Joyce DeWitt

How did this woman ever become famous?

It's hard to think of someone less remarkable than Joyce DeWitt. Her pineapple hairdo was far worse than Ann "Hold Me David I'm Scared" Romano's bundt cake hair.

And while Chrissy was supposed to be the dumb one, Janet/Joyce always had this vaguely dumb/confused look on her face.

by Anonymousreply 69December 21, 2020 9:12 PM

Janet was reasonably smart considering the show.

Joyce was more attractive than Suzanne.

by Anonymousreply 1February 18, 2014 1:23 AM

There's already a 3's Company thread going. Please post there instead.

by Anonymousreply 2February 18, 2014 1:26 AM

And such a bitch, too.

by Anonymousreply 3February 18, 2014 1:26 AM

Someone should start an "If's A Living" thread.

by Anonymousreply 4February 18, 2014 1:30 AM

There's already an active one, r4.

There's one of those already, R4. Let me direct you to it, so R2 doesn't start twitching about it in a control-freak moment.

The only women less remarkable than Joyce who mysteriously led their own sitcoms are Susan Clark and Joanna Kerns.

by Anonymousreply 7February 18, 2014 1:35 AM

JOYCE!

You've got a great pair of L'Eggs!

by Anonymousreply 8February 18, 2014 1:37 AM

Honey, I don't need to be more famous -- I'm rich.

by Anonymousreply 9February 18, 2014 1:43 AM

Joyce is very sweet. I have a picture of the two of us I took with my cellphone last December but I'll never share it with datalounge.

Joyce was actually an accomplished theater actress before landing the role of Janet. She also has a masters degree from UCLA.

Her only problem was that she took the shows issues to heart. If she hadn't voluntarily left the business for a number of years, she easily could have a steady career doing supporting roles.

by Anonymousreply 12February 18, 2014 1:53 AM

I have a drama degree from Carnegie Mellon. It doesn't make you charismatic or compelling to watch.

by Anonymousreply 13February 18, 2014 1:57 AM

R10, does she have pants on?

by Anonymousreply 14February 18, 2014 1:58 AM

She had a cute little body in R11

by Anonymousreply 15February 18, 2014 3:11 AM

Her hair do was a fro, OP, and Bonnie Franklin's was a bowl cut. Are you extremely hungry right now or something?

by Anonymousreply 16February 18, 2014 3:48 AM

It actually became more of a shag.

by Anonymousreply 17February 18, 2014 4:35 AM

Yes, r17, she was copying MEEEEEE!!!

by Anonymousreply 18February 18, 2014 4:40 AM

Around here, the name is "DL Fave Joyce DeWitt" or "DL Legend Joyce DeWitt."

Do check out her annoying website, won't you?

Don't I know it, r20! Even for an iconic talent like me!

by Anonymousreply 21February 18, 2014 5:15 AM

My god, she was the glue of that show. Between Jack's self-centered horniness and Chrissy's dippiness. She was a talented comic actress.

Do you people know anything about comic acting?

by Anonymousreply 22February 19, 2014 8:45 PM

Joyce is a Shakespearean trained actor.

by Anonymousreply 23February 19, 2014 8:48 PM
Joyce is a Shakespearean trained actor.

Trained by Shakespeare himself!

by Anonymousreply 24February 19, 2014 8:49 PM
Yes, [R17], she was copying MEEEEEE!!! by: Liza w a "Z"

Didn't Liza fall off the wagon shortly after Joyce ripped off her look?

by Anonymousreply 25February 19, 2014 9:01 PM

R22 Thanks for your input, Joyce.

by Anonymousreply 26February 19, 2014 9:17 PM

I am sure this has said before, but Kris K is her hair and eyeliner clone. I couldn't believe it the first time I saw KK, I hadn't seen 3'C in years and immediately thought of Joyce. Who knew she would be a style icon?

by Anonymousreply 27February 19, 2014 9:20 PM

Joyce was always forcing her tits to bounce too. I guess she was trying to keep up with Somers.

by Anonymousreply 28February 19, 2014 9:21 PM

R28 that was comic acting, not tit-bouncing!!

by Anonymousreply 29February 19, 2014 9:25 PM

Remember the episode where she was passed over for a promotion because her co-worker Chloe had gigantic tits?

by Anonymousreply 30February 19, 2014 9:28 PM

Arthritis?

by Anonymousreply 31February 19, 2014 9:53 PM

Exactly, arthritis! That's the only gag I remember from that show, but it was a c lassie!

by Anonymousreply 32February 20, 2014 1:47 AM
How did this woman ever become famous?

You would be amazed how many unqualified people manage to thrive and get ahead just by showing up everyday and being on time.

by Anonymousreply 33February 20, 2014 1:51 AM

Welcome to the conversation, Mr. Bomer at r33.

by Anonymousreply 34February 20, 2014 1:54 AM

I could hardly tolerate watching that show because of Suzanne attempts at trying to be a sexpot. She really was not pretty and I could only imagine (no, better not) what her Las Vegas revue was like..probably demonstrating the "Thigh Master" to the drunks in the audience.

by Anonymousreply 35February 20, 2014 2:04 AM

Has anyone seen my new one-woman show at the Fresno Community Playhouse? It's called "Joyce to the World." I wrote the script myself.

by Anonymousreply 36February 20, 2014 2:08 AM

It promises to be the most exciting one-woman show since Rain Pryor's "Fried Chicken and Latkes."

by Anonymousreply 37February 20, 2014 2:17 AM

Damn, you homos hate on everybody. How the hell can someone have rage over the celebrity of Joyce DeWitt?

by Anonymousreply 38February 20, 2014 2:26 AM

Oh dear, Shelly!

by Anonymousreply 39February 20, 2014 2:32 AM

Joyce wasn't completely flat you know.

by Anonymousreply 40February 20, 2014 2:37 AM

Here's a screencap from Joyce's screen test for Fallon on Dynasty.

by Anonymousreply 41February 20, 2014 2:38 AM

It really shows how much free time to waste everybody has when there's a thread hating on Joyce de Witt.

by Anonymousreply 42February 20, 2014 2:44 AM

You tell 'em, Joyce!

by Anonymousreply 43February 20, 2014 2:47 AM

Is "Chrissy or Janet" just a later version of "Ginger or Mary Ann"?

by Anonymousreply 44February 20, 2014 2:47 AM

Home sick today and watched the behind the scenes TV movie on 3C. Allen Hammill comes off the worst, portrayed as a totally amoral, narcissistic sleeze.

by Anonymousreply 45February 21, 2014 10:26 PM

Joyce dated Henry "Bombastic" Buskin, Johnny Carson's lawyer.

by Anonymousreply 46July 27, 2014 12:07 AM

she was much more natural in the early seasons and then her acting became amateurish and shrieky much of the time.

Perhaps she was overcomepensating for the horrible scripts. They all over acted like they were doing a junior high school play in the last year or so.

Except for Knotts who remained the master of comic timing.

by Anonymousreply 47July 27, 2014 12:29 AM

The writing did get worse R47

by Anonymousreply 48July 27, 2014 12:37 AM

She has played both Maureen in RENT and Mama Rose in GYPSY in the last 15 years or so. I pray someone bootlegged that shit and uploads it to YT.

by Anonymousreply 49July 27, 2014 12:49 AM

God forgive me but I so enjoy the hatred for BF whose ODAAT might be the nadir of Norman Lear sitcoms who I consider the nadir of tv producers. I'll take the CBS hayseed of the 60s any day.

Funny thing is I enjoyed Franklin in Applause a lot and enjoyed her Carrie in Carousel. But something happened between Jones Beach and LA and she must now spend eternity paying for it.

by Anonymousreply 50July 27, 2014 12:53 AM

the 3'a Co scripts were so bad towards the end I am surprised John Ritter agreed to do the spinoff.

by Anonymousreply 51July 27, 2014 1:13 AM

Joyce would have made a fantastic Fallon! If only...

by Anonymousreply 52July 27, 2014 1:32 AM

who the hell ever found somers attractive?

by Anonymousreply 53July 27, 2014 8:50 AM

^
who the hell ever found somers attractive?

We did!

by Anonymousreply 54July 27, 2014 9:48 AM

She was the Jan Smithers of Three's Company.

by Anonymousreply 55July 27, 2014 3:07 PM

R52 a broomstick with a wig would've been better than Emma Samms.

by Anonymousreply 56July 27, 2014 3:49 PM
How did this woman ever become famous?

It was the 1970s. Being a moderately attractive, somewhat cunty independent woman was in.

by Anonymousreply 57July 27, 2014 3:54 PM

So many jealous, bitter and spiteful little Queens here.

Maybe get off your lazy butts and even TRY to do something important?

by Anonymousreply 58July 27, 2014 4:41 PM

Leave Joyce alone you vindictive freaks.

by Anonymousreply 59August 19, 2014 12:14 PM

The next who? Crazy bitch.

by Anonymousreply 60August 19, 2014 1:08 PM

Joyce I nominate you for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge!

by Anonymousreply 61August 19, 2014 1:42 PM

How come no one told me Joyce had the premiere of her comeback vehicle, My Boyfriends' Dogs, on the Hallmark Channel last night???

Luckily it's repeating right now. Let's all watch and show Joyce we support her.

by Anonymousreply 62October 19, 2014 5:09 PM

I watched it Saturday night, R62.

Love Hallmark Channel original movies - they're sweet, simple, and reassuring goodness.

[italic]Will our heroine find true love?[/italic] I don't know. There could be just about any outcome. Who knows?!

by Anonymousreply 63October 19, 2014 5:29 PM
I could hardly tolerate watching that show because of Suzanne attempts at trying to be a sexpot. She really was not pretty

I think she was very cute. I guess you cant see it

by Anonymousreply 64December 21, 2020 5:27 PM

And you thought your comment was worth bumping a thread from 2014?

by Anonymousreply 65December 21, 2020 6:59 PM

The 2015 Troll has moved back to 2014.

by Anonymousreply 66December 21, 2020 8:49 PM

Janet was a good character when the show first started. But by the end, Joyce started playing her first, which didn't really work.

She was good friends with David Letterman, and she dated Johnny Carson's lawyer, Henry Bushkin.

by Anonymousreply 67December 21, 2020 8:56 PM

*"started playing her ditsy" that should read.

by Anonymousreply 68December 21, 2020 8:57 PM

While I think she was integral to the show’s success, it annoyed me that she was always trying to stifle laughing. Watch any episode and you’ll see what I mean.
