Iran is backing Assad. Gulf states are against Assad!
Assad is against Muslim Brotherhood. Muslim Brotherhood and Obama are against General Sisi.
But Gulf states are pro Sisi! Which means they are against Muslim Brotherhood!
Iran is pro Hamas, but Hamas is backing Muslim Brotherhood! Obama is backing Muslim Brotherhood, yet Hamas is against the US!
Gulf states are pro US. But Turkey is with Gulf states against Assad; yet Turkey is pro Muslim Brotherhood against General Sisi.
And General Sisi is being backed by the Gulf states!
Russia is serious about this, as is China.
Both are tired of US intervention in their back yards, and pissed (in a somewhat ironic way) about US invasions.
The USA is supposed to be "The Beacon of Liberty on the Shining Hill of Freedom" while they are the only places the man who exposed their crimes felt safe!
Our government has more in common with Germany circa 1939 than most people will admit. Our government is evil, desperate and out of control. People that still worship at the altar of government power make me sick.
What is Russia and China going to do? Attack us?
Is General Sisi related to Drunk Sissie?
If they oppose the US Neocon socialist/fascist government then it could turn into WW3.
Is General Sisi from that Romy Schneider Austrian Sisi family?
There's some blueberries in the fridge, go play with 'em or something.
Russia is serious about this, as is China.
No, they aren't.
If they oppose the US Neocon socialist/fascist government then it could turn into WW3.
Uh-huh, and pink unicorns could also fly out of your butt. Both events are equally likely. Don't you ever get tired of being wrong?
United States needs to go into isolationism and keep their nose out of everyone else's fucking business, it's bullshit. It's not up to the United States police the rest of the world
Damn! It's beginning to look like we have to go out and demonstrate against a Syrian war. I'm glad that I was out to protest the planned invasion of Iraq. There were too many Democrats who helped enable that Bush - Cheney-Halliburton war.
If the US gov't is stupid enough to begin another war in the Middle East, this time the American public will be out in the streets. We're not going to go through this again. We've all had enough of the endless drama in that part of the world.
Sigh.... Nobody is calling for full war with Syria. At most, people are talking about no-fly zones and the same kind of intervention that took place in Libya. I'm not in favor of the intervention but can we at least keep the debate grounded in reality and stop talking about silliness like WW III?
"Our government has more in common with Germany circa 1939 than most people will admit. Our government is evil, desperate and out of control. People that still worship at the altar of government power make me sick."
I totally agree. Russia is the best!!!!!
I love you!
If the USA quit allowing the the murdering, raping and stealing around "Army Towns" this issue would stop.
Better yet--- why not bring ALL US troops back to the USA, and only use them if we get attacked.
All the defenders of the USGovernment INTERVENING... well, please justify your reasoning for rape?
I don't blame you- I'm thinking 99.999999% of the people reading this think you have never been "rap3d", but that's bullshit. Rape is rape, no matter if she was walking along in a bad part of town to that pretty girl who wants to "cuddle naked" and asks you, quietly and timidly, to "stop" while you rape her.
Rape sucks, and it will continue for longer than anyone wants.
No one is talking about a starting a war in Syria. They are just talking about bombing key targets. Someone has got to stop them from using chemical weapons.
And Yes right Russia and China want to start WWIII. Everyone loses.
Who has to stop them? We have no business as the world's thug.
If the USA quit allowing the the murdering, raping and stealing around "Army Towns" this issue would stop.
What, precisely, "issue" is that?
All the defenders of the USGovernment INTERVENING... well, please justify your reasoning for rape?
Why would we "justify" positions we do not hold? Is reading comprehension always this much trouble for you?
I'm thinking 99.999999% of the people reading this think you have never been "rap3d"...
Actually, 99.999999% of us are pretty sure you're off your meds, drunk, really stupid, or all of the above, since your post has nothing at all to do with the topic of the thread.
Joey, do you like the shapes that are not circles?
Anybody else notice the deeply rich irony of the Idiot Libertarian Troll(TM) openly supporting an authentic, honest-to-god dictatorship?
Russia has moved warships into the Persian Gulf. The foreign minister compared Obama to Bush.
Obama rolling towards war in Syria unstoppably, says Russian MP
U.S. President Barack Obama is heading into a war in Syria unstoppably, the same way that George W. Bush was rolling once in the past into a war in Iraq, believes Dr. Alexei Pushkov, the chairman of the State Duma foreign policy committee.
“In exactly the same way it was in Iraq, the war in Syria will be illegitimate and Obama will turn into a Bush clone,” Dr. Pushkov tweeted Sunday.
Russia warns West against armed action against Syria govt
Russia has expressed anxiety at declared Western preparations for armed action against the Syrian government in response to reported chemical weapon attacks.
What is Russia going to do? Ban anyone in Russia from using the word American?
Fucking John McCain - has he ever seen a war in which he hasn't wanted to partake?
Send that geezer in first!
I don't know what should be done, but I do think that Assad has the potential to become another Hilter. He is a madman who kills innocent children, women, men, and pets. They are shooting at UN members. It is a disaster, but I wouldn't want to go over there and fight, nor would I want any of my loved ones to fight.
r26 nails it
Oh, please, and the "rebels" are peaceful protesters, I suppose? They are not. They are cold-blooded murderers who would not hesitate to use chemical weapons themselves to get the NATO intervention they have been asking for for months.
It is a matter of choosing the lesser evil and that is Assad without a doubt.
A military intervention will just add to the bloodshed and solve nothing.
to 28 poster
I didn`t know you, Assad, has time to post here.
One of my friends thinks that the US is behind the chemical weapon attack on the people of Syria, and this is all orchestrated to drag us into WW3, so that the new word order can take over. I'm surprised the tin hat conspiracy theorists on DL haven't brought this up yet.
Hilarious, R29. How about you google "Syrian rebel atrocities" and see whether cannibalism, massacres and cold-blooded executions change your mind.
So you think you can bomb people to peace?
To coin a phrase that we use in the UK rather a lot, when it all goes tits up, and it will do (because it always does), Britain and the USA will inevitably be the ones -yet again- who have lead the whole thing and who get the entire blame for whatever happens.
You can smell compensation packages a mile off already, for all the innocent families we mistakenly bomb trying to target Assad's forces and the inevitable unruly swathe of militant factional, warring Al Quedas that erupt out of nowhere once the regime is obliterated.
'Satanic USA and UK' be seen as interfering busybodies and 'infidels' for trying to sort yet another middle eastern mess out.
Yes I feel desperately sorry for little children, but there are children in our own countries living and dying in neglect and poverty and it's about time the west focused on its own house, rather than trying to mind the business of others. Make it safe for refugees to leave and provide safehouses and aid, but bombing the country and sending troops in to 'reclaim' it (for what...whom?), no.
All the Republicans are calling for Obama to bomb Syria. As soon as he bombs them, they will be calling for his impeachment.
If Russia starts WW3 over this, I will also not boycott the olympics.
So you think you can bomb people to peace?
Do you think the mess is going to resolve itself if we continue to do nothing? As long as we're asking idiotic leading questions.
No, they probably won't resolve themselves if nothing is done. Stopping all weapons support for both the regime and the "rebels" and then forcing them to talk, if necessary even dividing up the country along sectarian lines, is better than bombing and hoping it doesn't become another Iraq or Afghanistan.
Do you think the mess is going to resolve itself if we continue to do nothing?
Eventually, yes. There is absolutely nothing we can do of use in any of these countries, except provide aid and shelter for the displaced, if we feel inclined to do so. Although, as R32 pointed out in his excellent post, we have plenty of problems of our own to sort out first, IMO. That said, I understand governments sending aid, but any kind of military intervention is nothing but harmful. These societies need to sort themselves the hell out.
With regard to Syria, anyone who is properly informed about the history of this conflict (which goes back decades and further, as does everything in the Middle East) knows that both sides have a point - there is no 'right' or 'wrong' side to be on. The only way this country, as with so many others, is going to have lasting peace is to become more secular and stop getting wound up about ancient religious and tribal feuds. No one can help them until that happens; they'll just carry on killing one another the first chance they get.
Yes, the US should probably stay out of it. Not because one faction or another is in the right or wrong. It's just a no-win situation. We really need to stop trying to rescue these shithole countries.
What should be done, however, is intensive, micro-detailed intelligence gathering with the goal of bringing the bastards to justice in The Hague. And make it clear to those bastards that it's being done.
Having said that, I wouldn't shed any tears if Assad was taken out in a surgical, laser or drone strike. But be's probably living in a bunker 24/7 these days.
A country doesn’t become a super power by doing nothing. If the US lets Assad use chemical weapons freely, those chemicals will find their way into dirty bombs in NY. If the fear of the US military is not there anymore, it will happen. If Russia smells a sign of weakness in the US, it will move ahead and take over.
Obama has made a few mistakes in his career. Letting Iran get nuclear weapons and supporting the Muslim Brotherhood – one of the vilest political parties on earth. Those are signs of weakness. He can’t afford to ignore Assad-Russia-China-Iran getting stronger while the US influence is getting weaker.
Nothing comes for free in this world. If a country wants to leads, it needs to step up and lead. Can you imagine a world where Russia and it’s gay bashing ideology is the strongest country in the world?
This isn't about Syria.
Obama's not backing the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, OP.
The MB were elected democratically by thr people but then overthrown by the Egyptian military, who are BO's friends.
It's the MB supporters who rioted in Cairo.
Millions and millions of people protested against the MB in Egypt and the military interfered on their behalf.
Obama was most certainly supporting the MB and I agree with R40 that they are "one of the vilest political parties on earth." They have had 80 years of violent history.
If this isn't about Syria though, I wish the US would just say that and stop the pretense. That, more than anything, is what makes many angry. If they don't actually care about the people dying they need to stop moralizing.
Obama does not support the Muslim Brotherhood. They were democratically elected by the people of Egypt, but only just barely. Yet they ruled like they had a mandate, and the military overthrew them.
The Egyptian military is NOT the Muslim Brotherhood. But THEY are Obama's allies.
If the US lets Assad use chemical weapons freely, those chemicals will find their way into dirty bombs in NY.
That's a bit of a logic leap.
This isn't about Syria.
Let me guess. It's about Israel, right?
It's about human rights, 44.
I don't want to live in a world where children are poisoned to death by their own government.
If I must put up with Justin beiber and Donald trump, fine.
But I can only put up with so much.
Egyptians are convinced America and especially Obama are behind everything. They hate us with a passion. That's why Hillary's car was pelted. Guess where they get their news from -- Alex Jones and Pamela Geller. They actually quote them. Geller was even cited by the guy who shot everyone in Norway. America is its own worst enemy. It needs to stay the fuck out of it. You can thank 9/11 for its meddling as well. It's made itself a target.
Easy, queers- everything is going according to plan.
President DIck Cheney
United States needs to go into isolationism and keep their nose out of everyone else's fucking business, it's bullshit. It's not up to the United States police the rest of the world
I agree. Isolationism doesn't mean no free trade or freedom to visit other countries or destruction of the military. It just means MINDING OUR OWN FUCKING BUSINESS AND CEASING THE INVASIONS, BRIBES AND COVERT OPS in every country on the planet.
No one is talking about a starting a war in Syria. They are just talking about bombing key targets. Someone has got to stop them from using chemical weapons.
If Syria "bombed a few key targets" in the USA then it would cause for war.
The chemical weapons are being used by the Syrian government, not the rebels.
Kerry and Obama are lying shitsacks.
You are tiresome and evil.
We go to war with them, the Islam fundamentalists will go cray-cray on us!
I don't know what should be done, but I do think that Assad has the potential to become another Hilter.
Since Syria is a third world country, with virtually zero "long range" weapons, no Air Force, or naval power, your comparison shows how the MSM has warped your mind.
He is a madman who kills innocent children, women, men, and pets.
Not unlike the US military drones in Afghanistan.
They are shooting at UN members.
Everyone is being shot at, and since the UN is a lapdog for Bush...I mean Obama, they should be shot.
It is a disaster, but I wouldn't want to go over there and fight, nor would I want any of my loved ones to fight.
So what is your point?
Why not call Obama a warmonger, insist the US Government quit starting/fomenting wars, end the clandestine actions of the NSA & CIA in foreign countries, force him to withdraw troops from the 100+ countries worldwide, end the domestic spying on every email and phone call and web search/visit?
Do you think the mess is going to resolve itself if we continue to do nothing? As long as we're asking idiotic leading questions
R35, please explain how it is any of mine, or yours, business.
Even better, explain how you can ignore 100+ years of intervention, shady assassinations, trillions of "foreign aid" to US allies, covert military and weapons support and then say something as stupid as "Do you think the mess is going to resolve itself if we continue to do nothing?"
The chemical weapons are being used by the Syrian government, not the rebels.
No shit, Sherlock.
Kerry and Obama are lying shitsacks.
For pointing out that the chemical weapons are being used by the Syrian government. Okay, then....
R19, You are tiresome and evil.
Thank you for conceding that you cannot answer my post or defend your own.
Aside from your other misstatements, Iran does not have a nuclear weapon. They have been six months away from having nukes for 15 years now.
R55----Then why are you supporting an invasion of Syria?
Why did you support the invasion of Iraq?
Why don't you call for Obama to withdraw ALL US TROOPS from the world and focus on the "Vaterland"?
Do you think the mess is going to resolve itself if we continue to do nothing?
Nothing? We've been fucking with the Middle East for nearly a century and it's worked out SO well for us, hasn't it? Perhaps we really should do nothing and let them sort it out themselves. Those shithole, back-asswards countries are not worth one American life.
I do not support the invasion of Syria and I never supported the invasion of Iraq. Why would you make that assumption?
So let's save children by bombing them into oblivion. Neocon or neoliberal, which are you?
Y'all are aware that this shrill anti-Obama troll is none other than our resident Idiot Libertarian Troll?
I'd take his opinions on global politics about as seriously as I would, well, anything else in the world. Gold, hyperinflation, fascism, history, politics, you name it.
Which leads me to wonder...just why is the Libertarian Idiot so vehemently defensive of Syria and Russia, two of the most authoritarian governments in the world today?
r59, we're not talking carpet bombing here.
Unfortunately, the key will be the quality of intelligence America and its allies have on strategic targets. That will determine the response.
We will be forced to rely on political leadership, since the info is (and should be) classified.
Since that worked out so well with Iraq, I don't have my hopes up.
I dated someone from Syria years ago (in college). He was very proud of his country, and said that (at the time) they were modern and gays were accepted more than other countries in the region (this was in the mid 90s). He was really hot, and incredibly intelligent. I checked his Facebook page, and some his friends from Aleppo are posting weird stuff, like 'Sophia, I hope you are OK' on his page. Does this mean that Sophia is dead? I have sent him a couple of private messages, but he has not responded. I cannot even imagine what he is going through. His whole family is there.
Paula Abdul is Syrian. Are we allowed to carpet-bomb her?
30 not the usa but i would bet money that a rebel group in involved in this somehow. syria is winning against the rebels they had no reason to use chem weps. the rebels however have been trying to drag the us in since the start.
R19, R50 is right, you need to go the fuck away. You're a fucking TROLL, plain and simple.
[R19], [R50] is right, you need to go the fuck away. You're a fucking TROLL, plain and simple.
And R1/R2/R4/R7/R22/R23/R48/R49/R50/R52/R53/R56 is [bold]NOT[/bold]? Bitch, please.
Assad is a cruel dictator but there are lots of cruel dictators around the world. The US only cares about the Middle East because of the oil. That and a defense industry that expects to make a lot of money during a war.
Can we revoke Obama's Nobel Peace Prize? He is the most unqualified winner since Henry Kissinger.
Which leads me to wonder...just why is the Libertarian Idiot so vehemently defensive of Syria and Russia, two of the most authoritarian governments in the world today?
Anyone so stupid to ask a question like that couldn't possible have the mental capacity to understand the answer.
The troops live under
The cannon's thunder
From Sind to Cooch Behar
Moving from place to place
When they come face to face
With a different breed of fellow
Whose skins are black or yellow
They quick as winking chop him into
The the MOST IMPORTANT premise of this administration was that this NOT going to happen!
Anyone so stupid to ask a question like that couldn't possible have the mental capacity to understand the answer.
Hi, Libertarian Idiot Troll!
You're right, I don't have the mental capacity to understand why Libertarians vehemently oppose all evil government control, unless it's coming from an authoritarian dictatorship like Assad, in which case it's totally cool. I don't understand how Libertarian philosophy leads to the belief that Assad should be free to gas his own citizens, because liberty and freedom and stuff.
I don't understand how past outside interference in Syria makes it okay for Assad to gas citizens. I'm just too simple to understand the true nine-dimensional genius of the Libertarian brain.
I know everybody hates Nixon, but Eisenhower's last advice to Nixon before Ike died was "Stay out of the Middle East." Would that Nixon and his successors had heeded him. All this about Obama's approach to the Arab Spring is bullshit!!!!
Sorry, one more thought. Clearly I'm in the throes of evil gummint propaganda about Assad generated by noted fascists in the UN and Arab League. I'm totally blind to the assertion that rebels gassed citizens as a false flag attack, put forth by that noted standard-bearer of truth and justice Vladimar Putin.
If the Syrians can't care enough to stop infighting and civil war, why should we?
Aww, R72, you're so sweet to try to work with that mentally retarded boy.
I just want to run him over with my car.
Paula Abdul is Syrian. Are we allowed to carpet-bomb her?
Yes, but let's not and say we did. It will save time, money and she'll collapse in a heap on the ground anyway, R64.\t
50 years after the March on Washington and we can still find billions on billions of dollars to drop bombs on faraway countries, but we can't get 1/3 of our own country out of poverty.
What the fucking fuck?
It always turns out badly when we enter a conflict (i.e., war) that "everyone" is for, but once we try to blow the bad guys to kingdom Come (do the Arabs have a Kingdom Come? Honest question) "everyone" gets pissy and align with their Arab brothers.
The day we all agree on something would be Kingdom Come
Ann Curry is in Syria, covering the fighting over there. NBC keeps sending her to all of the world's trouble spots.
I support Obama on this!
Paula Abdul is Syrian. Are we allowed to carpet-bomb her?
Maybe we could just trim that carpet a bit.
How will Obama's built -in constituencies take this war? Is it OK just because he does it?
Howzabout IT'S NONE OF OUR DAMNED BUSINESS!!!
Oh, wait- that would mean recognizing that our media MSNBCNNABCFoxNEWS is just a propaganda arm for the DemoPublican Uni-Party that kneels down to their corporate masters.
British MP George Galloway tells it like it is yesterday in the special session in the British Parliament.
If nothing else it makes me wish we had a parliamentary system that makes the ruling party face the opposition and answer in real time unlike our dimbulbs in Congress and their meaningless prepared statements.
Great speech, R85-
The people here that still defend the government, despite the evidence that it is corrupt, evil and dangerous no matter if it is headed by a (D) or an (R) and the fact that both parties are kneeling at the feet of the top 0.01%
Well, they just make me sick.
R84: How about translating your jargon-infested gibberish into English?
Isn't it treason for Obama to start a war with Syria without Congressional approval? Wouldn't that open the door to possible impeachment?
What happens in Syria is none of our business. It won't hurt any US citizen.
The media is controlled by the elite, and pushes elite ideas. If the reason for invasion is abuse of Syrian citizens, then there are dozens of countries in the world that need intervention.
Why pick Syria, unless it is for ulterior and hidden motives?
The Ds and Rs are the same party, serving the elite.
Is that dumbed down enough for your pathetically miseducated brain?
Treason being he would be backing the Al Queda rebels, our enemy.
Got it. As usual you have no fucking clue whatsoever how the world works. Now tell us again how Obama is a fascist, and Assad isn't.
OH really 89? You sound like another Tin Hat retard If Chemical weapons are used and nothing is done, they will be used again. It's international law (Geneva Protocol 1929)...Unfortunately for the US we always have to be the ones to do it.
"I don't want to live in a world where children are poisoned to death by their own government."
Are you protesting the US Food and Drug Administration as well?
Isn't it treason for Obama to start a war with Syria without Congressional approval?
Did you graduate high school, honey?
Yes, it is treason, and the reason Clinton, Bush and Obama (along with their senior staff) should be tried for war crimes and executed if found guilty.
We explained this before. The sequester caught the military by surprise and made them mad. They tried to get your attention by canceling the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels but it didn't work. There was nothing for it but to start a war.
The fact was NOBODY CARED that the military had their budget slashed, so they have to MAKE US care by any possible means. We didn't put John Kerry, George W. Bush's favorite Democrat at Secretary of State; and Chuck Hagel, the master fixer of elections, in power in the cabinet for nothing. Of course they were going to make sure we had wars.
Aaaaaaaaand Obama asks for Congressional approval.
Whether it's history, economics, global politics or monetary policy, the Libertarian Idiot Troll is, as always, wrong.
Treason being he would be backing the Al Queda rebels, our enemy.
Uhhhh, the USGOV is supporting Al Qaeda. They have been shipping guns, missiles and money for AT LEAST 3 years to the Al Qaeda rebels in Syria, and Benghazi was one of the major pipelines. That is why both parties are loathe to open hearings on what happened last year- it would expose BOTH parties as corrupt.
How do you people function? Do you just watch MSNBCNNABCFOXNews and take it as gospel?
