I've avoided The Beatles for years - the familiarity, the elevator-music renditions, the hype, the usually awful work after the split all left me feeling like I had enough for a lifetime. But I went back lately and Good Lord they were tremendous. I just have trouble with what they used to call their "granny songs." Favorites: I'm Only Sleeping Back in the USSR I've Just Seen a Face Helter Skelter Two of Us and to answer my own question I think I can skip over Day in the Life for "I Am the Walrus" - amazing, scary, smart, artful and brilliantly inventive, while leaving one feeling eviscerated. What about you? And if you have to do the "Who is that?" or "Old Hisser Thread," could you at least be a little creative about it, please? All you need is love (one song I loathe).
