I got a bad performance review yesterday :(

It was very disconcerting. I can't believe someone would ever talk to me in that way. I've never been criticized like this before. I thought I was doing great. I was going into the office everyday thinking I was killing it. If they didn't think I was killing it, why didn't they sit me down and talk to me about it instead of letting me walk around everyday thinking I was made of awesome? I really don't know what more they want from me. I'm already giving 100%. Isn't it enough that I come in everyday and try my best? If that's not good enough for them then I don't know what is.

And the worst part is that they not only did this to me on a Friday, thus ruining my weekend, but they also did this to me during my birthday month. Now every time I think of my birthday I'm going to think of this. Thanks for ruining my special day, work.

The only person more mad about this than me is my mom. She's going to call my manager first thing Monday morning to have a talk with him. Hopefully they can arrange a face-to-face conference and get my grade changed.

Ugh, this is so frustrating. I've never felt this bad before. My self confidence has really taken a hit. I don't know if I can even go back to work to face everyone if this doesn't get sorted out :( Is this what all performance reviews are like? If so, I don't think I can endure another one. This is my first one and I never thought it would go like this. I hate work. I don't ever want to work again.

by Anonymousreply 86April 18, 2019 10:57 AM

Imagine! They had the nerve to tell you you were self-centered and entitled!

by Anonymousreply 1April 13, 2014 1:06 AM

I think we have too many of the millennials are stupid and delusional threads around here, OP. Don't you?

by Anonymousreply 2April 13, 2014 1:09 AM

After the "My sister's wedding" threads, I guess it's to be expected that someone would get excited and would want to repeat their success/failure. But it's a little too soon for that, OP--wait a few days and try again, OK?

And try not to tip your hand so much next time.

Less is more.

by Anonymousreply 3April 13, 2014 1:12 AM

Birthday Month? What are you, 12?

Twat.

by Anonymousreply 4April 13, 2014 1:15 AM

Aries or Taurus?

by Anonymousreply 5April 13, 2014 1:18 AM

Five people don't know gullible is not in the dictionary.

by Anonymousreply 6April 13, 2014 1:20 AM

You had me until your mom showed up.

by Anonymousreply 7April 13, 2014 1:21 AM

OP, "everyday" is an adjective, not a noun. Please use "every day" when referring to your stumbling around cluelessly.

"Awesome" is an adjective as well. People are not "made of awesome."

The rest of your troll post makes it clear that these items are not intentional symptoms of your fictive adolescent speaker. Don't overreach when attempting a troll thread.

And most of all, when presuming such a thread, make it about something humorous and satirically apt. Ridiculing people resembling yourself is more pathetic than fun.

by Anonymousreply 8April 13, 2014 1:29 AM

This is a joke right??

by Anonymousreply 9April 13, 2014 1:30 AM

No, r9. His mom really called his supervisor to get his grade changed.

by Anonymousreply 10April 13, 2014 1:32 AM

If this isn't a joke the only one stupider than OP and his mom is the idiot who hired him in the first place.

by Anonymousreply 11April 13, 2014 1:45 AM

I would think someone who thinks this could even possibly be real is much, much stupider, r11.

by Anonymousreply 12April 13, 2014 1:46 AM

1/10

by Anonymousreply 13April 13, 2014 1:49 AM

I feel ya OP. Mine is due next week and it doesn't look promising. My direct supervisor thinks I'm doing fine, but he's second in command and the big cheese, well, she's not happy with me, and most of the people in our department. She's a raging perfectionist who doesn't know how to give praise. It happens. Unless you have another job lined up, you will have to stick it out. It does suck if it affects your pay raise, but it's a buyer's market out there, still. I don't think you are entitled...when our livelihood is threatened, it makes us a little insecure. You will be ok.

by Anonymousreply 14April 13, 2014 1:57 AM

[quote] The only person more mad about this than me is my mom. She's going to call my manager first thing Monday morning to have a talk with him.

I've actually had an employee's mother call me so she could complain about me to me

by Anonymousreply 15April 13, 2014 1:58 AM

OP is much too precious to have a job. But I must agree that it sucks to work for a living.

by Anonymousreply 16April 13, 2014 2:02 AM

Corporations are giving almost every bad reviews...NO RAISES! Except for the 1%.

by Anonymousreply 17April 13, 2014 2:08 AM

My boss refuses to let me watch Golden Girls and Designing Women while I'm at work. I'm going to HR and let them know that he's a homophobic prick and that he'd better back the fuck off.

by Anonymousreply 18April 13, 2014 2:09 AM

R8 in theory I agree with everything you posted. Except I will be using "made of awesome" but only sarcastically.

by Anonymousreply 19April 13, 2014 2:14 AM

[quote]I think we have too many of the millennials are stupid and delusional threads around here, OP. Don't you?

Fuck you, R2. Who said I was even a millennial??

[quote]But it's a little too soon for that, OP--wait a few days and try again, OK?

Bitch, you think I could time my review? Tell it to my boss. He's the one with bad timing. Uh, hello? Birthday month.

[quote]You had me until your mom showed up.

It wasn't my idea to have my mom get involved but she always has to try to fix things. I would prefer she not but what could you do?

[quote]"Awesome" is an adjective as well. People are not "made of awesome."

You sound about 80 years old.

[quote]If this isn't a joke the only one stupider than OP and his mom is the idiot who hired him in the first place.

Agreed. My boss is a stupid shithead.

[quote]1/10

What, you're giving me my performance review again? I already told you I just got one, fucker.

[quote]I've actually had an employee's mother call me so she could complain about me to me

Did it work? Did you change the grade?

by Anonymousreply 20April 13, 2014 2:38 AM

The only bad performance in this thread, OP, is your rather anemic attempt at spinning yarns.

by Anonymousreply 21April 13, 2014 2:39 AM

R20, Alyson Hannigan is still ugly.

by Anonymousreply 27April 13, 2014 5:49 AM

Well this is clearly an EST, but in reality, no one should ever be surprised by their performance review. They should be verbally warned or just a conversation along the way if they are doing poorly. A formal review should not be the first time anyone hears they have been fucking up.

by Anonymousreply 28April 13, 2014 2:03 PM

looks like you had an Extra Special Time on Friday.

[quote]No one should ever be surprised by their performance review. They should be verbally warned or just a conversation along the way if they are doing poorly. A formal review should not be the first time anyone hears they have been fucking up.

Amen -- this was a big reason I left my previous job. My supervisor was the type who tried to be your buddy instead of your boss, and I had no clue whatsoever that he had any problems with my performance until review time rolled around. Not only did he let me have it with both barrels but he took away some of my duties. (My original supervisor, OTOH, had a reputation as a hard-ass who didn't care if you liked her or not, but she gave me an excellent review much to my surprise.)

I was shocked but I didn't let on; instead, I quietly began looking for something else. Luckily, I found my current job just a couple of months later, but if I hadn't, I know he'd have fired me eventually.

But I've been consistently amazed how often you can tell someone they are fucking up and they never seem to hear it.

At my last job my asshole sociopath boss brought up things in the first review that I worked there that he had NEVER brought up with me before. I was completely blindsided. What I realized about halfway through it was that the review wasn't about my performance, it was about how he had his thumb on his assistant. It opened my eyes big time.

It took me three more years to get out of that job, I spent that entire time looking for another one and the process almost killed me. I was smart enough to get into therapy and on antidepressants about six months before I got another job. I just wish I had thought of it long before. I'm still fucking damaged from his mind games and manipulation. I don't hate a lot of people but he's at the top of that list.

by Anonymousreply 36April 14, 2014 12:15 AM

OP is so obviously trying to make fun of young people, but he has failed miserably.

by Anonymousreply 37April 14, 2014 12:29 AM

Believe it or not, this is actually a current trend in today's millennial workforce. The New York Times did an article about it. Parents are constantly getting involved in their children's work lives, calling their bosses and even showing up at the office.

by Anonymousreply 43April 15, 2014 12:01 AM

[quote]Adults don't have birthday months. Most adults would even like to avoid the their birthday.

Says you. I just had a birthday year!

by Anonymousreply 44April 26, 2015 6:11 PM

I'm constantly getting calls from mad parents every time I give any kind of feedback to my employees. They're always like "who are you to tell my child what to do? " Uh, I'm their boss, it's my job to tell them what to do.

by Anonymousreply 45January 29, 2016 5:57 PM

Cute OP I'll never read a thread again that's more than four sentences.

by Anonymousreply 46January 29, 2016 6:01 PM

This did not happen, but it's cute. You just went too far to be believable, OP. I like the "made of awsome" line. It's innovative. Congrats for that, OP.

by Anonymousreply 47January 29, 2016 6:12 PM

Life sucks. Big fucking time.

by Anonymousreply 49January 29, 2016 8:40 PM

True or not, this sort of thing happens more than once in a blue moon. I worked in a decent-sized place that was notorious for what came to be known as management by review. I heard zero criticism for a year, occasional praise... and got chewed on a decent bit in the review.

(I did make what seemed like an obvious point: How does it help anyone if these things aren't discussed as they develop?)

I came to learn that a non-trivial number of other people that had exactly the same experience. Whether people had that experience or not, essentially everyone there detested the management and hell yeah the good people left because of it.

by Anonymousreply 50January 29, 2016 8:52 PM

Go sit in your car in the parking garage.....and jerk off. That will help things.

by Anonymousreply 51January 29, 2016 8:56 PM

This. Never. Happened.

by Anonymousreply 52January 29, 2016 9:06 PM

Corporations, they intend to make everyone feel uncomfortable...so that a raise is never expected. Just feel happy to have a job! A workers revolt is in order. Don't try to do a good job, a good job will never get you a raise but blackmail of some kind, might.

I get a bad performance review every day. You think I care? Nope!

by Anonymousreply 58January 30, 2016 12:58 AM

Did you just discover Jill and her period, and you want to share with everybody? Pro-tip, hon: we already know all about it.

by Anonymousreply 63January 30, 2016 1:58 AM

Well, yeah, I assume this is a troll post, but then again my nephew told me that a guy fresh out of college brought his father to a job interview at the nephew's company--and Dad helped him answer most of the questions.

by Anonymousreply 64January 30, 2016 2:29 AM

sorry, OP, failure is singularly a part of life. you don't LIKE it, but it is inevitable, just the facts.

go on a walk, think about "WHY" and simply be a better person.

no one of worth succeeds forever.

R32, R51, R52, and R66 are the only long term DL'ers on this thread. It's truly sad to see how far this place has fallen in recent years. In the golden era of DL, OP would have been eviscerated with hilarious bitchiness and dry wit within 10 posts.

Liar R69. This thread proves that DL, is a mere shell of its former glory. The only 'really' good, active thread right now is the one on Truman Capote. Some good gossip over there.

Used to work at this job where i would always get the highest reviews, but treated like shit all the time.. was only there for 3 years however it felt twice as long... one of those places where later you think and wonder why you worked there for as long as you did!... horrible place... within the very 1st week a incident happened and i should have listen to the huge red warning light signal in my mind saying "leave quit now!" ... however you know once you get a job after awhile looking for one, your mind doesn't think clearly... ..

remember how they were all so so nicey nice to me once i put my 2 week notice in, with my immediate boss reply after i gave him my notice, stating "so you think it's time for you to leave huh?" INSTEAD (because i always got the greatest reviews) of them saying "what, your quitting, what's going on, why, talk to us, tell me what the problem is!).. so what does that say?!.....

I could LITERALLY write a book on how much shit i took there! stuff that would BOGGLE everyone's mind! as the saying goes, you trained your bosses how to treat you, by the way you act and i guess i acted like a nice doormat! Still makes you wonder "do they truly not know or remember how they treated you? or think that you (meaning me) forgot and that i thought "oh, that happened last year, or that incident was 2 years ago!" really? REALLY?....

i remember my very last day, and my boss's boss, coming up behind me while i was on a computer and telling me how he is now leaving for the day and how they want to thank me for my years of service and blah, blah, blah" and (yes, childish, but i couldn't think of any other way to get back at this person, one of the persons who treated me like crap over the years) how i just turned around and said "uh huh" and then turned away to go back working on the computer!... i could feel that person just stand there and was thinking "uh, did this guy just blow me off!!!"...

finally that person, my boss's boss walked away... in reality? anyone else would have told that person to fuck off!

to this day i have never and will never go into that building again and it's been 9 years ago now...

by Anonymousreply 76April 17, 2019 6:08 PM

Well if it is your job to create fantasy threads, I agree with them.

by Anonymousreply 77April 17, 2019 6:12 PM

They just don't want to give you a raise. Find your old reviews or request them.

by Anonymousreply 78April 17, 2019 6:15 PM

Fall of 2008 my brother died, and right on the Friday of my birthday, the very same day I returned to work after hospital visits and funerals, I got laid off.

by Anonymousreply 79April 17, 2019 8:11 PM

The moms always show up for millennials at work. You wonā€™t believe how many calls I get from moms that their son or daughter is too sick to go to work, needs more time to complete a project, needs deadline extensions, asking for raises, promotions, etc. Itā€™s like their mom is their agent negotiating for them.
