John Waters's film Pecker
I know this is not considered one of his best but my god this film gets me every time. PERFECT cast. SO many classic lines.
Martha Plimpton- jesus she kills me in this. Larry! No tea bagging at the Fudge Palace!
Mary Kay Place!
Fucking bug eyed Little Christie with her sugar addiction.
Bess Armstrong as Mrs. Klompus.
I had not seen this in 7-8 years and DVR'ed it last night.

I'm glad you included the word "film" in the headline, because I really do not want to think about John Waters's pecker.

It's my favorite post-"Hairspray" Waters film. BTW, John's mother just died.

Brendan Saxton III is HOT in this. Whatever happened to him?

Were any of the "trade" actual actors?

Sorry to hear about Mrs. Waters. She raised a fine son.
Waters has said it's autobiographical, so there's that aspect to it, since I happen to think he's the greatest living American filmmaker (yeah, suck it, Woody.) The first half of Pecker is fun but it turns sour with all the New York Gallery stuff. This is the film that taught the world outside of gay bars what tea bagging is, so for that reason alone it's a national treasure.
These are the films I think are Waters' best work, in descending order of wonderfulness.
1. Desperate Living 2. Female Trouble 3. Pink Flamingos 4. Hairspray 5. A Dirty Shame 6. Polyester 7. Mondo Trasho
Pecker, Cry Baby, Serial Mom, Cecil B. Demented and Multiple Maniacs are okay if you're already a Waters fan. They all have their moments.
Pecker: the grandmother and her ventriloquist act with the Virgin Mary Cry Baby: Iggy Pop taking a bath in a washtub Serial Mom: the obscene phone call to Mink Stole Cecil B. Demented: the gang showing their classic film director tattoos Multiple Maniacs: The opening shot of Lady Divine posed as an Ingres odalisque. Also LOBSTORA

I didn't enjoy it very much. IMO, it's not one of his better films. Although I did enjoy the premiere and meeting some of the cast.

We used to do the shopping for other people thing. Was surprised to see it turn up in the film.

OMG
I LOVE PECKER I loved the original Hairspray movie as well, but there is something so hilarious and so true to life (well, parts of it) in PECKER. They definitely need to reboot this or Broadway. I LOVED the NY art scene, b/c it satirized those artsy fartsy NYers who think their shit doesn't stink.
Wasn't the comment "stain goddess" not "stain queen?"
What did happen to Pecker's friend? I loved his sexy dance.
Pecker's Dad also was hot.
This is a very funny movie. People who might not "get" Waters' earlier work would enjoy this.
I also love the two girls on the bus early on posing for Pecker. And Meemama and Little Chrissy are priceless!

NO WAY does "A Dirty Shame" belong on that list.

Is Pecker the one with shopping for other people? John Waters stole that idea from me!

Brendan Sexton is one of those lightning-in-a-bottle young actor discoveries that you knew wouldn't have a big career but is far more talented than any of the assembly-line kiddie stars Disney churns out. Both he and Heather Matarazzo just have this spark that you couldn't manufacture.
