Russia's war mongering

They have a submarine in Swedish waters. It's as if want to start a war.

Calm down, Chicken Little. There's no way in hell Russia is threatening war with Sweden or any other Western European nation.

by Anonymousreply 1October 19, 2014 2:10 PM

OMG thank you OP. I can't believe you actually started this thread for me. This should be interesting.

by Anonymousreply 2October 19, 2014 2:12 PM

Don't piss your knees!

by Anonymousreply 3December 2, 2014 3:36 PM

Wtf is your problem R3?

by Anonymousreply 4December 2, 2014 3:39 PM

God knows those Swedes have notoriously itchy trigger fingers.

by Anonymousreply 5December 2, 2014 3:40 PM

Sweden and Finland are both on full alert over Russia's provocations.

The really sad thing about this thread is that Put1n's paid Internet task force will soon swoop down on this thread - yes, even though it's a gay gossip sites; they still have google alerts - and embark on a full-scale disinformation war, just as they did over any Sochi threads and any Ukraine threads. It's got so bad at the Guardian website that the editors often don't allow comments on the articles any more. All Put1nista options and policies are defended, including extremist anti-gay policies. Check out the most recent comments on Pussy Riot for a good example of this.

[quote]They have a submarine in Swedish waters.

Don't worry, the Swedes are safe. Russia still needs an Allen wrench for their sub.

by Anonymousreply 8December 2, 2014 3:53 PM

Why do you think gas prices are so low? We helped overthrow the guy in Ukraine and tried to put our guy in charge. The Russians decided no, that's not how it would go. They put their own guy in charge and moved tanks into parts of Ukraine.

Ukraine wants to join NATO. We want Ukraine to join NATO. It would be a -- pardon the expression -- coup, to get a country within the Russian Federation to leave the federation and be our listening post so close to Russia.

We tell Russia to get tanks out of Ukraine, Russia says fuck you bitches, we'll cut off oil supplies to Western Europe. America says to its allies, "Start producing scads more oil every day. We'll have plenty of oil to sell to Europe. And we'll sell it for less money than Rusdia does, because there will be a surplus. This will in turn destabilise the Russian economy."

Which is why gas is less than $3 a gallon today.

by Anonymousreply 9December 2, 2014 3:53 PM

EBOLA!

by Anonymousreply 10December 2, 2014 3:58 PM

I'm sure they're not too worried about it. Russia's armed forces are in shambles and their equipment is falling apart. Unless they plan to launch a nuclear war, they are a spent force conventionally.

by Anonymousreply 11December 2, 2014 4:00 PM

Sweden is a neutral country and not part of NATO. Notice the Russians don't try this shit with Norway or Britian.

by Anonymousreply 12December 2, 2014 4:14 PM

This is nothing new.

They have been buzzing the Brits with their bombers, r12.

by Anonymousreply 14December 2, 2014 4:40 PM

And Putin defenders like R9 pop up right on cue. You asshole, Russia INVADED Ukraine. Oh, and shot down a passenger jet on a whim.

by Anonymousreply 15December 2, 2014 6:10 PM

R12 See link at R7 (and that's not the only time)

by Anonymousreply 16December 2, 2014 6:13 PM

Putin seems like he is a bit crazy to me. I read once that the Russians thought Reagan was crazy and were afraid he'd start WWIII on a whim.

Question for DLers: is Putin crazy, or does he project that image in order to manipulate the West?

That's how WWI started. Everybody thought that the other guy would blink, and nobody blinked.

by Anonymousreply 17December 2, 2014 6:16 PM

R17 Is that George V or George W?

by Anonymousreply 18December 2, 2014 6:41 PM

I am Curious George, R18.

by Anonymousreply 22April 7, 2015 9:10 PM

Can you believe the way those Russian war-mongers are trying to subvert Obama's peace talks so they can bomb Iran? Oh, wait. That's Israel and the Republicans.

by Anonymousreply 23April 7, 2015 9:15 PM

They've always had subs near Sweden. Russia is only asserting what is rightfully theirs. The part of Ukraine don't want to be part of Ukraine.

It's right they should be let go.

After all Kosovo was part of Serbia for centuries. Then the Kosovans didn't want to be. So Bill Clinton bombed Serbia (then rump Yugoslavia) and forced Serbia out of what was and still is internationally recognized Serbian territory.

Of course when you have war mongering Democrats it's fine. When it's the West it's fine.

by Anonymousreply 24April 7, 2015 9:37 PM

OP-

Russia is surrounded, on all sides, by NATO bases and nuclear subs. Your neocon is showing.

Propaganda works so well on the simple minded.

by Anonymousreply 25April 7, 2015 9:53 PM

Russia isn't providing weapons to Mexico.

The U.S. is giving weapons to Ukraine.

How does that make Russia the aggressive party?

by Anonymousreply 26April 13, 2015 5:53 AM

Although Crimeans are not opposed to joining Russia, the majority of the residents of the Donbas, most of whom are ethnically Ukrainian, do not support joining Russia.

The U.S. has not given Ukraine weapons. Russia is the aggressive party because it invaded Crimea, and killed Ukrainian soldiers (2) in that invasion, and have ferried troops and equipment across the border for Donbas. There is now also a pile of evidence in the Netherlands' investigation of MH17 that the missile that brought that plane down was Russian, shot by Russian troops.

by Anonymousreply 27April 13, 2015 6:00 AM

R27-

Proof Russia invaded any part of Ukraine, even Crimea, would be front page news.

Your belief in government propaganda is astounding.

What about Victoria Nuland?

by Anonymousreply 28April 13, 2015 6:40 AM

R27-

Explain this.

R29, so after Yanukovych flees Ukraine, when members of his own Party of Regions, vote to have him impeached because of the shootings on Euromaidan, the U.S. steps in to help broker a deal on interim leaders. It doesn't prove anything.

You should stop listening to Russian propaganda.

by Anonymousreply 33April 14, 2015 3:40 AM

You're the moron.

I know Ukrainians who fought in Donbas. If the U.S. has given Ukraine weapons, the soldiers fighting the war certainly are unaware of it.

by Anonymousreply 34April 14, 2015 5:41 AM

I read an interview few weeks ago of a Russian journalist who lives in Finland. She recently visited her family in Russia and said she was astonished of the opinions completely normal and educated Russians have. They seriously think that other countries are so jealous of Russia's superiority that everybody wants to invade Russia. Comments from my fellow Finns who read the article were fun to read since everyone (except the Putin's trolls) were so gobsmacked of the absolute ridiculousness of people being envious of Russians.

Loads of educated people are leaving the country. One Russian software developer who also works in Finland said that third of his classmates from his old Russian school have moved abroad.

Unfortunately Russian people don't read English and so the Putin controlled media can say what they want. It seems that they believe everything Putin says, or if they don't completely agree then at least they just keep their opinions to themselves. Russians have not heard of the huge amounts of money Putin and his people have collected through the years and stashed abroad. They really think that NATO wants to invade Russia when in fact its function in Europe is to protect countries from Russia.

Now that Russia is running out of money due to Putin's regime's poor leadership there is a risk the war mongering in Russia will get even worse. They might attack neighboring countries just to keep Putin in power. I've read that Russian media publishes constantly articles that blame neighboring countries for all kinds of things. One favorite subject is how the evil countries take Russian children in custody. It's especially silly when you consider how absolutely terrible children's rights are in Russia.

Putin's troll army, like R20, are constantly feeding misinformation around the web. They are disgusting.

by Anonymousreply 35April 14, 2015 6:22 AM

I think it was just today (Monday) that it was announced Russia was selling (for a hefty sum) some very powerful anti-missile defense things, so effective and mobile, that they have probably made it nearly impossible for the U.S. to attack Iran, without massive losses. Which may mean they can proceed with their nuclear plans without fear of the sites being taken out?

There were two powers keeping Iran in check before the W. Iraq and Afghanistan's Taliban. And we've neutralized both. I think it's time for a Russian-Iranian superpower takeover. Though I'm not sure why that's a bigger problem for us, way over here, than it is for Europe. Take it away, Angie. Your turn at bat.

by Anonymousreply 36April 14, 2015 6:43 AM

The missile defense system that Russia is selling Iran is known as the "S-300"

R35, Which country do you think is in danger of a future attack from Russia?

Please elaborate why Russian children have no rights.

by Anonymousreply 38April 14, 2015 2:15 PM

R38: Putin's troll army.

by Anonymousreply 39April 14, 2015 2:31 PM

R39, Since R35 implied Putin's war mongering was an intentional distraction from his own economic mismanagement, I'm asking which country he thought was vulnerable to a possible Russian takeover. I'd assumed Putin was staying out of the Mid East and particularly ISIL's conflicts. However rumors are that Russia's and/or the former Soviet block countries' mob leaders are helping to supply weapons.

by Anonymousreply 40April 14, 2015 2:53 PM

Russia is a huge troll of a country.

I guess it's the only thing they can be proud of.

"Yeah, we're the biggest trolls in the world!"

RAF Sends Jets As Russia Planes Near UK Airspace.

WTF?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 47April 15, 2015 12:37 AM

This is how wars start.

On the other hand, NATO and Russia have been doing this for 65 years, with occasional screw-ups, like when the USSR shot down the Korean civilian commercial airplane in the 1980s. I always wondered if that jet was also taking photos or otherwise spying on the USSR. There was also the very recent passenger flight shot down over Ukraine by Russian supplied Ukraine rebels.

by Anonymousreply 48April 15, 2015 12:55 AM

A good article on the missile defense deal between Russian and Iran (and Israel's take on this development.)

When NATO flirted with letting Ukraine join, I really think it was taken as a severe provocation (by the Kremlin) or even an "act of war", which I believe is how they described it (if Ukraine became a NATO member)

That's partly where this shit is coming from.

Russia will always be paranoid about its borders. It was defeated in 1906 by Japan! And invaded in the 1800s by Napoleon, there was the Crimean War with England, then Hitler invaded...

by Anonymousreply 50April 16, 2015 10:06 PM

Why didn't we invite them to join NATO? If they were willing to accept current borders, etc. Too late now, but it would have been enough to cause the Russian leadership's heads to explode. If that's what we're trying to accomplish.

by Anonymousreply 51April 16, 2015 10:12 PM

Short answer: too many old people still hate the Russkies.

Longer answer by: Richard Haass, president of the Council on Foreign Relations, before which he was Director of Policy Planning at the Bush/Powell State Department, and Ian Brzezinski, son of Zbig.

HAASS: “Look, it’s a great question. The issue did come up at various times. I, at one point, to be honest, advocated it. I wrote a memo when I was the head of policy planning – so this was not under H.W. Bush, but George W. Bush, the 43rd president — suggesting that this was something that we could (do) for two reasons.”

“One is I didn’t think it would really impair the functioning of NATO, as we just discussed. I think NATO had already become, if you will, what I described as an a la carte relationship. So it wasn’t all or nothing. Coalitions of the willing had increasingly become the norm. And, second of all, I thought it would take some of the sting out of NATO enlargement and it would remove the argument that the post-war order was somehow built against Russia. So it would take away the kind of humiliation or rant we heard the other day from France and Putin.”

REHM: “And why was the suggestion denied”?

HAASS: “Those who doubted the wisdom of it, besides the possibility that Russia might not accept, which was a side argument, worried that it would impair the continuing military effectiveness of NATO, that Russia, essentially as an insider, would become obstructive and would work against NATO’s continuing viability.”

How many military bases does Russia have in Canada, Mexico, and Cuba?

Zero.

by Anonymousreply 60May 31, 2015 9:29 PM

Russia should supply tactical nukes to the Iranians for their own self-protection against Israel. That way you'd have a regional power with the ability to fully stand up to the Jews. And the best thing about it is they'd both use the nukes if push came to shove. P

Then we'd be rid of the Israelis and the Iranians.
