Richey James Edwards from the Manic Street Preachers
They never found him.
Last seen leaving the Embassy Hotel in London, the 27-year-old got in his car to drive home but never made it. His vehicle was discovered two weeks later but there was no trace of Edwards. In 2008, he was officially “presumed dead.”
Sad.

Did something prompt this post?
I find the Manic Street Preachers story, image, bd lyrics interesting but I'm not into the music.

On one of the pages that someone linked to yesterday, there was also a link for "10 Celebrities who went missing." Edwards was one of them.

He had been hiding out in the wilds of Malaysia, but had finally decided to return to Europe and was on Flt 370.

And my friend Julie talked him into returning, r3. What a cunt!

Surprised anyone here even knows this band at all.
Loved their first and third albums, beyond that, they're very much hit or miss.

He had been hospitalized for depression, anorexia and self-harm not long before he disappeared. The British music press made fun of his obvious mental health problems while he was with the Manics. They treated it like a circus act and a joke.

I'm glad I just found this thread. Like r5 I'm surprised anyone knows about them, but unlike him I love Manics. Any other fans? Are you going to see them on this tour?

Is it true he was never found?

Never found r8. Declared presumed deceased in 2008.

He was a nihilist who couldn't have been saved. I always fantasised that Rickey & James Dean Bradfield were a couple. They were so gorgeous together.

Interesting r10. It's Richey and Nicky that people usually fantasize about. The glamour twins. They certainly played it up.
Personally, just give me JDB and I'm happy.

R7 Most certainly am. Motorcycle Emptiness is one of my all time favourite songs.
His disappearance resonated much more with me than Kurt Cobain's death.

Sorry r12. But I guess you're right. They are hit or miss sometimes. For every great album, there is a crappy one. I have high hopes for Futurology. Also agree about Motorcycle Emptiness.

r10 he's one of the few "but he's really alive!" disappearances I believe might actually be on an island somewhere.
I find it odd there was no note, no communication to the band or anyone, and no clothes or remains ever found.
The place he is supposed to have gone into the water was a known suicide spot.
At the time, I remember reading that usually some trace of the victims would be found downriver. He certainly could've killed himself, but it's odd.

Sometimes I think other bandmates know where he is,maybe even have heard from him but keep a vow of silence.

What state was his car found in? Crashed? Parked by the side of the road? Abandoned in a seedy neighborhood?

Manics are going to tour North America. If you count five dates as a tour (4 US + one in Toronto), but those few American fans should be happy.

" Culture sucks down words..."
Richey and Wire were so gorgeous and glam. I lost track of the Manics in the early naughts.
