Dear Feminists (this includes libfems, radfems, terfs, fun feminists, the whole fractured lot out there…)
This may come as a surprise to many feminists out there but I have to remind them that gay men are men (or males). But from reading everything written by them it obviously appears that they don’t know this.
Feminists can bash straight men all they want. I don’t care either way. I’m not a pro-men, MRA type and I don’t or rarely see eye to eye with them. I can’t relate to straight men. They’re not part of my life and I honestly don’t find them interesting in any way, shape or form. So this is where this text is coming from.
As I read as these feminists rants and tumblr posts everywhere, feminists only see one type of men: men. In their eyes, men are one big monolithic entity with no complex variety to it. They can never make the distinction between the gay men (or even bi men) and heterosexual men.
‘For women, all men are potential rapists.’
No, gay men don’t rape women. It should therefore read as
‘For women, all heterosexual men are potential rapists.”
By not making the distinction between straight men and gay/bi men or gender fluid men, feminists repeatedly erase the existence of gay men since they don’t rape women or are for the most part not part of their problem.
This is NOT an oversight. Feminists, seething with anger, apparently see all men alike. Or they don’t see gay men, like society, as masculine or even men. They see them as effeminate, quasi-women. There are enough gay men out there for them to realize that we do exist but apparently it’s not the case. I’m sure everyone will say something like “Of course, gay men don’t rape women. When we say ‘men’ we mean straight men in general.”
But gay men are men, in general.
This lack of distinction just doesn’t wash anymore, certainly in our pc world right now where everyone is so touchy with labels. It seems gay men don’t count or they fall into a terrible blind-spot feminists don’t care to notice is clearly there.
The problem is widespread and there’s an endless number of examples on Tumblr and on the internet but I’ll choose just a few examples to demonstrate my point:
“I’m so angry that the sex-pos movement is encouraging women - who already experience internalised misogyny and learned submission - to celebrate sexualised inequality and to embrace their internalisation of female sexual masochism as “empowerment.” It’s so manipulative and scary and disgusting. And men are fucking loving it.”
It should actually read : “And **straight** men are fucking loving it.”
—
“what better proof of patriarchys existence is there than women that claim to be “empowered” by giving men boners.” should read as:
“what better proof of patriarchys existence is there than women that claim to be “empowered” by giving **straight** men boners.”
——
Instead of using only ‘men’ you can use:
straight men str8 men strhate men heterosexual men het men whatever… but don’t just use ‘men’ ‘kay?
So, in closing, feminists you can bash straight men with all your heart’s content, I don’t care, but please don’t lump gay men, heck even bi and gender fluid men, into the same simplistic monolithic all-encompassing ‘men’ category in your writings. Please make sure there’s a distinction: i.e. gay men don’t rape women! It makes you all appear clueless, inline with patriarchy’s definition of masculinity, insensitive to the existence of gay men, who, in the end, are men too.
