Julia Roberts's "I love my life" statement when presenting Denzel with his Oscar

She grabs and hold him when he gets up to the stage and, after his speech, she jumps on him for the entire exit.

She always seems so fake.

by Anonymousreply 1January 19, 2014 8:05 PM

Shameless. This was the defining moment that I realized she was a total cunt.

by Anonymousreply 2January 19, 2014 8:22 PM

She is the living embodiment of narcissism.

by Anonymousreply 3January 19, 2014 8:29 PM

I'm not bothered by Julia as much as I am by Denzel's win. The guy has been playing the same boring tough guy character for the last twenty years now and Training Day was an awful movie.

by Anonymousreply 4January 19, 2014 8:30 PM

Supposedly Washington won for "Training Day" because Russell Crowe had a hissy fit after some show he was on cut him off before he had a chance to read a poem. Crowe supposedly cornered the guy responsible and acted like a dick. It's said he was the frontrunner to win the Oscar for "A Beautiful Mind" until that incident happened. If so, then the Oscars are truly a crock. I thought the award was supposed to be for giving the best performance. So what if Crowe had a tantrum? His performance that year was a lot better than Washington's.

I remember Halle Berry won that year too, for a laughably hysterical performance in a rotten movie, "Monster's Ball." I think SHE won that year by stripping naked and having Billy Bob Thornton knead her naked buttocks and dive into her muff onscreen.

by Anonymousreply 5January 19, 2014 10:00 PM

I remember that Crowe incident and I think it happened in London. I remember reading some newspaper article about Aussies being humiliated by his behavior (even though R.C. is a Kiwi).

Julia made that Denzel award all.about.her. She is lucky that he was so classy about it since she wouldn't have DARED to pull a stunt like that with R.C., Sean Penn, Terence Howard, Mark Wahlberg or any other actor who wouldn't put up with her narcissistic fuckery.

by Anonymousreply 6January 19, 2014 10:12 PM

Julia Roberts gives white trash a bad name.

by Anonymousreply 7January 19, 2014 10:14 PM

Well, I guess R5 has the middlebrow view covered.

by Anonymousreply 8January 19, 2014 10:15 PM

It was also the bug Hollywood got up its ass about giving black performers Oscars.

by Anonymousreply 9January 19, 2014 10:17 PM

Pitiful that some if you actually would throw hate at a person over something seemingly so trivial. Why are you even focusing on something so minor that is ancient history. Pathetic, dudes.

by Anonymousreply 10January 19, 2014 10:17 PM

Denzel Washington has given some remarkable performances. Training Day was not one of them. In fact it may be his worst performance ever, hammy and unintentionally hilarious.

The real question while watching this clip if what the fuck happened to Ethan Hawke's face? He has a big shiner on his cheek. Did Uma slug him over one of his many affairs?

by Anonymousreply 11January 19, 2014 10:17 PM

Still not as cringeworthy as F. Murray Abraham's ass kissing of Geraldine Page at the 1986 oscars.

by Anonymousreply 12January 19, 2014 10:21 PM

The story goes that Julia was campaigning behind the scenes for him like mad that year. She was calling in favors from friends left and right. Denzel had also been snubbed for Malcolm X and The Hurricane. The year he lost for Malcolm was the year Pacino won his makeup Oscar for Scent of a Woman.

Crowe didn't completely implode until Cinderella Man, which he would have been nominated for had the phone incident not occurred.

by Anonymousreply 13January 19, 2014 10:21 PM

ALWAYS making it about HER.

by Anonymousreply 14January 19, 2014 11:59 PM

Movie stars like attention and lots of it. Even the ones who adopt a cool, slightly bored pose.

by Anonymousreply 15January 20, 2014 12:07 AM

I'm not bothered by it. It seemed genuine.

by Anonymousreply 16January 20, 2014 12:11 AM

God I hope African American people no longer visit this site, these denigrating comments are an embarrassment.

If you listen to some DL posters African Americans never deserve any recognition.

Someone posted a Family Guy goof on Julia. Here it is again.

Yes, R17. Denigrating and niggardly. Shameful.

But then you are drawing your own racist conclusion, hardly merited by an actual reading of the posts in this thread.

Do you ever get tired of your game?

by Anonymousreply 19January 20, 2014 12:27 AM

What the fuck are you talking about R19, your post doesn't even make sense.

by Anonymousreply 20January 20, 2014 12:39 AM

It was because Julia wa FUCKING HIM. It very nearly destroyed his marriage.

by Anonymousreply 21January 20, 2014 12:44 AM

No one said anything like that on this thread. You're just slinging he horseshit.

by Anonymousreply 24January 20, 2014 1:03 AM

She has enormous spaces between her teeth. Did they not have orthodontists in Georgia?

by Anonymousreply 25January 20, 2014 1:16 AM

Because she had to have the spotlight on HER ! She couldn't let DW have his moment, even when recieving an Oscar.

She also sounded a bit condescending. Like in My Man Godfrey, when the air-head says: 'I have a protégé, at last!" Or something like that.

by Anonymousreply 26January 20, 2014 1:23 AM

Julia Roberts screaming "I love my life" from the Oscar stage was Marie Antoinette at her worst. It was disgusting. At that moment, Julia Roberts demonstrated that she had no humility, graciousness or class.

Perhaps she did not mean to be so obnoxious, but she was.

by Anonymousreply 27January 20, 2014 2:05 AM

How do these Oscar campaigns work? People can't think for themselves and have to be swayed to vote for a person? Aren't there about 4,000 members of the academy? Are they all watching that closely for some gaffe to change their vote? It seems odd. I keep hearing Weinstein runs the town. Is he throwing money around ie gifts and parties?

by Anonymousreply 28January 20, 2014 2:06 AM

People tend to forget it was Oprah and Poitier who purchased those Oscars for Denzel & Halle that year.

They even had a private booth set up above everyone else to "look down on" all the action.

This is one of the reasons Oprah was snubbed for The Butler.

by Anonymousreply 29January 20, 2014 2:13 AM

Re Denzel's win: Some people think that his behavior at the BAFTAs may have turned voters against him. He reportedly slammed a TV executive against the wall and let rip with a foul-mouthed tirade because his acceptance speech had been cut short.

But, also, many saw Washington as due for a Lead Actor win even though he already possessed a Supporting Actor Oscar. Julia Roberts was the most prominent celebrity who led the brigade to get Denzel the win, saying she "couldn't live in a world where Denzel didn't have a Best Actor Oscar."

Furthermore, that was the same night that Halle Berry became "the first black woman to win Best Actress," the documentary MURDER ON A SUNDAY MORNING (about an African-American teenager who was wrongfully convicted of murder) won Best Documentary, and Sidney Poitier (the first black man to win Best Actor) was given an honorary award. Some people feel the Academy wanted to make a statement with giving Denzel the win, and by doing so also made history when Halle and Denzel became the first black actors to win in the lead category in the same year.

by Anonymousreply 30January 20, 2014 2:15 AM

she presented the best picture at last weeks Critics Choice awards and managed to make it all about her not winning the best supporting category and for nobody to tell her mom about it because she couldn't find the awards show on her tv.

by Anonymousreply 31January 20, 2014 2:18 AM
Julia Roberts was the most prominent celebrity who led the brigade to get Denzel the win, saying she "couldn't live in a world where Denzel didn't have a Best Actor Oscar."

Please tell me she didn't really say that?! Ugh, Hollywood is so fucking vile and fake.

by Anonymousreply 32January 20, 2014 2:20 AM

Ugh really R31? What I want to see is the camera panning to the faces in the crowd during JR's Me Time on stage.

by Anonymousreply 33January 20, 2014 2:21 AM
She has enormous spaces between her teeth. Did they not have orthodontists in Georgia?

Funny you say that 'cause after Roberts won for ERIN BROCKOVICH, her childhood dentist made the news and several write-ups in People magazine and the like because of a promise he'd made long ago, that if any patient of his ever won an Olympic medal, a Heisman trophy, an Oscar or other prestigious award, he would give a tube of toothpaste to every child in Smyrna, Georgia (Roberts' hometown). He kept his end of the bargain, which ended up costing him a couple thousand bucks, and that's why he was featured on all the news shows. I know 'cause I watched a segment on Entertainment Tonight.

by Anonymousreply 34January 20, 2014 2:21 AM

BTW: I meant to say that it was "Crowe's behavior at the BAFTAs."

by Anonymousreply 35January 20, 2014 2:22 AM

R30 here, also forgot to add that Crowe had swept the precursors, winning Critics Choice (BFCA), Golden Globe, SAG, and BAFTA, so that's why his Oscar loss is very suspicious and why people have wondered if it was due to his assaulting the BAFTA producer, Roberts' internal influence, the Academy wanting to make a statement, or all of the above.

by Anonymousreply 36January 20, 2014 2:26 AM

R33, I was dying for them to cut to Meryl Streep, who was probably rolling her eyes at her antics.

by Anonymousreply 37January 20, 2014 2:26 AM
She has enormous spaces between her teeth. Did they not have orthodontists in Georgia?

No, they don't have orthodontic veterinarians in Georgia or anywhere else

by Anonymousreply 38January 20, 2014 2:31 AM

Julia never used to have those spaces between her teeth. It's the same with Shannen Doherty, who suddenly has a huge gap dead center.

I think Julia should go back to wearing the dark lipstick and big, frizzy hair again. The dark lipstick accentuates her pout and the big hair is just her. Her look has been too plain for too long.

by Anonymousreply 39January 20, 2014 2:34 AM

R32, I managed to find a featured article from People magazine (dated February 19, 2002) which was about Roberts' immense support for Denzel:
"He should be on his third Oscar by now, and that might not be enough," Roberts raved in the current Newsweek magazine in a profile of Washington. The two starred together in 1993's "The Pelican Brief," and Roberts, 34, considers him "the best actor of this generation, hands down . . . I cannot absorb living in a world where I have an Oscar for Best Actress, and Denzel doesn't have one for Best Actor."
Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 40January 20, 2014 2:35 AM

I know Julia THINKS she's being so supportive, non-racist and equality minded but her reaction encapsulates the pandering, condescending, infantalizing attitude liberal whites in power display to people of color. Because even though it was Denzel's moment she and the Hollywood elites managed to make it about themselves and their "generosity" and "understanding". They treat talented, accomplished, educated men and women as if they were competitors in the Special Olympics.

People like Julia and the Hollywood Establishmnet(who after HOW many decades and great performances STILL hadn't awarded a Best Actor/Actress to a black performer and now were just SO overjoyed) don't even recognize how narcissistic and ultimately White Supremacist it is.

by Anonymousreply 41January 20, 2014 2:38 AM

She just exudes entitlement, doesn't she? Ugh.

by Anonymousreply 42January 20, 2014 2:38 AM
I know 'cause I watched a segment on Entertainment Tonight.

You must feel proud to be so informed on the important issues.

by Anonymousreply 43January 20, 2014 2:40 AM
"I cannot absorb living in a world where I have an Oscar for Best Actress, and Denzel doesn't have one for Best Actor."

O.M.G.

by Anonymousreply 44January 20, 2014 2:42 AM

R41 sums it up. JR is aggressively clueless.

And yes, Julia making it known that SHE was pulling the strings for Denzel, and SHE was calling attention to his talent really reminds me of statements by members of the U.S. governments (I can't recall who) decades ago when they called native Hawaiians "Our little brown children." How nice.

by Anonymousreply 45January 20, 2014 2:42 AM
If so, then the Oscars are truly a crock.

Wow, well look who finally joined us at the grown-up table. No shit Sherlock.

by Anonymousreply 46January 20, 2014 2:45 AM

or maybe she was just being a supportive colleague.

by Anonymousreply 47January 20, 2014 2:49 AM

R41, it's also interesting to note that went Roberts went out to present Best Actor she made a comment about kissing Sidney Poitier backstage.

She really tries too hard. I think because her family was friends with Martin Luther King and his wife, and their children attended the Roberts' acting school. The Kings even paid the hospital bill when Roberts was born. So I think Roberts feel she has to live up to that civil rights image or something.

by Anonymousreply 48January 20, 2014 2:52 AM
she presented the best picture at last weeks Critics Choice awards and managed to make it all about her not winning the best supporting category and for nobody to tell her mom about it because she couldn't find the awards show on her tv.

That's the thing with julia. If there is ever anything that isn't about her, she finds a way to make it about her

And she did ruin it for Denzel. You can bet Denzel's wife was PISSED off

by Anonymousreply 49January 20, 2014 2:57 AM

why isn't Julia helping her brother out in any way?

by Anonymousreply 50January 20, 2014 3:12 AM

you low lives, keep typing away in you're mother's basement.

I am still a big honkin' deal.

by Anonymousreply 51January 20, 2014 3:20 AM

She's a white trash homewrecker. Terrible actress. Abominable personality.

The niece is just like her with even less talent, if that's possible.

by Anonymousreply 52January 20, 2014 3:29 AM

She is just a girl. Talking to a boy. And asking him to love her life.

by Anonymousreply 53January 20, 2014 3:56 AM

OMG R53 so funny. She really is barfy.

by Anonymousreply 54January 20, 2014 4:02 AM

thanks, LOL.

She is the Kim Zimmer of movies.

by Anonymousreply 55January 20, 2014 4:08 AM

Thanks, r41. I like Julia Roberts, always have but that's 100% the truth.

by Anonymousreply 56January 20, 2014 4:12 AM

Julia Roberts had a goddamn nerve wearing a pink jumpsuit to an award show. A fucking jumpsuit!!

That proves she ain't gut no class.

by Anonymousreply 57January 20, 2014 4:21 AM

She stole a husband from a pregnant woman who had a stress induced miscarriage, allegedly.

She then wore a T shirt with the words A Low Vera to taunt the wife publically.

Years later she told Oprah she that she stood by the T shirt.

Nice lady.

by Anonymousreply 58January 20, 2014 4:26 AM

R29 I always thought it was Warren Beatty who got Berry her oscar.

by Anonymousreply 59January 20, 2014 4:34 AM

R29, Oprah did not attend that ceremony, but she did host a party where almost every notable woman of color was present, so I think she had an inkling.

by Anonymousreply 60January 20, 2014 4:41 AM

I meant to specify that it was an Oscar party where they watched the ceremony on TV.

by Anonymousreply 61January 20, 2014 4:47 AM

Julia exclaimed this because Denzel is a great friend of hers, and she was ecstatic to be there to give him an Oscar-which places him as the second African american to win two awards(sans lifetime achievement).

by Anonymousreply 62January 20, 2014 4:52 AM

R11 Rumor had it at the time that Ethan Hawk and Will Smith got into a fist fight that night.

In regards to the DW win, there were three African Americans nominated that year, DW, WS and HB. Spike Lee got into the act saying that if at least one of them didn't win then the Academy is racist. Crow was the front runner but then had the melt down at the BAFTA's so that got the AA off the hook to vote for DW.

by Anonymousreply 63January 20, 2014 5:38 AM

If Julie made Denzel's Oscar win all about her, then Sharon Stone shouldn't get a free pass for this embarrassing display.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 64January 20, 2014 6:16 AM

Sorry, Julie = Julia

by Anonymousreply 65January 20, 2014 6:19 AM

WTF was that, R64? XD

by Anonymousreply 66January 20, 2014 6:26 AM

R64, she wasn't that bad. Gere got up there and fucked around for two minutes saying basically nothing. Everyone who wins gets cut off in their speeches, but he gets up there and gets to go on and on and on for 5 and a half minutes

by Anonymousreply 67January 20, 2014 6:38 AM

Stone was horrible and even cut into Gere's speech. Even Julia shut up and let the winner speak

by Anonymousreply 68January 20, 2014 6:41 AM

R67, not that bad? She was screaming as she was going down the nominees list.

by Anonymousreply 69January 20, 2014 6:57 AM

I'm not a Caucasian; nor an African American. I could see that it wasn't about Denzel, really. It was about Julia, and how she didn't want Russell Crowe, the frontrunner, to win. So she used the race card. Afterwards, others jumped on the bandwagon, including NEWSWEEK.

I agree that Julia is as fake as a three dollar bill; although not in the sense the term is normally used to degrade us.

by Anonymousreply 70January 20, 2014 7:06 AM

Julia cozying up to Morgan Freeman at the SAGs:

by Anonymousreply 72January 20, 2014 4:45 PM

It's like she's on the lookout for narcissistic supply all day, every day.

by Anonymousreply 73January 20, 2014 4:51 PM

I whole heartedly disagree about Washington not deserving an Oscar for that role. He was amazing in Training Day. And I'm not a fan.

This shit happened several years ago. Find something productive to do with your time.

by Anonymousreply 80January 20, 2014 8:40 PM

Jeez Julia has been an indulged, pampered movie star for over 20 years, imagine that she'd be a bit full of herself.

The Sharon Stone clip is hilarious, she is obviously bombed or medicated and should kill the person who styled her. And why is Gere speaking in New Yorkese?

by Anonymousreply 81January 20, 2014 9:00 PM

R80 doesn't understand the concept of "gossip".

by Anonymousreply 82January 20, 2014 9:09 PM

What exactly does she mean by "I love my life"? A rather strange choice of words. I bet she is mortified in retrospect.

by Anonymousreply 83January 20, 2014 9:14 PM

I wonder what she would have said if Nick Nolte had won. I hate my life ? Her comment wasn't very nice for the other nominees.

by Anonymousreply 84January 20, 2014 9:26 PM

She means I made history happen. I got this black man an Oscar and I'm gonna climb him like a tree...and hump his stump.

by Anonymousreply 85January 20, 2014 9:35 PM

Julia was drunk. She became an alchie.

by Anonymousreply 86January 20, 2014 9:37 PM

"I love my life" is the narcissist's mantra.

by Anonymousreply 87January 20, 2014 10:31 PM

I think she just meant that she was so overjoyed that he won. In essence, Denzel won! I love my life!

by Anonymousreply 88January 20, 2014 10:40 PM

A non-narcissist might say something like, "Oh, this is great news!" or "A wonderful actor in every way ... Denzel W....." Instead, JR made it about herself.

by Anonymousreply 89January 20, 2014 11:09 PM

Denzel was insensitive the following year when he announced Nicole Kidman as the winner "by a nose." There were already people cracking jokes that she would win because of her prosthetic nose and it was douchey for Denzel to throw in that remark. Whatever happened to just reading the fucking winner's name and getting the fuck off the stage?

by Anonymousreply 90January 20, 2014 11:58 PM

R88.

If that is truly what she meant to convey then the correct statement should have been the more general:

"I Love Life".

by Anonymousreply 91January 21, 2014 12:08 AM

Ummm...I thought they hated each other.

by Anonymousreply 92January 21, 2014 12:12 AM

She made it more about her reaction to his win than his win. At the time I thought he must hate her but now I think - of course, they must have been fucking.

I wonder if she was crazy good in bed, or what, because for awhile there she was a real homewrecker and seemed to be able to get any guy. Danny Moder, I understand - he improved his lifestyle, although apparently his family were never crazy about Julia. But she was really rolling through the roster of famous men for awhile.

I actually really enjoy her movies. Not ones where she's acting or playing a character, but like Something to Talk about or My Best Friend's wedding. In both of those she did a sort of Streisand thing of casting a more attractive female co-star, too.

Movies where she acts or plays a character, she sucks (Steel Magnolias, Erin Brokovich).

by Anonymousreply 93January 21, 2014 12:24 AM

Denzel's homely old fart wife permits his cheating so there is no home to wreck.

by Anonymousreply 94January 21, 2014 12:26 AM

If you people bitching about her would quit plunking your money down to see her movies, we wouldn't have this entitled cunt to grace us with her superior presence on all these crappy award shows. I wouldn't be surprised if some of you actually went to see that Osage crap fest but it was for Meryl only, of course, right? The one and only film I tokerated her in was Steel Magnolias and only because she wasn't in it that much and she croaked.

by Anonymousreply 95January 21, 2014 12:50 AM

I find it so sad that none of these backstage fistfights were captured on HD video.

by Anonymousreply 96January 21, 2014 3:32 AM

by Anonymousreply 99January 22, 2014 10:32 PM

Oh R99, I loved that.

There are several clips around the same time that illuminate Julia's drinking problem.

My mom commented on how crazy Julia was acting and she rarely has a bad for anyone.

Looking back, I bet Roberts's mortified and her memory of that night is sketchy at best. Probably in a blackout. She fits the mold perfectly of an arrogant, narcissistic drunk. For some reason she can't cut herself off at the buzzed stage. Why do you think that is?

by Anonymousreply 100January 22, 2014 10:41 PM

Did anyone test R99's link? If it worked earlier, then someone has been busy scrubbing the Internet...

by Anonymousreply 101January 22, 2014 11:08 PM

No matter what the F Murray Abraham thing was still more offensive. At least she wasn't putting down other actors - she was just overly excited for the winner (whom she probably fucked).

I don't know how to upload YouTube on here but I love watching it for Anne Bancroft's "oh please" reaction to the "greatest actress ever" pronouncement.

by Anonymousreply 102January 22, 2014 11:36 PM

I'm so embarrassed for her. She's a real pill, as my mom would say.

I now fully understand why AnnE used to be compared to Julia Roberts.

by Anonymousreply 110April 18, 2015 11:26 PM

Denzel Washington's Oscar win for "Training Day" is usually on most "undeserving Oscar" lists. He did NOT deserve to win for that movie.

Halle Berry's Oscar win that year was equally undeserving.

As for Julia Robert...well, she's horrid. That's been known for YEARS. She's awful.

by Anonymousreply 111April 18, 2015 11:37 PM

It is a way of making it about her. She's probably not even conscience of doing it.

I've noticed Gywneth does that too. She always says, "my friend" Beyonce. or something like that.

Narcissists, it is their world after all. We just live in it.

by Anonymousreply 112April 19, 2015 2:33 AM

It is so sad that we live in a world that is so ignorant. I love that lady Mrs.Roberts and a good judge of character. And believe she is one of the realest people in the world. And as far as Denzel goes she has sincere love and respect for him and he did a hell of a job in training day as he does in most of his films. I love you Julia and if you have any problems with any of these hateful people get in touch. The for you Mrs. Bullock,I wish I could have that creep in your house. I love and pray for the two of you all the time and since I am unable to protect you lam sure he will. I love you and pray that happiness is a big part of your day to day life...Mr.Daran Elliott

The Oscars are completely political. Hitchcock never won an Oscar. Akiva Goldsman and Halle Berry have won Oscars.

Washington was passable in Training Day. I don't recall him ever being bad in anything.

But the movie is an obvious, prosaic bore. It's a good Oscar Film in other words.

by Anonymousreply 117May 11, 2015 7:37 PM

Julia IS America's Pretty Woman.

by Anonymousreply 118May 11, 2015 7:37 PM
It was about Julia, and how she didn't want Russell Crowe, the frontrunner, to win. So she used the race card. Afterwards, others jumped on the bandwagon, including NEWSWEEK.

I've wondered if Julia doesn't/didn't like Russell Crowe. When he won (the same night she did) she didn't even bother to clap. It looked odd 'cause everyone else around her was clapping, including her then beau Benjamin Bratt.

We know this r17. We only deserve our very worst to be shown and drummed into the brain of the public at every opportunity.
She's a real pill, as my mom would say.

Where does that phrase come from?

R121 he just told you, his mom.

by Anonymousreply 122May 11, 2015 10:57 PM

It is a subtle narcissistic way of making it all about her.

I've noticed when ever Gwyneth presents on awards show everybody is "my good friend" Beyonce or whoever.

Here is the SNL skit about the Oscars.

That was the night I started disliking her. I used to live in Smyrna, and I guess I was a bit of a homer when it came to Julie, but she went too far with that crap and exposed her narcissism for all to see. I think it's some sort of kismet that she has become so ugly in the past 6-8 years. Wile she was never beautiful, she did have a look in films like Steel Magnolias and Sleeping with the Enemy. She hit the wall big time in Erin Brockavich(sp?) and it's been downhill ever since.

by Anonymousreply 125May 12, 2015 6:05 AM

I just rewatched the Oscar clip on Youtube showing the announcement of the Best Actor winner that year.

As usual, the clip shows the faces of the nominees, waiting to hear the winner announced.

Then you hear Julia say "The Oscar goes to ... I love my life ... Denzel Washington."

Obviously to Ghoulia, the most important part of that statement was all about her. Denzel can wait to learn he wins because it's more important for JR to claim the spotlight as it's really all about HER!

by Anonymousreply 126May 12, 2015 3:50 PM

She did the same thing when she presented an Emmy or a Golden Globe. It's always all about her.

Hate this fucking narcissistic bitch.

by Anonymousreply 127May 12, 2015 4:36 PM
I bet she is mortified in retrospect.

And I bet you a $100 that she isn't.

by Anonymousreply 128May 12, 2015 4:44 PM

WTF, R124? That's a frau clip of babies laughing.

by Anonymousreply 129May 12, 2015 5:13 PM

In that ass-licking interview where she says she "can't absorb living in a world where Denzel doesn't have a Best Actor Oscar" she's actually dismissing every actor who's won a supporting award (including him). I wonder how much of Denzel's sticky spray her gums absorbed and how much went down her greedy gullet. Her pussy gobbles up every protrusion on any set she's ever worked on.

by Anonymousreply 130May 12, 2015 6:22 PM

Was she drunk?

by Anonymousreply 131May 12, 2015 6:28 PM

Really, r124? Now we know where you hang out...

by Anonymousreply 132May 12, 2015 6:30 PM

She was upstaging him, consciously or not.

by Anonymousreply 133May 12, 2015 6:45 PM

She's a very insecure person, which is why she was such a cunt to her sister.

I would not have wanted to have grown up in that family. Eric Roberts is just as bad, apparently.

by Anonymousreply 134May 12, 2015 6:48 PM

Remember when she gave out the directing Oscar to Clint Eastwood? She said happy birthday someone i think it was her maid. She can never just appear to read the names and announce the winner. Stupid twat.

by Anonymousreply 135May 12, 2015 6:50 PM

How awkward for his wife. Was that a big (conscious or unconscious) fuck you to his wife?

by Anonymousreply 136May 12, 2015 6:50 PM

I've always wondered if F. Murray Abraham's non-existent film career was due to that obnoxious moment awarding the statuette to Geraldine Page, and then I see the clip of it and remember how incredibly homely he is.

That was a face made for radio if ever there were one.

by Anonymousreply 137May 12, 2015 6:52 PM

I love when F. Murray makes that stupid statement and you can see Anne Bancroft plainly mouth, "Oh please" in disgust to whoever is setting next to her (probably Mel Brooks).

by Anonymousreply 138May 12, 2015 6:54 PM

I'd never noticed that before R138 thanks. I share her feelings. You can also see Lange say "Geraldine Page" before Abraham does. Really was so over the top.

by Anonymousreply 139May 12, 2015 7:08 PM

R135 IDK but iirc, she also ordered her kids to bed before she announced the winner of some such. I think she thinks this is endearing her to the little people, because as we all know, everyone just can't get enough of Julia! Her people must protect her from the reality that "regular people" are embarrassed for her.

by Anonymousreply 140May 12, 2015 7:09 PM

Julia's bizarre tribute to Kate Hepburn, where she pauses throughout and goes... "HEH, YEAH!" or "Oh yeeeeeah!" - Sean Penn's expression says it all, he looks like he wants to punch her in the mouth.

I bet habitual loudmouths just assume people are jealous of them when really, everyone is drained from said person sucking up all the energy.

Julia: it's not charisma when you're so damn loud that people are forced to react to you.

by Anonymousreply 142May 12, 2015 7:25 PM

Emma Thompson gets on my fucking nerves too, with her faux humility, playacting the buffoonish British quirk because she's thinks that's what will endear her to Americans. Pathetic.

Is there some reason that Vanessa Redgrave is chewing gum while looking like she's been snorting meth for five days in that clip, R143? She looks absolutely ghastly.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I was going through old threads and this one caught my eye, particularly the bit about some black (I presume) posters taking issue with others having an issue with Halle's & Denzel's wins that night. The accusation is that none of the posters want black actors ever to win, which isn't true. We've had other threads about "who should've won an Oscar" and many people have stated that Diana Ross in LADY SINGS THE BLUES should've won or Angela Basset in WHAT'S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT? should've taken it. Either one would've been worthy as "the first black actress to win Best Actress Oscar." But Halle's & Denzel's wins were politicized that year, and they barely eked out ahead in the final stretch.

There was also a climate of #OscarsSoWhite that season although it wasn't called that. Personally, Denzel deserved to win Best Actor but not for TRAINING DAY. I would've given it to hi for MALCOLM X. That was a masterful performance, IMO. As for Halle, I don't think she's ever given an award worthy performance, except Razzie. Even when she won an Emmy and Golden Globe for INTRODUCING DOROTHY DANDRIDGE, it was more to do with the subject matter than her actual acting, which was mediocre, even for a TV movie. The fact that Halle played the first black actress to be nominated for a lead Oscar and was awarded for it helped in her Oscar quest two years later. I wouldn't be surprised if some voters checked off her name as a tribute to Dandridge.

This is probably the same moment when I was starting to really hate her.

But, I have to say, that one thing that endears me to Julia Roberts is the fact that apparently she's a huge "Days of Our Lives" superfan. From what I understand, she went to the Daytime Emmys one year and was practically stalking the DOOL cast which they all thought was hilarious.

by Anonymousreply 151September 29, 2017 6:58 PM

Iconic moment.

by Anonymousreply 152November 22, 2019 1:36 PM
I'm not bothered by Julia as much as I am by Denzel's win. The guy has been playing the same boring tough guy character for the last twenty years now and Training Day was an awful movie.

Training Day was a dry run for the real deal: The Shield.

Vic Mackey was the true Super(corrupt) Cop to define our zeitgeist. Training Day is amateur hour compared to it.
