The lady has only had three truly great records. It looks like Confessions will be the last. I don't think she has it in her anymore.
Which sucks. I mean, even Cher pulled off a massive comeback at the age Madonna is right now.
Can she do it again?

NO

The diva-worshiping gays just need to die off. Your time is over, go away.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | August 31, 2014 10:05 AM |
R2 Thank you! I completely agree. Nothing more sad than gays who still worship female singers and call them "divas".
Try actually supporting actual gay people for fucking once. It's 2014.

With good material and with the right producers she can do it again. Of course she's already at the age where her former sexy stuff does seem a bit weird, at least to younger people. Hopefully she'll be able to transform herself again to something believable.
And I have to point out that I don't 'diva worship' Madonna. I appreciate her for her gay positive attitude, especially in the 80s/90s, and I like some of her songs. I agree that Confessions is a great album, and it's the only one with Ray of Light that I have from her.
Just because you're gay and like Madonna doesn't mean she have to be an icon to you.

When I first heard about it -- it sounded like a great idea. There are some great songs (2 or 3), but I thought it would be more fun. Is the New York song on Confessions? Case in point -- should have been so much more fun. Oh, well.

What's the #unapologetic_bitch crap she keeps posting on FB?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 31, 2014 11:09 AM |
I only have Ray of Light and Confessions. They have great production. You can hardly hear her actual voice.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 31, 2014 11:15 AM |
It's narcissistic personality disorder, R6. And she won't be maturing out of it.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 31, 2014 11:17 AM |
I loved Get Together and most of the album. Definitely one of her best.

But when has Cher received a classic album?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 31, 2014 1:47 PM |
I loved Hard Candy.

Madonna is seen as a joke and desperate. She is just attaching herself to younger, more popular younger artists to get headlines. Britney and Christina, Justin Timberlake, Nicki Minaj, Miley, now she's making headlines for dissing Lady Gaga in her new music. She is no longer a legend, but a laughingstock willing to grab onto anyone hot young and relevant to stay in the limelight. No one cares about new Madonna music except elderly aging queens, radio certainly doesn't give a fuck. She's over.

Is she still at war with her brothers? Christopher and the drunk?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 31, 2014 3:44 PM |
Christopher is DEAD to her after writing that book. So is the drunk.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 31, 2014 3:47 PM |
Except, R12, her 2012 tour stands as the 12th highest grossing tour ever.
I do agree she's kind of pathetic these days in a lot of ways, but that bitch still has fans.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 31, 2014 6:57 PM |
R5 I agree - the album isn't all that great. Like you said, only about 3 good songs on it. The rest are "meh".
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 31, 2014 9:27 PM |
"Sorry" kicked major ass, especially the remixes. Only thing of hers I liked since Bedtime Stories.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 31, 2014 9:30 PM |
Thoese hideous tights in the Hyung Up video though...
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 1, 2014 12:43 AM |
So I'm confused. Why is the track for 'Hung Up' using the same music for 'Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!' by ABBA? I've heard that it's not uncommon to rewrite songs using existing music. Anyone know anything about that? (and yes, I have no connection to the outside world, I know already.)
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 1, 2014 1:34 AM |
It's a sample, dear.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 1, 2014 1:36 AM |
R19 it's a sample and it's sort of remarkable that ABBA let her use it. They're notorious protective about their work.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 1, 2014 1:50 AM |

Yes, classy projects only.

Uh, that's generous.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 1, 2014 2:03 AM |
Of course she can so it again. Its all about the right song an the right producer. If anyone thinks she actually wrote any of her songs even though she gets a credit on many of them just think about bey and her " song credits" once you are huge you change two words of a lyric and take a credit therefore assuring you even more money.....forever when the song is covered.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 1, 2014 2:27 AM |
My Madonna listening really only made it to Ray of Light.
I listened to COAD online and didn't really care for it. Not horrible but don't see why some insist this is one of her best.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 1, 2014 2:32 AM |
I think it's one of her best because two of the greatest songs she has ever recorded are on this record. And she has only recorded about five great songs in my book.
[*]Forbidden Love [*]Get Together
Most of the other tracks are great as well. But those two are the standouts for me. (And yes, the I Love New York song is execrable.)
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 1, 2014 3:22 AM |
[quote]Not horrible but don't see why some insist this is one of her best.
I don't get it either. Most of the album is an overproduced mess with her AutoTuned vocals buried underneath layers of bass and synths.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | September 1, 2014 3:29 AM |
Agree with everyone who says Get Together is a standout. That track and Sorry are both great and should have been bigger.
For me, the album's a bit uneven. I Love New York is a truly terrible song, and Push is the worst kind of album filler. The rest ranges from good to great, though I still don't know what to make of Isaac.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | September 1, 2014 3:31 AM |
It is a hot CD and still so popular 10 years later. Everyone owns in.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | September 1, 2014 3:46 AM |

Fun Fact: Glenn Close said that she used to listen to COADF in her dressing room to prepare herself to play Patty Hewes on the Damages set.

Velvet Rope = dead people music

R34/R35 = Creepy Vadge stans who always bring up other female singers to detract from their talentless idol.
BTW, your idol Vadge said she liked The Velvet Rope album.

Velvet Rope = funereal music
by Anonymous | reply 38 | September 1, 2014 5:56 AM |
R37, I'd go as far as to say he's a red weirdo.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | September 1, 2014 7:15 AM |
I didn't care for the album either. Honestly, her last great album was Bedtime Stories. (Some would say Ray of Light, but I always found that album to be her most overrated.) Once she ditched America and became the great dame of England with a Euro-techno sound, I lost interest in her.

by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 22, 2018 6:39 PM |
I will probably get kicked off of here for saying this, but "Rebel Heart" would be a classic Madonna album (maybe even a classic album, period) with a judicious amount of editing. Cut down the 19 songs to 12, and it could be a great collection. In response to everyone who (correctly) criticizes her for trying to hard to sound young, "Rebel Heart" contains some of her most mature sounding work. She's always been better using her more natural, lower voice, and Devil Pray, Ghosttown , Joan of Arc and the title track all use it to her best advantage. Illuminati is fun and funny, and Body Shop, while going a bit OTT with the car metaphors, is a should-have-been-a-single sleeper. Living for Love never really got a fair shake. Maybe a different mix?
Unfortunately, tracks like S.E.X. , Messiah and Bitch, I'm Madonna play right into her critics hands. (I'll admit to getting Bitch I'm Madonna stuck in my head sometimes." You could also get rid of some other filler tracks, and have a seriously solid set.
Go ahead. Come at me.
