I feel like answers such as Pitt or Prince are panic responses. It's typically women that ask this of straight men, and it's phrased like a trick question. The dudes fear they will appear boring, outmoded or intolerant if they reply that there is no man alive they'd sleep with, so in their panic to supply an answer, they'll reach for the quickest male celebrity name they can think of that multitudes of straight women salivate over, as a way of showing common ground, and to ensure their answer doesn't seem too specific or considered. If they supply a name not in the Top Ten of the world's sexiest man of the current year, a straight woman is going to pry some more. It's pure face-saving.

There is also a case for the nonsexual hero worship a lot of men feel to certain others.
