It's not easy to get close to actors you love and Latter Days seems to have a cult following. I must say I don't know that much about his work outside of Latter Days but I remember guys going crazy over him at various gay forums.

I can easily understand their decision to leave the craziness of showbiz behind them and start a cheese charm. Sounds very idyllic. It is also very possible that Max understood that he's not going to be the next Tom Cruise but would only be a struggling actor so this was his way out.

JGL might have worked well in that role, too, but Steve was perfect in it. The film itself is not that well made although I understand how important it is to many people.

He WAS LATTER DAYS. His portrayal of Elder Aaron was so genuine in its purity and innocence despite his shortcomings as an actor, that you couldn't help being smitten. And he was beautiful. He still looks good in the picture. It is a pity that he no longer acts, but in the article he made it sound as if he was acting in order to get the funds to retire to a dairy farm. He just decided to do it much earlier. I do wonder if something caused him to burn out on Hollywood so quickly.

I always wonder what happens to people like Sandvoss who have some nominal success, but certainly don't work enough to make a living year-in and year-out, especially if you have to live in LA or NY.

It must be tiring to face the constant rejection coupled with living like you're in college well into your thirties. More so, when the people you know aren't stuggling to pay rent and buy food, as Sandvoss's Harvard friends would likely not be.

It's a shame Latter Days didn't come out today instead of 2003. His career would have been different, but to be fair, his other co-stars from that movie and other things he did, with the exception of JGL, their careers didn't exactly explode, either. Brandon Routh got Superman, but where did that take him? Arrow on the CW.

Latter Days didn't end his acting life completely---he's been doing bit roles, short film and supporting roles constantly (if erratically) ever since. True, that doesn't always put food on the table, but a smart and sensitive man like him probably needs to keep artistic outlet in his life to stop him going batshit, especially if he's now stuck working farms in the conservative provinces. It is a treat to see him onscreen, and he seems sweet, relatable, down-to-earth, thoughtful and funny, as well as emotive and yes, gorgeous in a pretty and blushing yet rugged way.

Here's one he did about 3 years after LD, Waning Moon. It's well-written and tense but a quick and fascinating watch. Steve cries and there's a lot of gasping and tears generally (v. indie horror). The twist isn't all that hard to figure out but stylishly executed and unflinchingly explored, and I love the interplay between the two leads, as it's unclear if they're telling the truth about their feelings for one another (SLIGHT SPOILER: Sandvoss' character claims not to care all that much about Kartheiser's, despite his self-sacrificing actions and persistence in keeping watch over him, and the same goes for Kartheiser's, who says he want Sandvoss' out of his life, yet allows Sandvoss' to remain close by and to effect destruction on his life, all because he cannot say goodbye?)

I didn't really think of Sandvoss as possibly gay at all until I saw this short. It's not anything particular, but there's something about his performance that has a very queer slant? May just be the way he's playing it, though. He's a smart actor and a Harvard grad so it might just be Talent I'm seeing. Or it's Vincent Kartheiser's androgyne/femmey as hell appearance that's skewing the radar.
