Before he got the gig on How I Met Your Mother the datalounge theater queens were saying that Neil Patrick Harris was not only gay but dating an actor named David Burtka. This was proven to be true when he officially came out.
Things datalounge told you that DID turn out to be true

A year or so before the economic crash of 2008, a few DLERs, much to the derision of many ("the sky is falling!"), told us that a economic collapse is coming.
They talked about how it would have a terrible impact, that the cause was related to the housing market, and that it would take years to recover from, if it recovers.
I'm not claiming that it was only these DLers who knew that.
My point is, they were so fucking right.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | February 8, 2014 4:47 PM |
Someone posted that Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman would be breaking up because their contract was ending, then like a week later they announced their split.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | February 8, 2014 5:07 PM |
I think we have some really good book and film critics here whose reviews are fair and reliable.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 8, 2014 5:32 PM |
The problem, Della, is that people on DL are always predicting economic collapse. Long before 2008 and long after. They are bound to be right every now and then.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 8, 2014 5:54 PM |
Yes, what R4 said.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | February 8, 2014 6:05 PM |
r4, the level of specificity (housing market) in those pre-2008 crash posts set them apart from the kinds of prediction you post about.

by Anonymous | reply 7 | February 8, 2014 6:38 PM |
That's because it wasn't really a prediction Della. LIBOR had a crisis in August 2007 where it increased 5% in a couple hours. Bush and Blair fudged it by adding $2 trillion in liquidity to the banks, but instead of cleaning up their houses, the banks carried on as if nothing had changed, making the crash of 2008 worse than it needed to be. In essence, the worldwide seize up of credit markets had already happened, and so it wasn't really a prediction but a slow unfolding of inevitabilities.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | February 8, 2014 7:02 PM |
What does LIBOR stand for, r8?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | February 8, 2014 7:06 PM |
Della--if you don't know what LIBOR is, you should not be speaking on the acuity of financial market predictions.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | February 8, 2014 7:10 PM |
London Interbank Offer Rate, the rate at which banks lend to each other. It would only seize up if NO bank in the world was willing to lend anymore at current interest rates, representing either a PANIC (for some) and/or in this case lending limits across the world were exceeded as real estate price drops cut the values of banking assets. In other words, when LIBOR seized up it meant that the crisis had already spread to every bank in the world and that it was an accomplished fact that could no longer be stopped.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | February 8, 2014 7:18 PM |
r10, Where do I speak, in this thread, about the acuity of financial market predictions? I'm not an economist and never claimed to be one.
I'm happy to defer to your greater knowledge about that.
I do, however, stand by my post at, r1. The OP asked for things Datalounge told you that DID turn out to be true.
I recall reading the back and forth on those threads. I never posted in them but I read them. The persons warning, in specific terms, about an economic crash turned out to be right.
Who knows? Maybe those posters worked at Bear Stearns or Goldman Sachs.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | February 8, 2014 7:22 PM |
Thank you, r11.

by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 8, 2014 7:30 PM |
Yes. Seriously, r17.
I wish you'd get bored with stalking/trolling me. Lord knows,I would.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | February 8, 2014 7:44 PM |
DL is rarely right about anything.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | February 8, 2014 7:47 PM |
Stalking you? I have no idea who you are, though apparently you have an elevated sense of your own importance.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 8, 2014 7:51 PM |
Then, by all means, ignore me, r20.
Sheesh.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 8, 2014 7:54 PM |
No, dear. That's not how it works. If you say something stupid, I get to respond even if I am not your personal stalker.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | February 8, 2014 7:56 PM |
Whatever, r22.
You're not driving me away from this site. I've been here way too long. So insult me, name-call, what have you.
I'm taking my own advise and ignoring you.
Sorry, OP.

by Anonymous | reply 24 | February 8, 2014 8:05 PM |
What makes you think I have any interest in driving you away from this site? I can only imagine that as an idiot who signs posts you generate a lot of hostility, but you are insane if you think it is all coming from me. I don't know who you are.

Jesus R25 - simmer the fuck down and back off of Della.
Stop being such a bitch - she didn't claim anything except that people predicted the financial collapse.
Grow the fuck up.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | February 8, 2014 9:13 PM |
I haven't done anything other than disagree with her in a perfectly typical way and she has accused me of stalking her and trying to drive her off of DL. I point out that I don't even know who she is and I'M the one who needs to calm down and back off? Right.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | February 8, 2014 9:20 PM |
R30 - she mentioned that because there is a freak on this board who tries to accuse her of offensive and uncharacteristic things.
And your responses were out of line - we love Della here. You're being especially cunty for no reason.

[quote]And your responses were out of line - we love Della here. You're being especially cunty for no reason.
Fuck you. You may love Della, but I have no idea who she is and being accused of obsessively stalking someone is a perfectly good reason to get cunty.

I remember that post, and how detailed it was. As I recall if the divorce wasn't filed by a specific date the pre-nup would be void under California law and it would cost Cruise a fortune.

Fair chance then that what's been posted here about Beatty and Nicholson losing their faculties is true.
To answer OP: that Sydney Pollack was circling the drain. Quite a while later his death was announced.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | February 9, 2014 1:40 PM |
We had some good ones:
The emergence of crowfounding (Indie Go-GO, Kickstarter, etc) for big project films.
We predicted that Brandgelina would stay together all this years(while every fucking psychic was saying that they would split)
Katrina, down to the name! Damn! That was a good year of predictions.
Matt Bomer was gay.
AC was gay
NPH was gay
Tom Daley was gay

That Ben Maisani would be the one that Anderson Cooper would be settling with and that he would come out for.

Somebody posted around February 2013 that Valerie Harper had a brain tumor and only a few months to live. They claimed to work at Cedars-Sinai, IIRC. A couple of weeks later, Val went public with her "terminal" illness...but then again, she's still here. So is this a "I read it on Data lounge and it turned out to be true" or a "DIDN'T turn out to be true" item? Hmmmm...
by Anonymous | reply 44 | February 9, 2014 2:31 PM |
Then again, r44, Every.Single.Male Celebrity. under age 50 (and many politicians of all ages) have been reported as definitely being gay here on DL over the years.
So it's only normal statistical probability that the guys you mention did, in fact, come out as gay sometime.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | February 9, 2014 3:02 PM |
"Every.Single.Male Celebrity. under age 50 (and many politicians of all ages) have been reported as definitely being gay here on DL over the years."
Yeah, but people knew specific details about guys like Lee Pace and NPH (like the names of their bfs). It wasn't just some poster randomly saying "I've heard he's gay!"
by Anonymous | reply 46 | February 9, 2014 4:23 PM |
You have to admit it's kind of a stupid topic.
The implication, although not directly stated, is that predictions made on DL are somehow worth something.
As Della's example clearly points out even a stopped clock is right twice a day. (Although Della seems to be backing off her original implication that the prediction was somehow unique or useful.)
I can't remember the first time I heard the housing bubble would be linked to a severe economic crash. It was before I bought my home - which was in 2003.

That's way cool.

The Jim McGreevey/Golan Cipel affair, even naming Cipel weeks or months before anyone knew who he was.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | February 9, 2014 7:56 PM |
I remember that, R50. It was remarkably detailed and showed up here long before it showed up anywhere else.
It's only a matter of time for cockgobbler Aaron Shock.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | February 9, 2014 8:17 PM |
R45 is an idiot. Obviously there are crazies here who try to say that completely random actors are gay based on no evidence, but that is not what was happening with Bomer, Cooper, NPH, etc. Those were not just "luck."

[quote]People also had specific stories about John Travolta cruising steam rooms and hitting on masseurs
Yeah I remember lots of stories about him before they broke in the media.
Of course it isn't confirmed but the rumors of the Liam Neeson/Bradley Cooper affair was posted here before there was any public reason to believe there was truth to it.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | February 9, 2014 9:38 PM |
yes
by Anonymous | reply 57 | February 10, 2014 2:38 PM |
Re: Anderson Cooper and Ben Maisani, the posters on DL who said that Ben was the one guy that would change AC's life were definitely right, but all those who predicted that their relationship wouldn't last and who kept creating threads claiming that they had inside info that they had actually broken up have turned out to be totally wrong.
So it's a toss up when it comes to DL's reliability for predicting things, especially when some people's own agenda are taken into consideration.
