They're really tryin, aren't they?
This just helps him.
Oh my god he even had an Afro. We are doomed!
Was He A Member Of The Black Panthers?
I agree R1. It seems as if Mr. Bloomberg might have made a call. Then we have this wretched Matthew Shepard book that the Right-Less are trying to push. Just awful!
If this were a national election, with voters in the Midwest and South terrified of socialists and communists taking away their guns, this kind of story might have traction.
It's fucking New York City. No one gives a shit - you think the voters in Brooklyn, the Bronx, and most of Manhattan (besides the UES and UWS) are scared by "socialism"? Hell, most people voted for him BECAUSE he gave off the liberal credentials of a community activist.
I met a lady on the train who said his wife is a lesbian, she claimed she read it in the NYT.
Yup, R5, and his daughter was conceived through immaculate conception.
The New York Times is always out to get the wrong person. First, they attacked Chris Quinn, and her noisy bossiness, and you know how that turned out... Good news for Bill!
I've heard rumors that he and Obama both [bold]FATHERED BLACK CHILDREN[/bold]!!!
Since Warren Wilhelm wasn't invited to the Steuben Day Parade, will he be on a float at the Columbus Day event?
I'm ok with liberal...but moving down to nicaragua to become a sandinista...abit much, no? Not big on electing Mayor Che Guevara.
Like anybody gives a flying fuck about your idiotic GOP talking point, R10.
I have a feeling if this guy is elected he will be a disaster for NYC. The last thing we need is a bleeding heart liberal to run things. Crime will go through the roof. He seems like the type to give a pat on the back to a mugger.
He and the misses went to Cuba illegally to see how Castro runs the country. That's where Bill learned to promise everything to everybody without knowing how it would be paid for.
I vaguely knew him in college. He's a very nice, earnest guy. Unfortunately, nice, earnest guys do not make good NYC mayors. (See Dinkins).
I like him though but I'm sad to say that to be a good NYC mayor you have to be a bit of an SOB.
I want to move to NYC just to vote for Bill de Blasio.
Fuck you and your "bleeding heart" crap. Sixties White Supremacist bullshit.
But Lhota has the drive and personality of a piece of flounder, as well as an unfortunate lisp. What are we gonna do? It's a pretty wan choice for us New Yorkers.
Finally, the NY Times is able to report that the paper ballots have at long last all been by the clown car known as the NYC Board of Elections. And it didn't change the percentage more than a mil. What they haven't told us, however, is just how many paper ballots were counted and why it took almost a month to count them and report the tally. The paper of record continues its southward slump on real news... and continues to shill the documentary for their now defeated endorsement, Ms. Christine Quinn.
De Blasio Quietly Drops Bloomberg Policy Forcing Sponsors Of Immigrants To Pick Up Welfare Tabs
Records show that in February New York Mayor Bill de Blasio quietly gave the axe to a policy put in place by former mayor Michael Bloomberg that required the sponsors of immigrants to pick up their welfare tabs.
The payback policy stems from a 1997 federal law, which requires sponsors of immigrants to sign a contract saying they are financially responsible if the people they sponsored accept some public benefits. The feds didn’t enforce the law, and no city adopted the policy until New York took it up in 2012 under Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
Bloomberg resurrected this law that contractually required sponsors of immigrants to repay public benefits received by immigrants they vouched for. However, the city gave low-income sponsors, victims of domestic abuse, asylum seekers and refugees a pass, along with recipients of food stamps and Medicaid.
Along with the change in policy, de Blasio is also refunding upwards of $1M to some 250 sponsors who were forced to pay the abs of immigrants who found their way into the welfare system. Most of the refunds are going to sponsors who are relatives of the immigrants they sponsored, officials said.
Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services Lilliam Barrios-Paoli said the de Blasio administration ended the paybacks because it was “wrong.” “These people are our neighbors,” Barrios-Paoli said. “They pay taxes. And they deserve better.”
The Sandinistas were the good guys, r10. Remember the Iran-Contra crimes of Reagan et al.?
R21: The Sandinistas are communist dictators. Those are never "good guys".
My great grandparents had to have sponsors. There was no public assistance for them
I've heard rumors that he and Obama both FATHERED BLACK CHILDREN!!!
Why didn't they just buy them?
Only an idiot would say that the Sandinistas are good guys.
I met a lady on the train who said his wife is a lesbian, she claimed she read it in the NYT.
His wife used to be a lesbian. Or at least that's what she used to call herself when she was having relationships with women
De Blasio & Co is what you wind up with when only 18% of the registered electorate comes out to vote for NYC's mayoral contest.
At heart, he's a communist.
What's fucked up is that the Feds ... you know, the ones with jurisdiction over immigration and Human Services ... aren't enforcing it.
De BLasio cares about all those in need, and that includes immigrants!
Geez..the election of deBlasio reminds us to get the hell out and vote or you will be left with this clown.
What a disaster.
Oh, pipe down you bizarre Chicken Littles!
You may tidy your Giuliani shrines now!
"Oh my God. I'm back. I'm home. All the time, it was... We finally really did it ... You Maniacs! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell!"
We are switching to the new platform for The DataLounge this weekend. All of our mobile users have been using it for over a week and all first time users have been using it for about a month - which adds up to well over one million users. So we're ready to end this phase of the testing and move everybody to the new site. (more)
And yes, we've changed the look and some of how it operates.
Yes, we know you just *hate* it in well in advance.
Yes, we know we suck.
Yes, we are the biggest suckers that ever sucked.
But it was time for a change and with the huge shift to mobile it was long overdue. We've taken this opportunity not only to update the look but also make major changes under the hood (or "bonnet" if you're either British or pretentious or both). And we have to prepare for 2016 - a presidential election year where we can normally expect to see a 60% jump in traffic (yes, we've seen 5 presidential elections so far…Christ we're old).
The site has a bunch - nay, plethora - of new features which will make the site more usable: better search, the ability to ignore posters and threads, see link previews, to pick up a thread where you left off, spam and malware filtering and more.
If you want you can go explore and see for yourself, Click here.
And while running the tests we've noticed two interesting reactions to the new system - people are spending more time on the site and more people that come stay around longer and look at more stuff. Both good things. Yay!
Possibly we've not slain all the dragons and there will be issues that come up during the switchover. There's a help button in the lower right hand corner of the page which you can use to send us bug reports.
Please include as much information about the hardware (PC, Mac, Tablet, Phone etc), operating system (Windows, Mac OS, Android, iOS etc) and browser (Chrome, Safari, Opera, Internet Explorer etc) that you are using as possible to help us replicate and fix the problem.
Please note that complaints about colors, fonts, icons and the like are not "bugs" - they are design choices that we've made and we expect one or two cases of world-class bitching. But they won't actually cause headaches, scurvy, heart attacks, Restless Leg Syndrome, Morgellon's Disease or the vapors (but have your smelling salts at hand just in case).
Talking to DataLounge servers. Please wait a moment...
