See inside for links, vote below and then discuss.

Here is Julianne, who clinched the Emmy for this scene below. (btw the audio is not that great)

Anne Heche as Vicky/Marley

Heche, no contest. The characters she played were much more memorable, first of all. She was captivating to watch.

by Anonymousreply 3June 10, 2014 3:28 PM

[quote] The characters she played were much more memorable, first of all.

Yeah but Julianne is the one with four Oscar nominations.

by Anonymousreply 4June 10, 2014 3:30 PM

Celestia? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

by Anonymousreply 5June 10, 2014 3:32 PM

Julianne Moore is incredible.

by Anonymousreply 6June 10, 2014 3:35 PM

What the hell has that got to do with anything, r4?

by Anonymousreply 7June 10, 2014 3:35 PM

Anne Heche, of course. God, how I loved Vicky and Jake. And I never believed Jake could rape Marley. And Anne Heche played each of them so differently and so convincingly.

by Anonymousreply 8June 10, 2014 3:38 PM

r6, shame that her English accent sucked so hard. No Moore of that! Stand back and watch the true genius at work:

{quote] The characters she played were much more memorable, first of all.

That is the above quote. If the characters she played were so memorable, where are her Oscar nominations?

Or were you just referring to 'the characters' being Vicky/Marley.

Which is why the sentence is a bit confusing.

by Anonymousreply 10June 10, 2014 3:38 PM

To the moron at r10, performances on daytime soaps don't qualify for Oscar nominations.

by Anonymousreply 11June 10, 2014 3:42 PM

Ellen Wheeler owned that role Ann Heche merely rented it! Ann had a cunty vibe that cut through her performance. It was too crazy at times. Then I heard about her mental issues and it all made sense!

Julianne Moore was better overall but her English accent could have been better. Her mom was Scottish and JM is a dual US/UK citizen so you'd think she'd do better. I think she's a better actress than AH any day of the week.Oh and JM came back for the end of her P and G show. Ann Heche was too busy licking Ellen's clam and trying to make it big in Hollywood to come back to AW.

by Anonymousreply 12June 10, 2014 3:43 PM

R11 in the future be more specific, we are not mind readers.

When you said 'characters' some would think you meant characters post soaps.

by Anonymousreply 13June 10, 2014 3:45 PM

Actually r12, Anne Heche's agent is the one who rejected P&G's offer for Anne to return when Jensen was off sick for a few weeks. When Anne heard, she said she would definitely have come back to play Vicky. Cynthia Watros had just left an acclaimed stint at Guiding Light, having won the Emmy that year but agreed to fill in as a favor to P&G and many fans noted that she was a natural fit for Vicky and could have taken the role permanently.

R12 in fairness another actress was playing Vicky, and the original Marley was back on the show.

When AW was canned, Anne did give interviews saying how devastated she was.

She was receptive to pinch-hit, and was open to returning when Jensen Buchanan took medical leave.

But scheduling was a problem.

by Anonymousreply 15June 10, 2014 3:48 PM

Both are a pale imitation of the late, great Jacqueline Courtney's Pat/Maggie Ashley.

by Anonymousreply 16June 10, 2014 3:48 PM

There is no way in hell Frannie & Sabrina can be regarded as superior characters to Vicky & Marley.... Doug Marland or not.

by Anonymousreply 17June 10, 2014 3:48 PM

R14 No offense but that's bullshit! Not the story but Ann's spin on things. At that point of her career it would have been slumming for Ann Heche to do that role. JM was an established film star when she went back to say goodbye on ATWT. That was really classy of her.

R15 They had Jensen Buchanan and Ellen Wheeler playing each character at one point they could have brought back Heche as someone else. I don't buy Ann's spin on things. She might have been devastated but she wasn't going to be hired in films if she did a soap. Even pinch hitting on one. I wonder when she claimed all this.

There were too many Vicky and Marleys though. JB was the hottest, EW was the best actress and AH had a tinge of nuttiness about her.

by Anonymousreply 18June 10, 2014 3:58 PM

anyone else this fine AM?

by Anonymousreply 19June 11, 2014 2:15 PM

It's funny... watching those two clips you realize how much better soap opera acting was 20 or so years ago.

Last week I caught the end of an episode of "Days of Our Lives" while I was on vacation, and couldn't believe how truly terrible every person on that show is. Like sub-high school play bad. When I mentioned it at dinner, people just snickered and told me I was remembering things to be better than they were, but these clips prove otherwise. And yes, I know "Days" was always sort of a joke, acting-wise, but Jesus....its even worse now.

by Anonymousreply 20June 11, 2014 2:39 PM

There's no rehearsal anymore, R20. Actors get blocking, but that's it. And there's precious little time for actors to run through lines on their own -- an actor may film 20 scenes in a a day, from 10 different episodes. They're basically automatons moving into the correct camera position and reciting lines. DAYS has the worst actors, but they also have the most brutal schedule. Together, it ain't pretty.

by Anonymousreply 21June 11, 2014 2:48 PM

Both shows are/were P&G soaps, and they tended to hire 'actors', not models.

In the mid-90s they switches their stance due to shrinking ratings. They started hiring 'pretty people' and letting actors go that were not deemed 'hunky' enough.

Jason Biggs got the boot from ATWT for this reason, as did Justin Chambers (Grey's Anatomy) from Another World.

by Anonymousreply 22June 11, 2014 2:56 PM

These scenes where Anne Heche's Vicky was speculating about Cecile De Poulignac - a true delight. Look at how Heche and Anna Stuart spark off one another!

Wow, thanks R1. I love JM, but was unfamiliar with her previous incarnation as a soap star.

by Anonymousreply 24June 30, 2014 12:28 PM

can we get back to this?

by Anonymousreply 25October 18, 2014 5:01 PM

Anne Heche.

by Anonymousreply 26October 18, 2014 5:18 PM

Ellen and Anne were both great in the roles. Jensen, not so much.

As far as Anne vs. Julianne, I didn't watch World Turns and can't judge. I love Julianne as a rule.

by Anonymousreply 27October 18, 2014 7:44 PM

Hands down Heche was better than Julianne during their soap tenure.

However, Julianne's talent post ATWT has been far better than Anne's post AW.

Heche was simply spell blinding on AW.

by Anonymousreply 28October 19, 2014 12:20 AM

Duel roles? That's nothing.

by Anonymousreply 29October 19, 2014 12:24 AM

Sing it ,sister.

by Anonymousreply 30October 22, 2014 1:55 AM

Anne Heche is the most talented actress ever to appear on a soap opera. Only rivaled perhaps by Cynthia Watros (who also played Vicky temporarily)

by Anonymousreply 31March 1, 2015 8:03 PM

R22, [italic]Justin Chambers[/italic] wasn't [italic]hunky[/italic] enough? For whom?

MADD needed her eyes examined.

MADD also needed a swift kick in the cunt, banning Andy Dixon.

by Anonymousreply 33March 1, 2015 8:20 PM

R32 that Jill Farren Phelps who was unsatisfied with Justin Chambers

This was his replacement Kevin McClathy

He is now a drama professor at Ohio State, while Justin Chambers is a star on primetime

Thanks, R34. Do you also know why Justin Chambers got the boot so quickly on Cold Case?

by Anonymousreply 35March 1, 2015 9:07 PM

Nope no clue R35

by Anonymousreply 36July 12, 2015 12:03 AM

Bette Davis in Dead Ringer and Lindsay Lohan in Parent Trap, sillies.

by Anonymousreply 37July 12, 2015 12:16 AM

anyone else?

by Anonymousreply 38December 20, 2018 1:36 AM

Anne and Julianne were and are great.

Sometimes it's luck, sometimes it's match of material. Very little in Anne's film or TV career has ever matched her talents as well as Vicky/Marley did.

While Julianne has had many chances to play roles that show off her talents well.

by Anonymousreply 39December 20, 2018 1:52 AM

Julianne won an Emmy for her dual role. But the two best soap stars to do double characters were David Canary (Adam/Stuart, AMC) and Martha Byrne (Lily/Rose, ATWT). The worst were Adrienne Frantz (Amber / April, B&B), Victoria Wyndham (Rachel /Justine, AW), and Jennifer Landon (Gwen / Cleo, ATWT).
