"The Last Ship"

New series about a ship in a world where an epidemic has swept the world killing almost everyone.

Anyone going to watch it?

by Anonymousreply 94November 12, 2018 10:01 PM

Sounds much more interesting than that Sting musical of the same name.

by Anonymousreply 1June 22, 2014 11:08 PM

The Last Shit: The Story of Elvis Presley

by Anonymousreply 2June 22, 2014 11:12 PM

Anyone watch?

I was a bit underwhelmed... dunno if I'll stick with it.

by Anonymousreply 3June 23, 2014 4:41 AM

What was that doctor looking for again? It was kind of confusing. Who attacked the ship?

Was the soldier who killed himself with the other soldier friend of his? The white dude seemed pretty upset and he was given the flag....

I need to watch again and actually pay attention.

:)

by Anonymousreply 4June 23, 2014 4:58 AM

I'm not sure it will help much.

by Anonymousreply 5June 23, 2014 5:01 AM

Is that the one from Michael Bay? If so I avoid everything he does...

by Anonymousreply 6June 23, 2014 5:43 AM

I thought it was cool and definitely has potential. Most pilots are a bit underdeveloped but this thing could be very intriguing as the episodes progress. I'm in!

by Anonymousreply 7June 23, 2014 5:44 AM

Is Eric Dane on this? he's good looking

by Anonymousreply 8June 23, 2014 6:12 AM

omg, The Queen Mary 1

by Anonymousreply 9June 23, 2014 7:11 AM

I can't imagine why the break-away Russian helicopters (where did they come from? How did they zero in on the scientists) would want to kill the team obviously trying to find a clue and a cure for the epidemic raging world-wide...

Even if you thought they were at FAULT, and CAUSED it, that wouldn't be the right course of action.

by Anonymousreply 10June 23, 2014 6:34 PM

Interesting write-up/summary/re-cap of the show.

Still not sure I'm totally in, but I'll probably watch the next episode at least:

I streamed it from the TNT page at lunch. Great show. Especially since it was just the pilot episode. Usually it takes a few show for a show to get going.

Here's the stream.

Anyone watch the second episode?

by Anonymousreply 13June 30, 2014 3:52 AM

Terrorism is bad.

Idiot saboteur is so fucking obvious I can't believe nobody has figured him out.

by Anonymousreply 14July 1, 2014 3:56 AM

Hot ass in tight pants

by Anonymousreply 16July 1, 2014 4:14 AM

I'd watch paint dry as long as Rhona Mitra is in it.

by Anonymousreply 17July 1, 2014 4:21 AM

I enjoy these mega-apocalyptic adventures a lot, but you have to remember they are really just scaled-down transformer movies. They get all the fx worked up, then they write scripts each week trying to tie them together.

Sometimes things have to happen for no apparent reason just to fill a little time.

by Anonymousreply 18July 1, 2014 5:52 AM

I have a lukewarm interest in it but knowing that homophobe asshole Adam Baldwin is in it takes the interest completely away.

by Anonymousreply 19July 1, 2014 6:11 AM

In the beginning of the pilot, the ship was supposedly docked in Norfolk, VA.

There was a clear shot of palm trees in the background.

WTF?

[all posts by tedious, racist idiot removed.]

by Anonymousreply 21July 1, 2014 3:46 PM

I had it on for 5 minutes and thought it'd bore me silly. And I'm no snob about popcorn entertainment, but this looks like a misfire. Too bad, because I'd love to watch a show starring Eric Dane in a military uniform.

by Anonymousreply 22July 1, 2014 3:56 PM

[quote]I have a lukewarm interest in it but knowing that homophobe asshole Adam Baldwin is in it takes the interest completely away.

I feel similarly... yet even I have to admit he's been the best thing about this stupid show so far.

The lead female scientist is just the worst.

by Anonymousreply 23July 1, 2014 9:50 PM

I prefer SHIP OF FOOLS.

by Anonymousreply 24July 1, 2014 9:58 PM

R21, yeah I've seen that before. But it seems like a continuity person would catch that. It was so blatant. They could've easily removed the trees in post, since they only appeared for about five seconds.

by Anonymousreply 25July 1, 2014 11:33 PM

The Russians!

by Anonymousreply 26July 7, 2014 3:03 AM

"I LOVE YOU! SO STAY AWAY FROM ME!"

... seriously?

by Anonymousreply 27July 7, 2014 4:00 AM

This show is not good.

by Anonymousreply 28July 7, 2014 7:13 PM

I'll stick with this show. I do appreciate the accurate military bearing and details, and they obviously got great support from the Navy. Too bad that woman is integral to the entire story.

by Anonymousreply 29July 7, 2014 7:30 PM

The scientist woman is just horrible. Her traitor partner isn't much better.

And they keep showing that same scene of the turret turning and firing over and over. It's almost funny.

by Anonymousreply 30July 7, 2014 7:33 PM

Rhona Mitra?

by Anonymousreply 31July 7, 2014 7:33 PM

Not a lot of buzz around this show, is there?

by Anonymousreply 32July 13, 2014 10:04 PM

The female Dr. is most definitely a near show killer. She's not old enough to have attained the scientific level she reached and most women who do don't look like they stepped out of a Victoria's Secret catalog. They should have modeled the role after a Star Trek like Dr..

by Anonymousreply 33July 13, 2014 10:29 PM

It looks depressing...like a less campy "E.R."

by Anonymousreply 34July 13, 2014 10:50 PM

Every show or movie seems to be dystopian.

by Anonymousreply 35July 13, 2014 10:53 PM

"The Last Ship" could be the title of a David Frost biopic, like The Last Station was with Tolstoy.

by Anonymousreply 36July 13, 2014 11:14 PM

This show is not dystopian. The situation is just the backdrop for a well-done action adventure show. It's not meant to be taken seriously.

by Anonymousreply 37July 13, 2014 11:34 PM

Rhona talking about her role.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 38July 13, 2014 11:36 PM

I would rather watch Rhona Mitra as anything other than the last scientist on earth than can save humankind...but that's I got.

by Anonymousreply 39July 15, 2014 4:59 AM

This most recent episode was just not very good.

The "crisis of the week" formula already feels tired and clichéd.

by Anonymousreply 40July 15, 2014 6:08 AM

Anyone watch this week? Or has everyone given up on it?

by Anonymousreply 41July 21, 2014 4:13 AM

I'll take the stunning silence as a 'yeah, everyone has given up on it'

Interestingly, last night's episode was slightly more watchable than most.

by Anonymousreply 42July 21, 2014 1:43 PM

I DVR and watch it a few days later. It's a decent show, far better than The Last Resort, which it reminds me of. And Eric Dane is incredibly hot. It just got picked up for another season.

by Anonymousreply 43July 21, 2014 2:06 PM

I'm sticking with it R42 despite the pussification of this week's episode.

by Anonymousreply 44July 22, 2014 8:20 AM

This last episode was absolutely terrible. The first couple were somewhat compelling, but it's not worth sticking with if it stays on this track. The sick jungle people's costuming and makeup was lol hilarious, and the "villain" was embarrassingly cartoonish.

by Anonymousreply 45July 22, 2014 1:26 PM

I'm really enjoying this show so far.

Agree that the scientist woman Rhona Mitra is awful - she's just really unlikable as a person. I think it might be the actress too - not the part.

Anyway looking forward to next week.

by Anonymousreply 46July 22, 2014 1:32 PM

Surprised no one has yet mentioned that Eric Danes' character looks ALOT like JFK

by Anonymousreply 47July 22, 2014 5:28 PM

R45, I'm surprised to hear you say that, because I thought the last episode was probably the best of the ones so far. Not that it was good, mind you...

by Anonymousreply 48July 22, 2014 7:49 PM

[all posts by tedious, racist idiot removed.]

by Anonymousreply 49July 22, 2014 9:34 PM

R49, totally agree, I am watching this on demand and I like it. Eric Dane is really doing it for me. HOT HOT HOT!

And also that I've never been with a guy in uniform.

by Anonymousreply 50July 26, 2014 5:37 PM

One of the problems with this show, at least for me, is remembering what happens from week to week. I've started watching it on Optimum OnDemand. I downloaded the Watch TNT app because the 1st two eps were no longer available. It's great as a marathon; I actually like it.

I also like "Murder in the First," another TNT original.

by Anonymousreply 51July 31, 2014 1:43 PM

I watch TLS. I want to like it, but I keep thinking that this disease being so virulent is ridiculous. Last week, the British scientist Quincy said something like 98% of South America is wiped out because the virus thrives in warmer temperatures. So wouldn't the far northern reaches of the world still have healthy (healthier) populations?

And aren't there ANY submarines still roaming the oceans? Every single nation with a navy recalled every single ship, thus dooming all of their military? The Russian was the ONLY military officer to disobey orders?

Having said that, the show's well-constructed and is following along with a number of story lines quite well.

I LOVED the way Eric Danes took away Quincy's chess set last week. Excellent way to punish.

by Anonymousreply 52July 31, 2014 6:50 PM

[all posts by tedious, racist idiot removed.]

by Anonymousreply 53July 31, 2014 6:59 PM

It's getting better.

As long as Lt. Danny Green is okay, I'm there. Last week I just wanted to put a cool cloth on his brow and make him all better.

His name is Travis Van Winkle. (really)

by Anonymousreply 54July 31, 2014 8:16 PM

I want Eric Dane to pound my boygina quite forcefully.

by Anonymousreply 55August 1, 2014 1:03 AM

So, any guesses as to what will happen now that the Russians have captured Eric Danes?

Did I miss something with the ocean rescue? Is Tex still in the water or did he get pulled up to the Russian helicopter as well?

by Anonymousreply 56August 4, 2014 11:46 AM

[quote]And aren't there ANY submarines still roaming the oceans? Every single nation with a navy recalled every single ship, thus dooming all of their military? The Russian was the ONLY military officer to disobey orders?

There's plenty of plot to come.

by Anonymousreply 57August 4, 2014 2:53 PM

Decent episode last night. I really liked the actress who played the Jamaican girl. I wonder if Gabourey Sidibe was considered for it.

by Anonymousreply 58August 4, 2014 10:29 PM

[quote]Did I miss something with the ocean rescue? Is Tex still in the water or did he get pulled up to the Russian helicopter as well?

Tex is still in the water, he insisted that Danes go first.

That was a very well-done sequence imo: having the Navy people watching what their chopper finds, then cutting to the guys in the water being found by a chopper, and cutting back and forth a few times before we're finally told that it's not the Americans' chopper that's picked up the guys to maximize the "oh shit" moment.

This show isn't spectacular, and there's plenty of lame cliches to be found, but I still enjoy it enough to keep watching.

by Anonymousreply 60August 11, 2014 7:24 AM

I don't understand how the Nathan James crew got on to the Russian vessel. They approach in the small boat with an outboard motor roaring, pull up along side, somehow get on to the deck and then have run of parts of the ship? HOW???

It was suspenseful, I appreciated how the scientist's presence on the Russian vessel was explained. So he weaponized the virus. I thought the doctor was going to shoot him after killing the Russian.

So that idiot Quincy gets a tearful reunion with his family. I hope the wife finds out how he colluded with the Russians and almost got everyone killed at Gitmo.

I can't wait for the Russians to return! That captain's going to be a complete nutjob at that point!

Who's taking bets that the doctor and the XO will hook-up at some point?

by Anonymousreply 61August 11, 2014 10:43 AM

Didn't all the Russians, including the admiral, get blown up? If they didn't the German dude definitely infected and killed them all.

by Anonymousreply 62August 12, 2014 10:05 PM

Only two more episodes.

I'm doubting this gets a second season. Anyone hear anything?

by Anonymousreply 63August 13, 2014 4:37 AM

[quote]"I LOVE YOU! SO STAY AWAY FROM ME!"

So is Angelina Jolie doing a cameo as Gia Carangi?

by Anonymousreply 64August 13, 2014 1:56 PM

[quote]I'm doubting this gets a second season. Anyone hear anything?

"TNT has renewed three of its chart-topping summer hits: The Last Ship, Major Crimes and Falling Skies.

The Last Ship is a blockbuster hit in its first season, not only among total viewers but also among key adult demos. The action-packed drama from executive producer Michael Bay has averaged more than 7.2 million viewers in Live + 7 delivery in its first season and currently ranks as basic cable's #1 scripted series this summer with adults 18-49 and adults 25-54. The show is also cable's #1 new series for the year-to-date among total viewers and adults 25-54."

by Anonymousreply 65August 13, 2014 2:12 PM

Wow, really? I'm surprised. I found it to be mediocre at best.

And Falling Skies has been horrible. It totally doesn't deserve a new season.

by Anonymousreply 66August 13, 2014 2:18 PM

I agree completely, The Last Ship is mediocre and Falling Skies is just plain awful. Nonetheless, Ship will return for 13 episodes next summer (up from 10 this year) and Skies will be back for a final season of 10 episodes.

Dull, dumb and derivative is big with TV viewers these days.

by Anonymousreply 67August 13, 2014 3:13 PM

Dropped it after three eps. Boring & silly. And that Rhona Mitra is the worst actress I've ever seen.

I've decided my time is better spent watching The Strain.

by Anonymousreply 68August 14, 2014 6:25 AM

No one else quickly sped-read this as "The Last Shit"?

by Anonymousreply 69August 14, 2014 7:40 AM

Last night's episode was pretty intense.

I won't post spoilers for those who DVR/haven't seen it yet. I will say that I wish Eric Dane would hug ME like that!

One more episode... the ship docks, somewhere for the finale and realized that society has collapsed?

What does that mean for season 2 of a program titled The Last Ship?

Drama alert, the captain's wife is ill... will she die? Infect the kids and grandpa?

Titus Welliver was in Olympia, shooting the infected woman in the rain... you don't cast him unless he's going to be a regular, right?

by Anonymousreply 72August 19, 2014 9:30 AM

I feel like they are trying too hard to make "Tex" into the sarcastic relief, ala Sawyer on LOST.

by Anonymousreply 73August 19, 2014 2:10 PM

God, this is as bad as a show can get.

Danny should have been relieved of his responsibilities when he has a breakdown in episode 3 when some of his team bites it. The Captain ought to also be relieved when he puts Danny in charge of some away party after said breakdown. And the Captain shouldn't be going on away-parties, leave that to Captain Kirk. Also, everybody seems to get to question the Captain's orders, in public, which is crazy, too. Also, the Texan they picked-up in Cuba seems to have become one of the senior staff, why exactly? No reason, that's why. Ugh.

Too bad, it's got a timely theme, with the Ebola and all.

by Anonymousreply 74August 20, 2014 9:14 PM

Rhona Mitra has this string of hair that hangs down, oh-so-casually and naturally, yet it's the same in each episode I've seen. It's supposed to look natural, but it's not.

by Anonymousreply 75August 21, 2014 12:00 AM

Overheard on set-

Rhona: (bellowing to key hair lady) LAST LOOKS ON MY STRAND, LAST LOOKS ON MY STRAND!

by Anonymousreply 76August 22, 2014 4:30 AM

Tonight is the season finale!

... already?

Yes, already!

by Anonymousreply 77August 25, 2014 12:52 AM

So... the show pivots to being based mostly on land? I like the direction, but the name of the show seems to argue that this will be a temporary change...

by Anonymousreply 78August 25, 2014 1:57 AM

i saw a few episodes. agree it's average at best. Falling skies is shit.

by Anonymousreply 79August 25, 2014 2:02 AM

I'll be honest... the finale was probably the best episode of the series. The ending sets up a very interesting next season.

by Anonymousreply 80August 25, 2014 2:06 AM

Alfre can't come back next season if that series she'll be doing with supercunt Katherine Heigl is a hit.

by Anonymousreply 81August 25, 2014 5:33 AM

I love Alfre Woodard - always have. She's an actress who pops up in the most unusual roles and bring something different to each.

OK, so how do they get out of Baltimore next season?

What's the fate of the Quincy character?

Do we really need more children on The Last Ship?

by Anonymousreply 82August 25, 2014 10:07 AM

R81, I'm sure they can schedule shooting an episode or two around her other work, especially since The Last Ship probably shoots AFTER she's done shooting her other show.

by Anonymousreply 83August 25, 2014 4:08 PM

Where do you get that from, R83? State Of Affairs is shooting 22 episodes through April next year. The Last Ship will probably start production in the fall or winter for episodes to air in the summer.

by Anonymousreply 84August 25, 2014 4:17 PM

God, "State of Affairs" looks ridiculous - hopefully it will be cancelled quickly.

Heigl as a top CIA analyst to a black female president? How far into the future is the program set? 2030?

Back to The Last Ship... will next season be spent going from one port to another, confronting a crisis of society's collapse, dispensing some vaccine and sailing of again? Of course now we have a menagerie of children on board... will Adam Baldwin be a big playful uncle to the young'uns?

by Anonymousreply 85August 27, 2014 10:27 AM

Not sure how they get a full season out of it (and keep it ship-focused), but the next few episodes do look to be interesting.... landside.

by Anonymousreply 86August 27, 2014 1:54 PM

[all posts by tedious, racist idiot removed.]

by Anonymousreply 87August 27, 2014 2:28 PM

does it get better?

by Anonymousreply 88August 27, 2014 8:17 PM

Actually R87, I prefer Baldwin being Tex's bottom. The scene can be shot in the ship's gang bang shower.

I just don't see Dane's character doing the whole man-on-man thang. Maybe Quincy died in the finale and Dane can ravage the widow.

by Anonymousreply 89August 27, 2014 9:30 PM

Titus Welliver is good in everything; I even like saying his name.

by Anonymousreply 90August 27, 2014 9:58 PM

[quote]I just don't see Dane's character doing the whole man-on-man thang.

I can totally see him dominating Adam Baldwin and making Adam go down on him. Totally.

by Anonymousreply 91August 27, 2014 11:30 PM

I'd totally like to see that, R91

by Anonymousreply 92August 28, 2014 3:28 AM

Season 2 started tonight.

by Anonymousreply 93June 22, 2015 3:30 AM

It's on Hulu now! I'm watching it. Some hunky guys.
