Knowing When It's Time to Put A Pet to Sleep

My 18 year old cat is in the final stages of renal failure. She took a turn for the worse earlier this week. She's sleeping a lot, wants to sit on my lap and purr. She's given up trying to get to her favorite spot in the window and she won't sleep with me anymore. She stopped eating yesterday. She was always a big food mooch and has turned her nose up at her favorites. She is drinking water. Everybody keeps telling me that she will let me know when it's time. I dint think she's in any pain but I can't be 100% certain. I'm completely torn up I don't want her to suffer. To make matters worse I'm unemployed. Won't have any money until the end of next week. I really can't afford any more trips to the vet. I've given up food for myself a number of times when I realized something was wrong and too where to the vet and found out there wasn't anything they could do. I keep hoping she'll go to sleep and not wake up
