A Kennedy diary is the motherlode for the Post. Schlossberg sounds like a consigliere. The quiet guy who carries out the boss's directives. I'd never heard anything negative about him. He sounds awful.
At least Robt. Kennedy once had a conscience. He seems to have lost it when it came to his wife. It must have been galling for her family to read these entries after all the grief he gave Mary Kennedy's family about her body.
OP: In three short sentences, you did a complete 180. I think that might be a record.
Caroline Kennedy sounds like she's the bossy bottom here.
Wow did he really tell Carolyn Bessette's mother that she could "do what you want" with her daughters' remains just days after they died, even though one was married to JFK Jr and by rights should be interred with him? AND their deaths were caused by John Jr's negligence? That is gross even for a Kennedy in-law. Who does he think he is, Steve Smith reincarnate?
From the sounds of RFK Jr's diary he and the others were appalled as well. That says a lot.
I cannot defend Ed Schlossberg's behavior if this is in fact accurate. That was truly ugly.Robert can get a little pissy himself. But I will say that Caroline and her family Ed included had to be devastated. Don't tell me they were estranged because of some furniture. I imagine John was probably disappointed, but depressed is a rather extravagant word.
How long until the kids ditch the Schlossberg moniker in favor of "Kennedy"?
I wonder if the Jackie look-alike is called "Second-Hand Rose" by her self-entitled Kennedy cousins?
I can see the kids taking the Kennedy name or at least hyphenating it.
What does Ed do for a living?
According to Wired.com:
"In 1987 he was skewered by Spy magazine as a "well-to-do hippie-yuppie who's self-consciously 'interesting,'" and a "Renaissance man without a renaissance."
The kids have been called Kennedy-Schlossberg for years. They won't drop the Schlossberg because of dad's $$$$
That's funny, R26. I miss Spy.
What is the origin of the Schlossberg family money?
Caroline's trust fund. Ed's family were noveau upper middle class at best, if that.
I think RFK, Jr is a little dramatic so I doubt that his point of view is the most truthful.
I do, however, remember reading that Jackie O did not like Ed and told Caroline that she should find someone her own age. Mothers always know!
[quote]she should find someone her own age
Or at the very least, somewhat attractive.
Seriously! Why would she marry someone who was so old and ugly?
R20 she should marry kanye west and then her name would be rose west. Sounds like an all american stripper name. Gentlemen feast your eyes on ROOOOOOOOOOOOSE WESSSSSSSSST.
It seems JFK, Jr.'s former nanny said that he and Caroline were very close; therefore, I don't believe the whole "John was depressed over a fight with his sister over furniture" crap that RFK, Jr. was spewing.
The entire Schlossberg family is probably not worth what Jackie's apartment and possessions sold for. Edwin is not even in the same league as his wife. But he sure acts like he is. A friend who lives in their building says he is an arrogant clown.
He berated Carly Simon in front of everyone at Jackie's wake when she stuck a note in Jackie's casket. He was offended that she just got up and did it without consulting the family first. I guess he was too stupid to realize that Carly and Jackie were very close friends.
Even though close there were rumors at the time JFK jr died that he and Caroline had been on the outs at the time, and that she took his death extra hard because of it.
I never read at the time why they might have been fighting, there wasn't much speculation, but RFK's diary sheds some light.
I thought it was also somewhat widely known the last few yrs of JFK Jr's life that Caroline didn't exactly fully embrace Carolyn, and it caused some friction.
R33: I agree
R38: Was it an open casket when she put the note in? if so, it might have been ok but out of resect Carly should have consulted John or Caroline before sticking a note in
Alfred Schlossberg's obit is all about his claim to the Caroline Kennedy fame.
I noticed that too r42. Coattail riders.
R34: Yes, why would young and beautiful Jackie Kennedy marry old and ugly Aristotle Onassis
Carolyn was a bit of a coke head and couldn't really handle being a Kennedy and all of the attention. Shit if I was married to that hot piece of ass, I would just went with it.
