Will Neil Patrick Harris in Hedwig be any good?

Will the angry trannies attack him for taking the role?

by Anonymousreply 49April 19, 2018 12:25 PM

He's wonderful in everything he is in, so he will be more than "any good."

by Anonymousreply 1February 13, 2014 4:31 AM

Will his performance be eligible for Tonys this year?

by Anonymousreply 2February 13, 2014 4:33 AM

r1=fanboi

by Anonymousreply 3February 13, 2014 4:33 AM

yes r2

by Anonymousreply 4February 13, 2014 4:35 AM

Why don't you fuckers post this shit in the theatre thread? There's only been 129 of them over the years.

by Anonymousreply 5February 13, 2014 4:38 AM

"Why don't you fuckers post this shit in the theatre thread?"

With that attitude R5, I'd say you're the angry clench.

by Anonymousreply 6February 13, 2014 4:54 AM

r5=controlling MARY!

by Anonymousreply 7February 13, 2014 5:07 AM

apparently he did a secret show at some club a few weeks ago with glitter all over his face and he ripped his shirt off and belted out some serious shit. He's committed.

by Anonymousreply 8February 15, 2014 12:54 PM

He is an entertainer. He gives all when he performs. He is uninhibited. He has not, to our mind, ever given a bad performance. He shall be awarded with a Tony.

by Anonymousreply 9February 15, 2014 1:03 PM

Hedwig isn't in and of herself a flamboyant exotic creature. She's what other people have made her and is trying to make the best of it. I think NPH can play that.

by Anonymousreply 10February 15, 2014 1:05 PM

NPH is going to WERK

by Anonymousreply 11February 15, 2014 1:20 PM

R11, but will he twerk???

by Anonymousreply 12February 15, 2014 1:26 PM

NPH is an irritating manchild and his performance will surely be an approval-seeking, self-indulgent, mannered horror show.

Also trannies will attack him because trannies attack everything because they are mentally ill.

by Anonymousreply 13February 15, 2014 1:31 PM

NPH will be great, too bad the show is a piece of shit

by Anonymousreply 14February 15, 2014 1:48 PM

[quote]but will he twerk???

Honey, if there are flashbulbs going off that attention seeking whore will do anything!

by Anonymousreply 15February 15, 2014 4:14 PM

Well, NPH has an angry inch in real life, so he's been in character his whole life.

by Anonymousreply 16February 15, 2014 4:16 PM

The Patrick-Burtka-Harris household just seems so exhausting.

They can't even sit down to a meal without flash bulbs going off and photos of what they are eating going up on social media.

I feel sorry for the kids. Even Madonna and Paltrow's kids don't have to be "on" as much as the twins.

by Anonymousreply 17February 15, 2014 4:20 PM

NPH has a rather fine penis, R16, which you'd know if you actually were "the huz."

And yes, R3, I'm a "fanboi." So fucking what? I should pretend to hate a famous, attractive, out gay man just to be a DL coolkid? You're not as cool a kid as you think.

by Anonymousreply 18February 15, 2014 4:25 PM

R18, how have you see his penis?

He must have thought you were a photog and flashed you.

by Anonymousreply 19February 15, 2014 4:28 PM

In "The Paris Letter," R19. Unfortunately, the pics that used to be available have been removed from the internet. Don't know why. Doogie has nothing to be embarrassed about.

LOOK AT ME!

by Anonymousreply 21February 15, 2014 4:43 PM

Actually, the character of Hedwig is not trans, but gay/drag queen.

The "angry inch" is what's left after an operation performed in East Germany, before Hansel/Hedwig's marriage to an American GI.

Six inches forward/and five inches back...

I loved how tattered and worn the feel of the piece was at the Jane St.; for me, it's going to be interesting to see if the piece feels too pretty & expensive for the story. Also: the girl playing Yitzhak looks a bit delicate to be a man/playing a woman/playing a man. (Miriam Shor was outstanding in the original).

I think NPH will give it his all, and I expect his performance will be excellent.

I also note that note of the press photos have John Cameron Mitchell in them; how involved is he in this revival?

by Anonymousreply 22February 15, 2014 4:53 PM

Miriam Shor is outstanding in everything she tries, R22. She's someone whose presence gets me to watch a show.

by Anonymousreply 23February 15, 2014 4:58 PM

[quote]I also note that note of the press photos have John Cameron Mitchell in them; how involved is he in this revival?

NPH's ego was probably too huge to have a mere creator try and horn in on his act.

by Anonymousreply 24February 15, 2014 5:00 PM

Nice to see the Miriam Shor appreciation. She is a one-of-a-kind, intriguing actor, and as good in the movie version as anyone.

Has a biological woman ever taken on the title role AND succeeded? Ally Sheedy (god bless her) tried back late in the initial run, but 1) she cannot sing or move and 2) she is a hot box of crazy, so she was dismissed early on.

If this Hedwig succeeds, it would be interesting to see NPH followed by a capable actress.

by Anonymousreply 25February 15, 2014 5:09 PM

Is the character a man or a woman, R25?

by Anonymousreply 26February 15, 2014 5:12 PM

Supposedly, JCM met both Ally Sheedy & Martha Plimpton at Sundance when he was working on the screenplay of the Hedwig film, and he was interested in either of them being the first woman to play Hedwig during the original run. Sheedy took the role...sometimes. We had tickets to see her at least twice, and both times, the understudy (Donovan Leitch) was on. As noted, she did not finish her contract. Plimpton would have been interesting.

NPH has also said he will have no understudy...but I wonder if he rally got sick or injured, whether JCM would step in.

by Anonymousreply 27February 15, 2014 5:14 PM

Interesting, R27. Plimpton would be game. No idea if she can sing, but she's ballsy enough to make it work.

I saw Donovan Leitch do it and he was surprisingly good.

by Anonymousreply 28February 15, 2014 5:19 PM

Is NPH gunning for a Tony?

by Anonymousreply 29February 15, 2014 5:20 PM

"NPH has also said he will have no understudy...but I wonder if he rally got sick or injured, whether JCM would step in."

Are understudies for Broadway shows not required by Equity? I know many Off-Broadway shows open without understudies, but I thought there was an Equity rule that after a certain number of weeks, or if they extend or whatever, Off-Broadway shows were required to hire understudies... so I always sort of assumed that Broadway shows were required to have them from the beginning.

by Anonymousreply 30February 15, 2014 5:21 PM

[quote]NPH has also said he will have no understudy...

No way is NPH going to miss out on all those flash bulbs.

by Anonymousreply 31February 15, 2014 5:34 PM

Does anyone know why John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask never collaborated again?

Their work on Hedwig was so wonderful.

by Anonymousreply 32February 15, 2014 5:43 PM

sexy or sexless ?

by Anonymousreply 33February 17, 2014 12:56 AM

cover of Time Out this week is sort of hilarious

by Anonymousreply 34February 20, 2014 8:49 PM

weird story in the NY Times but I am intrigued

by Anonymousreply 35February 23, 2014 9:50 PM

NPH fellating a bottle.

ok saw Hedwig last night… he's more than just good

by Anonymousreply 37April 5, 2014 1:13 AM

Creepy show about a mentally ill pedo. I'm gay...this has nothing to do with me, or anyone I know. It's homophobic.

by Anonymousreply 38April 5, 2014 1:19 AM

Plimpton can sing, and would be very good. Dunno if I'm going to see NPH or not.

by Anonymousreply 39April 5, 2014 1:29 AM

he's beyond good. I was skeptical. NPH is really excellent, as is the production. A surprise.

by Anonymousreply 40April 6, 2014 8:47 PM

This show will close within 3 months, guaranteed.

by Anonymousreply 41April 6, 2014 9:19 PM

"pedo"? I think not. Hedwig is a gay man, pressured into a sex change operation in order to marry an American man. He might be trans, because he continues to live like as a woman after the marriage falls apart. And Tommy Speck aka Gnosis is a teenager when they meet (presumably over the age of consent). Though he has to be pretty damn stupid to think Hedwig is an actual woman. (He's not presented as the brightest kid around).

by Anonymousreply 42April 7, 2014 12:15 AM

R29, who on Broadway is not? What a stupid question.

by Anonymousreply 43April 7, 2014 12:28 AM

Saw it in previews last night. NPH was really very good, although occasionally was in and out of the faux german accent. he lost weight while rehearsing for the role, but looked hot. He pulled off some of the wigs better than others, but rocked the heels. Lena Hall was excellent. The audience was filled with Hedwig groupies and NPH groupies. I predict a full run and lots of $$ for this production.

by Anonymousreply 44April 11, 2014 8:46 PM

R38 = fucking idiot.

by Anonymousreply 45April 11, 2014 10:20 PM

bump

by Anonymousreply 46July 11, 2014 4:13 PM

NPH

by Anonymousreply 47November 11, 2014 9:17 PM

With Neil in it, how can it NOT be good?

by Anonymousreply 48November 11, 2014 10:20 PM

I agree R48
