CNN host Chris Cuomo really got into it with Catholic League blowhard Bill Donohue today, calling Donohue out on his history of defending the Catholic Church's pedophilia scandals.
Cuomo: "The pope is giving you a different message. He's saying: 'Don't make these statements about the homosexuals. Don't make these statements about the Jews. Get back to the what your church is about. Jesus wasn't about what you are doing right now.' Are you going to hear that message or not?"
Seriously, what difference do Francis' soothing words make, when he and Donohue are likethis, policy wise? Francis isn't calling for an end to the CC's homophobia, misogyny, and guilt-mongering. He's just trying to remove them from his predecessor's spotlit display case and sweep them under the rug where they won't be so noticeable.
But Francis and Donohue both still agree that gay sex's a sin. They agree that gays can't marry in the church. They agree that a woman who will die if the fetus in her womb is not removed, must die. They agree that contraception is a sin and remarriage after divorce is a sin.
Francis is just the kinder, gentler mask over Donohue's face. WTF are so many supposedly smart people falling for Francis' PR campaign?
