I assume this is just a Data Lounge thing, and not based in reality. But if it is, do we consider it the modern version of the Bette-Joan feud?
There is no feud. Streep recently dismissed this and said as much. I adore Glenn and her film or something generous.
Seeing as Meryl is 64, I think the baton is being passed on.
I would love to see Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullock have to be nice to each other during awards season. That is a mutual lady dislike situation.
Why would dear Glenn and I have a feud? What would be the point?
Please I love Glenn deeply and the demise of her career has saddened me more than anyone.
It's called a running gag, OP. One of those silly little jokes we beat into the ground because we are so lonely. So sad and lonely. Oh god.
What's the root of the Julia - Sandra dislike? I know Julia's a cunt, but Sandy's sweet.
For Sandra and Julia, it's alpha female hatred. Julia was number one and then Sandra eclipsed her (although la lez Sandra used Melissa McCarthy recently to keep her dominate leg up). I have never seen Sandra and Julia photographed together. Ever. I don't know how Kevin Huvane represents all these women. He must cry into his pillow every night.
I'm just surprised no one on DL ever mentions the famous (and still unresolved, BTW) feud between Mary Tyler Moore and Carol Burnett. That one was (is) very real.
At least I had children naturally like a real woman.
The Meryl/Glenn feud is occasionally funny, but the truth is it's been run to the ground by a few queens who obsess about it and cannot let it go.
If you notice, something like 95% of the posts are pretending to be Meryl being gratuitously nasty to Glenn for never coming close to her fame or her dominance of roles for women in their age group. The reasons for this are that these few queens obsess about Meryl because they see her as unassailable and so on top of her game (and has been for decades) that she can be bitchy to anyone who even tries to come near her (like Glenn Close). If you've ever heard drag queens talk about being "flawless'; well, the idea is that Meryl Streep is the closest thing there is to a flawless non-drag female performer.
Is it that Carol is nice and MTM is evil ?
I'm sorry, but who is this Meryl you talk about ?
Glenn, I think they're referring to Meryl Oberlin or something like that. Indian girl as I recall.
Now deceased. I think.
Oh! I hope they do a re-make of 'Whatever happened to Baby Jane?'!
I thought Madonna/Elton occupied that spot.
*applauds for R3*
Glenn's had a wonderful career. Believe it or not, when people treat you as Meryl has been treated, it starts to show in your performances and you become a parody of yourself. Glenn has not suffered that same fate.
Truer words were never spoken, r16. That's exactly what Streep has become, a parody. An old joke that everyone's tired of. I hope she doesn't get an Oscar nomination this year. We need a break from her, and having her there presenting this year didn't provide the necessary lack of Streep.
Somebody like Judy Davis has had the best career of the lot. She's hardly a celebrity and yet she's considered one of the acting greats.
I first heard about the so-called feud on here and I knew it was bullshit. I remember them even playing lesbian lovers (almost) together in The House of the Spirits based on the novel by Allende and there is no way that either would agree to do that if they hated each other.
I eat Oscar nominee feces.
R20 = Angelyne
God, R8, why are you such a cunt Mom?
We haven't see the Streep Troll lately. Has she gone the way of Judy Pills?
[quote](although la lez Sandra used Melissa McCarthy recently to keep her dominate leg up)
That's "dominant." It's an adjective. "Dominate" is a noun. But not to worry. They get it wrong, over and over, on collarme.com, too.
"Dominate" is a verb, not a noun.
Oh, double dear, R24. "Dominate" is a...go on...you know you know it...
I know, R25. So embarrassing. And look what I did in R26. Hanging my head in shame and not correcting anyone else for the rest of the day.
And then, after we do the tired M thing, we get into the "Meryl is past it, a parody" ball of crap. Soon the Kate Hepburn "click, click, click" will start.
ALBERT NOBBS was Oscar-worthy. I have the nomination letter to prove it. I keep it with all the others.
It's a nice inside joke.
Sometimes it's just moderately amusing, but it's written in the same sort of style and voice - amazing since it's different DL'ers - and once in a while, one is laugh out loud funny.
For fuck's sake, let's not overthink it.
There is no Meryl-Glenn feud.
Imagine if Glenn and Meryl both had twitters and acted like One Direction & The Wanted!
Blanchett has jacked Judy's persona, lock stock and barrel.
Blanchett couldn't emulate Swinton's avant garde European demeanor so she's decided to 'come home' so to speak by trying to be Davis. Unbelievable.
Several years ago there were several Meryl-Glenn posts that were mildly amusing. The rest of the posts in that thread seemed as if they were posted by some retarded person.
Since that time, Meryl-Glen posts are merely a sad reflection of the mindset of a humor challenged person who can't walk away from WHET, cak, graxy, Helen Lawson, Crystal Connors, etc. At age three, when they learned the word peepee, they said it over and over and over and over, hysterically laughing each time.
Don't you mean Judy Garland? I have never heard of a Judy Davis.
Cher vs. Madonna
Mariah vs. J-Lo
Sean Young vs. Hollywood
Judy Davis may have had great MOMENTS, but being reduced to playing second fiddle to Deb Messing is indicative of a less than great CAREER.
[quote] I have never heard of a Judy Davis.
Then you have no taste.
r48 is an ignorant, uncultured fool.
r49, never mind that Davis as well as having the most impressive filmography on IMDB has also had a hugely successful career on the Australian stage? If that's not successful. Just what the hell is? If not for Judy, there would be no Heath, Griffiths, Toni or Blanchett. There would be no such thing as an Australian film actor if NOT for Judy Davis.
[quote]There are days when I think I'm overrated. But not today. Glenn's my friend, she'll forgive me. Helen Mirren is an acting god. But NO ONE has put a performance on film better than Judy Davis in the Judy Garland story.
r7, can you give us more info on the Carol Burnett-Mary Tyler Moore feud?
Some of us enjoy playing with a DL meme. Some of us don't. Many of those who don't enjoy the meme, enjoy criticizing those who do. Others who don't enjoy it are happy to ignore them. Win. Win. Win.
R47 is cranky because her fresh meal of colostomy bag stew is late.
I like Meryl but tend to agree with r16. Her Maggie Thatcher was a performance fit for drag.
R57 wipes her ass from back to front and posts in threads as "M".
Lord, R59, why are you such a humorless fucking cunt?
You must be a joy at parties.
I think Meryl and Glenn became really close during filming of HOUSE OF THE SPIRITS (dreadful).
No, Glenn hasn't had the career M has but every once in a while something like ALBERT NOBBS comes along to remind us how wonderful she really is.
Then M went and beat her for the Oscar
r49, did it ever occur to you that Judy took that role because A) It was filmed in Australia B) It was a tv series that paid very well and C) She has RARELY played a role with a longer narrative arc?
Why does Meryl's oldest girl have Glenn's face? Somebody must have switched Mamie and Annie at the hospital?
Actors with great careers don't have do things just for the money or convenience.
I'm not questioning her talent. Simmer down.
r64 - Judy took the role so she wouldn't have to leave her teenage kids. Obviously!
[quote]I assume this is just a Data Lounge thing, and not based in reality. But if it is, do we consider it the modern version of the Bette-Joan feud?
And if your aunt had a cock, he'd be your uncle.
has Judy Davis worked in the last decade?
r67, her next film is with Kate Winslet. So suck on it Meryl.
Davis was gloriously unhinged in Deconstructing Harry.
r67? Is r20 clairvoyant?
I don't recall the word hammy being used in reviews when The Iron Lady came out. Streep is particularly effective as the elderly Thatcher, and her performance is subtle. The segments with Thatcher in power were larger than life because Thatcher was an aggressive lady boss, and I think that too was effective. But bitterness is addictive.
As for Judy Davis, she is a great actress but I honestly cannot remember the last time that I saw her in anything. Thank you all for sharing.
[quote]I have never seen Sandra and Julia photographed together. Ever.
Me either. The two women have casually talked about one another in interviews, but that's it. I once created a thread here on DL with the topic of why Sandy and Julia have never made a movie together. It'd probably slay at the box office.
