I can't wait for the news services to pick this up Monday!
[quote]He sounds unhinged, not saying he's not right but he's getting into ridiculous twitter fights with people & he sounds like a 3 year old on it.
Well, of *course* he's unhinged. He's like many of our own DLers who are absolutely OBSESSED with the idea of outing closet cases, particularly closeted Republican politicians. Mike's just amped his crazy up a few more notches than anyone on DL, to the point of actively *investigating* gay allegations. (It can't be *that* hard to figure this shit out. We already know from, well, every political sex scandal ever that politicians are brazen and without shame when it comes to fulfilling their extramarital sexual needs, and they're not exactly careful when they do it. See, e.g., middle finger-waving Anthony Weiner.)
I'm merely disappointed that it's not a higher-profile senator. I honestly don't think I've ever heard of this guy until tonight - not surprising considering he represents one of the lowest-populated, least-important states.
He actually voted to fund Obamacare
[quote]A public denial similar to Senator Wide Stance's, replete with wife-beard by his side, in 4..3..2..
But is there proof with this one? In the case of Senator Larry Craig there was a police arrest with legal charges.
I'm actually pretty damn surprised. He's kind of cute, sure, but what a fucking asshole. He deserves to have his life completely ruined.
According to VoteSmart (sorry, I'm a political scientist and find this fascinating):
[quote]John Barrasso. The Wyoming Tribune Eagle:It's Barrasso. 23 June 2007. "I believe in limited government, lower taxes, less spending, traditional family values, local control and a strong national defense. In the state Senate, in addition to receiving an 'A' rating from the NRA, I have voted for prayer in schools, against gay marriage and have sponsored legislation to protect the sanctity of life."
[quote]Human Rights Campaign. 04/18/2012. "John Barrasso supported the interests of the Human Rights Campaign 0 percent in 2010."
[quote]American Family Association. 04/18/2012. "John Barrasso supported the interests of the American Family Association 100 percent in 2010."
[quote]John Barrasso. Video: U.S. Sen-WY Debate: Barrasso vs. Carter. 21 August 2008. "I voted against gay marriage. To me, marriage is a sacred bond between a man and a woman, and I will continue to vote that way."
By the way, this asshole voted "Nay" when The Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Hate Crimes Prevention Bill came up for vote in the Senate.
[quote]I can't wait for the news services to pick this up Monday!
Won't happen without proof.
R13 He we are again. A gay man (presumably,) writing on a gay site, positively giddy with the idea of using all our gay power to destroy a gay man for being gay. And given his obsessiveness with this particular thread, R13 R14 R16 R17 , you can be sure he doesn't get it.
Fuck you, R19. It's one thing to be closeted; however, it's quite another to be in a position of power and actively work to deny gays and lesbians equal rights. I wouldn't say I'm giddy about this revelation, but I'm definitely not ambivalent. I'd like to hear his side of the story...and not a half-hearted denial either.
It's not like anyone should have much sympathy just because he's in Wyoming. The guy grew up in Pennsylvania, went to school in DC, and did his residency in New Haven...he chose to move to Wyoming and pander to an anti-gay majority for votes.
Here's the thing, he voted FOR Obamacare, he's toast in his next election anyway.
[quote] By the way, this asshole voted "Nay" when The Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Hate Crimes Prevention Bill came up for vote in the Senate.
And both he and Matthew Shepard are/were residents of Laramie, Wyoming. Interesting...
What a vile asshole. Why did he think he'd be able to hide his sexuality as a public figure? He's part of the Senate leadership too. The guy is fucked.
Another vile, self-loathing, closet-case, Rethuglican piece of shit.
[quote]Here we are again. A gay man (presumably,) writing on a gay site, positively giddy with the idea of using all our gay power to destroy a gay man for being gay.
No, not for being gay. For being a weasel and a hypocrite. You want to live in the closet? That's nice for you. But you don't get to live the lie and actively work against the LGBT community. Being gay or lesbian isn't a choice, but whether to be a closet case is. Bare Ass is merely going to pay the price for his unfortunate decision.
outing anti-gay politicians is fair game. whether our resident closet-case defenders can see that or not.
I had no idea outing some hateful closet case requires "all our gay power," as r19 suggests.
That you for that cowardly perspective, r19.
So much for the outing, where are the hustlers and hookups?
Documentation, Mary, we need documentation!
They better have receipts, because this works in his favor:
[quote]Barrasso has three children — Peter, a graduate of Georgetown University; Emma, a graduate of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology; and Hadley, a recent high school graduate. He is divorced from Linda Nix. On January 1, 2008, he married Bobbi Brown
[quote]On August 11, 2007, during Cheyenne's annual Race for the Cure, Barrasso and Bobbi Brown, herself a breast cancer survivor and at the time, the state director for Barrasso's state Senate offices, announced that they would marry. Once the two were engaged, Brown resigned her position in Barrasso's state Senate offices. They were married on January 1, 2008, with their children in attendance in Thermopolis.
Brown has a 16-year-old daughter, named Hadley, from a previous marriage. Barrasso has two children, Peter and Emma, from his previous marriage to Linda Nix.
[quote]He actually voted to fund Obamacare
Then he's straight.
Yeah -- I don't see any proof except for gayface.
right. just like MY children prove without a doubt that I am 100 percent straight!
You are the fucking asshole land [R20] is correct. It isn't about being gay and closeted, it is about being gay and working to undo other gay people while you HIDE IN THE FUCKING CLOSET.
Stay in your closet your whole life for all I care as long as you aren't a traitor to the rest of us.
So he got married to an employee the year he decided to run for the US Senate? Hmmmmmmmmmmm...
r29 cracks me up.
He's on Facebook. Here's a pic from his page, celebrating a football victory with some, uh, buds.
Rogers is such an embarrassment. He frequently "outs" people with no evidence, and it's only if ACTUAL journalists do the work and get real evidence that it sticks. Rogers "outed" Larry Craig, but only had anonymous sources and rumors. It wasn't until the Idaho Statesman found out about the arrest in the mens room that Craig was outed in any meaningful way. But Rogers still takes credit. (I'm all for his attempts to out hypocritical politicians. I just think he does it ineffectively.)
Is this a teaser article? Where's the back-up?
You can say Lindsey Graham is gay until the cows come home and nothing sticks because there is no proof.
Deliver the goods, Mr. Rogers.
Is this the Senate seat Liz Cheney is trying to get?
No, R45. Liz Cheney is going for Mike Enzi's seat.
WAIT, Bobbi Brown is his wife? The Cherry Pie Bobbi Brown who was involved with or married to Jani Lane & Nikki Six???
Wait, ok different Bobbi Brown. But I'm pretty sure THAT Bobbi Brown is a righty these anyways, as is Nikki Sixx.
Dammit, couldn't it be someone attractive for once? I mean, I know the Senate isn't crawling with hot men, but come on!
Like someone else said, he looks like the love child of Santorum and a dog.
Huh, R50? Are you casting porn? What the fuck difference does it make if he's hot or not?
It determines my interest level. If you think it's going to make any change in anyone's politics, you're kidding yourself.
Take him... TAKE HIM!
Just don't look my way, boys.
[quote]So he got married to an employee the year he decided to run for the US Senate? Hmmmmmmmmmmm...
What's wrong with getting married the year you expect to run for major office?
No evidence of this claim. Sounds like a straight up lie to destroy the Senator. Rogers should apologize and face legal consequences for lying on this man.
r55, be gone.
R25 Of course not foe being gay. But we're going to USE HIS BEING GAY to injure and hopefully destroy him for his beliefs. It should work .. usually does anyway.
How do we know he's gay?
Because I said so!
Barrasso is being outed as a HYPOCRITE. He is gay and yet voted against rights for other gay people who are not fortunate enough to be rich and powerful like he is. Barrasso traded his integrity for a political career, and if he is exposed for doing so, then he it's well-deserved.
Barrasso is cheating not just gay people, whose rights to live honestly he has fought at every opportunity, but he also is cheating the "family values" voters who helped put him in office believing that he shares those so-called "family values" when he in fact only wants their votes and campaign contributions, not their "values."
The trolls here should remember that you're on a gay website. Calling someone gay is not an 'accusation' or an 'allegation.' There is nothing wrong with being gay. Calling someone gay is not an attempt to 'destroy' them.
I'm on board with outing hypocrites (straight or gay). But I disagree on outing all closet cases because out gays want them to be out.
Ultimately everyone has their own journeys to follow and we should leave them to it, except when they're actively, unquestioningly hurting the lgbt community like in cases of anti-gay politicians or preachers.
I see the mainstream media is not picking this up, and probably for good measure. There's nothing to back up MR's claims.
r60, in this case, Rogers certainly intends to destroy, embarrass, or shame his targets. He is not being benevolent with his actions.
Rogers is not responsible for Republican attitudes toward gayness, R62. That's their own fault.
Grandma at r61, no one is advocating outing ALL closet cases, just the hypocritical politicians.
Yes, we're all on a journey. It had just better not be on the backs of our brethren.
thank you r64.
Without proof, the mainstream media will not touch this.
Well this story went nowhere.
Let's hope he overdoses with a trick, then.
Of course it didn't, R67. You need PROOF for something like this. Otherwise the media won't touch it.
Sen. Barrasso did NOT "vote for Obamacare"! Where are you getting this?
On September 30, 2013 Rodgers also outed U.S. Congressman Adrian Smith, Tea Party Republican from Nebraska. The article has a picture of Mr. Smith, sitting next to Aaron Schock looking at Mr. Smith with the most dreamboat look. Too funny.
r58, Mike's always right. Just ask Ed Schrock, Ken Mehlman, and Larry Craig.
Regarding Adrian Smith - he was outed on the datalounge years ago, when he first ran for congress. Someone posted here that he had a bf who was a flight attendant. I think the bf lived in Denver. Smith is a fundie who attended Liberty University and co-sponsored an anti gay marriage bill in the Nebraska legislature.
