I miss Helen Slater

In the summer of 1986 all I did was lie on the couch and watch The Legend of Billie Jean.

Good times!!! Nowadays I'd be sent to some summer camp.

But OP, at that summer camp you could meet a camp counsellor that looked like Helen Slater. Or Kristy McNichol, or any other 80's VCR rewind fantasy.

She still rocks, acts, rocks, is awesome, and gorgeous.

One of the VERY few decent scenes in the film that introduced audiences to Ms. Slater.

I don't know if she has other skills, or family money, or a financially supportive spouse, but she seems to work when she wants (she's not a bad actress) and hasn't fucked her face up with botox and surgery like most desperate actresses her age. I commend her.

I COMMEND HER!

She's everywhere!

by Anonymousreply 5August 1, 2014 12:52 PM

I loved eating her out. I made Hank watch.

by Anonymousreply 6August 1, 2014 1:04 PM

Also in Ruthless People

by Anonymousreply 7August 1, 2014 3:17 PM

Was it based on Michael Jackson's Billie Jean?

by Anonymousreply 8August 1, 2014 3:37 PM

God, I miss brunch.

R3, that flying sequence is very reminiscent of the flying carpet ride ("A Whole New World") in ALADDIN, what with flying to all the corners of the earth and especially the wild horses at the end. I wonder if Disney took inspiration from this?

Funny how Hollywood keeps rebooting the Superman, Batman, XMen, Avengers, and Incredible Hulk franchises because they can't seem to get the formula right...

Yet Helen proved to be the quintessential Super Girl...making it impossible for any other actress to take on the role without ending up with her head on a spike!

by Anonymousreply 11August 1, 2014 3:58 PM

Yes, R11. That is why they haven't remade Supergirl.

Bless your heart.

Helen had to bulk up to play Supergirl.

by Anonymousreply 15August 1, 2014 7:13 PM

She was on "Smallville", playing either Clark's Kryptonian birth mother, or Kara's (Laura Van De Voort, who played "Supergirl" on that series)

"Supergirl" was an unfortunate film. But, damn, Hart Bochner was beautiful.

by Anonymousreply 16August 1, 2014 7:26 PM

Faye Dunaway made Supergirl memorable.

by Anonymousreply 17August 1, 2014 7:37 PM

No, Brenda Vacarro did.

by Anonymousreply 18August 1, 2014 7:49 PM

I was going to ask what happened to her, but checked IMDb first. I'm surprised she's been working consistently.

by Anonymousreply 19August 1, 2014 7:54 PM

She's currently on "The Young and the Restless."

by Anonymousreply 20August 1, 2014 7:55 PM

I was nine when I saw The Legend of Billie Jean the first time, My mouth dropped when she cut off her gorgeous hair. I lezzed completely out. Twenty-nine years later, I'm still lezzing out.

by Anonymousreply 21August 1, 2014 7:56 PM

R21 - Yes! Her gorgeous hair.

by Anonymousreply 22August 1, 2014 8:04 PM

God I miss Helen Shaver.

by Anonymousreply 23August 1, 2014 8:08 PM

From the same Long Island town, Massapequa as Jerry Sienfeld, The Baldwin Brothers, Steve Guttenberg, Marvin Hamlisch, Stuttering John, Dee Snider, Brian Kilmeade & The Buttafucos.

by Anonymousreply 24August 1, 2014 8:09 PM

She's aging well. She looks more Jewish as she's aged.

by Anonymousreply 25August 1, 2014 8:10 PM

I need to see Billie Jean again.

by Anonymousreply 26August 2, 2014 2:09 AM

It's bizarre ho w she pretty much fell off the map after 1991. Was she considered "difficult" or something?
