Let's brainstorm -Who should get an Honorary Oscar this year?
On Tuesday night, the Academy's 48-member Board of Governors members will officially winnow the list down to no more than four honorees, per Academy rules.
Besides an honorary Oscar, there are also two occasional awards:Irving G. Thalberg Award (given to a producer with an impressive body of work)& the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
According to the Hollywood Reporter some obvious names include:
Directors Ridley Scott,Alain Resnais, James Ivory
Actors Gene Wilder,Omar Sharif, James Garner
Actresses Gena Rowlands, Doris Day,Maureen O'Hara,Angela Lansbury, Catherine Deneuve,Cicely Tyson,Jeanne Moreau
Producers Robert Evans, Alan Ladd, Jr.
Costume designers Piero Tosi and Patricia Norris
One of these years Streisand is going to get the humanitarian award which will drive DL into fits.
Mia Farrow for the Hersholt.
Garner for the honorary Oscar. His movie career spanned at least 5 decades. And he's nice.
I think Doris Day deserves one more than anyone else, but I'm sure they've tried before and she's turned them down.
It hardly matters anymore because they don't show hardly anything of the Honorary Oscars anymore on the actual ceremony--instead that valuable time is taken up by presentations of awards like Best Sound Editing and Best Documentary Short, which no one gives a shit about anyway except the tiny number of people up for them.
Definitely Doris Day.
Maureen FitzSimons and/or Doris Day
We should start an online petiton to have the Honorary Oscars televised.
Help me Obi Wan Academy, you're Glenn's only hope.
Agree with R10, it is disgusting that we have to sit through Ben Stiller mugging or Best Live Action Short yet can't see the greats finally win an Oscar. It makes no sense and is done in the erroneous belief that the Oscars need to attract younger voters.
