Have you ever dyed a pair of shoes?

I was in TK Maxx today and they had two pairs of very comfortable Ralf Lauren suede loafers (see pic...hope it works) at a great price, in a style I like. So I bought both. Instantly comfortable. I'm wearing a pair now. BUT, they are both in a very dreary pale beige. I think I'll keep one of them au natural and let time and wear darken them and dye the other pair. My BF's never heard of dyeing shoes, but my parents often did it back in the 70s, especially if the shoes were expensive and they hated the color. Do people still dye shoes? How should I go about it? TIA
