting point. They cannot explain how they spent the last several hours, or if they've eaten anything. Their memory loss may be so severe that they don't remember their name or other basic info. Causes are extreme stress, trauma, or a more serious medical issue.

[quote]One of the theories about the Lizzie Borden murders is that she committed them in a "fugue state". Can someone explain what that is?
A fugue is a common phenomena that most of us have experienced at once time or another.
Here's a good example. Have you ever driven your car somewhere and once you get there, say "I don't remember driving here. Did I stop at all the stop signs? Did I run any red lights?" It occurs when you are intensely thinking about something else and your day to day activities (in this case driving a car) go on "autopilot."
This last usually less than 30 minutes, most people have experienced something similar but it is almost always only a few minutes to less than a half an hour.
Very rarely a fugue state will last days or weeks or years. Most times when people claim a fugue it is not so. They will fail confirmation tests yet repeatedly deny knowing.
A fugue is a state that has NO PHYSICAL causes. For instance, a minor stroke or getting beat up and hit on the head, can cause memory loss but those are physical conditions not a fugue.

Since pot is legal in CO, maybe he had a really potent brownie or something. A few bites of one of those edibles can really put you out if you're not careful.
One time I was high off brownies I couldn't move my arms or speak. I was partying with friends and my boyfriend visited and kept asking me what was wrong...why wasn't I talking to him. He ended up saying "I guess I'm not welcome at this party" and left while I was just sitting there, high as fuck.
That wouldn't explain why he disappeared during the game, but it might explain why it's been five days since they'd heard from him.
Last night Nancy Grace was all concerned for him...I'll bet she's going to skewer his ass tonight. I can't wait....
by Anonymous | reply 209 | October 29, 2014 3:55 PM |
Another reason why the family is loathe to comment:
because they are embarassed that this guy didn't / doesn't give two flying fucks about their well being.
while his step son was taking a piss, he decided he didn't want to be there anymore and just fucking left without telling anyone.
and then when he was found, didn't fucking even think that he did anything wrong to anyone.
The family, after repeatedly saying what a nice and reliable guy he is, is now publically faced with the truth of their ill conceived delusions.
by Anonymous | reply 210 | October 29, 2014 3:57 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 215 | October 29, 2014 4:07 PM |
The man sounds like a low-functioning person of limited intelligence, possibly with substance abuse problems, probably with some mental health problems, who became disoriented and wandered off.
Who knows, there may have been more to it. He may have had a small stroke or he may have some early form of dementia. Or maybe he was just drunker/higher than his friends realized.
I think the reason the family said that this was out of character was because they were genuinely concerned and were afraid that if they said otherwise, the police & public wouldn't take it seriously enough.
by Anonymous | reply 216 | October 29, 2014 4:07 PM |
Please R214. Not the plane story. It's like conjuring up Bloody Mary when you mention that plane around here.
Welp looks like he's slow in the head & wandered off. Nothing more to see here.
by Anonymous | reply 217 | October 29, 2014 4:10 PM |
Here's my theory:
I think he's in love with that woman friend who brought her bf along. Maybe he got pissed having to watch her fawn all over the bf and then got even more irritated when he didn't get to sit with her. He's not really into football, so maybe he only accepted the invitation because he was going to get to spend time with her. So, when he didn't even get to sit with her he stomped off.

Mitigating the situation that he's a complete selfish asshole who left without giving two fucks. If he harbored a crush on the woman and had his feelings hurt, this would mitigate the scenario that he didn't care about any of the people he went to the game with.
I could forgive someone who was hurt and left because they were hurt.
I couldn't forgive someone who just left because they don't give a fuck.

Paul Kitterman slept among trees during 110-mile trek outside Denver:
This is hilarious, really.
"Sgt. Eric Gonzales of the Pueblo, Colo., Police Department told the New York Daily News that Kitterman “decided to go for a walk” south of the stadium in Denver and took his Broncos hat off during his five days off the grid because he didn’t want to be recognized."

No, me neither. So maybe he's unemployed now, too.
Unless he had the good on the ranch owners....in that case they can just dispose of him and maybe bury him on the back forty.

Ok, so I get that he "had his fill of football". however, HITCH HIKING and walking over 100 miles to get away from it? And not telling anyone? Saying he didn't want to be recognized? That's not a simple "I'm sick of this shit, I'm going home" attitude.
Something doesn't add up.
He *was* recognized and the tip called in is what led the cops to find him. How fucking long would he have been gone, had no one found him out? How did he survive 5 days with no $ and/or credit cards? He was obviously planning on staying away and not being found.
What a piece of shit. Seriously.

Lots of people on the edges of society run off and either disappear or show up again later.
The only reason this story got any coverage at all was because the man was at a major sports event when he disappeared.

This sounds like my partner's father when he was in the first stages of dementia. He would disappear for hours and we would be frantic until we would get a phone call from the police or a neighbor asking us to come and fetch him. When we asked him why he left, it was always a vague reason such as he heard his dog barking and he went to look for him (of course, his dog had been dead for years) or he need to purchase something and he couldn't find what he wanted.
Don't be too hard on the guy. I bet he's starting to slip.

He's just retarded. That's why he doesn't have a cellphone or credit cards. His stepson's mother is probably a toothless tweaker (or a dead weaker) and the family who owns the ranch probably looks after the poor FAS son as well as his tard stepfather. He's obviously not wrapped too tightly to begin with. The poor stepson has been raised by this doofus. There's a whole underworld out there of people living on the fringes of society, barely making it. The guy and the stepson are lucky they have a place to live, thanks to the ranch owners, who are probably real Christians who look after these two poor souls, as opposed to the usual fake Christians who try to mess other people's lives up. The guy who pulled the disappearing act is a marginal person without a lick of sense .... and maybe with a naughty streak. The stepson will probably end up in a Salvation Army center himself if the ranch owners die.

Pueblo is a town of illegals. While it was the second largest Colorado city in 1960, since then it declined into the Cleveland of Colorado.
Colorado Springs left it in the dust, as did Grand Junction, Fort Collins and a host of Denver suburbs like Aurora.
What's left in Pueblo is just a bunch of old illegal Mexicans.
So it's obvious the guy went there to get some homosexual Mexican love on the down low, from illegals who prostitute their uncut, smelly cocks.

R288, The police aren't going to recoup any money from the guy. He's a marginal person with mental deficits. The media realized what the man was after he was found. He's not a criminal, he's not dangerous and he wasn't confused. There are millions of people like him wandering around the country. This guy just happens to have a somewhat-mentally-deficient young man living with him who got scared and asked for help. I doubt the young man is his "stepson." He's probably a throwaway child from one of the hookers the old man screws when he gets a chance. He had a place to stay and let the kid move in with him.
When the media realized this man is a harmless, aimless, socially marginal goober, they backed away because it's a rather pathetic, tawdry story. It really is kind of Steinbeckian. The old guy saw a chance to take off on a binge for some pussy and hard liquor and he took it. The young man didn't realize the old guy had certain predilections and that he didn't give a fuck whether or not he was inconveniencing anyone else.
I remember watching a Frontline episode on coroners in America (an excellent episode on the PBS app if you haven't seen it). It started out with the body of a man found in a body of water. If he'd been found a few yards downstream, his body would have been retrieved in another county with a morgue, a coroner who was a dr, etc. As it was, the body was in a county without those things and was taken to a shed with a lightbulb in it, examined and quickly buried (or cremated, I can't remember) because there was no refrigeration available. It turned out to be the father of basketball player Michael Jordan. The thing is, Jordan's father used to take off for weeks at a time and go traveling around. This time, the family said he'd taken off for a funeral. They weren't alarmed when he didn't return home immediately. Because there are lots of guys like this. They take off. They get itchy feet. They go on a bender, they go after a woman. They eventually turn up (unless they get murdered because they do dumb things like pull off onto the side of the road to sleep off a bender, like Jordan's father did).
I think the media isn't covering this because everyone knows that the guy just took off on a tear and they don't want to embarrass the poor stepson who is probably fragile. They don't want to put that poor soul on tv and have him look like a jackass. "Are you glad your somewhat stepfather was found in a Salvation Army center hundreds of miles away from home? Are you happy to hear he just decided on the spur of the moment to go see an old lady love of his far away from the stadium where he left you without any warning?"
Come on.....

***‘Breakdown’ led to missing Broncos fan’s 112-mile trek***
The family of formerly missing Broncos fan Paul Kitterman are trying to understand the reasoning behind his disappearance.
Kitterman’s hometown paper, The Grand Gazette, posted the latest update from the family.
“They report that Paul is exhausted and in a fragile state, both physically and mentally,” the update reads.
“At this time, even family and friends do not have the whole story. They are respecting Paul’s wishes for personal space and time to process the events of the past five days.”
The family told NBC in Denver they believe he had some sort of breakdown and he will be seeking medical help, but did not offer any more details.
The report added he bought new clothes to avoid detection.
“People that didn’t know Paul are worried about Paul because it’s just so abnormal and even though we found him and he’s alive and everything … it’s still extremely uncharacteristic of Paul,” said Tia Bakki, a friend who got Kitterman tickets to the game and was also in attendance.
Kitterman vanished from last Thursday’s Broncos-Chargers game in Denver, and the alarmed family used the public to help find him. Kitterman was eventually seen outside a K-Mart in Pueblo, 112 miles south of Sports Authority Field.
Police said Kitterman slept in wooded areas, walking and hitchhiking on the four-day trip.
“He (Kitterman) made comments that he ditched his Broncos hat because he didn’t want to be recognized,” Sgt. Eric Gonzalez told NBC.

Of course the family is going to say "we think he had a nervous breakdown" and "we are seeking medical help for him because this is just not like him". What else would you expect them to say? "Paul used us to transport him to Denver, then hitched his way to Pueblo to indulge himself with more booze and to try to get some ass. He left without telling us so we had no idea where he was... we contacted law enforcement who then wasted valuable time and resources helping us track him down. Paul's disappearance made headlines around the country. When Paul was found, safe and coherent, in brand new clean clothes, he told the police the truth...that he wanted to get away. He also made several statements indicating behavior that he did in order to avoid recognition. So to sum it up, we made asses of ourselves and put a man who just wanted to be left alone under a national microscope and now he is probably annoyed and embarrassed at having to explain himself to the entire country. We look like idiots now. So to avoid looking even more idiotic, we are going to deflect the blame on him, making it appear that he is mentally deficient or just plain crazy."
If this family is smart they will just shut up and let the whole situation fade away.
