Websites that pose as users forums but are actually PR machines
ontd is a classic example.
Post after post promoting Miley Cyrus, Catfish, or the celeb du jour. People think these kind of forums thrive on "user-generated" content but it's really all about who has the best PR team. Any regular schlub submitting a post will be rejected.
Anne Hathaway's PR post there a lot.
Whenever a movie is coming out or a show is premiering all of a sudden the online chatter about certain celebrities will go up including talk about them online.
There is the offical PR marketing on generating headlines and then the "Online marketing group" is what a lot of teams call it of paying people to post tons of comments on different boards and blogs.
And no doubt, r2, they lend a majority of the comments as well.
Some of them are soooo very transparent.
Lady Gaga is #1 in more Countries than Madonna. Lady Gaga is Queen of Pop!!!
Is that why ONTD posts CONSTANTLY about Hilary Duff, when near as I can see her career ended 10 years ago.
Perez Hilton turned into that. And then it died.
Just Jared but not Just Jared Jr.
Well, I'm sure that NEVER happens here.
Hell, most forums or sites that let people comment on articles, etc. are dominated by PR shills and spam for all sorts of work at home scams and the like.
Microsoft is unfairly hated, it is just misunderstood…
How does one get a job as an online PR shill?
I think I could be very good at this.
