JFK Jr.

What was he like? I was 11 when he died, so I don't really have any recollections of him. I recently read that Ann Coulter was one of the writers for his magazine George, which piqued my interest. Was he smart? Wikipedia says he failed the bar exam twice. Didn't he date Sarah Jessica Parker?

by Anonymousreply 404October 20, 2018 12:17 AM

He pretty much peaked with that little salute.

by Anonymousreply 1June 21, 2014 8:43 PM

Most handsome man with the best body I've ever seen.

by Anonymousreply 2June 21, 2014 9:18 PM

Many people have said that JFK Jr. was a nice guy compared to some of his Kennedy cousins. I recall it being mentioned publicly that he had some kind of learning disorder.

by Anonymousreply 3June 21, 2014 9:21 PM

I have a couple of friends who dealt with him professionally -- one at George and another in the DA's office. Both said he was incredibly nice and unassuming but had a short attention span.

by Anonymousreply 4June 21, 2014 9:33 PM

In the early 1980s, I was working on the campus of Brown University when he was a student and I was taking a leave of absence from my own studies. I used to watch him play touch football on the college green, sometimes without a shirt on. He was every bit as good-looking in person as he was in photographs.

One day when I was walking along Thayer Street near campus, he and I arrived at the same corner and nearly bumped into each other. He was wearing very worn gray sweatpants cut off into shorts, apparently without any underwear on. As I stepped out of his way, he reached down to scratch himself, and I saw what was clearly a big cock flop around.

To this day, I still feel my face flush when I recall that encounter.

by Anonymousreply 5June 21, 2014 9:34 PM

Never knew him but always heard he had a pretty wrapper but not much going on upstairs.

by Anonymousreply 6June 21, 2014 9:44 PM

I lost $150 bucks 'flickin the bean' thinking of him.

by Anonymousreply 7June 21, 2014 9:51 PM

Once you got past the hair, his ass was a silky smooth as a casket flag.

by Anonymousreply 8June 21, 2014 9:54 PM

R8, That's just mean. LOL

by Anonymousreply 9June 21, 2014 10:30 PM

I did a few days of jury duty with him about a month before he died. He was incredibly handsome. I'd seen him around NYC for years, but to be honest he always seemed like a total douche bag.

by Anonymousreply 10June 22, 2014 2:21 AM

In the end he was a little wet behind the ears.

by Anonymousreply 11June 22, 2014 2:25 AM

He was very good-looking.

He wasn't smart.

He had no clear direction in life, He probably would have entered politics because that's what everyone always figured he would follow in his father's footsteps.

He was into athletics but was kind of a klutz.

He had rather questionable taste in women. He had a long relationship with the very flakey Daryl Hannah.

Supposedly he wanted to be an actor, but his queen-like mother Jackie forbade it. She made decisions for him and he adhered to her wishes. She also forbade him to take flying lessons (in retrospect, a wise decision). He didn't marry until after her death, probably because he knew she wouldn't approve of his choice for a wife.

He married Carolyn Bessette, a quite full of herself, tall, skinny, bleached blonde. She was striking rather than beautiful, but to be tall, skinny and blonde constitutes beauty for some people. Much was made of her "style" but she didn't have much of one. When she made public appearances with John-John she wore a black dress, red lipstick and severely pulled back hair. That was her style. She and John Jr. had screaming fights in public before they married, which wasn't a good sign. They married and were said to be crazy in love, but no doubt they would have eventually divorced. Carolyn was not handling the pressure of being a Kennedy very well. It wasn't a good match.

John Jr., his wife and her sister were killed in a plane crash that happened due to his incompetence as a pilot.

Basically, he was a unusually handsome, mostly amiable guy, not very bright, who was expected to achieve greatness but never did.

by Anonymousreply 12June 22, 2014 3:08 AM

When I first started seeing photos of him, I didn't think he was attractive, then I saw film footage of him and realized he was very attractive.

His wife, apparently wasn't a nice person.

by Anonymousreply 13June 22, 2014 3:15 AM

She was the Gwyneth Paltrow of her era.

So was he.

by Anonymousreply 14June 22, 2014 3:22 AM

He forced me to talk to that tart Madonna.

by Anonymousreply 15June 22, 2014 3:24 AM

Fools deliberately refuse to see the obvious group effort in play that took out JFK. Example: the limo driver slowed down until the fatal shot was fired. Who with sufficient security training and clearance to drive a President and Governor would slow down at the sound of gunfire?

The willful stupidity of the public makes it possible for cabals to perpetrate malicious deeds in full public view without fear of apprehension.

For that reason much of the general public will never allow themselves to understand that JFK Jr. was also assassinated, albeit under cover of darkness and far from public view. He crashed his plane because it was brought down. He had a co-pilot on board too but that man's involvement has been wiped clean from the story. He was a threat to the Powers That Be and they eliminated him.

by Anonymousreply 16June 22, 2014 6:07 AM

Tin Hat alert at R16!

by Anonymousreply 17June 22, 2014 6:24 AM

You're so cute, R17. I very nearly signed my post Tin Hat knowing that would be the instant response. I declined, thinking it was too obvious and here you are proving my point.

My lovely tin hat and I aside, there is a cabal inside the USA and outside it that kills Kennedys among others. JFK Jr. could have had the Senate seat from NY over Hillary Clinton in 2000 (for starters, he was an actual resident of New York.) He could have had the Presidency over George Bush in '04. Too many Americans wanted a new JFK. The PTB nipped that problem in the bud.

by Anonymousreply 18June 22, 2014 6:38 AM

JFK Jr had a thing for batshit crazy women. The one he married, Carolyn, abused cocaine and was prone to fits of anger and childlike tantrums. She would have been a huge liability for him had he gone into politics.

by Anonymousreply 19June 22, 2014 6:40 AM

IIRC his wife was very stylish at the time - incredibly chic, in the know black Yamamoto dresses and Prada when the mainstream was still very early 90s Melrose Place-y or grunge.

I have no doubt Jr. would be a senator today on his road to being president. We've voted in a 2nd Bush and are on our way to a 2nd Clinton, so I feel like a 2nd Kennedy in the form of John John would have been a cake walk.

by Anonymousreply 20June 22, 2014 6:51 AM

I just love starting threads so I can tell my age! Me so young!

by Anonymousreply 21June 22, 2014 7:12 AM

John-John was the ultimate privileged himbo. He might well be a senator by now had he lived; but if so he would just be an empty suit with great hair.

by Anonymousreply 22June 22, 2014 7:19 AM

I wonder if he could have gotten through the entire two terms without the public finding out that he wasn't very intelligent. It's quite possible just being a handsome Kennedy would have been enough. Needed a new wife very badly though, good family but not disgustingly rich, a style-setter, hip but not crude, down-to-earth but classy. Let's see ... who could we draft?

by Anonymousreply 23June 22, 2014 7:38 AM

MARRRRY!!!! @ R20

by Anonymousreply 24June 22, 2014 7:46 AM

Carolyn Bessette was a real bitch--she loved bossing him around, and he wanted that badly (he was so used to having his mother tell him what to do). If they were alive today they'd be divorced or he'd be cheating on her like crazy--apparently the one thing in the world he really liked to do was chase pussy (just like his dads and his uncles and grandfathers), though I wonder if John-John was much better at it than the earlier generation was (though women always loved being chased by them, they found the Kennedy boys disappointments in the sack).

by Anonymousreply 25June 22, 2014 8:05 AM

I don't think the wife had style. I think the media decided she had style. Her style - simplicity - wasn't exactly unique.

by Anonymousreply 26June 22, 2014 12:40 PM

If only there was a tool, at your fingertips, where you could researchers stupid questions without letting people know you were stupid.

by Anonymousreply 27June 22, 2014 12:58 PM

He had a big cock.

by Anonymousreply 28June 22, 2014 1:00 PM

He wouldn't have had to divorce Bessette to be a politician. As long as she was willing, she would have worked on toning down the bitch persona, which would have worked unless she really WAS that generation's Gwynnie.

by Anonymousreply 29June 22, 2014 1:02 PM

I still remember the first People magazine pix of Bessette shortly after they began dating.

She was standing at the bow of a boat, looking forward, one foot daintily raised to place it into shorts that JFK, Jr. stooped down at her feet, was holding for her.

She had the upper hand with him from the get-go.

Anybody else remember those pix?

by Anonymousreply 30June 22, 2014 1:14 PM

I remember an Enquirer cover saying that JFK jr. and Di were secretly dating.

by Anonymousreply 31June 22, 2014 1:50 PM

I remember a blind item about a handsome scion who said he liked women with defective parts. One was missing half a finger. One had inverted nipples. The last one had her eyebrows plucked out and they never grew back.

by Anonymousreply 32June 22, 2014 2:12 PM

So based on the facts R12, do you or anyone else thinks the plane crash was really a terrible accident? Or... besides his looks and last name he was a fuck up and to end it all. I think it was a very public suicide that unfortunate took two other lives.

by Anonymousreply 33June 22, 2014 2:30 PM
If only there was a tool, at your fingertips, where you could researchers stupid questions without letting people know you were stupid.

Thanks for the snark and bitchery, but I posted because I was interested in personal recollections and stories, which posters have been providing.

by Anonymousreply 34June 22, 2014 2:50 PM

He was a piss poor pilot.

by Anonymousreply 35June 22, 2014 3:21 PM

The problem with R16's theory is that a large majority of people have always believed there was a conspiracy.

by Anonymousreply 36June 22, 2014 3:26 PM

R36, did you even READ the OP, or did you just feel like being completely redundant and adding to the thread by adding NOTHING to the thread?

Just curious.

by Anonymousreply 37June 22, 2014 3:27 PM

Examine your life, R38. There must be something better you can be doing than providing useless snark on a DL thread.

by Anonymousreply 38June 22, 2014 3:31 PM

He had adhd. Which his family chose to ignore.

by Anonymousreply 39June 22, 2014 3:33 PM

by Anonymousreply 40June 22, 2014 3:37 PM

A lovely man who took his time getting to know each poster on Datalounge - no matter how brief their stay or how crazy their posts were. A Datalounge treasure.

by Anonymousreply 41June 22, 2014 3:42 PM

There is more to the crash than what was lead on. At that time of the crash, it was not dark enough to lose orientation. The report said plane dropped a little in altitude, made a sharp turn then suddenly plunged straight down. Either they were having a ménage à trois or a major fight took place between the Mr. & Mrs. that caused such a sudden, erratic and unexplained change in the flight.

by Anonymousreply 42June 22, 2014 3:44 PM

That just means he fell asleep and stalled the plane.

by Anonymousreply 43June 22, 2014 4:00 PM

I met him a couple of times when he was an ADA in Morganthau's office. he was breathlessly handsome. When he walked into the elevator, it was surreal. He had more star power and charisma than any Hollywood movie star.

by Anonymousreply 44June 22, 2014 8:47 PM

Probably no one will believe me, but over the years friends of mine who were very good-looking all had one thing in common: they said JFK Jr. cruised them. And these were solid, honest guys. They wouldn't have made it up.

by Anonymousreply 45June 22, 2014 8:50 PM

We were at Brown together (with Christianne Amanpour). He wanted to be an actor and hung out with us in the theater department - alas, he wasn't very good as an actor, but he was a) pretty and b) sexually uninhibited. He probably was his best in a production of "Short Eyes", which was all about men in prison (think "Oz"), where he played a newbie. He fucked men and women and everyone wanted to be with him - but only once. He wasn't very good in bed, and when he was with men he only topped and wouldn't suck.

None of us were surprised by Madonna's comments about him years later.

How many stupid fucking posts about how HANDSOME he was.

The point's been made!

by Anonymousreply 47June 22, 2014 9:13 PM

I saw him give a speech just before he died. He seemed like a good-lucking, well-meaning, if not exceptionally bright, guy. I wouldn't say he was any "hotter" than I was (at the time) or any number of similar men without a famous name. But, yes he was attractive and seemed like a good dude.

by Anonymousreply 48June 22, 2014 9:15 PM

R5, I would give anything to have had that experience.

He was American Royalty. I still can't believe he's gone.

by Anonymousreply 49June 22, 2014 9:22 PM

As I've posted before, my sister once met him and felt there was no there there.

And, R49, I was noticing that JFK, Jr. was starting to lose his looks shortly before he died.

by Anonymousreply 50June 22, 2014 9:36 PM

R48, ya know WTF

by Anonymousreply 51June 22, 2014 9:40 PM

He was never going into politics. He was already famous enough. He didn't have the Kennedy political fight in him.

by Anonymousreply 52June 22, 2014 9:52 PM

What do you think his future would have been?

by Anonymousreply 53June 22, 2014 10:01 PM

I see that the asylum's internet connection must have been restored.

by Anonymousreply 54June 22, 2014 10:03 PM

He was gorgeous, he was a nice guy but he was dumb as a post.

by Anonymousreply 55June 22, 2014 10:05 PM

I've posted before about this: I was in school in Boston same time as Carolyn when she was at BU, we had some mutual acquaintances/friends. She looked totally different then, heavier with darker hair teased very big which was the style then. Stone washed jeans, booties and tank tops. Was very sweet and seemed to have a decent sense of humor.

She has some kind of problem with her mother and spent a summer waitressing at Kenmore Square to make money since they weren't sending her any from home. My summer roommate worked with her.

Wished I paid more attention back then but no one thought she'd become Mrs. JFK Jr back then. An NHL wife maybe (she liked her hockey players) but not Jackie O's successor, no way.

by Anonymousreply 56June 22, 2014 10:14 PM

Was he a cheater or a serial monogamist?

by Anonymousreply 57June 22, 2014 10:56 PM

I always got the feeling John John was kind of a nice guy, casual and mannered (which he was, Mom taught him well). He felt he had to do something because of his name but I think he might have preferred being an anonymous guy running a small airport down in the Caribbean. There must be a curse on the Kennedys. They lose all their men, leaving the women behind. Joe Jr. was the old man's original pick for President.

by Anonymousreply 73June 23, 2014 2:07 AM

I told this story before but so what,I want to again ! I was working in west palm beach at a convenience store in the mid 80s,and John John came in and bought some gum and evian.I was as starstruck as some teenage girl, having recognized him instantly. He was very polite, looked me dead in the eyes the whole time we interacted, commented on the weather, and thanked me. He radiated a calm, confident sexiness.Pictures did not do him justice,he was ridiculously handsome in real life. I think he was secretly amused at my obvious giddiness !

Yes, indeed. The Wales married in 1981. The Kennedys in 1996.

I remember wedding dresses being locked in style. For those fifteen years.

by Anonymousreply 76June 23, 2014 2:11 AM

About the accident:

Speaking as a professional, JFK Jr had indeed purchased a high performance aircraft that was well beyond his abilities. Most of his flight time had actually been in hang gliders - not aircraft. He could say he had xx amount of flight hours but it was a stretch. Very basic fixed gear medium horsepower aircraft, Pipers or Cessnas were a fit for his level of proficiency.

He was wise to add an instrument rating, (any pilot should have that for those unexpected moments of cloud cover) but had only applied it in a Flight Safety simulator or with an instructor in an aircraft - sort of in a cram course. He wanted the man toy, the high performance Piper Saratoga, fast complicated and most insurance companies would have required a flight instructor for a brief time to accompany low experience owner operators.

Night & Dusk or Haze is deadly. As someone that flew all these areas when my own time was low I know the total concentration, high level of flight experience it would have required when the horizon (which is how most low experience pilots fly - looking OUT) was obscured by haze or darkness. He was completely inexperienced at focusing 100% on his instrumentation, and the mechanical needs of this aircraft.

A good pilot listens to his or her inner voice on these issues. He had reportedly told George colleagues that Carolyn wanted him to fly late afternoon to Marthas vineyard - like maybe after dark like, "Oh yeah, she wants me to do it after dark!" and he manly joked about "Landings maybe after dark!"

He became disoriented and couldnt figure up from down or climb or descend. It is a huge leap in experience and he didnt have it to fall on. This was a stiupid and unecessary death. A good insurance company would have not permitted this.

After all in those bad old days anyone could have plunked down many dollars and come away with a Flight Safety certificate of qualification. So that is what he did. (Even the 9/11 murderous human garbage hijackers did this only without completing the training at a diff facility) Hopefully it is now more stringent.

Seeing him buzzing around on his bike or playing football in Central Park was one of the things that was so cool about living in NYC in the early 90s. He really had no pretensions whatsoever. Interacted with him once at a restaurant called Nick and Eddie in Soho. He was interested in my friend - a girl - who worked at Tony Shafrazi gallery. They flirted a little but she had a boyfriend so she didn't go further with it. He did show up at the gallery a little while later asking for her but she had just quit. This was right before he started dating Carolyn.

by Anonymousreply 82June 23, 2014 2:24 AM

What r78 said -- but even highly experienced instrument rated pilots will sometimes lose it and get disoriented when they turn out over dark open water.

by Anonymousreply 83June 23, 2014 2:25 AM

I met him several times and knew Carolyn. He was by far the best looking man I ever saw up close, and I am including Michael Bergin, Hugh Grant around the time of Notting Hill, Keanu Reeves who I know pretty well, James Marsden, Hugh Jackman, Ryan Gosling, Edgar Ramirez in Domino, Christian Bale in his American Psycho days, Mark Vanderloo in his DKNY days, John Barrowman (before botox) Josh Hartnett when he did Virgin Suicides. JFK,jr blew them all away. And he had flawless manners and was polite and grounded.

Thank you to Captain Anonymous for the details.

Small plane crashes happen all the time. There is a magazine for small planes--I think it is AOCC or some acronym--that has a column every month that analyzes a deadly crash from the month before. (I used to have a friend who was a pilot and would read their mags.) The most memorable column that I read was a crash that killed all five people aboard who were just weekend joyriders. Trouble was that they were all fatties and the pilot had underestimated their aggregate weights, so the plane could not ascend correctly.

by Anonymousreply 95June 24, 2014 3:42 PM

The old man R62 actually wanted it for himself but because of his big mouth in regards to sympathize with Hitler - shot himself in foot. Joe Jr. was his next chose and finally JFK. JFK was a sickly kid and the old man had his doubts according to rumours. JFK and Jr. did have one thing in common, they both apparently sucked in bed.

JFK was on speed through his entire presidency, thanks to Max Jacobsen. I'm sure that would affect his performance, i.e., "quick and fast, my pleasure only, please leave." I don't know what JFK Jr's excuse was, but damn he was fine and I can't imagine anyone turning him down for a second go. He somehow managed to get the best of both parents in the looks dept., unlike homely Caroline. I doubt we'll see the likes of JFK Jr. again in my lifetime. Besides his movie star looks, he worked at being accessible and polite to everybody, until Carolyn Bessette couldn't take the paps anymore and asked him to handle it for her. He tried, but of course just made it worse for both of them. Miss him like crazy. The world just seemed better with him in it.

I've often wonders if Jackie had not forbid Jr. from acting, would he have been any good. His looks and pedigree would have opened a lot of doors and jobs but movies are still a money making industry and wonder if he would have had the staying power. He could have always produced and banged like his grandfather.

by Anonymousreply 103June 24, 2014 4:05 PM

Wow, if JFK Jr. had a baby, that would be fabulous. The kid would be a huge celebrity.

I don't think John John had any acting ability. He was more model material.

by Anonymousreply 105June 24, 2014 4:11 PM
Small plane crashes happen all the time.

Which is why it is easy to stage a crash and pass it off as an accident. Ari Onassis' son was murdered in a sabotaged airplane. Jackie was frightened that her son would be killed the same way. She forbade him to fly a plane for that very reason. He foolishly took up flying after she died and that is how they assassinated him.

by Anonymousreply 106June 24, 2014 4:15 PM

I don't believe R101, although I would like it to be true.

by Anonymousreply 107June 24, 2014 4:18 PM
R12

Pretty much nailed it.

by Anonymousreply 108June 24, 2014 4:23 PM

Why would anyone assassinate him? He obviously wanted nothing to do with politics, he does not control fleet of oil tankers like Ari did. Never heard of anyone getting offed because they we too pretty.

by Anonymousreply 109June 24, 2014 4:28 PM

R110, of course he thought about going into politics. JFK Jr. could have had any elected office he desired, pretty much for the asking - a prospect that alarmed both Democrats and Republicans. The higher up the political pyramid you go, the closer the collusion there is among "opponents." People of both parties benefited from his elimination.

by Anonymousreply 110June 24, 2014 4:35 PM

R104 -- I think JFK Jr would have been like Matthew Salinger, JD's son -- okay, but nothing memorable, and even hyped, not for long.

by Anonymousreply 111June 24, 2014 4:36 PM

Except Matt Salinger wasn't 1/10th as good-looking as JFK, Jr, R112.

by Anonymousreply 112June 24, 2014 4:39 PM

by Anonymousreply 123June 24, 2014 6:30 PM

Images of his 2 (of 3) brothers were already out there for public consumption and he didn't want the Kennedys to have even more.

How do you account for the sister then ?

John Jr lucked out because he looked like a good mix from the gene pool. The sister looks pure Kennedy, or should I say Fitzgerald. Caroline isn't particularly attractive, does not speak well, at least not when giving a speech, nor does she possess much in the way of pizzazz.

JFK Jr. was sweet, but he had a flatulence problem.

by Anonymousreply 170June 26, 2014 2:48 AM

R168, it's true that Carolyn wasn't hot, but I think she had a model look about her, and she carried herself in an ice princess way (see link, albeit with good lighting). It seems that a lot of famous guys date an endless string of women with that unavailable look to them rather than "hot" or "pretty" women. I might add that oftentimes the guys who do this have gay rumors about them (not that I am privy to any about JFK Jr.).

He looks like a scolded child. She always seemed a raving bitch to me. You could tell people were reading from the PR script trying to "make her happen" as we say these days.

Saw her twice in person before Kennedy in the LES, she kept an apartment there for awhile. Yes she was tall around 5'9-10" but otherwise very ordinary looking as a whole and had severe facial features that got worse when she lost weight and went too blonde. Her eyes were pretty striking- icy blue. She was very much the type of east coast girl who moves to Manhattan to bag a rich wall street type = Bitchy Conneticut girl swinging above her weight. She got the prize but soon realized she was out of her depth.

by Anonymousreply 201June 28, 2014 3:32 PM

My godmother lived near John and Carolyn and, from what she told me, it was indeed Carolyn who started a lot of the fights.

My godmother almost never actually crossed their paths because of her work schedule, but not long before the plane crash, she passed him on the street. He was on his way home, on those crutches and having a hard time trying to carry a couple of bags with take-out or something like that. So, she offered to help him and carried the bags home with him. She said he was very kind and sincerely appreciated that she'd stopped to help.

But as soon as he got into his place, she could hear Carolyn starting to bitch at him. Yelling loud enough to hear her through the door, demanding to know "who was that" and sounding horrible jealous instead of being glad some older lady was kind enough to lend a hand.

by Anonymousreply 226June 29, 2014 12:17 AM

r220 I was at the Kennedy Library for Teddy's (public) wake and the courtyard at one point was full of Kennedys, Lawfords, and Shrivers of ever stripe, as they had all come outside to greet the public who had been waiting there for hours in the heat to see the casket.

Every one of them stood out in the crowd. You knew who was a Kennedy immediately, they were all taller, toothier and with tons of hair (the great hair and teeth really set them apart). Plus the added aura - it really does exist with them, even the unknown family members.

by Anonymousreply 227June 29, 2014 12:44 AM

He must have been pretty fucked up to marry a ball-buster like Carolyn Bessette.

Someone mentioned the photograph showing him holding out a pair of shorts for her to step into. That's REALLY submissive. But an even more disturbing photo was one taken after they'd had one of their screaming public fights. Poor John-John, prostrate with emotion, was seated on the sidewalk, with his face buried in his arms to prevent people from seeing he was CRYING. Carolyn was standing over him, her long mane of dyed blonde hair in disarray, looking down at him with pity. Another picture of that incident shows her taking him into her arms to comfort him after their terrible row. This was NOT a relationship destined to last.

by Anonymousreply 228June 29, 2014 12:55 AM

R227, to me, Robert Redford always looked like a lost Kennedy too. It's the teeth and hair, just jumped off a sailboat look.

Geraldo didn't mean to ruin sports by doing that sad tale, but it opened the door to the tidal wave of sad tales that hit in the late 90s when that ABC producer got cancer and after that, no Olympic medal counted unless there was a sad tale to go along with it.

I've read mixed accounts of how JFK,Jr.and Bessette met.

But I do know that Darryl Hannah was with him during Jackie O's funeral ad it seemed like only day later I saw pix of him and Bessette.

by Anonymousreply 236June 29, 2014 10:59 AM

R33 I have never heard anyone suggest suicide but after reading the Vanity Fair article on them it crossed my mind. They were living apart and she refused help for the drug use or marriage problems and wouldn't get pregnant. He was losing the magazine and his cousin and best friend to terminal cancer.

I remember those photos on a boat when they were first dating. He was helping her into kayaking gear. There was also one on a tabloid of her bare bottom in a thong. It seems to have completely disappeared.

I loved her style. I'm nearly 6fy tall with the same body type and simple clean looks best. Otherwise it's just too much.

What is your problem R200?

FYI- several of my siblings know Kennedy's quite well- and at least one spent time in my family's summer home- circumstance (school) and proximity- my brother in law was roommates and very close friends with Joe K- my brother knows Caroline from Harvard and some other stuff. John and I did have some things in common which is why it was easy to develop a casual acquaintance. Like others on this thread I think he was in thrawl of a beautiful but very difficult woman- that came long after he graduated from NYU.

If this information bothers you R200- sorry. I think some people like first had gossip- or impressions. Others merely get angry for reasons that are not clear to me. That's why I don't post that much on DL anymore.

by Anonymousreply 245June 29, 2014 2:47 PM

Calm down Charlie. It had nothing to do with your intimate involvement with American royalty and everything to do with your stupid phrase "painfully good looking."

From your viewpoint, Charlie, the post at R200 provided you with the opportunity to engage in a favorite hobby - name dropping. Before you assume that I don't like name dropping, I enjoy the way you litter your posts with interesting celeb names.

by Anonymousreply 246June 29, 2014 2:48 PM

I "name drop" because the topic of this thread- the I drop, I got to know casually. As you know I have "dropped" the name of others who I have personal experience with as well. This is a gossip site, right?

It's fun and I derive no more value from it than I do from chatting with my neighbors in the elevator. But I have for the most part ceased because the snarky responses take all the fun out of it.

My experience with John- (and his mother) were completely enjoyable- class acts and incredibly charismatic.

As a matter of fact, according to one of his handwritten notes reproduced in the memoirs 'Fairy Tale Interrupted', he wrote: '...we only auction mummy's jewelry once a life.'

'Mummy': yes very English upper-class indeed.

by Anonymousreply 258June 30, 2014 1:20 AM

Who would have been worthy of him? I mean, aside from the posters upthread ( who may imagine themselves covered in lace walking up the aisle at Notre Dame) and Princess Diana (of course).

I think it's admirable that he didn't marry Muffie Vanderbilt-Mellon-Ford. Maybe, just maybe, it was a love match.

by Anonymousreply 259June 30, 2014 1:22 AM

There are all sorts of social types, but he just needed a nice girl strong enough to endure all the publicity and, more, the Kennedy family dynamics.

by Anonymousreply 261June 30, 2014 1:27 AM

Charlie, a number of us enjoy your anecdotes. You've been regaling us with your stories for years and I like knowing the info you share is the real thing.

The whole "namedropping" allegation is stupid anyway. Living and working in areas of New York and attending an Ivy, you'd be hard pressed not to have interactions with celebs. IIRC, you were in school decades ago, so there was not a lot of social media. People actually talked with those in their environment, which was true everywhere.

Pre-Manhatten, Besette had all the chic of a young Carmela Soprano. Acid-washed denim blouson, teased hair and dark roots. Ouch.

I think she was lucky enough to run into some gay men in NYC who were kind enough to teach her to build a capsule wardrobe of minimal multi-tasking pieces in black, white, camel with touches of rust or carmine.

It takes discipline and control to dress minimally. She obviously had an eating disorder and seemed moody or even ragey. But I admire a woman who rejects flowery, messy femininity in their dress.

JFK's sister hated his wife.

by Anonymousreply 267July 4, 2014 3:40 PM

Carolyn Bessette seemed like a typically graceless, striving harpy. Not so pretty, but pretty enough with a thin body. Guys go nuts for this type, and shrewish girls always seem to attract men! I wouldn't invite this type, man or woman for a cup of coffee!

by Anonymousreply 268July 4, 2014 4:11 PM

According to Carole Radizwill, who was married to JFK, Jr's first cousin and best friend, Anthony, Carolyn Bessette was funny, affectionate, and impulsive, qualities that Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg wasn't, and the two just never clicked. The tension only grew worse because Caroline was a little dictator who would boss all the Kennedys around, and if anyone had problem with that, she would sic her bulldog husband on them and bully them into submission. It frustrated Carolyn to no end that Junior didn't have the balls to challenge his sister's authority. Carolyn was also constantly locking heads with Ed Schlossberg, who reportedly detested her.

In his memoirs, Robert Kennedy Jr detailed how Caroline was to meet with Ann Freeman, the Bessette girls' grieving mom, about where the deceased trio were to be buried. Ann wanted them buried in the Bessette family plot in Connecticut, but feared that the Kennedys would spirit them away to Brookline. Caroline instead sent her husband Ed in her place. The Bessettes knew how much he hated Carolyn and made her life miserable, so it was slap in the face. "He bullied, bullied, bullied the shattered grieving mother," RFK Jr. wrote.

At the memorial service, Ed "behaved like a dictator" and vetoed RFK Jr's plan to eulogize John and Carolyn, telling Carolyn's grieving sister Lisa, "Kennedy's don't eulogize non-Kennedys." It's no wonder that Jackie hated him.

by Anonymousreply 269July 4, 2014 6:37 PM

You know, you don't have to give in to a bully, unless they are holding a gun on you.

You simply have to make a huge scene and in the Kennedy's case, talk to the press.

by Anonymousreply 270July 4, 2014 7:02 PM

Did you ever think that Caroline is exactly like her mother?

by Anonymousreply 271July 4, 2014 7:03 PM

Was Caroline Kennedy even at her brother's wedding? I remember seeing Edward and other male cousins but I don't ever remember seeing photos of Caroline or Carolyn's mother and sisters.

by Anonymousreply 272July 4, 2014 7:08 PM

Anytime I read anything concerning the Kennedy's I think of poor Marilyn.

by Anonymousreply 273July 4, 2014 7:23 PM

Poor jfk, jr. Every gift but the gift of time.

by Anonymousreply 274July 4, 2014 11:45 PM

Caroline and her husband sound horrible. When she wanted the senate seat to be handed to her you could see the sense of entitlement.

Carolyn did seem a bit cold and aloof, but that's probably what landed JFK Jr. I remember after the college girlfriend all he dated was models or actresses. A normal woman never had a shot. I didn't consider Carolyn a regular woman, she was a fashionista. I found her attractive, more than beautiful. Men are more attracted to confidence and presence than pure beauty I believe. Unless they are 60-70 yr old billionaire who only want arm candy. Either way, had they lived, I don't think they would have still been married. Where there is smoke, there's fire.

A little tidbit I remember reading. On their Turkish honeymoon they were dining in a restaurant where they overhead a woman at another table remark that Carolyn was no beauty ( I don't think the tourist knew they were sitting right near her, if the story is to be believed).

It has been 15yrs!! It's seems impossible that he has been gone that long. She was stylish but no fashionista. And she WAS a regular woman with a reptilian face and pear shaped body! She had height in her favor so she didn't seem stumpy like shorter women with the same shape. She didn't come from money and trained to be a teacher at Boston Uni. Altogether ordinary - minimal education, short on marketable skills and long on ambition(read as social climbing). What could be more ordinary, typical of a Conneticut frau?

Of all that has been said of JFK, Jr., it's undoubtedly true that most of us who saw something we liked in JFK, Sr. did some "projecting" onto "John John." I'm a Gen-Xer, I was born as JFK left the world and have no memory of presidency. But, becoming interested as a kid at the tragedy of his death, have studied, and have come to care deeply for the man, and respect him, despite his faults.

JFK's goal in life was NOT to be president, at least at first. It was to teach history (college-level, of course). He was a great lover of history, a historian who even belonged to a notable American historical guild. The death of his older brother, Joe, Jr., changed the trajectory of his life.

JFK was the most pragmatic of the Kennedy Brothers, though RFK was probably the less reckless when it came to the womanizing that Joseph Sr. taught his boys--VERY WRONGLY--was OK.

I've read and studied a plethora on the assassination (and I still cry every time I see the Zapruder Film--and did, as well, when I watched the movie "Parkland"; the film is pretty historically accurate, all things considered.)

The best argument FOR Oswald acting alone is "Case Closed" by Gerald Posner (he also wrote an investigative book on the death of MLK). Still, I can't be certain. I can answer most every question (the "magic bullet" being the easiest to dispel) EXCEPT why William Greer, the Secret Service agent driving the X-100 (the President's limo) HIT the breaks? I'm also at a loss at Roy Kellerman--JFK's personal Secret Service agent--didn't respond quickly and attempt to get to the president and pull him down and shield him (JFK was being held upright because of his back brace). We'll never know.

As for JFK, Jr. He still hadn't found himself at the time of his death, and we don't know if he ever would have; again, we project onto him our own wishes, prejudices, etc.

I do know that JFK, Jr.--as a 17, 18, 19-year old teen gave me (only a few years younger) feelings I couldn't explain.

by Anonymousreply 291January 22, 2015 2:57 AM

R12 & R269 You summed JFK, Jr. and his wife up perfectly.

One little tidbit - John F. Kennedy, Jr. referred to his mother as "mummy".

Those nips! That treasure trail! Those hairy legs! That almost VPL!

Rich, looks, social status, too bad he was dumb but I guess that doesn't really count.

He sure had poor taste in women. Bessette always looked like a nasty piece of work. She probably denied him sex too. Does anyone else think her sister looked kind of gay?

by Anonymousreply 294April 9, 2015 11:00 PM

All the Kennedys, including Teddy, have been thorough one percenters who have never been considered a threat to the rich. The original JFK was a threat to the John Birchers in the military but none of these Kennedys were of the people or for the people.

by Anonymousreply 295April 9, 2015 11:33 PM

by Anonymousreply 296July 19, 2016 5:25 AM

Always amazed me that she had the balls to rock the pulled off hair. Not many can get away with it. She was no exception. Jr. really had his bar set a little too low.

by Anonymousreply 303July 19, 2016 8:17 AM

JKF Jr. may have been unconsciously looking for a domineering, controlling woman to marry, as a sort of replacement for his domineering, contolling mother. Carolyn filled the bill. Otherwise what man would have stayed with a woman who literally made him cry, on purpose?

Charlie from R181, are you still reading this site? If so can you give more details about your time going to the same NYU gym John did? Apparently, John was originally intended to be a target of Outpost's Absolutely Queer campaign.
Within weeks, the gay pranksters warn, Absolutely Queer John-John Kennedy posters will be going up all over Manhattan. "John Kennedy Jr.'s homosexuality is one of New York City's best kept secrets," declared Dr. James Serafini, an openly gay psychiatrist who is a co-conspirator in the Outpost scheme. "And now we're going to share it with the rest of the world. Our poster campaigns against other gay celebrities have gotten nationwide attention, and now, whether he likes it or not, John-John is about to be dragged out of the closet. He'd better brace himself."

r304 Frankly, I never saw what John Jr. saw in her. She made him cry as you mentioned, cheated on him, and wouldn't even let him touch her hair because it was so fragile from all of the bleaching. Given the fact the woman was not attractive, and yes I said it: she was a dog. It does make you question what did psychological need she filled for John Jr.

The first photos we saw of Carolyn was on the front of a Boston Whaler as John took her out on the water. She must have looked at the photos and freaked. She looked healthy, but not skinny. Only a saint could withstand the scrutiny JFK Jr. was destined to have for the rest of his life. He was America's Prince, a boy whose father was taken too young, and we felt protective of him.

I bet Caroline must have harbored a bit of jealousy toward him. It really hurts for a woman when her sister gets the freakishly good looking gene, so I can only imagine how deeper it cuts when it is the brother who gets it.

by Anonymousreply 325July 19, 2016 10:27 PM

John was probably attracted to Carolyn because she was not overly friendly to him. People who get treated so wonderfully by everyone their whole lives usually seek out someone that makes them feel like shit for a change.

by Anonymousreply 326July 19, 2016 10:34 PM

by Anonymousreply 333July 20, 2016 3:47 AM

I'd read this before. I think in a biography of him. The author said they had terrible fights in front of friends, usually precipitated and fueled by her coke use, and ending with her calling him a fag.

by Anonymousreply 334July 20, 2016 3:54 AM

"It would appear that true dimwit R323 is unfamiliar with the thread as conversation starter concept."

You consider asking what JFK Jr.(one of the most documented and talked about humans on the planet) "was like" and "was he smart?" and "didn't he date Sarah Jessica Parker?" a precursor to scintillating conversation? That's not a "conversation starter", that's stupidity. The OP is a dimwit. So are you.

by Anonymousreply 340November 4, 2017 5:54 AM

Devastatingly handsome.

by Anonymousreply 341November 4, 2017 6:09 AM

JFK Jr. WAS a True 10.

He did not even seem to work hard at being beautiful and charming.

No one has ever posted a mean or hostile act by him and he went out of his way to not intimidate or offend those around him.

It would have nice to have gotten to see him grow old gracefully and see choices he made moving forward.

by Anonymousreply 342November 5, 2017 8:32 PM

Bump

by Anonymousreply 343October 17, 2018 8:02 PM

It's been said on DL before that JFK Jr didn't fully come into his looks until he was mature.

Indeed, he is much more handsome in his thirties than in his teens or twenties.

I think he may have had a nose job.

If so, I am so disappointed. Is no one born naturally gorgeous?

by Anonymousreply 344October 17, 2018 8:04 PM

He was hyped as THE most hottest eligible bachelor of all time and the definitive Prince Charming. We had much higher standards then.

by Anonymousreply 345October 17, 2018 8:29 PM

R345, and yet he always had an elusive quality.

He was the best celebrity of all time!

by Anonymousreply 346October 17, 2018 8:52 PM

R342, so true.

by Anonymousreply 347October 17, 2018 8:53 PM

R344 here.

Can someone else give an opinion on a possible JFK Jr rhinoplasty?

by Anonymousreply 348October 17, 2018 8:54 PM

He was nice looking...face and hair but he had way way too much body hair for my taste. Looked great in a suit, Wasnt a real brain, that prize went to his sister. He was a classic trust fund kid who had no idea how the real world worked and took money for granted. One time checking into a hotel he did not know the difference between a suite and a regular room...........he led an insulated life thanks to his mother.

Jackie pulled the strings and made his decisions for him. After her death he didnt have a guiding angel behind him anymore..............tidbits......he was addicted to porn. He had attn def. disorder............he was easily distracted...........probably not good attributes for a pilot. The night he was killed was the first time he flew soIo at night without the help of a hired pilot next to him. While his plane was a single engine it was a powerful plane and not a good fit for a new pilot. Madonna described him as.............. naive in bed............. meaning I guess he hadnt been around the block that much.

by Anonymousreply 349October 18, 2018 12:40 AM

R349, that is completely obnoxious of Madonna to publicly critique his, er, performance.

No class.

by Anonymousreply 350October 18, 2018 1:07 AM

As gorgeous as he was, I did notice that he was starting to lose his looks, getting more jowly, shortly before he died.

by Anonymousreply 351October 18, 2018 1:19 AM

He was known for being pretty, and dumb.

by Anonymousreply 352October 18, 2018 1:27 AM

I thought the dog was on the plane with them?

by Anonymousreply 353October 18, 2018 1:41 AM

I find it really sad that he and his best friend—his cousin—died Within weeks of each other.

by Anonymousreply 354October 18, 2018 1:47 AM

He’s still alive and a huge Trump supporter!
I find it really sad that he and his best friend—his cousin—died Within weeks of each other.

I find it even sadder that he, his wife, and his sister-in-law all died within milliseconds of each other.

Thanks to his incompetence.

by Anonymousreply 357October 18, 2018 2:48 AM
Madonna described him as.............. naive in bed............. meaning I guess he hadnt been around the block that much.

Well, [italic]anyone[/italic] would be, compared to her. Even by that relatively early point she had been ridden more than a roller-coaster ride at Coney island.

by Anonymousreply 358October 18, 2018 2:50 AM

There have been a lot of other threads about JFK Jr. and CBK, but this one has a lot of good personal stories in it.

by Anonymousreply 359October 18, 2018 3:16 AM

Deaths in my life I remember vividly: Marilyn Monroe, JFK, RFK, MLK, The Challenger crew, Kurt Cobain, JFK Jr and Diana. Moments seared on my memory, far clearer than family. I can remember where I was, what I was doing, how I felt. It's been a while, and I hope the next one is Trump.

by Anonymousreply 360October 18, 2018 3:21 AM

As I’m sure it has been said repeatedly in this thread, he was so hot it was unfair.

He was so gorgeous you’d want to smack him in his perfect face.

I still can’t beleive he went for those shemales, Darryl Hannah, Carolyn Horseface and Sarah Jessica Horseface. I guess he had a type. Maybe he just played a lot of polo.

by Anonymousreply 361October 18, 2018 3:21 AM

Judith Somebody who wrote the Isak Dinesen biography wrote about an evening she spent with Jackie Onassis. She thought that sons, if the mothers are lucky, will take them to the opera when their old.

by Anonymousreply 362October 18, 2018 3:33 AM

He was much nicer than his bitch sister.

by Anonymousreply 363October 18, 2018 3:37 AM

He was an idiot. He had to take the New York bar 3 times. Like it's hard (I passed first time).

by Anonymousreply 364October 18, 2018 3:39 AM

He's was America's Prince!!!

by Anonymousreply 365October 18, 2018 4:11 AM

R364, yeah, yeah, I remember "The Hunk Flunks."

I remember watching the news in New York when he finally passed the Bar, and the reporter was saying to JFK Jr. "Mr. Kennedy, Congratulations, I am very happy," and John K. replied with a smile, "Yeah, so am I!"

Dude was totally down to earth and had a sense of humor.

by Anonymousreply 366October 18, 2018 5:52 AM

R357, I know.....it is so sad that he died young, but to take his wife and s.i.l. with him is so tragic I want to cry.

Didn't Lauren B. know that he didn't have much experience as a pilot? She seemed like a smart young woman.

by Anonymousreply 367October 18, 2018 5:54 AM

R361, I can see what he saw in Darryl Hannah.

She was very attractive back then, and was super-athletic.

And he didn't go out with SJP for long....

As for his wife, I heard that she was super nice.

by Anonymousreply 368October 18, 2018 5:57 AM
I can see what he saw in Darryl Hannah.

I can't.

by Anonymousreply 369October 18, 2018 10:23 AM

Jackson, I never beat her up like you did.

(I know! I know! Jackson strongly denies this!)

by Anonymousreply 370October 18, 2018 4:16 PM

I have to laugh when people say that he would have gone into politics.

He gave no indication of being into politics! Apart from his quasi-political magazine, George.

I mean, sure he had the charisma to be a politician, but apart from that, no!

by Anonymousreply 371October 18, 2018 4:18 PM

R351, I disagree!

Pretty boys normally don't age as well as fugsters, but he was gorgeous up to the end!

by Anonymousreply 372October 18, 2018 4:21 PM

I read in one of his biographies that he did indeed have ADD.

I wonder if the medications to treat this were as sophisticated then as they are now........

by Anonymousreply 373October 18, 2018 4:22 PM

R371 He would have gone into politics after the failure of George because what else could he have done? He was a failure at everything else he tried.

by Anonymousreply 374October 18, 2018 4:29 PM

R374, but wouldn't he have been miserable at governing once he was elected?

by Anonymousreply 375October 18, 2018 5:44 PM

Someone upthread complained that JFK Jr. had too much body hair....

I must disagree! From the shirtless photos I have seen, he had just the right amount!!

by Anonymousreply 376October 18, 2018 6:42 PM

I remember seeing a photo of him roller blading in NYC shortly after he had flunked the bar......

I remember thinking to myself, "Wow, if I had just failed the bar exam, I cannot imagine being able to be so energetic, carefree and insouciant..."

by Anonymousreply 377October 18, 2018 6:44 PM

Caroline is alive, has children, has been an Obama ambassador. JFK Jr and Jackie are dead. I say more power to the one who can figure life out and live. She loved her brother.

by Anonymousreply 378October 18, 2018 6:44 PM

I think poor JFK Jr. was hooked on adrenaline.

He seemed to enjoy a lot of high risk activities.

I fear it may have been the same for Chris Reeve.

by Anonymousreply 379October 18, 2018 6:50 PM

R378, all true, but this is Datalounge, so it is more fun to talk about her brother.

by Anonymousreply 380October 18, 2018 6:50 PM

R380 Absolutely-- but to read the ugly comments about Caroline, I felt I had to speak up.

by Anonymousreply 381October 18, 2018 7:00 PM

Caroline and John were fighting when he died about Jackie's Martha's Vineyard estate and what to do with it.

by Anonymousreply 382October 18, 2018 8:41 PM

He was average looking at best, and had zero sex appeal.

I never understood the fascination with this dumb-as-a-rock manchild.

by Anonymousreply 383October 18, 2018 11:01 PM

R383, you'll have to post some pics of men you think are hot if you expect anyone to do anything but roll their eyes at such an outrageous statement.

by Anonymousreply 384October 18, 2018 11:02 PM

How tall was he really? I remember Geraldo Rivera, who's not terribly tall, boasting he was taller than him. And he's clearly a god deal shorter than Trump as evidenced in R356's link.

by Anonymousreply 385October 18, 2018 11:38 PM

Love this Youtube vid of JFK Jr. walking around NYC.

Love how he and his friend patiently wait for the tourist to finish taking her photo.

Love even more the lady with the stroller who just stops and stares.

He is gorgeous with that actress cherry on the sundae of likeability.

R386 here again.

I meant "extra" not actress.

My bad.

by Anonymousreply 387October 19, 2018 12:04 AM

He was just stupid or he wouldn't be dead. Who takes off at dusk and flies over water without being instrument rated? A dope, that's who.

by Anonymousreply 388October 19, 2018 12:14 AM

God bless him. Some people can pack an entire lifetime of experience into 37 years. He was one of those people.

by Anonymousreply 389October 19, 2018 12:35 AM

Well, here's an interesting photo...

R388, I mean, the first thing I thought was, "He never would have gotten a pilot's license if his mom had still been alive."

:(((((

by Anonymousreply 391October 19, 2018 3:01 AM

R389, nah. He should have lived long enough to sire a John F. Kennedy III.

Don't you think?

by Anonymousreply 392October 19, 2018 3:02 AM

R390, you wish!

by Anonymousreply 393October 19, 2018 3:03 AM

Coulter, sjp. Not sounding good.

by Anonymousreply 395October 19, 2018 5:57 PM

by Anonymousreply 396October 19, 2018 6:02 PM

What is "seeded"?

by Anonymousreply 398October 19, 2018 8:39 PM

He had a beautiful body and face, which both were splattered all over Long Island Sound.

by Anonymousreply 399October 19, 2018 8:49 PM

JFK Jr was.sexy. And masculine. He also REFUSED to run for Senator of NY to allow Hillary her chance. He likely would have gone for the Governors office instead.

1985 - Mel Gibson 1986 - Mark Harmon 1987 - Harry Hamlin 1988 - JFK Jr.

The first four People's "Sexiest Man Alive" winners (not to be confused with "Sexiest Man Dead" of course) were really handsome.

Now, it seems like every every guy in Hollywood with an A-List career gets to win this award.....

by Anonymousreply 402October 20, 2018 12:16 AM

Here is the complete list:

Nick Nolte?
