***BREAKING*** ERIC HOLDER RESIGNS AS ATTORNEY GENERAL!

Attorney General Eric Holder will resign, a Justice Department official tells ABC News.

Holder was the nation's first African-American attorney general.

According to the official, "Attorney General Holder has discussed his plans personally with the president on multiple occasions in recent months, and finalized those plans in an hour-long conversation with the president at the White House residence over Labor Day weekend.

"At a formal announcement later today, the attorney general plans to express his personal gratitude to the President for the opportunity to serve in his administration and to lead the Justice Department, which he will call the 'greatest honor of my professional life.' He will note he has loved the Justice Department since, when he was a boy, he watched how, under Attorney General Kennedy, the Department played a leadership role in advancing the civil rights movement. During his tenure as Attorney General, Holder has had Attorney General Kennedy’s portrait in his conference room."

Well, I certainly didn't expect that. Thought he was a full-termer. He's lasted longer than most.

by Anonymousreply 1September 25, 2014 3:04 PM

Why?

by Anonymousreply 2September 25, 2014 3:08 PM

Holder says that he'll stay on until a successor is confirmed.

The way the Senate works now (or I should say doesn't work now) maybe no one will be confirmed.

Hey, it could happen!

by Anonymousreply 3September 25, 2014 3:14 PM

Teabagistan is dancing in the streets over this. Such stupid, stupid people.

by Anonymousreply 4September 25, 2014 3:21 PM

Didn't he say he was looking to leave?

by Anonymousreply 5September 25, 2014 3:24 PM

r1=Sarah Palin

by Anonymousreply 6September 25, 2014 3:24 PM

R4: Your comment makes no sense. You must be that one-note poster who needs to fill any political thread with bizarre rants against the Right when it's not even the topic. The Attorney General resigns for reasons unknown and you post some failing attempt at wit. Who is dancing in the streets? I realize you need to share "Teabagistan" and have tried hard to find a way to work it into dl, but stop. It's sad. If you were witty it would be one thing, but you try too hard and it fails.

by Anonymousreply 7September 25, 2014 3:30 PM

Well said, R4!

by Anonymousreply 8September 25, 2014 3:33 PM

Stop trying to make teabagistan happen Gretchen at R4. It's not going to happen

by Anonymousreply 9September 25, 2014 3:35 PM

So r7 do you actually think the right isn't going to be k'velling over this?

by Anonymousreply 10September 25, 2014 3:35 PM

So long to bad rubbish.

by Anonymousreply 11September 25, 2014 3:36 PM

What the Hell are you talking about, r7? I went to news sites (including the one linked in this thread) and all the responses are from Teabaggers talking repeating the typical Fox News talking points about Holder. Sheesh.

by Anonymousreply 12September 25, 2014 3:37 PM

It has to be a scandal. It wouldn't make sense otherwise.

by Anonymousreply 13September 25, 2014 3:39 PM

All together now, hey hey hey...goodbye! nah nah nah nah!

by Anonymousreply 14September 25, 2014 3:51 PM

Benghazi! Benghazi! Conspiracy! We want answers!!!

Sarcasm, of course

by Anonymousreply 15September 25, 2014 3:54 PM

I smell Vice Presidential candidate and SECOND Black President!

by Anonymousreply 16September 25, 2014 3:58 PM

R9, it already did happen. Use google to see, dumbass.

Are you too stupid to know that the teabaggers have the same mentality as the Taliban and everyone has known it for years?

by Anonymousreply 17September 25, 2014 3:58 PM

It would be even more delicious if Kerry Stepped down and appointed Holder SOS.

by Anonymousreply 18September 25, 2014 4:00 PM

Make "Teabagistan" happen? Double sheesh. It's just a silly little made-up word that you immediately recognized as referring to the group of idiots I meant. Oy.

by Anonymousreply 19September 25, 2014 4:02 PM

The New Yorker profiled Holder in February and he said then that he planned to leave sometime this year.

by Anonymousreply 20September 25, 2014 4:03 PM

The second year of the second Presidential term is the traditional time for staffers to leave. It's the best time to find a good job.

His leaving has nothing to do with anything but tradition.

by Anonymousreply 21September 25, 2014 4:09 PM

And exhaustion with right-wing idiots. Seriously, that shit must get freaking OLD!

by Anonymousreply 22September 25, 2014 10:18 PM

Obama needs to appoint someone with BALLS to go after Wall St. bankers and securities firms. Holder wouldn't do it and Elizabeth Warren had not received any support from him. Good riddance!

by Anonymousreply 23September 25, 2014 10:37 PM

Fab-U-lous. Goodbye dullwood. Excuse darlings but I simply must go tinka tinka tee .......

by Anonymousreply 24September 26, 2014 12:08 AM

He must be exhausted from going after all those Wall Street bankers who belonged in jail.

by Anonymousreply 25September 26, 2014 12:15 AM

Good riddance to an incompetent racist piece of shit.

Oh, and the Rev Al claims he's helping Obama pick the next Attorney General.

GAG

by Anonymousreply 26September 26, 2014 12:18 AM

LMAO, R16.

Maybe in Holder's lame fantasies.

by Anonymousreply 27September 26, 2014 12:22 AM

It should have happened sooner.

by Anonymousreply 28September 26, 2014 12:37 AM

[quote]Rev Al

Oh, stop with that shit. Rev is not his first name. He's fucking Al Sharpton.

by Anonymousreply 29September 26, 2014 12:06 PM

[quote] Obama needs to appoint someone with BALLS to go after Wall St. bankers and securities firms.

What makes you think it was Holder's, or even Obama's, lack of balls that prevented them from going after the Wall St. bankers? Rather than simple cronyism?

by Anonymousreply 30September 27, 2014 12:39 AM

His mission has been accomplished..turning the DOJ into a chapter of the NAACP.

by Anonymousreply 31September 27, 2014 12:57 AM

(29) Who can forget those immortal words of Sharpton in Ferguson "he(Brown) was not stealing, he was shoplifting." One can see and hear more of his nonsense on MSNBC. Looks like the headhunters got a hold of his head..

by Anonymousreply 32September 27, 2014 12:59 AM

Resigned or reassigned?

by Anonymousreply 33September 27, 2014 1:02 AM

On Diane Rehm this morning, one of the reporters said his doctor wife was worried about his health after something happened a few months ago. He apparently signaled months ago that he'd be leaving. He needed to do it so Obama could nominate someone before the election.

by Anonymousreply 34September 27, 2014 1:08 AM

Good riddance to bad rubbish.

by Anonymousreply 35September 27, 2014 1:23 AM

Pat Fitzgerald would sail through a Senate confirmation. Plus he's BFF of Comey.

He HATES Wall Street.

by Anonymousreply 36September 27, 2014 1:26 AM

dag who gonna keeps the dreems alive in fuguson missouri?

by Anonymousreply 37September 27, 2014 1:33 AM

Obama wanted Kamala Harris, the State Attorney General of California, to take it but she turned him down in a heartbeat. She's half black and half Indian (the country, NOT Native American).

by Anonymousreply 38September 27, 2014 6:16 AM

WTF R29. Good God.

by Anonymousreply 39September 27, 2014 6:19 AM

I pointed out to several people today and I'm going to do it here as well - the majority of the coverage in papers, on television, on the Internet and even scrawled on toilet walls is about the reaction of the Right Wing to Holder's resignation.

Almost noting about Holder's resignation.

My observation did not register with anyone I spoke with, and it won't register in the DL either.

by Anonymousreply 40September 27, 2014 9:01 AM

My guess is Holder got wind of trouble on the horizon from Congress and he decided to hot foot it out of Dodge before it erupted.

by Anonymousreply 41September 27, 2014 12:00 PM

The Right is dancing in the streets I agree. Holder is one of the bright spots in this administration. I have always been a fan of his. I wish Obama would appoint him to the Supreme Court where he can be a thorn in the ass to Scalia, Thomas and Alito.

This is a huge loss to the administration. Holder was a stand up guy. He was a spur to the President. Without Holder to push him, he won't be as strong. There. I've said it.

by Anonymousreply 42September 27, 2014 12:13 PM

Holder is a political hack who has damaged the integrity of the office of AG and the entire DOJ.

by Anonymousreply 43September 27, 2014 12:49 PM

[quote]Obama needs to appoint someone with BALLS to go after Wall St. bankers and securities firms.

Don't hold your breath.

Wall St. no doubt shovels money into both parties. That money buys major influence.

by Anonymousreply 44September 27, 2014 12:51 PM

As far as Wall Street goes Holder wanted a piece of them real bad. I know this for a fact. He wanted to charge in and nail them. Problem? A lot of what they did was legal. He was determined to make it stick, not just rattle his saber. if you bring charges and they beat the rap, it weakens your political position in terms of reform laws.

The whores in Congress don't get nearly enough blame for what happened in 2007,08,09,10. The other problem is that the politics weren't on his side. While it would've given a lot of us enormous satisfaction to see Jamie Dimond and others do the perp walk, alienating the financial institutions at a time when we needed to project financial stability to the world was, in the opinion of many, (not me) ill advised.

by Anonymousreply 45September 27, 2014 4:39 PM

He was going to be outted and he left first.

by Anonymousreply 46September 27, 2014 6:14 PM

He was one sided, selective & a pussy. Goodbye !

This makes Holder available to become a Supreme Court nominee.

by Anonymousreply 48September 28, 2014 4:05 PM

R45 - what?

Your claim is investment firms have paid billions of dollars in fines because they didn't do anything illegal?

by Anonymousreply 49September 28, 2014 4:18 PM

R26, Hey Mr. K, Happy Sunday

by Anonymousreply 50September 28, 2014 4:30 PM

He's a white-hating racist cunt who pals around with Al Charlatan & calls the American ppl cowards. Good riddance.

by Anonymousreply 51September 28, 2014 5:03 PM

r47, a brilliant idea to have an actual black man on the supreme court.

We also need a fierce black, someone who could read Uncle Thomas behind closed doors.

by Anonymousreply 52September 28, 2014 5:31 PM

Maybe he just couldn't accept the bombings...we'll never know.

by Anonymousreply 53September 28, 2014 5:34 PM

read: fierce black WOMAN...

by Anonymousreply 54September 28, 2014 5:34 PM

He clearly is in love with Poz~Face Obama.

by Anonymousreply 55September 28, 2014 5:46 PM

That's a terrible thing to say !
