Ryan Phillippe shows off his gym-honed muscles as he spends the day with mini-me children Ava and Deacon

26 August 2013 It is said that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. And that was certainly evident when 38-year-old Ryan Phillippe took his children Ava, 13, and Deacon, 9, out for lunch in Brentwood on Sunday. Ava has long been noted for her almost eery similarity to her mother Reese Witherspoon, but now it's apparent that Deacon looks just like his dad - and dresses like him too. The sandy-hairy young boy looked the spitting image of his famous father, as both wore matching white tops, baggy black shorts and flip flops. Ryan opted for the slightly more grown-up version however, flashing his tattoos and a set of muscular arms in a white tank. Onlookers no doubt did a double-take when they saw Ava. Dressed in a green, star-spangled sweater and navy skinny jeans, with her long blonde pinned at one side, anyone could have been forgiven for mistaking her for her 5ft 1 mother. Tweeting on Friday, Ryan weighed in on the debate surrounding Ben Affleck being cast as Batman in the next Superman movie. 'My thoughts prayers go out to all those affected by a new actor playing a superhero, and the rest of us who have to read the tweets about it,' he joked. Ryan and ex-wife Reese share joint custody of their two children and the Cruel Intentions actor fathered another daughter with ex-girlfriend Alexis Knapp in 2010. The actor is currently dating 22-year-old model Paulina Slagter, who is closer in age to 13-year-old Ava than to Phillippe. Reese, meanwhile, is now married to CAA agent Jim Toth and is set to appear alonside her Walk The Line co-star Joaquin Phoenix in 1970s crime flick Inherent Vice. She became a mother once more when she gave birth to baby Tennessee James Toth in September last year.
