Suzanne Somers: The Affordable Care Act Is a Socialist Ponzi Scheme
I’ve had an opportunity to watch the Canadian version of affordable health care in action with all its limitations with my Canadian husband’s family. A few years ago, I was startled to see the cover of Maclean’s, a national Canadian magazine, showing a picture of a dog on an examining table with the headline, “Your Dog Can Get Better Health Care Than You.” It went on to say that young Canadian medical students have no incentive to become doctors to humans because they can’t make any money. Instead, there is a great surge of Canadian students becoming veterinarians. That’s where the money is. A Canadian animal can have timely MRIs, surgeries and any number of tests it needs to receive quality health care.
My sister-in-law had to wait two months to get a General Practitioner. During this period she spent her days in bed vomiting continuously, unable to get any food or drink down because she couldn’t get an appointment with the doctor. When she finally did, the doctor said, “Oh you don’t need me, you need a specialist.” That took another two weeks until she got a pill that corrected the problem.
Really, is this what we want?
All of my husband’s cousins are doctors. Several have moved to the U.S. because after their years of intensive schooling, they want to reap financial rewards. My 75-year-old Canadian girlfriend was denied treatment because she was too old. She died recently, having been given palliative care. That’s all the system would allow.
Affordable care will allow for pre-existing conditions. That’s the good part for retirees. But, let’s get down and dirty; the word “affordable” is a misnomer. So far, all you are hearing on the news is how everyone’s premiums are doubling and tripling and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to recognize that the whole thing is a big mess. Plus, even after Obamacare is fully implemented, there still will be tens of millions of people not covered. So what’s the point? Medical care will be degraded, the costs will skyrocket, and most frightening of all, your most intimate and personal information is now up for grabs.
So, is affordable care a good thing for retirees? Perhaps over time, it might work if you don’t get too old and you don’t get too sick, and you don’t live too long. But frankly, the economic ramifications with our already swollen debt load don’t add up. Retirees who are on Medicare will suffer the consequences of 700 billions of Medicare dollars instead being used to cover the skyrocketing cost of Obamacare. In essence, less dollars for seniors, means less service. Not fair. The Boomers are going to take the “hit.” In Obamacare, “too old” has limitations of service.
Boomers are smart. They see the train wreck coming… most I speak with think the Affordable Care Act is a greater Ponzi scheme than that pulled off by Bernie Madoff.
Don't know why the first part didn't paste, but here it is:
As a writer of 24 books mostly on health and wellness and by using my celebrity to get to the best and brightest doctors, scientists and medical professionals in the alternative and integrative health-care world, I have come to the following conclusions:
First of all, let’s call affordable health care what it really is: It’s socialized medicine.
The opposite! the opposite! whatever she says I say the opposite!
She can waste fucking millions on horrible plastic surgery and horsehair wigs, and but she can't stand the idea of other people having access to life-saving medical care.
What a horrible human being she is.
She didn't write the article. Well, maybe the first few paragraphs, but then she got bored and let other ditzy blondes finish it.
So her basic argument is that under socialized medicine and Obamacare, the doctors don't make enough money.
Well, how much were they making off the millions of uninsured, you idiot?
She is more of a cunt than my friend Julie. Why is it always the rich people against foodstamps, healthcare, education, etc.? Because they'd have to start paying their fair share.
This thread is tedious. Go back to your ThighMaster, sweetheart. That's more in your sphere of knowledge.
I'm still the same dumb thighmaster cunt I always was.
Suzanne showed her hoo hoo for money.
She's an old air headed dumb ass.
Has the Wall Street Journal really sunk this low? A Suzanne Somers OpEd?
There is a workable system...medicare.
They should just offer it to everyone and get rid of the insurance compamies....those CEO's make all the profits.
You can't believe what is coming down the pike...limiting healthcare...pts losing coverage...peoplel getting laid off.
I hear it everyday as I work in a private doctors office...right now patients are trying to schedule their surgery by the end of the year before they lose their jobs and benefits.
All the cotors are booked up....there is no time available.
The government should make Medicare available to 50 year olds. Slowly put the insurance companies out of business.
my doctor doesn't take medicare...is that usual?
And this is the rich bitch who for the past decade or so had made her living writing books about cancer and other disease prevention. Of course, if you get cancer and you're poor, then I guess it's fuck you loser.
And interestingly, every time I come across critiques of the Canadian health system (which always rehash the same scenarios), it comes from neo-con Americans. I'm sure if you polled Canadians, there would be emphatic support.
R16, if that would work, it's brilliant.
I've known Canadians for 35 years. My ex is Canadian as is, obviously, his entire family.
Their healthcare is great. It's always been great. No worries, no hassles, no 'extra, hidden charges' and everyone has it, it's terrific.
People who bitch about it are just talking out of their asses.
She doesn't even understand the Affordable Care Act- it is nothing like Canadian health care; it is the same model Massachusetts uses.
And don't forget, she is Kathy Griffin's new best friend. This is one of the reasons people are tired of Miss Griffin.
Canadian here. I love our healthcare. The only negative thing I could say is that for procedures like knee replacements and other non-emergency surgeries, there is typically a bit of a wait. However, the care is excellent, and basically free.
Canadian health care sucks
It's not 'free', R23 in the sense that we do pay for it through taxes. We just don't pay out of pocket at the doctors office.
At least you get something useful in return for your tax dollars, R25.
I have yet to find a use for a $436 million dollar Abrams Tank improvement program. It's described as a good thing to have if you're trying to take Berlin from the Nazis. Even the Pentagon doesn't want the damn thing.
Something people can actually use and desperately need, like health care? Oh no! Socialism! Fascism! Evil Black Man in the White House!
I'd rather my taxes go to pay for universal health care than wars in the Middle East.
Waiting for a new taxpayer funded knee- fine.
Waiting for an MRI due to trauma- not!
Richardson spent hours getting a CT scan since most hospitals don't have them. If she had been in the US, every Podunk town has one.
I eat old people's excrement, my pussy stinks and I don't remember eating corn.
What total garbage... Canadian living in the US for the last 10 years... As much as I love it here, the healthcare is MILES ahead in Canada...
Walk into a doctor's office in Canada - you'll see a receptionist. Walk into a doctor's office in the U.S., you'll see three, four, sometimes more staff working on just billing....
Walk in in Canada, show your health card - pay nothing... Walk in in the US, get your money for your co-pay out...
If you get sent to a specialist - wait weeks or months in either country... although even if your doctor sends you in the US, you might be allowed... IF your plan allows you to see that specialist.
Oh, and if you want a colonoscopy in the US and you're under Anthem Blue Cross, expect to be AWAKE for it, unless you're willing to pay $800 to be knocked out...
And as for Natasha Richardson, she REFUSED to go to the hospital after her skiing accident. Not sure where you got the BS about "most hospitals don't have" CT scans. Sounds scary... too bad it's a lie...
I second everyone saying their Canadian friends love Canadian healthcare. My one friend's Canadian girlfriend finds it very bizarre and inhuman that Americans are expected to pay itemized medical bills or even that money is exchanged in doctors offices and hospitals before even seeing a doctor. It's utterly foreign to her; in Canada no one pays a dime except what is collected in taxes. A person who had heart surgery pays the same amount as one who sprained an ankle: zero. It's all covered, no one is turned down, turned away or goes bankrupt because they got sick.
Imagine that. Why can't we do that here? Oh, right. Because FREEDOM.
The amount of money that is wasted by physicians and other providers having to deal with hundreds of different insurance companies and policies is staggering.
Obamacare is far from ideal, which we all know is Single Payer, but it still has to be better than the GOP plan for the uninsured, get sick and die penniless.
Suzanne: The crap you've been shilling for years on HSN and ShopNBC and anywhere else that will deal with you is a far worse scam than anything to do with Obamacare.
My high school girlfriend lived in Canada. (eventually she died)
In R3's photo of Suzanne, look at how one of her eyes has been damaged by plastic surgery.
Has Suzanne found a veterinarian that will see her?
Yep, she's got the wonky eye. Her whole face is busted, R36.
why is Suzanne so bitter?
Because she was never taken seriously as an actress, R39.
I doubt I could actually say that. It was hard to type with a straight face.
[quote]Has Suzanne found a veterinarian that will see her?
She tried R37. He explained to her she was decades past being the My Little Pony she thought she was and had been The Old Gray Mare for years and years but she wouldn't hear a word of it.
r40- she doesn't think she was never taken seriously as a actress, she thinks she didn't get the roles she deserved because she was so "outspoken" (her failed bid to squeeze more money out of 3's company). i personally know suzanne and her opinions about her own talent are so inflated, it's crazy. she seriously thinks she is one of the greatest entertainers of the past hundred years- up there with judy and barbra. she actually thinks she's BETTER than barbra as suzanne is a triple threat- comedienne, singer AND dancer, where barbra merely acts and sings. i've been at her house when suzanne warbles out a tune, and for her to think she is in the same league as barbra is laughable. but she does. 100% insufferable. she is so self-absorbed, and entitled, it truly makes being around her unbearable.
and don't get me started on her "medical" advice. always telling people to take curcumin, as if it *really* cured her imaginary breast cancer.
i could go on, and on.
R42, I maybe the only one reading your comment who believes you are full of shit. Now go take care of table 4, they need refills.
Suzanne now looks like she's made of rubber.
R42 is right though. Remember her one-woman Broadway show, that opened in closed in a few performances? It definitely indicated she takes herself too seriously to a laughable extent. I've seen her speak about the Chrissy character as if it's high art, instead of a particularly irritating version of the stereotypical dumb blond we've seen a billion times.
believe me or not, i do not care. i will not say how i know her because someone i care about could be hurt, but i have been to her houses in both malibu and palm springs many times. she really is full of herself (her house in malibu in particular is a shrine to her narcissism). she truly thinks of herself as one of the talented greats and that hollywood rejected her because she was simply not going to play by their game. she got very lucky with her home shopping gig, but even they tired of her, and gave her the have ho. she switched her wares from fashion to nutrition after her contract wasn't renewed because the margins on the cheap vitamins she bought and relabeled were much higher and without the shopping channel's volume, she wouldn't produce a profit with fashion and accessories, so her whole "nutrition and diet" angle is just a scam for her bottom line.
as for the cancer, per wikipedia:
[quote]In November, 2008, Suzanne Somers announced she was diagnosed with inoperable cancer by six doctors, but Somers learned a week later that she was misdiagnosed.
do you really believe that six doctors made a misdiagnosis? this was all SHOW because to boost sales of her quack vitamins she needs to discredit the medical establishment. she lies as easily as she breathes, and is endangering others by her lies without a thought.
r45, this is what she had to say about critics of her braodway show:
[quote]These men [New York critics] are curmudgeons, and maybe I went too close to the bone for them. I was lying there naked, and they decided to kick me and step on me, just like these visions you see in Iraq."
WAY TOO FULL OF HERSELF.
Her naked floppy tit bags and hairy hoo hoo were in Playboy. They terrified me as a child.
I don't know, Ms. Thighmaster. Instead of doctor satisfaction, maybe look at facts such as mortality rates, life expectancy, quality of care for the 'average' person and not your wealthy, Rethuglican douchebag friends, control of big pharma, how health care has been turned into an industry rather than a primary and fundamental social responsibility...? Seems the little people might have a different view of things. And for God's sake, don't dare ask a Canadian what he or she thinks based on their own experience!
This fucking old hag needs to shut her pie hole.
Someone needs to sit Suzanne Somers down and explain to her that she's an ignorant cunt who is flat out wrong in nearly EVERY assertion she's making, and should probably shut her fucking pie-hole rather than babble on about things she's clearly clueless about.
I'd say Canadian healthcare is pretty damn great if Somers' sister had been vomiting for two months straight and she was cured with a simple pill.
Though I'm not sure how she managed to survive for two months without keeping any food or drink down. Most of us would die long before that. Of course, most of us would go to the emergency room after a few days of misery, where presumably another doctor could prescribe the same pill Ms. Somers' sister waited two months for.
[quote] My sister-in-law had to wait two months to get a General Practitioner. During this period she spent her days in bed vomiting continuously, unable to get any food or drink down because she couldn’t get an appointment with the doctor. When she finally did, the doctor said, “Oh you don’t need me, you need a specialist.” That took another two weeks until she got a pill that corrected the problem
Well in America she wouldn't be able to go to a doctor unless she had money. And if she was so sick she should have gone to an emergency room in Canada. As an adult Canadian citizen she should have had a general practioner since she was 18 years old. I don't know why she wouldn't already have a general practioner. Has she never gone to the doctor since she became an adult? Suzanne's full of shit
Just like Suzanne's sister in law, I had severe nausea and vomiting last Thanksgiving. I was vomiting blood. I went to an American emergency room and was admitted to the hospital and was kept there for 6 days. The cost was $21,000. I do not have insurance. My grandmother waited 2 months to see a specialist in America
SS spent too much time with the meathead and archie, she's daft.
She can be a Republicunt. She has (had?) blonde hair and we can call her Suzanne Cunters.
I told you she was bad news, but you wouldn't listen. Oh, she's a genius entrepreneur, you said. Oh, they exaggerate what a bitch she was on Three's Company. Now look what you enabled.
is there any mystery that Big Insurance and Big Pharma is against the ACA?
R54, you are trying too hard, babe.
Suzanne Somers' dog gets better health care than I do.
She's a dumb cunt.
So what's the point?
The point is that people will have healthcare.
What does the Canadian system have to do with the ACA?
Nothing. Canada has a single payer system. The Affordable Care Act does not.
Moreover, studies show that Canadians are much more satisfied with their healthcare system than Americans are.
I can't wait until you pro Obamacare losers go to your doctors and get told to go home because your doctor has quit practicing medicine.
Well R61 maybe when the pampered darlings quit medicine we will get doctors who actually care about treating patients and a little bit less about the length of their yachts.
R62 keep living in your dreamworld.
r62 whatever they are paying you is too much.
Hard to believe she's the same person a therapist once described as having "The lowest self-esteem of anyone I've ever encountered". Seems she went to the other extreme and decided to become a towering narcissist.
Or she was just faking all the time, and passive-aggressively manipulating everyone she encountered to get what she wanted.
Keep living in a red state, R61/R63. Or is that you, Suzanne?
Again, R61, doctors haven't been making ANY money off the uninsured. Doctors and hospitals have been losing tons of money treating the uninsured without anyone ever paying a dime for it, so Obama care means they're going to make a bit more money.
God, you're an idiot.
R61 is a paid shill. They only post on threads about ACA and it's always negative.
She's a selfish Republican, nothing new about greedy Republicans, acting the way they do...
Republicans all over this board, trying their best to bullshit people out of healthcare.
Sorry guys but it will happen, just like Medicare happened.
R42, I was being sarcastic @R40. That's why it was difficult to type it with a straight face.
She was the definition of third-rate "entertainer" when she began and she never got any better.
I have no trouble believing your description:
[quote]100% insufferable. she is so self-absorbed, and entitled, it truly makes being around her unbearable.
Although, to be fair, that fits a lot of actors and actresses.
Didn't she shoplift or kite checks or something, when she was younger? Then she blamed it on being a single parent, or some shit.
I was young at the time, but I do remember the uproar over Medicare and how it would lead to "socialized Medicine". The AMA and doctors were dead-set against it, and it was viewed as a slippery slope towards Communism by the usual wingnuts.
R30, let's not get carried away. If I need a specialist in the US, I can go right away whether my "plan" allows it or not.
r73- not if you are part of an HMO you can't.
and if you mean you can pay to see a specialist out of pocket, why yes you can. anywhere in the world, including canada. money is a universal language.
[quote]is there any mystery that Big Insurance and Big Pharma is against the ACA?
The only mystery is why people believe this. Big Insurance LOVES the ACA. I'm pretty sure Big Pharma does too.
Well, the American system failed her since she obviously cannot afford meds to treat her psychotic episodes.
Damn Straight, R4.
Why are only the people who can afford the best in health care the only ones against this?
the rich seem to really want the poor to suffer. there is something very unsettling in those who have the best of everything, who want to deny others even a scrap of the privileges they take for granted.
...because part of why they are wealthy is from profiting from Big Insurance and Big Pharma, r78.
and i'd imagine that if poor, gullible, trailer-living housewives in omaha could actually go see doctors, they might not be desperate enough to purchase the snake oil peddled by SS.
Her beauty has been preserved through hormones....not gallons of filler and plastic surgery.
Suzanne Somers is one of the few people you can look at and right away know she is a professional bullshitter.
Is she still alive?
So true R85.
I think it has been Somers full time job forever to bullshit and lie. She just switches arenas and subjects. A true con woman, who believes herself. Terrible human being that is skating along just fine.
Her message is full of health and feminism and lifestyle force, but to anyone with clear eyes, she is a picture of female desperation, dependence and decay. Ellen loves her too, but then they are similar, no?
Kathy Griffin should know better.
Her husband is the definition of a sleazeball.
The part about this I find the most hilarious WSJ published this in a section called "The Experts". Here's how they describe that particular feature
[quote]As part of an expanded Web presence for the Journal Reports, we have launched The Experts—an exclusive group of industry and thought leaders
Suzanne Summers: Healthcare Thought Leader.
R89 Next up: Jenny McCarthy on vaccines!
Isn't she another old crone who brags about her sex life ad nauseam too?
Doesn't say much for Wall Street Journal that they felt a has been like her deserved op-ed space.
Keep in mind who owns the WSJ.
Exactly R93. Prior to Murdoch this would have been unthinkable. In fact, this may be the first time that paper ever printed her name.
Suzanne Sumers is a fucking idiot and always has been.
Somers bizarrely and dangerously takes 100+ pills a day! Unlicensed and science-free hands full of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, steroids, poster paint, and ground eye of newt! Look at her face! How did it get like that? She injects all these liquids and creams up into herself too. Trust me, she's going to croak from all that crap.
Happily, God has seen it fit to burn her house down. Twice, if I recall correctly!
When Malibu had those terrific fires a couple years ago, two beach front properties burned to the ground, her's and someone elses.
The TV people interviewed her staring at her smoldering cinders aghast and she apparently was in such shock she forgot that SHE DID NOT HAVE ON ANY MAKEUP AT ALL!! Shitty natural sun lighting, no makeup, glum! Her skin looked like that old timey corrasable (sp?) wrinkly typing paper (the kind you could erase your errors). She looked like FUCKING SHIT.
And her husbands son is by some accounts, also a sleaze bag.
Conservatives think everything they don't like is a Ponzi scheme, without ever having any clue what a Ponzi scheme actually is (let alone that their "Trickle Down Economics" is more Ponzi Scheme than anything Democrats have ever put forth).
Ignorant hypocrites, the lot of them.
She left HSN because she wanted to expand into "supplements" and they refused. HSN doesn't carry them and wouldn't budge even for her so she picked up and went to ShopNBC. She dropped the jewelry and clothing line. Does anyone carry Shop NBC in HD? No one I know has it and when she is on, her close-up camera definitely has a filter on it. It's like Lucy's Mame". Long shot clear, close up, fuzzy.
When she did her Broadway show, HSN had a special performance, where if you bought your ticket from them, you got a talk back. It was a Saturday matinee and turned out to be the last Saturday before she closed. My friend thought it would be funny so we went. After the show we were supposed to stay behind. A person came up to us to try to throw us out but when she showed them the tickets, she was surprised because we were the only guys there. There were about 75 people and they were all her female groupie HSN customers.
She came out and talked for about fifteen minutes, nothing exciting, as we had already just witnessed her life story, mostly about how disappointed she was the show only lasted a week on Broadway and how unfair the critics were. Ahh, no they weren't. It was embarrassingly bad.
Then her husband sauntered out onto the stage to groupie applause and said to her, "Ok Honey, we have to go, it's time for lunch" and off they went. As we walked out the door we were all handed a hard copy of her autobiography from 1988. Why she had so many copies hanging around of those, I don't know.
And Yes, while talking about her first big break, "American Graffiti", as the girl in the white Thunderbird, she wore this, on a Broadway stage.
[quote] Suzanne Summers: Healthcare Thought Leader
I remember when she had cancer and went on every show that would have her. She spouted off a bunch of bullshit about how she would treat her cancer with only homeopathic supplements because she thought main stream doctors didn't want to cure people. She used reindeer supplements/injections for a couple of months. She went steadily down hill after taking those crazy ass homeopathic treatments and she ran to a regular medical doctor and signed herself up for real cancer treatment and when asked why her suddenly changed her mind completely about real medical treatment she said her health was a private matter.
A private matter? this from a woman who announces to the world as often as possible that she injects her clitoris daily with a needle full of hormones
So has Suzanne always been right-wing?
Well, she was a Welfare Mother when she had her kid. She probably became right wing when she became a multi-millionaire and didn't want to pay taxes on it.
Last year she described Paul Ryan as the 'perfect choice' of running mate for Mitt Romney. I was on Twitter when she sent the Tweet at the time.
She was also corresponding with Mary Bono Mack, who thankfully went down to defeat in California.
[quote]HSN doesn't carry them
I'm sure Andrew Lessman would be interested to hear that.
I don't know who Andrew Lessman is, but maybe HSN didn't want two supplement lines competing, but I heard that it was definitely her supplement line that led her to leave. I'm sure she didn't jump at having to drudge out to MN in the dead of winter over the HSN FL studios.
At this point I would be more inclined to believe chuck norris is a health care leader than the queen of injectables.
Since Kathy Griffin has a new, much younger BF, she's desperate to believe Suzanne's BS re her continued sex life, post menopause, is due to her bio identical hormone regime. Rumor has it Suzanne injects the hormones directly into her labia.
has anyone asked suzanne somers, to weigh in on the NSA scandal?
[quote]Happily, God has seen fit to burn her house down. Twice, if I recall correctly!
R96, consider yourself invited to my next party.
Thanks for listing those corrections. 3 of them already. And this is what has become of the Wall Street Journal since that devil Rupert Murdoch purchased it.
No factchecking - just like FoxNews.
Ponzi scheme? This chick convinces women they need ten or more products a day, Lip Wrinkle Cream, Bioactive Moisturizer, Advanced Night Cream, Calming Toner, Everyday Cleanser, Body Butter, Anti-Aging Eye Cream, Ageless Serum, Recovery Mask & Liquid Oxygen Face Serum and more plus electrical devices to look young, all on auto ship of course. And you too can be this wrinkle free! Now talk about fraud.
[quote] My 75-year-old Canadian girlfriend was denied treatment because she was too old.
That is a complete LIE. NO ONE in Canada is denied treatment because of age.
If her statement was true, why Suzanne use her millions to help out her friend.
She didn't because her statement above is an out and out LIE
suzanne somers is a lying liar who lies:
"Speaking on “The Talk” on Tuesday, Somers says, “We did (reconcile). I was in a beauty salon and I hadn’t talked to him in a long time. I really felt so badly because I love John Ritter and it was over a contract dispute that never should have infiltrated John and I…
“In the beauty salon, the receptionist comes over and says, ‘You have a phone call… It’s John Ritter.’ I go over and pick up the phone and he says, ‘Listen, I forgive you.’ I had a little trouble with that, but I let that go, and I said, ‘I love you and I’ve always loved you.’”
Ritter invited his former co-star to make a cameo appearance on his new show “8 Simple Rules” – and they were in the process of making it happen when he suddenly died from an aortic dissection on September 11, 2003."
Newsflash to Suzanne! Shut the fuck up and go play with your stupid thigh master....
has anyone asked suzanne how to salve the immigration crisis? i'm sure she'll have all the answers, or at least an EDUCATED opinion.
Suzanne is full of shit about the sister-in-law. People who don't have a GP here in Canada can go to a walk-in clinic and wait their turn to be seen by a doctor (not paying if they have the health card which all residents in the respective province are required to get; if you are new to the country, there is a waiting period of a couple of months I think). If a walk-in is somehow not available, go to the ER. No need to wait MONTHS to be seen by a gatekeeper doctor. Fucking liar, and WSJ is enabling this BS.
hey, she couldn't do any worse than our lazy leader.
R120, congress hasn't done shit. They're the lazy ones.
WHO WOULD LET A BELOVED SISTER-IN-LAW SPEND TWO WEEKS IN MISERY WITHOUT HELPING WHEN YOU ARE A MILIONAIRE??????? If it were my close family member I would step in and use my vast financial resources to help them, bring them to the U.S. for healthcare at my expense. This is Alan's sister after all. Makes you wonder about their internal moral compass.
I believe this story is bullshit.
She's certainly an entremanure.
R122, not only that, but all of the cousins are doctors. Wouldn't one of them have helped her?
